that_o give_v good_a word_n and_o make_v fair_a promise_n of_o amendment_n of_o life_n upon_o the_o bed_n of_o sickness_n or_o at_o the_o approach_n of_o this_o sacrament_n who_o yet_o be_v so_o far_o from_o make_v their_o word_n good_a that_o they_o do_v sometime_o run_v into_o a_o great_a excess_n of_o folly_n and_o wickedness_n than_o they_o be_v guilty_a of_o before_o we_o shall_v therefore_o do_v well_o to_o try_v our_o purpose_n and_o resolution_n and_o narrow_o to_o examine_v they_o whether_o they_o be_v such_o as_o be_v like_a to_o hold_v or_o not_o and_o to_o that_o purpose_n we_o may_v consider_v the_o follow_a several_n 1._o we_o have_v little_a reason_n to_o give_v credit_n to_o rash_a and_o sudden_a purpose_n of_o amendment_n of_o life_n the_o sinner_n do_v now_o and_o then_o resolve_v vehement_o against_o his_o sin_n but_o it_o be_v when_o he_o have_v new_o surfeit_v upon_o his_o folly_n and_o defile_v himself_o with_o his_o sin_n then_o indeed_o he_o be_v sick_a of_o it_o for_o a_o while_n and_o resolve_v to_o lay_v it_o aside_o or_o perhaps_o some_o great_a and_o amaze_a affliction_n fall_v upon_o he_o and_o this_o bring_v his_o sin_n to_o remembrance_n and_o he_o sudden_o resolve_v he_o will_v put_v away_o his_o sin_n and_o lead_v a_o new_a life_n but_o when_o this_o tempest_n of_o sorrow_n be_v over_o and_o his_o appetite_n return_v anew_o upon_o he_o he_o do_v easy_o embrace_v his_o folly_n again_o and_o be_v as_o much_o the_o child_n of_o satan_n as_o he_o be_v before_o such_o a_o man_n be_v trouble_v at_o the_o mischief_n which_o his_o folly_n have_v betray_v he_o to_o and_o be_v sick_a of_o his_o sin_n for_o a_o while_n because_o he_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o bitterness_n which_o do_v attend_v it_o but_o when_o he_o have_v forget_v the_o trouble_n and_o the_o pain_n his_o sin_n have_v put_v he_o to_o than_o he_o return_v to_o it_o again_o there_o be_v those_o in_o the_o world_n that_o do_v frequent_o resolve_v against_o their_o sin_n and_o yet_o do_v as_o constant_o commit_v those_o very_a sin_n which_o they_o so_o passionate_o resolve_v against_o and_o that_o because_o it_o be_v not_o their_o sin_n which_o give_v they_o so_o much_o trouble_v but_o the_o evil_a effect_n and_o consequent_n which_o do_v follow_v upon_o they_o for_o when_o their_o sin_n court_v they_o and_o smile_n upon_o they_o when_o it_o follow_v they_o officious_o and_o plead_v for_o a_o reconcilement_n they_o ready_o yield_v themselves_o up_o to_o their_o slavery_n again_o 2._o we_o have_v little_a reason_n to_o trust_v to_o that_o resolution_n which_o we_o have_v former_o find_v so_o very_o ineffectual_a if_o we_o find_v that_o we_o have_v often_o resolve_v as_o much_o as_o now_o we_o do_v against_o our_o sin_n and_o yet_o that_o for_o all_o that_o when_o the_o solemnity_n have_v be_v over_o we_o have_v forfeit_v our_o good_a promise_n we_o have_v very_o little_a reason_n to_o trust_v ourselves_o that_o man_n who_o have_v be_v often_o a_o partaker_n of_o this_o sacrament_n and_o have_v as_o often_o make_v his_o resolve_n to_o become_v better_a and_o as_o often_o break_v they_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o believe_v himself_o nor_o to_o communicate_v again_o till_o he_o find_v a_o change_n in_o himself_o for_o it_o be_v to_o be_v suspect_v that_o such_o a_o man_n resolution_n of_o amendment_n be_v but_o formal_a and_o of_o course_n and_o that_o he_o be_v only_a overawe_v with_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o approach_a solemnity_n and_o not_o true_o out_o of_o love_n with_o his_o sin_n which_o he_o pretend_v at_o this_o time_n a_o defiance_n to_o the_o best_a evidence_n of_o the_o sincerity_n of_o our_o resolution_n be_v this_o that_o we_o do_v as_o we_o have_v resolve_v unless_o we_o do_v this_o there_o can_v be_v nothing_o more_o insignificant_a than_o our_o resolution_n be_v and_o sure_o it_o be_v in_o every_o thing_n else_o we_o judge_v thus_o not_o he_o that_o resolve_v but_o he_o that_o fight_v courageous_o get_v the_o victory_n our_o resolve_v do_v not_o alone_o set_v forward_o any_o work_n it_o be_v the_o put_n our_o resolution_n into_o practice_n which_o do_v avail_v we_o 3._o he_o that_o from_o the_o difficulty_n and_o severity_n of_o a_o holy_a life_n he_o that_o resolve_v to_o be_v temperate_a must_v also_o resolve_v to_o avoid_v his_o evil_a company_n that_o draw_v he_o to_o that_o excess_n to_o pass_v by_o the_o door_n where_o he_o be_v wont_a to_o be_v draw_v in_o he_o that_o resolve_v to_o be_v chaste_a must_v also_o resolve_v to_o decline_v the_o house_n of_o a_o whorish_a woman_n and_o to_o set_v a_o watch_n upon_o himself_o that_o he_o be_v not_o ensnare_v with_o her_o enticement_n he_o that_o resolve_v against_o his_o sin_n must_v resolve_v also_o against_o every_o
