A45694 Political aphorisms: or, The true maxims of government displayed Wherein is likewise proved, that paternal authority is no absolute authority, and that Adam had no such authority. That there neither is or can be any absolute government de jure, and that all such pretended government is void. That the children of Israel did often resist their evil princes without any appointment or foretelling thereof by God in scripture. That the primitive Christians did often resist their tyrannical emperors, and that Bishop Athanasius did approve of resistance. That the Protestants in all ages did resist their evil and destructive princes. rather_o than_o the_o king_n who_o can_v obey_v the_o king_n violate_v the_o law_n who_o will_n or_o can_v refuse_v to_o give_v aid_n to_o the_o law_n when_o infringe_v it_o be_v impossible_a any_o from_o they_o and_o this_o doctrine_n ought_v to_o be_v inculcate_v into_o the_o mind_n of_o prince_n from_o their_o infancy_n let_v the_o prince_n be_v either_o from_o god_n or_o from_o man_n yet_o to_o think_v that_o the_o world_n be_v create_v by_o god_n and_o in_o it_o man_n that_o they_o shall_v serve_v only_o for_o the_o benefit_n and_o use_v of_o prince_n be_v a_o absurdity_n as_o gross_a as_o can_v be_v speak_v since_o god_n have_v make_v we_o free_a and_o equal_a but_o prince_n be_v ordain_v only_o for_o the_o people_n benefit_n that_o so_o they_o may_v innocent_o preserve_v human_a liberty_n prove_v itself_o the_o one_o be_v found_v upon_o positive_a law_n the_o other_o upon_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n with_o what_o ignorance_n do_v some_o assert_v that_o adam_n be_v a_o absolute_a monarch_n and_o that_o paternal_a authority_n be_v a_o absolute_a authority_n for_o that_o the_o father_n of_o a_o family_n govern_v by_o no_o other_o law_n than_o by_o his_o own_o will_n a_o fatherly_a authority_n and_o therefore_o irresistible_a and_o that_o no_o law_n can_v bind_v the_o king_n or_o annul_v this_o authority_n how_o can_v adam_n be_v a_o absolute_a monarch_n when_o god_n give_v he_o the_o herb_n but_o in_o common_a with_o the_o beast_n gen._n 1.29_o 30._o can_v it_o be_v think_v that_o god_n give_v he_o a_o absolute_a authority_n of_o life_n and_o death_n over_o noah_n be_v heir_n to_o adam_n i_o ask_v which_o of_o noah_n son_n be_v heir_n to_o he_o for_o if_o by_o right_o it_o descend_v to_o all_o his_o son_n than_o it_o must_v have_v descend_v to_o all_o authority_n take_v it_o which_o way_n you_o will_v it_o come_v to_o just_a nothing_o at_o all_o where_o human_a institution_n give_v it_o not_o the_o first-born_a have_v no_o right_a at_o all_o above_o his_o brethren_n no_o man_n have_v a_o absolute_a authority_n over_o the_o creature_n much_o less_o over_o mankind_n because_o they_o be_v give_v for_o the_o use_n of_o all_o man_n as_o and_o where_o there_o be_v no_o absolute_a authority_n there_o can_v be_v no_o absolute_a subjection_n due_a there_o be_v a_o eternal_a obligation_n on_o parent_n to_o nourish_v preserve_v and_o with_o his_o grandchild_n pay_v the_o honour_n due_a to_o his_o parent_n by_o the_o five_o commandment_n it_o be_v evident_a in_o common_a sense_n the_o grandfather_n can_v discharge_v the_o
