man_n do_v believe_v in_o god_n and_o love_v he_o which_o beget_v they_o will_v love_v such_o as_o be_v beget_v of_o he_o 1_o john_n 5_o 1._o if_o this_o be_v the_o mark_n of_o a_o man_n translate_v from_o death_n of_o unbelief_n and_o sin_n to_o the_o life_n of_o grace_n and_o faith_n that_o they_o love_v the_o brethren_n 1_o john_n 3_o 14._o as_o it_o be_v there_o write_v hereby_o we_o know_v this_o consideration_n it_o be_v this_o so_o much_o the_o more_o to_o increase_v a_o care_n in_o man_n to_o labour_n for_o the_o gift_n of_o faith_n by_o how_o much_o it_o be_v more_o rare_a be_v it_o so_o common_a as_o nature_n be_v or_o as_o the_o word_n and_o knowledge_n be_v there_o be_v the_o less_o need_n of_o any_o thought_n or_o travane_a this_o way_n but_o be_v a_o thing_n so_o precious_a &_o renown_a much_o talk_v of_o in_o the_o world_n and_o little_o feel_v and_o enjoy_v and_o there_o be_v no_o christ_n nor_o happiness_n without_o it_o it_o stand_v upon_o so_o much_o the_o more_o to_o give_v all_o diligence_n that_o they_o may_v be_v find_v rather_o among_o the_o little_a handful_n of_o believer_n then_o in_o the_o multitude_n of_o infidel_n which_o walk_v the_o broad_a way_n be_v consider_v that_o you_o keep_v so_o many_o thing_n therefore_o unto_o all_o that_o which_o have_v be_v record_v by_o you_o there_o be_v other_o four_o point_n which_o i_o will_v brief_o add_v disobedience_n therefore_o god_n their_o lord_n and_o father_n can_v be_v without_o rod_n for_o chastisement_n this_o the_o scripture_n abundant_o witness_v that_o as_o the_o godly_a on_o the_o one_o side_n give_v plentiful_a matter_n by_o their_o often_o and_o plentiful_a sin_v yea_o sometime_o by_o grievous_a sin_v against_o god_n why_o they_o shall_v be_v beat_v even_o with_o scourge_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n many_o and_o manifold_a be_v the_o correction_n of_o god_n he_o have_v rod_n and_o scourge_n of_o all_o kind_n gentle_a and_o sharp_a inward_a and_o soul_n chastisement_n outward_a and_o bodily_a correction_n god_n can_v smite_v in_o good_n name_n estate_n credit_n wife_n child_n friend_n liberty_n in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v with_o they_o or_o near_o they_o or_o dear_a to_o they_o god_n know_v how_o to_o chasten_v they_o by_o take_v away_o or_o lessen_v their_o comfort_n also_o by_o put_v upon_o they_o thing_n grievous_a to_o their_o nature_n wherein_o god_n child_n through_o patience_n do_v show_v all_o good_a contentment_n at_o the_o lord_n deal_v with_o they_o though_o it_o be_v sometime_o very_o rough_a and_o severe_a yet_o they_o know_v and_o consider_v that_o it_o be_v well_o deserve_v patience_n they_o have_v make_v themselves_o very_o worthy_a to_o be_v well_o beat_v by_o their_o breach_n of_o god_n law_n and_o it_o be_v but_o good_a reason_n if_o they_o be_v so_o bold_a as_o to_o transgress_v and_o deserve_v chastisement_n that_o god_n shall_v take_v leave_n to_o use_v his_o authority_n therefore_o as_o they_o suffer_v with_o patience_n the_o father_n of_o their_o body_n when_o they_o correct_v they_o now_o much_o more_o they_o do_v submit_v themselves_o to_o he_o that_o be_v the_o father_n of_o spirit_n especial_o when_o they_o mark_v his_o manner_n of_o proceed_v in_o his_o chastisement_n and_o the_o chief_a end_n that_o he_o aim_v at_o in_o they_o seek_v therein_o their_o profit_n not_o his_o own_o praise_n or_o pleasure_n as_o bodily_a parent_n often_o do_v for_o touch_v his_o proceed_n albeit_o man_n suffer_v eth_z not_o but_o for_o his_o own_o sin_n lament_v 3._o 〈◊〉_d be_v correct_v but_o for_o his_o say_v of_o he_o that_o he_o be_v slow_a to_o anger_n patient_a and_o full_a of_o compassion_n and_o goodness_n psal._n 103._o indeed_o when_o the_o godly_a do_v forget_v themselves_o and_o fall_v when_o god_n have_v suffer_v his_o child_n long_o for_o he_o have_v rather_o they_o shall_v judge_v themselves_o than_o he_o shall_v judge_v they_o desire_v their_o conversion_n by_o his_o bounty_n sex_n so_o far_o as_o the_o measure_n of_o their_o grace_n will_v enable_v they_o they_o careful_o shun_v after_o the_o example_n of_o continent_n joseph_n all_o temptation_n and_o occasion_n of_o uncleanness_n in_o this_o respect_n that_o they_o will_v not_o do_v wickedness_n against_o god_n but_o if_o at_o any_o time_n any_o of_o they_o do_v fall_v with_o david_n break_v the_o law_n of_o chastity_n they_o do_v earnest_o and_o unfeigned_o repent_v with_o david_n be_v ready_a to_o make_v their_o sin_n know_v public_o if_o need_v require_v ever_o after_o more_o heedful_o look_v to_o their_o way_n unto_o their_o chastity_n they_o do_v join_v temperance_n which_o be_v a_o virtue_n moderate_v their_o desire_n about_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n even_o as_o chastity_n rule_v the_o heart_n about_o the_o desire_n of_o sex_n so_o sobriety_n and_o temperance_n govern_v their_o affection_n about_o other_o pleasure_n of_o this_o life_n give_v they_o power_n not_o only_o to_o abstain_v from_o follow_v and_o 〈◊〉_d filthy_a and_o unlawful_a pleasure_n such_o as_o be_v forbid_v as_o whoredom_n drunkenness_n gluttony_n etc._n etc._n but_o to_o withstand_v all_o enticement_n and_o provocation_n thereunto_o and_o that_o not_o for_o fear_v of_o shame_n or_o punishment_n only_o from_o god_n or_o man_n but_o of_o conscience_n towards_o god_n moreover_o in_o such_o pleasure_n as_o be_v lawful_a and_o allow_v as_o in_o the_o pleasure_n of_o eat_v drink_v apparel_n recreation_n sleep_n marriage_n building_n and_o other_o such_o honest_a pleasure_n by_o the_o use_n whereof_o our_o life_n and_o kind_n be_v not_o only_o maintain_v but_o preserve_v in_o a_o comfortable_a estate_n the_o gift_n of_o temperance_n be_v bestow_v upon_o the_o child_n of_o god_n in_o all_o age_n degree_n and_o sex_n as_o a_o metyard_n to_o measure_n and_o as_o a_o bridle_n to_o hold_v back_o their_o affection_n in_o use_v these_o warrantable_a delight_n that_o they_o do_v not_o only_o not_o exceed_v their_o bound_n but_o be_v hold_v in_o and_o restrain_v from_o go_v so_o far_o in_o the_o use_n of_o they_o as_o otherwise_o their_o estate_n and_o ability_n and_o the_o custom_n of_o the_o time_n and_o place_n where_o they_o live_v will_v suffer_v and_o give_v they_o leave_v for_o this_o be_v certain_a that_o our_o desire_n after_o these_o pleasure_n be_v unsatiable_a as_o a_o bottomless_a 〈◊〉_d and_o withal_o satan_n lay_v bait_n and_o snare_n to_o catch_v all_o the_o child_n of_o adam_n in_o their_o pleasure_n even_o as_o he_o catch_v their_o first_o parent_n and_o experience_n tell_v we_o that_o some_o very_a godly_a person_n have_v be_v surprise_v and_o be_v take_v in_o his_o snare_n to_o the_o wound_n of_o their_o own_o conscience_n and_o to_o the_o offence_n and_o dishonour_n of_o god_n therefore_o as_o temperance_n be_v very_o needful_a to_o preserve_v we_o from_o run_v into_o excess_n and_o to_o cause_v we_o to_o live_v sober_o and_o stayed_o so_o the_o child_n of_o god_n have_v a_o marvelous_a great_a care_n to_o cherish_v and_o practice_v this_o grace_n endeavour_v thereby_o to_o curb_v and_o hold_v in_o their_o sensual_a desire_n and_o in_o abundance_n of_o their_o blessing_n to_o keep_v a_o mediocrity_n in_o such_o sort_n use_v their_o liberty_n in_o outward_a blessing_n of_o this_o life_n as_o it_o may_v be_v a_o help_n and_o furtherance_n and_o not_o a_o hindrance_n to_o godliness_n and_o eternal_a life_n and_o this_o they_o enforce_v themselves_o to_o do_v the_o rather_o because_o they_o know_v it_o be_v the_o will_n stand_v affect_v towards_o the_o substance_n and_o name_n of_o their_o neighbour_n otherwise_o then_o all_o other_o man_n do_v aquila_n right_o so_o thus_o therefore_o it_o be_v all_o godly_a person_n make_v conscience_n of_o do_v the_o least_o injury_n to_o other_o good_n man_n in_o their_o good_n and_o wealth_n either_o by_o fraud_n or_o violence_n either_o direct_o or_o indirect_o
