when_o we_o consider_v the_o innocence_n and_o holiness_n of_o his_o life_n that_o he_o be_v a_o great_a example_n of_o a_o unaffected_a piety_n towards_o god_n and_o all_o the_o virtue_n of_o a_o innocent_a and_o useful_a conversation_n with_o man_n we_o may_v reasonable_o conclude_v that_o his_o great_a design_n be_v to_o reform_v the_o debauch_a manner_n of_o the_o world_n to_o reduce_v mankind_n to_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n to_o teach_v man_n how_o to_o live_v as_o well_o as_o talk_v and_o to_o restore_v the_o practice_n of_o piety_n and_o justice_n of_o meekness_n and_o humility_n and_o a_o universal_a good_a will_n which_o have_v be_v banish_v out_o of_o the_o world_n by_o the_o hypocritical_a pretence_n of_o a_o more_o refine_a sanctity_n in_o wash_a hand_n and_o dish_n in_o tithing_n mint_n and_o cumming_n and_o such_o like_a piece_n of_o legal_a and_o ceremonial_a righteousness_n but_o now_o our_o saviour_n by_o his_o example_n as_o well_o as_o law_n teach_v we_o another_o lesson_n that_o as_o we_o lose_v our_o happiness_n at_o first_o by_o sin_n so_o the_o way_n to_o regain_v the_o favour_n of_o god_n and_o a_o immortal_a life_n be_v by_o the_o practice_n of_o a_o sincere_a and_o universal_a righteousness_n he_o come_v to_o be_v our_o example_n and_o guide_n to_o heaven_n as_o well_o as_o our_o mediator_n and_o advocate_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v imitate_v his_o life_n if_o we_o will_v enjoy_v the_o benefit_n of_o his_o death_n and_o intercession_n for_o so_o holy_a a_o person_n can_v never_o be_v the_o patron_n of_o vice_n nor_o a_o advocate_n for_o impenitent_a and_o incorrigible_a sinner_n when_o we_o remember_v that_o christ_n die_v as_o a_o sacrifice_n and_o propitiation_n for_o sin_n this_o give_v we_o a_o great_a demonstration_n of_o god_n good_a will_n to_o we_o how_o ready_a he_o be_v to_o pass_v by_o all_o our_o former_a sin_n in_o that_o he_o have_v appoint_v a_o atonement_n for_o we_o and_o give_v no_o less_o person_n than_o his_o own_o son_n for_o our_o ransom_n which_o be_v the_o great_a assurance_n god_n can_v give_v we_o of_o his_o readiness_n to_o accept_v of_o true_a penitent_n and_o therefore_o the_o most_o powerful_a motive_n and_o encouragement_n to_o return_v to_o our_o duty_n and_o beside_o this_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n assure_v we_o what_o the_o desert_n of_o sin_n be_v and_o what_o will_v be_v the_o portion_n of_o all_o impenitent_a sinner_n for_o in_o that_o he_o require_v the_o death_n of_o his_o own_o son_n to_o be_v a_o atonement_n for_o sin_n he_o have_v plain_o declare_v that_o all_o sinner_n deserve_v to_o die_v and_o that_o none_o shall_v escape_v this_o just_a condemnation_n but_o those_o who_o be_v wash_v and_o purify_v in_o the_o blood_n of_o but_o exact_v from_o they_o a_o righteousness_n of_o their_o own_o if_o they_o will_v find_v mercy_n with_o god_n now_o it_o be_v very_o strange_a if_o the_o imputation_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n for_o our_o justification_n be_v the_o great_a gospel_n mystery_n and_o the_o only_a way_n to_o find_v favour_n with_o god_n that_o our_o saviour_n in_o all_o his_o sermon_n shall_v not_o once_o mention_v this_o that_o he_o shall_v not_o once_o warn_v his_o hearer_n as_o the_o gospel_n preacher_n of_o our_o day_n do_v to_o beware_v of_o trust_v to_o their_o own_o righteousness_n or_o of_o expect_v salvation_n by_o their_o own_o work_n but_o that_o instead_o of_o this_o he_o shall_v so_o severe_o enjoin_v they_o the_o practice_n of_o a_o universal_a righteousness_n as_o the_o only_a thing_n that_o please_v god_n and_o so_o severe_o threaten_v those_o who_o continue_v in_o any_o sin_n who_o break_v the_o least_o of_o his_o commandment_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o have_v the_o evangelist_n give_v we_o a_o imperfect_a account_n of_o our_o saviour_n doctrine_n and_o omit_v so_o essential_a a_o part_n of_o it_o as_o the_o imputation_n of_o his_o righteousness_n choose_v which_o side_n you_o please_v and_o the_o consequence_n be_v very_o bad_a if_o the_o first_o than_o christ_n be_v not_o faithful_a in_o the_o discharge_n of_o his_o prophetical_a office_n temporal_a messiah_n as_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o jew_n do_v and_o the_o receive_v the_o gentile_n into_o his_o church_n which_o s._n peter_n himself_o do_v not_o understand_v till_o he_o be_v necessary_a term_n and_o condition_n of_o salvation_n for_o his_o sermon_n be_v to_o be_v the_o rule_n of_o they_o and_o have_v the_o apostle_n teach_v any_o thing_n as_o necessary_a to_o salvation_n which_o our_o saviour_n have_v not_o teach_v especial_o any_o thing_n that_o do_v so_o plain_o contradict_v the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o saviour_n as_o this_o impute_a righteousness_n do_v it_o will_v very_o much_o have_v weaken_v their_o credit_n with_o i_o for_o this_o have_v be_v to_o preach_v another_o gospel_n than_o our_o saviour_n do_v and_o we_o have_v s._n paul_n command_n to_o reject_v unstable_a wrist_n as_o they_o do_v also_o the_o other_o scripture_n to_o their_o own_o destruction_n 2_o pet._n 3._o 16._o and_o yet_o if_o they_o can_v meet_v with_o any_o obscure_a phrase_n which_o will_v serve_v their_o turn_n without_o consider_v how_o their_o sense_n agree_v with_o the_o gospel_n of_o our_o saviour_n they_o make_v it_o the_o foundation_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o a_o stand_a rule_n to_o expound_v the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o to_o measure_v the_o orthodoxy_n of_o all_o opinion_n whereas_o on_o the_o contrary_a this_o aught_o to_o be_v a_o sufficient_a
