suffering_n consist_v of_o cruel_a mock_n christ_n have_v own_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o king_n of_o the_o jew_n that_o be_v a_o spiritual_a king_n in_o and_o over_o his_o church_n but_o the_o jew_n expect_v that_o the_o messiah_n shall_v have_v appear_v in_o the_o pomp_n of_o a_o earthly_a prince_n and_o find_v it_o to_o be_v quite_o otherwise_o in_o our_o saviour_n they_o look_v upon_o he_o as_o a_o deceiver_n and_o impostor_n and_o according_o treat_v he_o as_o a_o mock-king_n with_o all_o the_o mark_n of_o derision_n and_o scorn_n for_o first_o they_o put_v a_o crown_n upon_o his_o head_n but_o a_o very_a ignominious_a and_o painful_a one_o a_o crown_n of_o thorn_n they_o put_v a_o sceptre_n in_o his_o hand_n but_o that_o of_o a_o reed_n a_o robe_n of_o scarlet_a or_o purple_a upon_o his_o body_n and_o then_o bow_v their_o knee_n unto_o he_o as_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v before_o their_o prince_n cry_v hail_o king_n thus_o be_v all_o the_o mark_n of_o scorn_n imaginable_a put_v upon_o our_o dear_a redeemer_n yet_o what_o they_o do_v in_o jest_n god_n permit_v to_o be_v do_v in_o earnest_a for_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v ensign_n and_o mark_n of_o our_o sin_n bring_v upon_o the_o earth_n gen._n 3.18_o thorn_n and_o briar_n shall_v it_o bring_v forth_o christ_n by_o his_o bitter_a and_o bloody_a suffering_n have_v turn_v all_o the_o curse_n of_o act_n of_o wickedness_n as_o the_o conscience_n of_o heathen_n without_o the_o church_n may_v boggle_v at_o and_o protest_v against_o pilate_n a_o pagan_a pronounce_v christ_n innocent_a whilst_o he_o do_v not_o make_v himself_o so_o or_o only_o pretend_v to_o be_v so_o but_o real_o and_o indeed_o be_v so_o to_o wit_n the_o eternal_a son_n of_o god_n such_o as_o be_v indeed_o blasphemer_n and_o do_v arrogate_v to_o themselves_o what_o be_v proper_a to_o god_n only_o by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n they_o ought_v to_o be_v put_v to_o death_n but_o christ_n be_v not_o guilty_a of_o the_o violation_n of_o that_o law_n for_o he_o be_v indeed_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o do_v not_o make_v himself_o so_o observe_v 2._o how_o full_a of_o fear_n the_o conscience_n of_o pilate_n be_v when_o the_o jew_n tell_v he_o that_o jesus_n make_v himself_o the_o son_n of_o god_n he_o be_v afraid_a to_o condemn_v he_o not_o know_v but_o that_o he_o may_v be_v some_o divine_a and_o the_o father_n hence_o learn_v 1._o how_o prone_a we_o be_v to_o glory_n in_o our_o outward_a privilege_n and_o to_o reâ—y_v upon_o they_o whereas_o these_o be_v argument_n of_o god_n goodness_n towards_o we_o but_o no_o evidence_n of_o our_o goodness_n towards_o he_o 2._o that_o it_o be_v very_o dangerous_a and_o unsafe_a to_o pride_n ourselves_o in_o and_o depend_v upon_o any_o external_a privilege_n and_o prerogative_n whatsoever_o as_o our_o be_v bear_v within_o the_o pale_a of_o the_o visible_a church_n our_o descend_v from_o pious_a parent_n and_o holy_a progenitor_n for_o unless_o be_v undeniable_a proof_n that_o they_o be_v not_o the_o child_n of_o god_n hence_o learn_v that_o none_o can_v just_o pretend_v any_o interest_n in_o god_n as_o his_o child_n but_o they_o that_o love_n christ_n as_o be_v the_o express_a image_n of_o his_o father_n person_n and_o do_v hear_v and_o receive_v his_o doctrine_n as_o come_v from_o god_n this_o the_o jew_n do_v not_o do_v
