unto_o we_o this_o miracle_n by_o name_n say_v as_o ionas_n be_v in_o the_o whale_n belly_n three_o day_n and_o three_o night_n so_o must_v the_o son_n of_o man_n be_v etc_n etc_n even_o as_o therefore_o the_o authority_n of_o christ_n be_v confirm_v by_o heavenly_a prophecy_n and_o miracle_n as_o by_o cleanse_v the_o leper_n by_o restore_v the_o lame_a to_o limb_n by_o raise_v the_o dead_a and_o such_o like_a even_o so_o also_o the_o truth_n of_o this_o miracle_n of_o ionas_n be_v confirm_v by_o the_o same_o miracle_n wherefore_o although_o the_o heathenish_a ethnic_n deride_v our_o credulity_n and_o belief_n yet_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o certain_a sure_a and_o firm_a than_o these_o miracle_n our_o daily_a and_o common_a miracle_n do_v confirm_v and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o because_o they_o be_v common_a they_o be_v rather_o count_v natural_a than_o miraculous_a but_o in_o deed_n they_o be_v no_o less_o miracle_n than_o this_o which_o concern_v ionas_n wherefore_o the_o same_o god_n which_o preserve_v and_o quicken_v by_o his_o omnipotent_a power_n the_o unperfit_a child_n in_o the_o mother_n womb_n preserve_v also_o ionas_n in_o the_o whale_n belly_n but_o this_o miracle_n have_v his_o use_n first_o as_o god_n exercise_v and_o try_v the_o faith_n of_o ionas_n be_v as_o yet_o in_o the_o belly_n of_o the_o whale_n so_o he_o confirm_v the_o same_o by_o make_v the_o whale_n to_o cast_v he_o a_o land_n safe_a and_o sound_o furthermore_o it_o certefi_v we_o that_o in_o all_o our_o affliction_n we_o shall_v receive_v the_o help_n of_o god_n if_o we_o call_v upon_o god_n as_o ionas_n do_v as_o hereafter_o follow_v last_o of_o all_o this_o miracle_n prefigure_v the_o death_n burial_n and_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n as_o christ_n himself_o expound_v the_o same_o wherefore_o by_o this_o miracle_n we_o be_v admonish_v as_o well_o of_o the_o clemency_n of_o god_n in_o adversity_n as_o of_o the_o death_n and_o the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n that_o we_o also_o may_v conceive_v a_o hope_n of_o deliverance_n and_o be_v certify_v and_o sure_o persuade_v of_o our_o resurrection_n text_n ¶_o and_o ionas_n pray_v unto_o the_o lord_n his_o god_n out_o of_o the_o fish_n belly_n and_o say_v in_o my_o trouble_n i_o call_v unto_o the_o lord_n and_o he_o hear_v i_o out_o of_o the_o belly_n of_o hell_n i_o cry_v and_o thou_o hear_v my_o voice_n here_o follow_v the_o psalm_n which_o ionas_n make_v to_o give_v thanks_n unto_o god_n for_o his_o benefit_n but_o we_o must_v not_o think_v that_o he_o have_v so_o much_o leisure_n that_o he_o may_v walk_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o whale_n belly_n secure_o and_o sing_v this_o psalm_n to_o pass_v away_o the_o time_n for_o he_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o infinite_a dolour_n and_o grief_n of_o death_n and_o hell_n have_v no_o hope_n almost_o of_o deliverance_n therefore_o he_o pray_v unto_o the_o lord_n in_o the_o whale_n belly_n both_o with_o a_o sorrowful_a mind_n and_o with_o a_o undoubted_a faith_n also_o but_o after_o he_o be_v deliver_v and_o have_v escape_v danger_n he_o make_v this_o psalm_n by_o the_o which_o he_o do_v not_o only_o we_o must_v consider_v that_o this_o alteration_n be_v not_o rash_o bring_v to_o pass_v but_o by_o the_o just_a and_o wise_a council_n of_o god._n at_o the_o first_o ionas_n rejoice_v for_o the_o shadow_n of_o the_o vine_n now_o he_o sorrow_v for_o the_o destruction_n of_o the_o same_o such_o be_v the_o course_n and_o raze_v of_o man_n life_n one_o while_o he_o rejoice_v because_o of_o thereby_o to_o teach_v ionas_n that_o if_o he_o sorrow_v so_o much_o for_o the_o destruction_n of_o a_o wild_a vine_n for_o the_o which_o he_o never_o labour_v how_o much_o more_o shall_v god_n be_v sorry_a for_o the_o destruction_n of_o so_o great_a a_o city_n as_o ninive_n be_v of_o the_o which_o he_o be_v the_o creator_n and_o governor_n and_o how_o much_o more_o shall_v he_o spare_v so_o great_a a_o multitude_n let_v we_o learn_v therefore_o by_o this_o place_n that_o god_n do_v never_o cast_v we_o into_o any_o sorrow_n or_o affliction_n but_o that_o he_o mean_v to_o teach_v we_o somewhat_o as_o to_o prove_v our_o faith_n affliction_n to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o repentance_n or_o else_o to_o set_v forth_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o name_n furthermore_o this_o be_v not_o to_o be_v pretermit_v that_o ionas_n so_o often_o wish_v death_n unto_o himself_o when_o as_o he_o great_o fear_v death_n before_o he_o be_v swallow_v up_o of_o the_o whale_n here_o again_o the_o inconstancy_n of_o man_n be_v plain_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o oftentimes_o i_o wish_v for_o death_n say_v the_o poet_n and_o oftentimes_o i_o refuse_v it_o again_o so_o elias_n 19_o one_o while_o flee_v death_n and_o another_o while_n wish_v for_o the_o same_o this_o inconstancy_n of_o man_n nature_n be_v diligent_o to_o be_v note_v even_o in_o the_o holy_a man_n not_o that_o we_o ought_v to_o allow_v or_o excuse_v the_o same_o but_o because_o it_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o correct_v and_o amend_v the_o like_a in_o ourselves_o we_o can_v not_o put_v from_o we_o all_o fear_n of_o death_n neither_o can_v we_o let_v or_o cease_v to_o wish_v for_o death_n in_o great_a adversity_n but_o we_o must_v special_o beware_v lest_o we_o despair_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n whereas_o we_o ought_v to_o have_v a_o sure_a trust_n in_o christ_n and_o to_o suffer_v death_n with_o a_o valiant_a mind_n also_o we_o must_v beware_v least_o in_o wish_v for_o death_n we_o bring_v death_n to_o ourselves_o but_o rather_o we_o must_v persist_v in_o our_o vocation_n have_v a_o sure_a hope_n that_o although_o we_o be_v beset_v with_o danger_n on_o every_o side_n god_n will_v make_v away_o in_o the_o midst_n
