for_o those_o celestial_a and_o glorious_a mansion_n which_o god_n have_v provide_v for_o we_o a_o earthly_a sensual_a mind_n be_v so_o much_o wed_v to_o bodily_a pleasure_n as_o that_o it_o can_v enjoy_v its_o self_n without_o they_o and_o be_v incapable_a of_o taste_v or_o relish_v any_o other_o though_o real_o great_a and_o infinite_o to_o be_v prefer_v before_o they_o nay_o such_o person_n as_o mind_n only_o the_o concern_v of_o the_o body_n and_o be_v whole_o lead_v by_o its_o motion_n and_o inclination_n as_o do_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d as_o it_o be_v embody_n their_o soul_n will_v esteem_v it_o a_o great_a unhappiness_n to_o be_v clothe_v with_o a_o spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a body_n it_o will_v be_v like_o clothing_n a_o beggar_n in_o princely_a apparel_n such_o glorious_a body_n will_v be_v uneasy_a to_o they_o they_o will_v not_o know_v how_o to_o behave_v themselves_o in_o they_o they_o will_v even_o be_v glad_a to_o retire_v and_o put_v on_o their_o rag_n again_o but_o now_o by_o deny_v the_o solicitation_n of_o our_o flesh_n and_o contradict_v its_o lust_n and_o appetite_n and_o wean_a ourselves_o from_o bodily_a pleasure_n and_o subdue_a and_o mortify_v our_o carnal_a lust_n we_o fit_a and_o dispose_v ourselves_o for_o another_o state_n and_o when_o our_o soul_n be_v thus_o spiritualise_v they_o will_v soon_o grow_v weary_a of_o this_o flesh_n and_o long_o for_o their_o departure_n they_o will_v be_v always_o ready_a to_o take_v wing_n and_o fly_v away_o into_o the_o other_o world_n where_o at_o last_o they_o will_v meet_v with_o a_o body_n suit_v to_o their_o rational_a and_o spiritual_a appetite_n 2._o from_o hence_o we_o may_v give_v some_o account_n of_o the_o different_a degree_n of_o glory_n in_o the_o other_o state_n for_o though_o all_o good_a man_n shall_v have_v glorious_a body_n yet_o the_o glory_n of_o they_o all_o shall_v not_o be_v equal_a they_o shall_v all_o shine_v as_o star_n and_o yet_o one_o star_n differ_v from_o another_o star_n in_o glory_n there_o be_v one_o glory_n of_o the_o sun_n and_o another_o glory_n of_o the_o moon_n and_o another_o glory_n of_o the_o star_n so_o also_o be_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a some_o will_v have_v body_n more_o bright_a and_o resplendent_a than_o other_o those_o who_o have_v do_v some_o extraordinary_a service_n to_o their_o lord_n who_o have_v suffer_v brave_o and_o courageous_o for_o his_o name_n or_o those_o who_o by_o the_o constant_a exercise_n of_o severity_n and_o mortification_n have_v arrive_v to_o a_o high_a pitch_n and_o attain_v to_o a_o great_a measure_n of_o purity_n and_o holiness_n than_o other_o shall_v shine_v as_o star_n of_o the_o first_o magnitude_n dan._n 12.3_o and_o they_o that_o be_v wise_a shall_v shine_v as_o the_o brightness_n of_o the_o firmament_n and_o they_o that_o turn_v many_o to_o righteousness_n as_o the_o star_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o pure_a and_o most_o spiritual_a body_n shall_v be_v give_v to_o those_o who_o be_v most_o fit_v for_o they_o to_o the_o most_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a soul_n so_o that_o this_o be_v no_o little_a encouragement_n to_o we_o to_o make_v the_o great_a proficiency_n we_o can_v possible_o in_o the_o way_n of_o virtue_n and_o piety_n since_o the_o more_o we_o wean_v ourselves_o from_o these_o present_a thing_n and_o sensible_a object_n the_o more_o glorious_a and_o heavenly_a will_v our_o body_n be_v at_o the_o resurrection_n 3._o let_v this_o consideration_n engage_v we_o patient_o to_o bear_v those_o affliction_n sickness_n and_o bodily_a pain_n which_o we_o be_v exercise_v with_o in_o this_o life_n the_o time_n of_o our_o redemption_n draw_v nigh_o let_v we_o but_o hold_v out_o awhile_o long_o and_o all_o tear_n shall_v be_v wipe_v from_o our_o eye_n and_o we_o shall_v never_o sigh_v nor_o sorrow_n any_o more_o and_o how_o soon_o shall_v we_o forget_v all_o the_o misery_n and_o uneasiness_n we_o endure_v in_o this_o earthly_a tabernacle_n when_o once_o we_o be_v clothe_v with_o that_o house_n which_o be_v from_o above_o we_o be_v now_o but_o in_o our_o journey_n towards_o the_o heavenly_a canaan_n be_v pilgrim_n and_o stranger_n here_o and_o therefore_o must_v expect_v to_o struggle_v with_o many_o strait_n and_o difficulty_n but_o it_o will_v not_o be_v long_o before_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o our_o journey_n end_n and_o that_o will_v make_v amends_o for_o all_o we_o shall_v then_o be_v in_o a_o quiet_a and_o safe_a harbour_n out_o of_o the_o reach_n of_o those_o storm_n and_o danger_n wherewith_o we_o be_v here_o encompass_v we_o shall_v then_o be_v at_o home_n at_o our_o father_n house_n no_o more_o expose_v to_o those_o inconvenience_n which_o so_o long_o as_o we_o abide_v in_o this_o tabernacle_n of_o clay_n we_o be_v subject_a unto_o and_o let_v we_o not_o forfeit_v all_o this_o happiness_n only_o for_o want_n of_o a_o little_a more_o patience_n and_o constancy_n but_o let_v we_o hold_v out_o to_o the_o end_n and_o we_o shall_v at_o last_o receive_v abundant_a recompense_n for_o all_o the_o trouble_n and_o uneasiness_n of_o our_o passage_n and_o be_v enstate_v in_o perfect_a endless_a rest_n and_o peace_n 4._o let_v this_o especial_o arm_n and_o fortify_v we_o against_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n for_o death_n be_v now_o conquer_v and_o disarm_v and_o can_v do_v we_o no_o hurt_n it_o separate_v we_o indeed_o from_o this_o body_n for_o a_o while_n but_o it_o be_v only_o that_o we_o may_v receive_v it_o again_o far_o more_o pure_a and_o glorious_a it_o take_v away_o our_o old_a rag_n and_o bestow_v upon_o we_o royal_a robe_n either_o therefore_o let_v we_o lay_v aside_o the_o profession_n of_o this_o hope_n of_o the_o resurrection_n unto_o life_n or_o else_o let_v we_o with_o more_o courage_n expect_v our_o own_o dissolution_n and_o with_o great_a patience_n bear_v that_o of_o our_o friend_n and_o relation_n woe_n be_v we_o who_o be_v force_v still_o to_o sojourn_v in_o mesech_n and_o to_o dwell_v in_o the_o tent_n of_o kedar_n for_o how_o can_v it_o be_v well_o with_o we_o so_o long_o as_o we_o be_v chain_v to_o these_o earthly_a carcase_n as_o god_n therefore_o say_v once_o to_o jacob_n fear_v not_o to_o go_v down_o into_o egypt_n for_o i_o will_v go_v down_o with_o thou_o and_o i_o will_v sure_o bring_v thou_o up_o again_o so_o may_v i_o say_v to_o you_o fear_v not_o to_o go_v down_o into_o the_o house_n of_o rottenness_n fear_v not_o to_o lay_v down_o your_o head_n in_o the_o dust_n for_o god_n will_v certain_o bring_v you_o out_o again_o and_o that_o after_o a_o much_o more_o glorious_a manner_n let_v death_n pull_v down_o this_o house_n of_o clay_n since_o god_n have_v undertake_v to_o rear_v it_o up_o again_o infinite_o more_o splendid_a and_o useful_a 5._o and_o last_o let_v we_o all_o take_v care_n to_o live_v so_o here_o that_o we_o may_v be_v account_v worthy_a to_o obtain_v the_o other_o world_n and_o the_o resurrection_n from_o the_o dead_a let_v we_o rise_v in_o a_o moral_a sense_n from_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n to_o the_o life_n of_o righteousness_n and_o then_o the_o second_o death_n shall_v have_v no_o power_n over_o we_o a_o renew_v and_o purify_a mind_n and_o soul_n shall_v never_o fail_v of_o a_o heavenly_a and_o glorious_a body_n in_o the_o other_o world_n but_o a_o sensual_a and_o worldly_a mind_n as_o it_o have_v no_o affection_n for_o so_o can_v it_o find_v no_o place_n in_o those_o pure_a region_n of_o light_n and_o happiness_n since_o therefore_o we_o have_v this_o comfortable_a hope_n of_o a_o glorious_a resurrection_n unto_o life_n eternal_a let_v we_o purify_v ourselves_o from_o all_o filthiness_n of_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n let_v we_o hold_v fast_o our_o profession_n and_o steadfast_o adhere_v to_o our_o duty_n whatever_o we_o may_v lose_v or_o suffer_v by_o it_o here_o as_o know_v we_o shall_v reap_v if_o we_o faint_v not_o and_o this_o be_v saint_n paul_n exhortation_n with_o which_o he_o conclude_v his_o discourse_n of_o the_o resurrection_n therefore_o my_o belove_a brethren_n be_v you_o steadfast_a unmoveable_a always_o abound_v in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n forasmuch_o as_o you_o know_v that_o your_o labour_n be_v not_o in_o vain_a in_o the_o lord_n a_o sermon_n preach_v before_o the_o house_n of_o commons_z the_o twelve_o sermon_n job_n xxvii_o 5_o 6._o god_n forbid_v that_o i_o shall_v justify_v you_o till_o i_o die_v i_o will_v not_o remove_v my_o integrity_n from_o i_o my_o righteousness_n i_o hold_v fast_o and_o will_v not_o let_v it_o go_v my_o heart_n shall_v not_o reproach_v i_o so_o long_o as_o i_o live_v these_o word_n may_v be_v consider_v as_o the_o resolution_n of_o a_o true_o honest_a man_n who_o virtue_n and_o goodness_n depend_v not_o upon_o any_o outward_a accident_n or_o
the_o will_n of_o god_n to_o raise_v again_o the_o same_o flesh_n which_o be_v lay_v in_o the_o grave_n and_o then_o we_o may_v safe_o have_v recourse_n to_o the_o omnipotency_n of_o god_n to_o confirm_v and_o establish_v our_o faith_n of_o it_o i_o conclude_v this_o head_n therefore_o with_o that_o question_n of_o st._n paul_n act_v 26.8_o why_o shall_v it_o be_v think_v a_o thing_n incredible_a with_o you_o that_o god_n shall_v raise_v the_o dead_a the_o change_n from_o death_n to_o life_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o that_o from_o nothing_o into_o be_v and_o if_o we_o believe_v that_o god_n almighty_a by_o the_o word_n of_o his_o power_n at_o first_o make_v the_o heaven_n and_o the_o earth_n of_o no_o pre-existent_a matter_n what_o reason_n have_v we_o to_o doubt_v but_o that_o the_o same_o god_n by_o that_o mighty_a power_n whereby_o he_o be_v able_a to_o subdue_v all_o thing_n to_o himself_o can_v also_o raise_v to_o life_n again_o those_o who_o be_v former_o alive_a and_o have_v not_o yet_o whole_o cease_v to_o be_v and_o though_o we_o can_v answer_v all_o the_o difficulty_n and_o objection_n which_o the_o wit_n of_o man_n who_o interest_n it_o be_v that_o their_o soul_n shall_v die_v with_o their_o body_n and_o both_o perish_v together_o have_v find_v out_o to_o puzzle_v this_o doctrine_n with_o though_o we_o can_v full_o satisfy_v our_o mind_n and_o reason_n about_o the_o manner_n how_o it_o shall_v be_v do_v or_o the_o nature_n of_o those_o body_n we_o shall_v rise_v with_o yet_o this_o ought_v not_o in_o the_o least_o to_o shake_v or_o weaken_v our_o belief_n of_o this_o most_o important_a article_n of_o our_o christian_a faith_n be_v it_o not_o sufficient_a that_o a_o almighty_a be_v with_o who_o nothing_o be_v impossible_a have_v solemn_o promise_v and_o pass_v his_o word_n that_o he_o will_v re-animate_a and_o re-enliven_a our_o mortal_a body_n and_o after_o death_n raise_v we_o to_o life_n again_o let_v those_o who_o presume_v to_o mock_v at_o this_o glorious_a hope_n and_o expectation_n of_o all_o good_a man_n and_o be_v continual_o expose_v this_o doctrine_n and_o raise_v objection_n against_o it_o first_o try_v their_o skill_n upon_o the_o ordinary_a and_o daily_a appearance_n of_o nature_n which_o they_o have_v every_o day_n before_o their_o eye_n let_v they_o rational_o solve_v and_o explain_v every_o thing_n that_o happen_v in_o this_o world_n of_o which_o themselves_o be_v witness_n before_o they_o think_v to_o move_v we_o from_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o resurrection_n by_o raise_v some_o dust_n and_o difficulty_n about_o it_o when_o omnipotency_n itself_o stand_v engage_v for_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o can_v they_o tell_v i_o how_o their_o own_o body_n be_v frame_v and_o fashion_v and_o curious_o wrought_v can_v they_o give_v i_o a_o plain_a and_o satisfactory_a account_n by_o what_o orderly_a step_n and_o degret_v this_o glorious_a and_o stately_a structure_n consist_v of_o so_o many_o several_a part_n and_o member_n which_o discover_v so_o much_o delicate_a workmanship_n and_o rare_a contrivance_n be_v at_o first_o erect_v how_o be_v the_o first_o drop_n of_o blood_n make_v and_o how_o come_v the_o heart_n and_o vein_n and_o artery_n to_o receive_v and_o contain_v it_o of_o what_o and_o by_o what_o mean_n be_v the_o nerve_n and_o fibre_n make_v what_o fix_v those_o little_a string_n in_o their_o due_a place_n and_o situation_n and_o fit_v and_o adapt_v they_o for_o those_o several_a use_n for_o which_o they_o serve_v what_o distinguish_v and_o separate_v the_o brain_n from_o the_o other_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o place_v it_o in_o the_o head_n and_o fill_v it_o with_o animal_n spirit_n to_o move_v and_o animate_v the_o whole_a body_n how_o come_v the_o body_n to_o be_v fence_v with_o bone_n and_o sinew_n to_o be_v clothe_v with_o skin_n and_o flesh_n distinguish_v into_o various_a muscle_n let_v they_o but_o answer_v i_o these_o and_o all_o the_o other_o question_n i_o can_v put_v to_o they_o about_o the_o formation_n of_o their_o own_o body_n and_o then_o i_o will_v willing_o undertake_v to_o solve_v all_o the_o objection_n and_o difficulty_n that_o they_o can_v raise_v concern_v the_o resurrection_n of_o it_o but_o if_o they_o can_v give_v any_o account_n of_o the_o formation_n of_o that_o body_n they_o now_o live_v in_o but_o be_v force_v to_o have_v recourse_n to_o the_o infinite_a power_n and_o wisdom_n of_o the_o first_o cause_n the_o great_a and_o sovereign_a orderer_n and_o disposer_n of_o all_o thing_n let_v they_o know_v that_o the_o same_o power_n be_v able_a also_o to_o quicken_v and_o enliven_v it_o again_o after_o it_o be_v rot_v and_o return_v unto_o dust_n we_o must_v believe_v very_o few_o thing_n if_o this_o be_v a_o sufficient_a reason_n for_o our_o doubt_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o there_o be_v some_o thing_n belong_v to_o it_o which_o we_o can_v perfect_o comprehend_v or_o give_v a_o rational_a account_n of_o in_o this_o state_n our_o conception_n and_o reason_n about_o the_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o the_o future_a and_o invisible_a world_n be_v very_o childish_a and_o vain_a and_o we_o do_v but_o guess_v and_o talk_v at_o random_n whenever_o we_o venture_v beyond_o what_o god_n have_v reveal_v to_o we_o let_v we_o not_o therefore_o perplex_v and_o puzzle_v ourselves_o with_o those_o difficulty_n which_o have_v be_v raise_v concern_v this_o doctrine_n of_o the_o resurrection_n for_o it_o be_v no_o absurdity_n to_o suppose_v that_o a_o infinite_a power_n may_v effect_v such_o thing_n as_o seem_v whole_o impossible_a to_o such_o finite_a being_n as_o we_o be_v but_o rather_o let_v we_o hold_v fast_o to_o what_o be_v plain_o reveal_v concern_v it_o namely_o that_o all_o those_o who_o love_n and_o fear_n god_n shall_v be_v raise_v again_o after_o death_n the_o fame_n man_n they_o be_v before_o and_o live_v for_o ever_o with_o god_n in_o unspeakable_a happiness_n both_o of_o body_n and_o soul_n thus_o i_o have_v endeavour_v to_o show_v the_o possbility_n of_o a_o resurrection_n in_o the_o strict_a sense_n i_o now_o proceed_v to_o the_o second_o thing_n i_o propound_v which_o be_v ii_o since_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o the_o body_n we_o shall_v rise_v with_o though_o it_o may_v be_v as_o to_o substance_n the_o same_o with_o our_o terrestrial_a body_n yet_o will_v be_v so_o alter_v and_o change_v in_o its_o mode_n and_o quality_n that_o it_o will_v be_v quite_o another_o kind_n of_o body_n from_o what_o it_o be_v before_o to_o give_v you_o a_o short_a account_n of_o the_o difference_n the_o scripture_n make_v between_o a_o glorify_a body_n and_o this_o mortal_a flesh_n but_o before_o i_o do_v this_o i_o shall_v premise_v this_o one_o thing_n that_o all_o our_o conception_n of_o the_o future_a state_n be_v yet_o very_o dark_a and_o imperfect_a we_o be_v sufficient_o assure_v that_o we_o shall_v all_o after_o death_n be_v alive_a again_o the_o very_a same_o man_n and_o person_n we_o be_v here_o and_o that_o those_o that_o have_v do_v good_a shall_v receive_v glory_n and_o honour_n and_o eternal_a life_n but_o the_o nature_n of_o that_o joy_n and_o happiness_n which_o be_v provide_v for_o we_o in_o the_o other_o world_n be_v not_o so_o plain_o reveal_v this_o we_o know_v that_o it_o vast_o surpass_v all_o our_o imagination_n and_o that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a in_o this_o imperfect_a state_n to_o fancy_n or_o conceive_v the_o greatness_n of_o it_o we_o have_v not_o word_n big_a enough_o full_o to_o express_v it_o or_o if_o it_o be_v describe_v to_o we_o our_o understanding_n be_v too_o short_a and_o narrow_a to_o comprehend_v it_o and_o therefore_o the_o scripture_n from_o which_o alone_o we_o have_v all_o we_o know_v of_o a_o future_a state_n describe_v it_o either_o first_o negative_o by_o propound_v to_o we_o the_o several_a evil_n and_o inconvenience_n we_o shall_v then_o be_v total_o free_v from_o or_o else_o second_o by_o compare_v the_o glory_n that_o shall_v then_o be_v reveal_v with_o those_o thing_n which_o man_n do_v most_o value_n and_o admire_v here_o whence_o it_o be_v call_v a_o inheritance_n a_o kingdom_n a_o throne_n a_o crown_n a_o sceptre_n a_o rich_a treasure_n a_o river_n of_o pleasure_n a_o splendid_a robe_n and_o a_o exceed_a and_o eternal_a weight_n of_o glory_n all_o which_o do_v not_o signify_v to_o we_o the_o strict_a nature_n of_o that_o happiness_n which_o be_v promise_v we_o in_o another_o world_n which_o do_v not_o consist_v in_o any_o outward_a sensible_a joy_n or_o pleasure_n but_o these_o be_v the_o best_a and_o great_a thing_n which_o this_o world_n can_v bless_v we_o with_o which_o man_n do_v ordinary_o must_v admire_v and_o value_v and_o covet_v the_o possession_n of_o be_v make_v use_n of_o to_o set_v out_o to_o we_o the_o transcendent_a blessedness_n of_o
a_o resurrection_n seem_v to_o require_v it_o namely_o that_o the_o very_a same_o body_n which_o die_v shall_v be_v raise_v again_o nothing_o die_v but_o the_o body_n nothing_o be_v corrupt_v but_o the_o body_n the_o soul_n go_v upward_o and_o return_n to_o god_n and_o therefore_o nothing_o else_o can_v be_v proper_o say_v to_o be_v raise_v again_o but_o only_o that_o very_a body_n which_o die_v and_o be_v corrupt_v if_o god_n give_v to_o our_o soul_n at_o the_o last_o day_n a_o new_a body_n this_o can_v literal_o be_v call_v the_o resurrection_n of_o our_o body_n because_o here_o be_v no_o reproduction_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n that_o be_v before_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v plain_o imply_v in_o the_o word_n resurrection_n indeed_o the_o word_n be_v sometime_o use_v otherwise_o as_o when_o a_o house_n or_o temple_n that_o have_v be_v consume_v by_o fire_n be_v rebuilt_a on_o the_o same_o ground_n where_o it_o former_o stand_v this_o be_v often_o though_o improper_o and_o figurative_o call_v the_o resurrection_n of_o it_o and_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n do_v the_o latin_n use_v the_o word_n resurgere_fw-la but_o yet_o the_o most_o proper_a and_o literal_a signification_n of_o the_o word_n resurrection_n be_v that_o the_o same_o flesh_n which_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o soul_n at_o the_o day_n of_o death_n shall_v be_v again_o vital_o unite_v to_o it_o 3._o there_o be_v many_o place_n of_o scripture_n which_o in_o their_o strict_a and_o literal_a meaning_n do_v seem_v plain_o to_o favour_v this_o sense_n of_o the_o article_n that_o the_o very_a same_o flesh_n shall_v be_v raise_v again_o what_o more_o plain_a and_o express_a say_v st._n hierome_n than_o that_o of_o job_n job_n 19.26_o 27._o though_o after_o my_o skin_n worm_n destroy_v this_o body_n yet_o in_o my_o flesh_n shall_v i_o see_v god_n who_o i_o shall_v see_v for_o myself_o and_o my_o eye_n shall_v behold_v and_o not_o another_o but_o however_o plain_a these_o word_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v yet_o i_o can_v think_v that_o the_o primary_n and_o original_a meaning_n of_o they_o do_v at_o all_o relate_v to_o the_o resurrection_n nor_o be_v they_o ever_o so_o understand_v and_o interpret_v by_o the_o jew_n as_o grotius_n tell_v we_o not_o but_o that_o they_o may_v be_v prophetical_a of_o it_o and_o so_o by_o way_n of_o accommodation_n may_v be_v fit_o apply_v to_o it_o but_o the_o first_o and_o most_o easy_a sense_n of_o the_o word_n seem_v to_o be_v this_o after_o my_o skin_n be_v consume_v let_v that_o which_o remain_v of_o i_o likewise_o by_o piecemeal_n be_v destroy_v yet_o i_o be_o confident_a that_o before_o i_o die_v with_o these_o very_a eye_n i_o shall_v see_v my_o redeemer_n and_o be_v restore_v by_o he_o to_o my_o former_a happy_a state_n so_o that_o the_o word_n be_v a_o plain_a prophecy_n of_o his_o own_o deliverance_n and_o a_o high_a expression_n of_o his_o confident_a hope_n in_o god_n that_o in_o time_n he_o will_v vindicate_v his_o innocence_n and_o bring_v he_o out_o of_o all_o his_o trouble_n but_o if_o this_o place_n will_v not_o hold_v there_o be_v other_o in_o the_o new_a testament_n of_o the_o same_o importance_n st._n paul_n in_o the_o 53d_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n speak_v of_o our_o body_n and_o the_o glorious_a change_n it_o shall_v undergo_v at_o the_o resurrection_n tell_v we_o that_o this_o corruptible_fw-fr shall_v put_v on_o incorruption_n and_o this_o mortal_a shall_v put_v on_o immortality_n now_o by_o this_o corruptible_a and_o this_o mortal_a can_v only_o be_v mean_v that_o body_n which_o we_o now_o carry_v about_o with_o we_o and_o shall_v one_o day_n lie_v down_o in_o the_o dust_n thus_o also_o the_o same_o apostle_n tell_v we_o rom._n 8.11_o he_o that_o raise_v up_o christ_n from_o the_o dead_a shall_v also_o quicken_v our_o mortal_a body_n now_o that_o which_o shall_v be_v quicken_v and_o raise_v to_o life_n again_o can_v be_v nothing_o else_o but_o that_o very_a body_n of_o flesh_n which_o be_v mortal_a and_o die_v though_o there_o be_v some_o question_n to_o be_v make_v whether_o the_o quicken_a our_o mortal_a body_n by_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n dwell_v in_o we_o shall_v not_o rather_o be_v understand_v in_o a_o metaphorical_a or_o moral_a sense_n of_o the_o first_o resurrection_n from_o the_o death_n of_o sin_n to_o the_o life_n of_o righteousness_n than_o of_o the_o general_a resurrection_n at_o the_o consummation_n of_o all_o thing_n but_o far_o the_o mention_n and_o description_n the_o scripture_n make_v of_o the_o place_n from_o whence_o the_o dead_a shall_v rise_v do_v seem_v plain_o to_o intimate_v that_o the_o same_o body_n which_o be_v dead_a shall_v revive_v again_o thus_o we_o read_v in_o daniel_n ch._n 12._o v._n 2._o that_o those_o that_o sleep_n in_o the_o dust_n of_o the_o earth_n shall_v awake_v some_o to_o everlasting_a life_n and_o some_o to_o shame_n and_o everlasting_a death_n where_o we_o may_v yet_o far_o observe_v that_o the_o metaphor_n of_o sleep_v and_o awake_v by_o which_o our_o death_n and_o resurrection_n be_v here_o express_v do_v seem_v to_o imply_v that_o when_o we_o rise_v again_o our_o body_n will_v be_v as_o much_o the_o same_o with_o those_o we_o live_v in_o as_o they_o be_v when_o we_o awake_v the_o same_o with_o those_o we_o have_v before_o we_o lay_v ourselves_o down_o to_o sleep_v thus_o again_o it_o be_v say_v in_o st._n john_n gospel_n chap._n 5._o verse_n 28_o and_o 29._o the_o hour_n be_v come_v in_o the_o which_o all_o that_o be_v in_o the_o grave_n shall_v hear_v his_o voice_n and_o shall_v come_v forth_o they_o that_o have_v do_v good_a unto_o the_o resurrection_n of_o life_n and_o they_o that_o have_v do_v evil_a unto_o the_o resurrection_n of_o damnation_n and_o in_o the_o revelation_n chap._n 20._o verse_n 13._o and_o the_o sea_n give_v up_o the_o dead_a which_o be_v in_o it_o and_o death_n and_o hell_n that_o be_v the_o grave_n deliver_v up_o the_o dead_a that_o be_v in_o they_o and_o they_o be_v judge_v every_o man_n according_a to_o their_o work_n now_o if_o the_o same_o flesh_n shall_v not_o be_v raise_v again_o what_o need_n be_v there_o of_o ransack_v the_o grave_n at_o the_o end_n of_o the_o word_n the_o sea_n can_v give_v up_o no_o other_o body_n but_o the_o same_o which_o it_o receive_v in_o nor_o can_v the_o grave_n deliver_v up_o any_o but_o only_o those_o that_o be_v lay_v therein_o if_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a that_o we_o shall_v rise_v with_o the_o very_a same_o body_n the_o grave_n need_v not_o be_v open_v but_o our_o flesh_n may_v be_v permit_v to_o rest_v there_o for_o ever_o to_o this_o may_v be_v add_v that_o st._n paul_n tell_v we_o in_o the_o 3d_o chapter_n of_o the_o epistle_n to_o the_o philippian_n verse_n 21._o that_o our_o saviour_n shall_v change_v our_o vile_a body_n that_o it_o may_v be_v fashion_v like_o unto_o his_o glorious_a body_n now_o this_o vile_a body_n can_v be_v no_o other_o than_o this_o flesh_n and_o blood_n which_o we_o be_v now_o clothe_v with_o restore_v to_o life_n again_o 4._o if_o we_o consider_v the_o several_a instance_n and_o example_n either_o of_o those_o who_o do_v immediate_o ascend_v up_o into_o heaven_n or_o of_o those_o who_o after_o death_n be_v restore_v to_o life_n again_o they_o all_o seem_v plain_o to_o confirm_v this_o opinion_n that_o at_o the_o last_o day_n we_o shall_v rise_v again_o with_o the_o very_a same_o flesh_n and_o blood_n which_o we_o have_v here_o enoch_n and_o elias_n of_o old_a be_v translate_v into_o heaven_n in_o their_o terrestrial_a body_n and_o therefore_o may_v be_v suppose_v now_o to_o live_v there_o with_o the_o same_o flesh_n and_o part_n they_o have_v when_o they_o be_v here_o upon_o earth_n and_o those_o three_o that_o be_v raise_v from_o the_o dead_a in_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o those_o that_o be_v recall_v to_o life_n by_o our_o saviour_n or_o accompany_v he_o at_o his_o resurrection_n all_o appear_v again_o in_o the_o very_a same_o body_n they_o have_v before_o their_o dissolution_n and_o these_o be_v example_n and_o type_n of_o the_o general_a resurrection_n and_o therefore_o our_o resurrection_n must_v resemble_v they_o and_o we_o also_o must_v appear_v at_o the_o last_o day_n with_o the_o same_o body_n we_o live_v in_o here_o even_o our_o bless_a saviour_n himself_o who_o be_v the_o first_o fruit_n of_o they_o that_o sleep_v do_v raise_v his_o own_o body_n according_a to_o that_o prediction_n of_o he_o destroy_v this_o temple_n and_o in_o three_o day_n i_o will_v build_v it_o up_o again_o nay_o he_o appear_v to_o his_o disciple_n with_o the_o very_a print_n of_o the_o nail_n in_o his_o hand_n and_o foot_n and_o with_o all_o the_o other_o mark_n of_o his_o crucifixion_n behold_v my_o hand_n and_o my_o
another_o life_n though_o indeed_o it_o be_v quite_o of_o another_o kind_n and_o infinite_o great_a than_o the_o great_a worldly_a happiness_n these_o be_v only_o little_a comparison_n to_o help_v our_o weak_a apprehension_n and_o childish_a fancy_n but_o we_o shall_v never_o true_o and_o full_o know_v the_o glory_n of_o the_o other_o world_n till_o we_o come_v to_o enjoy_v they_o it_o do_v not_o yet_o appear_v what_o we_o shall_v be_v from_o the_o description_n which_o the_o scripture_n give_v of_o the_o other_o world_n as_o from_o a_o map_n of_o a_o unknown_a country_n we_o may_v frame_v in_o our_o mind_n a_o rude_a confuse_a idea_n and_o conception_n of_o it_o and_o from_o thence_o as_o moses_n from_o the_o top_n of_o mount_n pisgah_n may_v take_v some_o little_a imperfect_a prospect_n of_o the_o land_n of_o promise_n but_o we_o shall_v never_o have_v a_o complete_a notion_n of_o it_o till_o we_o ourselves_o be_v enter_v into_o it_o however_o so_o much_o of_o our_o future_a happiness_n be_v reveal_v to_o we_o as_o may_v be_v sufficient_a to_o raise_v our_o thought_n and_o affection_n above_o the_o empty_a shadow_n and_o fade_a beauty_n and_o flatter_a glory_n of_o this_o low_a world_n to_o make_v we_o sensible_a how_o mean_a and_o trifle_a our_o present_a joy_n and_o fatisfaction_n be_v and_o to_o excite_v and_o engage_v our_o best_a and_o most_o hearty_a endeavour_n towards_o the_o attainment_n of_o it_o whatever_o difficulty_n and_o discouragement_n we_o may_v meet_v with_o in_o this_o life_n though_o all_o that_o can_v be_v say_v or_o we_o can_v possible_o know_v of_o it_o come_v infinite_o short_a of_o what_o one_o day_n we_o shall_v feel_v and_o perceive_v and_o be_v real_o possess_v of_o have_v premise_v this_o i_o come_v to_o consider_v what_o change_n shall_v be_v wrought_v in_o our_o body_n at_o the_o resurrection_n which_o be_v no_o small_a part_n of_o our_o future_a happiness_n now_o this_o change_n according_a to_o the_o account_n the_o scripture_n give_v of_o it_o will_v consist_v chief_o in_o these_o four_o thing_n 1._o that_o our_o body_n shall_v be_v raise_v immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a 2._o that_o they_o shall_v be_v raise_v in_o glory_n 3._o that_o they_o shall_v be_v raise_v in_o power_n 4._o that_o they_o shall_v be_v raise_v spiritual_a body_n all_o which_o property_n of_o our_o glorify_a body_n be_v mention_v by_o st._n paul_n in_o this_o chapter_n verse_n 42_o 43_o 44._o so_o also_o be_v the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o dead_a it_o be_v sow_o in_o corruption_n it_o be_v raise_v in_o incorruption_n it_o be_v sow_o in_o dishonour_n it_o be_v raise_v in_o glory_n it_o be_v sow_o in_o weakness_n it_o be_v raise_v in_o power_n it_o be_v sow_o a_o natural_a body_n it_o be_v raise_v a_o spiritual_a body_n and_o the_o explication_n of_o these_o word_n will_v give_v we_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o glorify_a body_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v in_o heaven_n and_o that_o mortal_a flesh_n and_o vile_a earth_n which_o we_o be_v now_o burden_a with_o 1._o the_o body_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v at_o the_o resurrection_n will_v be_v immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a verse_n 53._o for_o this_o corruptible_a must_v put_v on_o incorruption_n and_o this_o mortal_a must_v put_v on_o immortality_n now_o these_o word_n immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a do_v not_o only_o signify_v that_o we_o shall_v die_v no_o more_o for_o in_o that_o sense_n the_o body_n of_o the_o damn_a be_v also_o raise_v immortal_a and_o incorruptible_a since_o they_o must_v live_v for_o ever_o though_o it_o be_v in_o intolerable_a pain_n and_o misery_n but_o they_o denote_v far_o a_o perfect_a freedom_n from_o all_o those_o bodily_a evil_n which_o sin_n have_v bring_v into_o the_o world_n and_o from_o whatever_o be_v penal_a afflictive_a or_o uneasy_a to_o we_o that_o our_o body_n shall_v not_o be_v subject_a to_o pain_n or_o disease_n or_o those_o other_o inconvenience_n to_o which_o they_o be_v now_o daily_o obnoxious_a this_o be_v call_v in_o scripture_n the_o redemption_n of_o our_o body_n the_o free_v they_o from_o all_o those_o evil_n and_o malady_n which_o they_o be_v here_o subject_a unto_o be_v we_o at_o the_o general_a resurrection_n to_o receive_v the_o same_o body_n again_o subject_n to_o those_o frailty_n and_o misery_n which_o in_o this_o state_n we_o be_v force_v to_o wrestle_v with_o i_o much_o doubt_v whether_o a_o wise_a consider_v person_n be_v it_o leave_v to_o his_o choice_n will_v willing_o take_v it_o again_o whether_o he_o will_v not_o choose_v to_o weary_a and_o they_o shall_v walk_v and_o not_o faint_a or_o as_o another_o express_v it_o they_o shall_v shine_v and_o run_v too_o and_o fro_o like_a spark_n among_o the_o stubble_n the_o speed_n of_o their_o motion_n shall_v be_v like_o that_o of_o devour_a fire_n in_o a_o heap_n of_o dry_a stubble_n and_o the_o height_n of_o it_o shall_v surpass_v the_o tower_a flight_n of_o the_o eagle_n for_o they_o shall_v meet_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o air_n when_o he_o come_v to_o judgement_n and_o afterward_o mount_v up_o with_o he_o into_o the_o three_o and_o high_a heaven_n this_o earthly_a body_n be_v continual_o grovel_v on_o the_o ground_n slow_a and_o heavy_a in_o all_o its_o motion_n listless_a and_o soon_o tire_v with_o action_n and_o the_o soul_n that_o dwell_v in_o it_o be_v force_v as_o it_o be_v to_o drag_v and_o hale_v it_o along_o but_o our_o heavenly_a body_n shall_v be_v as_o free_v as_o active_a and_o nimble_a as_o our_o very_a thought_n be_v 4._o and_o last_o our_o body_n shall_v be_v raise_v spiritual_a body_n not_o of_o a_o spiritual_a substance_n for_o then_o the_o word_n will_v imply_v a_o contradiction_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o the_o same_o thing_n shall_v be_v both_o a_o spiritual_a and_o a_o bodily_a substance_n but_o spiritual_a be_v here_o oppose_v not_o to_o corporeal_a but_o to_o natural_a or_o animal_n and_o by_o it_o be_v express_v as_o it_o be_v ordinary_o interpret_v the_o subtlety_n and_o tenuity_n and_o purity_n of_o our_o heavenly_a body_n but_o i_o will_v rather_o explain_v it_o thus_o in_o this_o state_n our_o spirit_n be_v force_v to_o serve_v our_o body_n and_o to_o attend_v their_o leisure_n and_o do_v mighty_o depend_v upon_o they_o in_o most_o of_o their_o operation_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a in_o the_o other_o world_n our_o body_n shall_v whole_o serve_v our_o spirit_n and_o minister_v unto_o they_o and_o depend_v upon_o they_o so_o that_o by_o a_o natural_a body_n i_o understand_v a_o body_n fit_v for_o this_o low_a and_o sensible_a world_n for_o this_o earthly_a state_n by_o a_o spiritual_a body_n such_o a_o one_o as_o be_v suit_v and_o accommodate_v to_o a_o spiritual_a state_n to_o a_o invisible_a world_n to_o such_o a_o life_n as_o the_o saint_n and_o angel_n lead_v in_o heaven_n and_o indeed_o this_o be_v the_o principal_a difference_n between_o this_o mortal_a body_n and_o our_o glorify_a body_n this_o flesh_n which_o now_o we_o be_v so_o apt_a to_o dote_v upon_o be_v one_o of_o the_o great_a and_o most_o dangerous_a enemy_n we_o have_v and_o therefore_o be_v defy_v and_o renounce_v by_o all_o christian_n in_o their_o baptism_n as_o well_o as_o the_o world_n and_o the_o devil_n it_o continual_o tempt_v and_o solicit_v we_o to_o evil_a every_o sense_n be_v a_o snare_n to_o we_o and_o all_o its_o lust_n and_o appetite_n be_v inordinate_a and_o insatiable_a it_o be_v impatient_a of_o christ_n yoke_n and_o refuse_v discipline_n it_o be_v ungovernable_a and_o often_o rebell_v against_o reason_n and_o the_o law_n in_o our_o member_n war_v against_o the_o law_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o bring_v we_o into_o captivity_n to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v in_o our_o member_n and_o when_o the_o spirit_n be_v willing_a the_o flesh_n be_v weak_a so_o that_o the_o best_a man_n be_v force_v to_o keep_v it_o under_o and_o use_v it_o hardly_o lest_o it_o shall_v betray_v they_o into_o folly_n and_o misery_n we_o be_v now_o in_o a_o state_n of_o warfare_n and_o must_v always_o be_v upon_o our_o guard_n and_o watch_v continual_o arm_v and_o defend_v ourselves_o against_o the_o assault_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o all_o its_o violent_a and_o impetuous_a motion_n how_o do_v it_o hinder_v we_o in_o all_o our_o religious_a devotion_n how_o soon_o do_v it_o jade_v our_o mind_n when_o employ_v in_o any_o divine_a or_o spiritual_a meditation_n or_o how_o easy_o by_o its_o bewitch_a and_o enchant_a pleasure_n do_v it_o divert_v they_o from_o such_o noble_a exercise_n so_o that_o st._n paul_n break_v forth_o into_o this_o sad_a and_o mournful_a complaint_n rom._n 7.24_o o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o the_o body_n of_o this_o death_n who_o shall_v death_n shall_v that_o shall_v give_v we_o a_o full_a and_o final_a deliverance_n when_o once_o we_o have_v obtain_v the_o resurrection_n unto_o life_n we_o shall_v not_o any_o more_o feel_v those_o lusting_n of_o the_o flesh_n against_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v here_o so_o troublesome_a and_o uneasy_a to_o we_o our_o flesh_n shall_v then_o cease_v to_o vex_v our_o soul_n with_o its_o evil_a inclination_n immoderate_a desire_n and_o unreasonable_a passion_n but_o be_v its_o self_n spiritualise_v purify_a exalt_a and_o free_v from_o this_o earthly_a grossness_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o pollution_n shall_v become_v a_o most_o fit_a and_o proper_a instrument_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o all_o her_o divine_a and_o heavenly_a employment_n it_o shall_v not_o be_v weary_a of_o sing_v praise_n unto_o god_n almighty_a through_o infinite_a age_n it_o shall_v want_v no_o respite_n or_o refreshment_n but_o its_o meat_n and_o drink_n shall_v be_v to_o do_v the_o will_n of_o god_n in_o these_o thing_n chief_o consist_v the_o difference_n between_o those_o body_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v at_o the_o resurrection_n and_o this_o mortal_a flesh_n which_o we_o can_v but_o very_o imperfect_o either_o conceive_v or_o express_v but_o yet_o from_o what_o have_v be_v discourse_v on_o this_o subject_n it_o do_v sufficient_o appear_v that_o a_o glorify_a body_n be_v infinite_o more_o excellent_a and_o desirable_a than_o that_o vile_a and_o contemptible_a flesh_n which_o we_o now_o carry_v about_o with_o we_o the_o only_a thing_n remain_v be_v iii_o and_o last_o to_o draw_v some_o practical_a inference_n from_o all_o i_o have_v say_v on_o this_o subject_n i_o shall_v but_o just_a mention_n these_o five_o and_o leave_v the_o improvement_n of_o they_o to_o your_o own_o private_a meditation_n 1._o from_o what_o i_o have_v say_v we_o may_v learn_v the_o best_a way_n of_o fit_v and_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o live_v in_o those_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a body_n which_o shall_v be_v bestow_v upon_o we_o at_o the_o resurrection_n which_o be_v by_o cleanse_v and_o purify_n our_o soul_n still_o more_o and_o more_o from_o all_o fleshly_a filthiness_n and_o wean_a ourselves_o by_o degree_n from_o this_o earthly_a body_n and_o all_o sensual_a pleasure_n and_o delight_n we_o shall_v begin_v in_o this_o life_n to_o loosen_v and_o untie_v the_o knot_n between_o our_o soul_n and_o this_o mortal_a flesh_n to_o refine_v our_o affection_n and_o raise_v they_o from_o thing_n below_o to_o thing_n above_o to_o take_v off_o our_o heart_n and_o leisurely_o to_o disengage_v they_o from_o thing_n present_a and_o sensible_a and_o to_o use_v and_o accustom_v ourselves_o to_o think_v of_o and_o converse_v with_o thing_n spiritual_a and_o invisible_a that_o so_o our_o soul_n when_o they_o be_v separate_v from_o this_o earthly_a body_n may_v be_v prepare_v and_o dispose_v to_o actuate_v and_o inform_v a_o pure_a and_o spiritual_a one_o as_o have_v before_o hand_n taste_v and_o relish_v spiritual_a delight_n and_o pleasure_n and_o be_v in_o some_o degree_n acquaint_v with_o those_o object_n which_o shall_v then_o be_v present_v to_o we_o a_o soul_n whole_o immerse_v and_o bury_v in_o this_o earthly_a body_n be_v not_o at_o all_o fit_a and_o qualify_v
