humble_a abasement_n of_o himself_o most_o earnest_o to_o call_v and_o cry_v and_o beg_v for_o mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n and_o for_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n to_o change_v his_o nature_n from_o that_o loathsome_a disposition_n which_o trouble_v he_o now_o it_o may_v be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o hope_n have_v his_o heart_n so_o much_o soften_v that_o tear_n before_o stop_v up_o by_o that_o in_o some_o sense_n also_o to_o join_v with_o he_o yea_o more_o by_o frequent_a persuade_v urge_v teach_v of_o some_o godly_a man_n he_o may_v be_v draw_v to_o pray_v for_o himself_o but_o yet_o still_o the_o spirit_n of_o prayer_n be_v absent_a in_o that_o he_o do_v not_o find_v himself_o by_o a_o inward_a move_n of_o his_o own_o heart_n incline_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o his_o grief_n and_o fear_n to_o betake_v himself_o to_o god_n for_o help_v by_o call_v upon_o his_o name_n and_o which_o be_v a_o main_a observation_n in_o this_o matter_n if_o he_o pray_v he_o pray_v almost_o altogether_o for_o pardon_n and_o for_o favour_n little_a for_o grace_n and_o holiness_n whereas_o the_o christian_a man_n by_o a_o secret_a draw_v of_o his_o own_o inward_a soul_n wrought_v by_o this_o regenerate_a spirit_n come_v unto_o the_o lord_n with_o his_o request_n beg_v grace_n and_o holiness_n with_o no_o less_o earnestness_n than_o remission_n and_o salvation_n yea_o and_o have_v once_o begin_v this_o course_n he_o find_v so_o much_o refresh_v thereby_o that_o he_o can_v but_o continue_v to_o do_v it_o even_o sometime_o with_o much_o struggle_v against_o of_o his_o own_o hart_n through_o fear_n and_o doubt_n thereof_o so_o it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o be_v persuade_v to_o pray_v by_o man_n and_o to_o do_v it_o for_o ease_v sake_n another_o thing_n to_o be_v incline_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o private_a and_o secret_a work_n of_o the_o spirit_n one_o thing_n to_o beg_v for_o pardon_n not_o much_o mind_v amendment_n another_o thing_n to_o cry_v for_o the_o help_n

now_o the_o lord_n can_v be_v so_o weak_a as_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n that_o shall_v give_v he_o just_a cause_n to_o speak_v as_o of_o god_n we_o must_v needs_o speak_v after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n of_o be_v ashamed_a thereof_o wherefore_o that_o he_o may_v with_o glory_n and_o honour_n and_o praise_n and_o the_o content_a of_o his_o own_o most_o holy_a nature_n take_v thither_o so_o many_o of_o the_o corrupt_a son_n of_o adam_n as_o he_o please_v to_o make_v vessel_n of_o honour_n it_o be_v his_o will_n and_o care_n thus_o to_o change_v their_o nature_n and_o to_o renew_v they_o 5.23_o that_o they_o may_v be_v sanctify_v throughout_o and_o that_o their_o whole_a soul_n and_o body_n may_v be_v keep_v blameless_a and_o by_o this_o note_n it_o be_v difference_v from_o all_o all_o abomination_n and_o wickedness_n there_o be_v often_o i_o confess_v a_o work_n and_o a_o very_a terrible_a work_n of_o the_o law_n &_o the_o natural_a conscience_n together_o procure_v most_o extreme_a and_o hideously-bit_a pang_n and_o hellish_a agony_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n where_o the_o spirit_n of_o regeneration_n neither_o be_v nor_o ever_o shall_v be_v this_o be_v alone_o a_o fruit_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n not_o of_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o oftentimes_o again_o the_o spirit_n of_o sanctification_n come_v into_o the_o soul_n together_o with_o this_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n make_v a_o violent_a entry_n and_o by_o main_a force_n break_v open_o the_o heart_n former_o lock_v and_o bar_v against_o it_o and_o so_o begin_v this_o save_a work_n of_o holiness_n but_o terror_n of_o conscience_n which_o may_v be_v in_o all_o unregenerate_a man_n because_o they_o be_v already_o in_o all_o the_o damn_a into_o who_o no_o part_n nor_o piece_n of_o regeneration_n can_v enter_v be_v far_o different_a from_o this_o first_o degree_n of_o the_o work_n of_o a_o new_a birth_n the_o sanctify_a spirit_n lay_v the_o filthiness_n not_o alone_o the_o danger_n of_o sin_n before_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o mind_n it_o cause_v a_o man_n not_o alone_o to_o be_v in_o extreme_a anguish_n because_o he_o fear_v he_o must_v be_v damn_v but_o even_o to_o loathe_v and_o abhor_v himself_o and_o to_o be_v very_o
the_o light_n that_o begin_v to_o appear_v and_o to_o hold_v down_o the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n strive_v not_o to_o know_v sin_n because_o he_o will_v not_o leave_v it_o and_o out_o of_o a_o purpose_n to_o practice_v it_o for_o the_o profit_n or_o pleasure_n of_o it_o still_o labour_v to_o have_v somewhat_o to_o say_v in_o its_o defence_n and_o to_o elude_v and_o shift_v off_o whatsoever_o may_v be_v say_v against_o it_o but_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o know_v desirous_a and_o ready_a to_o yield_v and_o when_o the_o light_n begin_v to_o shine_v within_o he_o quick_o open_v
