salvation_n than_o for_o pagan_n and_o infidel_n but_o as_o for_o those_o who_o deny_v any_o fundamental_a article_n they_o be_v get_v above_o this_o state_n of_o a_o general_a and_o implicit_a faith_n in_o christ_n and_o err_v not_o for_o want_v of_o instruction_n but_o from_o a_o certain_a wantonness_n and_o pride_n of_o understanding_n they_o inquire_v into_o the_o particular_a doctrine_n of_o faith_n and_o understand_v what_o have_v be_v and_o be_v the_o general_a faith_n of_o christian_n in_o such_o matter_n for_o otherwise_o they_o will_v have_v no_o occasion_n to_o deny_v such_o catholic_n doctrine_n it_o appear_v they_o have_v a_o great_a conceit_n and_o confidence_n of_o their_o own_o knowledge_n that_o they_o dare_v oppose_v their_o private_a opinion_n and_o reason_n against_o the_o declare_a sense_n of_o the_o universal_a church_n which_o be_v such_o unpardonable_a immodesty_n as_o admit_v of_o no_o excuse_n if_o they_o lose_v themselves_o in_o the_o maze_n and_o labyrinth_n of_o their_o own_o make_n and_o mistake_v their_o way_n to_o heaven_n and_o though_o such_o person_n may_v be_v otherwise_o very_o pious_a and_o useful_a man_n yet_o i_o do_v not_o see_v why_o we_o shall_v deny_v the_o necessity_n of_o believe_v the_o fundamental_o of_o christian_a faith_n any_o more_o for_o their_o sake_n than_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o devout_a and_o virtuous_a jew_n by_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n as_o by_o the_o propitiatory_a sacrifice_n of_o the_o mass_n which_o be_v offer_v for_o the_o quick_a and_o for_o the_o dead_a for_o if_o christ_n make_v a_o perfect_a satisfaction_n for_o sin_n by_o his_o death_n upon_o the_o cross_n what_o need_v of_o repeat_v this_o sacrifice_n every_o day_n which_o represent_v the_o sacrifice_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v as_o invent_v so_o many_o other_o way_n of_o satisfaction_n and_o whoever_o consider_v what_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n teach_v about_o the_o intercession_n of_o saint_n and_o angel_n and_o the_o virgin_n mary_n can_v hardly_o think_v that_o she_o do_v believe_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o mediator_n between_o god_n and_o man_n the_o man_n christ_n jesus_n but_o i_o need_v not_o enumerate_v many_o particular_n the_o truth_n of_o this_o be_v too_o evident_a and_o notorious_a the_o great_a question_n then_o be_v this_o whether_o such_o a_o church_n may_v be_v say_v to_o be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n for_o this_o sound_n like_o a_o contradiction_n that_o a_o church_n which_o believe_v all_o the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o that_o christian_a faith_n shall_v yet_o be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n and_o indeed_o if_o by_o fundamental_a error_n we_o mean_v such_o error_n as_o deny_v any_o fundamental_a article_n so_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o a_o church_n which_o own_v and_o profess_v all_o fundamental_o can_v be_v guilty_a of_o fundamental_a error_n but_o if_o by_o fundamental_a error_n we_o mean_v such_o error_n as_o contradict_v the_o fundamental_o the_o contradiction_n be_v not_o in_o express_a term_n but_o consequential_a for_o all_o man_n or_o church_n do_v not_o see_v or_o will_v not_o own_o the_o immediate_a and_o necessary_a consequence_n of_o their_o own_o doctrine_n as_o may_v easy_o be_v observe_v among_o a_o great_a many_o other_o man_n beside_o those_o of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n and_o the_o use_n of_o this_o observation_n be_v very_o considerable_a upon_o many_o account_n but_o especial_o in_o our_o present_a dispute_n about_o catholic_n communion_n as_o will_v appear_v by_o consider_v 3._o how_o far_o and_o in_o what_o case_n we_o may_v communicate_v with_o such_o a_o church_n as_o believe_v all_o the_o fundamental_o of_o christian_a faith_n and_o yet_o teach_v such_o doctrine_n as_o in_o their_o immediate_a and_o necessary_a consequence_n overthrow_v foundation_n this_o be_v a_o very_a material_a difference_n between_o a_o church_n which_o deny_v any_o fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o church_n which_o believe_v all_o fundamental_o but_o superadd_v some_o corrupt_a doctrine_n which_o in_o their_o consequence_n destroy_v foundation_n that_o the_o first_o be_v never_o capable_a of_o catholic_n communion_n because_o she_o deny_v catholic_n doctrine_n which_o be_v the_o necessary_a condition_n of_o catholic_n communion_n but_o the_o second_o in_o some_o case_n may_v be_v because_o she_o retain_v all_o save_a knowledge_n i._n e._n all_o which_o be_v of_o absolute_a necessity_n to_o salvation_n though_o intermix_v with_o dangerous_a error_n now_o to_o state_n this_o matter_n how_o far_o we_o may_v communicate_v with_o such_o a_o church_n as_o profess_v all_o the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o faith_n but_o yet_o superadd_v other_o very_a corrupt_a and_o dangerous_a doctrine_n we_o may_v consider_v these_o two_o thing_n 1._o i_o think_v i_o need_v not_o tell_v any_o man_n that_o we_o must_v not_o purchase_v the_o communion_n of_o such_o a_o church_n by_o profess_v our_o assent_n to_o any_o corrupt_a doctrine_n though_o it_o be_v not_o a_o fundamental_a error_n no_o one_o church_n ought_v thus_o to_o impose_v upon_o another_o nor_o do_v any_o church_n evangelical_n notion_n of_o it_o the_o gift_n of_o god_n or_o the_o purchase_n of_o christ_n and_o we_o may_v consider_v far_o that_o as_o man_n be_v now_o design_v for_o a_o supernatural_a state_n qualify_v he_o for_o this_o supernatural_a happiness_n upon_o this_o account_n our_o saviour_n so_o earnest_o press_v the_o necessity_n of_o the_o new_a birth_n that_o we_o must_v be_v bear_v of_o assurance_n be_v of_o a_o different_a nature_n from_o the_o virtue_n of_o a_o sacrifice_n and_o affect_v our_o mind_n in_o a_o different_a manner_n and_o excite_v different_a passion_n and_o very_o different_a act_n of_o devotion_n and_o make_v our_o worship_n differ_v as_o much_o as_o a_o mediator_n by_o sacrifice_n do_v from_o a_o mediator_n by_o interest_n and_o power_n as_o for_o the_o other_o part_n of_o religion_n which_o concern_v our_o conversation_n with_o man_n or_o the_o government_n of_o our_o own_o appetite_n and_o passion_n there_o seem_v to_o be_v some_o new_a instance_n
