empty_a of_o any_o good_a thing_n in_o we_o as_o that_o we_o must_v cast_v ourselves_o down_o at_o his_o foot_n and_o acknowledge_v that_o we_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o miserable_a and_o wretched_a sinner_n and_o so_o without_o all_o hope_n of_o salvation_n as_o of_o ourselves_o thus_o we_o see_v how_o we_o come_v unto_o his_o mercy_n which_o be_v by_o the_o feel_n &_o apprehend_v of_o our_o misery_n and_o these_o two_o thing_n can_v be_v separate_v for_o why_o be_v it_o that_o god_n take_v pity_n upon_o we_o and_o help_v we_o forsooth_o it_o be_v because_o he_o behold_v our_o misery_n and_o that_o be_v it_o which_o stir_v and_o move_v he_o to_o mercy_n and_o see_v also_o why_o s._n paul_n treat_v of_o our_o salvation_n say_v 2.8.10_o ephe._n 2.8.10_o you_o be_v not_o save_v as_o touch_v with_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n for_o if_o we_o be_v stuff_v &_o full_a we_o will_v continue_v so_o we_o will_v never_o seek_v after_o crumb_n nor_o crust_n as_o we_o say_v but_o it_o be_v hunger_n that_o drive_v we_o to_o hunt_v after_o victual_n for_o when_o we_o be_v sick_a we_o seek_v for_o remedy_n but_o if_o a_o man_n be_v so_o senseless_a as_o that_o he_o feel_v no_o kind_n of_o grief_n he_o will_v die_v a_o hundred_o time_n before_o he_o will_v call_v for_o help_v or_o yet_o once_o desire_v it_o wherefore_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v we_o must_v be_v so_o touch_v with_o our_o misery_n as_o if_o we_o be_v dead_a in_o deed_n &_o as_o if_o we_o feel_v that_o death_n whereof_o the_o scripture_n speak_v that_o we_o may_v attain_v to_o that_o life_n which_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n offer_v unto_o we_o by_o his_o gospel_n and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o the_o scripture_n so_o often_o reprove_v and_o as_o it_o be_v condemn_v we_o for_o our_o sin_n for_o god_n take_v no_o pleasure_n in_o deal_v with_o we_o after_o this_o manner_n but_o because_o he_o know_v the_o necessity_n thereof_o so_o then_o look_v how_o many_o threaten_n sentence_n of_o condemnation_n of_o reproof_n and_o such_o like_a be_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n they_o be_v even_o so_o many_o mallette_n to_o knock_v we_o on_o the_o head_n to_o bring_v we_o unto_o that_o so_o by_o little_a and_o little_o be_v quite_o and_o clean_o exclude_v from_o it_o now_o god_n have_v set_v before_o we_o our_o condemation_n namely_o in_o the_o law_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n all_o the_o scripture_n be_v full_a of_o they_o and_o when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v profitable_a among_o other_o thing_n it_o lay_v out_o the_o reproof_n and_o beside_o we_o know_v what_o the_o and_o how_o shall_v he_o do_v that_o for_o while_o he_o be_v yet_o imperfect_a and_o weak_a the_o virtue_n which_o god_n have_v bestow_v upon_o he_o shall_v be_v mingle_v with_o many_o vice_n yea_o &_o these_o virtue_n also_o shall_v be_v corrupt_v because_o i_o say_v he_o shall_v not_o be_v full_o cleanse_v of_o the_o spot_n of_o the_o flesh_n when_o a_o man_n shall_v find_v himself_o thus_o as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v half_a sea_n over_o &_o yet_o be_v far_o from_o the_o end_n and_o mark_v whether_o he_o will_v go_v how_o can_v he_o otherwise_o do_v but_o doubt_v let_v we_o therefore_o now_o conclude_v that_o it_o be_v nothing_o to_o confess_v &_o say_v that_o our_o salvation_n proceed_v from_o the_o mere_a grace_n &_o favour_n of_o god_n because_o he_o govern_v we_o with_o his_o holy_a spirit_n but_o that_o we_o must_v fly_v unto_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o so_o they_o that_o play_v the_o wrangle_n so_o phister_n herein_o say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o our_o work_n because_o the_o good_a work_n be_v not_o we_o but_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n forget_v that_o point_n which_o we_o erst_o touch_v that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o our_o faith_n must_v be_v certain_a &_o that_o it_o can_v be_v certain_a except_o jesus_n christ_n be_v our_o advocate_n &_o his_o death_n a_o satisfaction_n for_o our_o sin_n so_o as_o we_o can_v do_v it_o without_o we_o confess_v the_o debt_n as_o by_o the_o example_n of_o the_o publicam_fw-la which_o we_o have_v allege_v may_v be_v see_v and_o we_o see_v also_o that_o this_o righteousness_n must_v not_o be_v for_o a_o day_n only_o but_o must_v continue_v all_o the_o day_n of_o our_o life_n for_o although_o we_o have_v profit_v by_o serve_v of_o god_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o it_o have_v be_v in_o imperfection_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v plain_a faith_n that_o must_v justify_v us._n and_o here_o must_v be_v put_v to_o the_o wall_n and_o overthrow_v that_o foolish_a and_o perverse_a opinion_n of_o the_o papist_n who_o think_v themselves_o to_o be_v partly_o justify_v by_o their_o work_v and_o partly_o by_o the_o forgiveness_n which_o they_o obtain_v by_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n for_o god_n must_v full_o and_o whole_o be_v merciful_a unto_o we_o as_o have_v be_v show_v and_o why_o so_o for_o part_v of_o our_o work_n merit_v nothing_o and_o beside_o there_o be_v corruption_n even_o in_o the_o very_o best_a work_n we_o do_v if_o we_o shall_v speak_v of_o judge_v of_o it_o according_a to_o the_o worthiness_n thereof_o and_o therefore_o we_o see_v that_o we_o be_v full_o and_o whole_o exclude_v wherefore_o we_o must_v grow_v to_o this_o point_n that_o the_o most_o righteous_a although_o they_o seem_v as_o righteous_a as_o that_o angel_n yet_o must_v they_o be_v accept_v of_o god_n free_o but_o here_o may_v arise_v a_o objection_n in_o this_o sort_n why_o fir_n there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o those_o who_o god_n have_v already_o call_v and_o when_o he_o leave_v he_o unto_o the_o corruption_n of_o his_o own_o nature_n for_o we_o shall_v see_v some_o man_n to_o have_v live_v a_o long_a time_n like_o a_o stray_a sheep_n &_o castaway_n and_o at_o last_o god_n enlighten_v he_o by_o his_o gospel_n and_o so_o touch_v and_o reform_v he_o as_o that_o
a_o man_n shall_v see_v he_o as_o the_o scripture_n speak_v to_o become_v a_o new_a creature_n and_o without_o doubt_n we_o can_v never_o be_v say_v to_o be_v right_a christian_n without_o we_o be_v after_o that_o manner_n renew_v and_o be_v make_v the_o workmanship_n of_o god_n create_v in_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n to_o do_v the_o work_n which_o god_n have_v prepare_v all_o this_o i_o say_v must_v be_v in_o it_o but_o herein_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v some_o absurdity_n god_n justify_v the_o thief_n that_o be_v hang_v because_o he_o acknowledge_v his_o salvation_n to_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o when_o he_o be_v justify_v have_v he_o none_o other_o quality_n in_o he_o then_o he_o have_v before_o yes_o very_o why_o then_o say_v we_o that_o free_a righteousness_n have_v her_o course_n all_o our_o life_n long_o in_o deed_n a_o faithful_a man_n will_v at_o the_o least_o be_v well_o affect_v to_o hold_v himself_o within_o the_o compass_n of_o god_n obedience_n he_o will_v be_v displease_v with_o his_o sin_n yea_o groan_n and_o grieve_v for_o they_o and_o his_o chief_a deâ—â—re_n will_v be_v to_o frame_v his_o life_n according_a to_o the_o law_n now_o when_o a_o faithful_a man_n be_v come_v to_o this_o we_o must_v not_o say_v that_o he_o be_v justify_v as_o he_o be_v at_o the_o first_o because_o he_o be_v then_o a_o dissolute_a man_n and_o altogether_o estrange_v from_o god_n to_o this_o we_o answer_v when_o god_n at_o the_o first_o justifi_v we_o that_o be_v to_o say_v when_o he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o we_o and_o pluck_v we_o out_o from_o that_o condemnation_n wherein_o we_o be_v he_o use_v then_o a_o general_a pardon_n and_o then_o when_o he_o justifi_v we_o afterward_o he_o than_o acknowkledge_v the_o benefit_n which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o we_o and_o avow_v &_o allow_v they_o for_o he_o can_v deny_v himself_o &_o when_o he_o govern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n although_o sin_n dwell_v in_o we_o yet_o reign_v it_o not_o in_o we_o as_o it_o be_v write_v although_o we_o do_v not_o the_o good_a which_o we_o will_v yet_o we_o strive_v to_o do_v it_o and_o therefore_o god_n allow_v and_o like_v of_o that_o because_o it_o come_v from_o he_o but_o here_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o he_o justifi_v we_o both_o in_o our_o person_n and_o also_o in_o our_o work_n by_o faith_n only_o for_o when_o he_o receive_v we_o at_o the_o first_o he_o can_v justify_v any_o work_n that_o be_v in_o us._n and_o why_o so_o because_o they_o be_v all_o wicked_a for_o as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v what_o fruit_n can_v a_o rot_a tree_n bring_v forth_o and_o therefore_o when_o god_n draw_v unto_o he_o miserable_a sinner_n that_o be_v banish_v and_o cast_v out_o of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o church_n he_o do_v not_o justify_v their_o work_n but_o behold_v their_o misery_n and_o have_v compassion_n of_o their_o perdition_n lo_o for_o that_o cause_n he_o justifi_v they_o now_o after_o that_o he_o have_v receive_v they_o he_o justifi_v they_o in_o their_o person_n that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o accept_v they_o as_o his_o child_n and_o after_o that_o he_o justifi_v their_o work_n and_o how_o do_v he_o that_o forsooth_o not_o sliding_n and_o such_o like_a thing_n which_o will_v mar_v all_o for_o if_o a_o man_n put_v the_o best_a wine_n in_o the_o world_n into_o a_o unsavery_a hogshead_n or_o into_o a_o fusty_a bottle_n the_o wine_n will_v be_v all_o mar_v even_o so_o fare_v it_o with_o all_o our_o work_n for_o so_o long_o as_o god_n guide_v and_o gonern_v we_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n they_o be_v good_a holy_a &_o commendable_a but_o mark_v what_o vessel_n we_o be_v sure_o very_o filthy_a &_o corrupt_a even_o so_o be_v our_o work_n &_o therefore_o god_n must_v purge_v &_o cleanse_v they_o and_o how_o be_v that_o very_o even_o by_o his_o grace_n in_o pardon_v the_o fault_n &_o imperfection_n which_o be_v in_o they_o wherefore_o even_o as_o there_o be_v diversity_n between_o a_o faithful_a man_n &_o who_o god_n call_v at_o the_o begin_n unto_o the_o gospel_n so_o also_o be_v there_o some_o diversity_n in_o justification_n but_o it_o alter_v not_o in_o this_o behalf_n that_o be_v that_o god_n always_o justifi_v his_o free_o that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o he_o accept_v they_o not_o for_o any_o virtue_n that_o be_v in_o themselves_o for_o there_o be_v none_o at_o all_o in_o they_o neither_o yet_o for_o those_o which_o he_o have_v bestow_v upon_o they_o for_o they_o be_v to_o be_v condemn_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o infirmity_n that_o be_v in_o they_o but_o because_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v that_o those_o who_o he_o have_v choose_v he_o have_v justify_v here_o than_o we_o see_v in_o sum_n what_o we_o be_v to_o retain_v as_o touch_v the_o motion_n of_o this_o question_n now_o we_o be_v to_o note_v that_o over_o and_o beside_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o papist_n imagine_v that_o we_o may_v partly_o obtain_v to_o be_v righteous_a and_o so_o consequent_o be_v pardon_v at_o god_n hand_n they_o be_v too_o too_o grossecond_o deceive_v bica_o deceive_v in_o their_o satisfaction_n and_o blind_a also_o i_o say_v in_o this_o they_o be_v to_o think_v themselves_o to_o have_v likelihood_n with_o they_o for_o say_v they_o although_o they_o do_v not_o perfect_o merit_v yet_o be_v it_o meet_v that_o god_n who_o be_v just_a shall_v accept_v of_o that_o good_a which_o they_o do_v yea_o but_o they_o be_v so_o far_o blind_v in_o their_o righteousness_n as_o that_o they_o understand_v not_o their_o sin_n as_o we_o have_v already_o say_v again_o they_o be_v second_o deceive_v because_o they_o think_v themselves_o able_a to_o acquit_v themselves_o by_o their_o satisfaction_n i_o will_v here_o forbear_v to_o speak_v what_o their_o satisfaction_n be_v because_o they_o be_v as_o we_o have_v deserve_v rather_o to_o be_v punish_v and_o this_o proceed_v herehence_a because_o they_o think_v they_o shall_v be_v justify_v by_o their_o work_n and_o therefore_o they_o say_v that_o this_o be_v but_o conjectural_a for_o they_o can_v choose_v but_o see_v that_o if_o we_o examine_v ourselves_o we_o shall_v come_v short_a in_o the_o end_n neither_o can_v we_o have_v that_o much_o at_o the_o least_o as_o the_o full_a worth_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o be_v to_o be_v assure_v of_o but_o a_o earnest_a penny_n be_v as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v nothing_o and_o to_o give_v a_o penny_n as_o we_o call_v it_o unto_o god_n for_o a_o bargain_n worth_a a_o hundred_o thousand_o crown_n and_o more_o be_v nothing_o for_o of_o what_o worth_n be_v that_o piece_n which_o we_o give_v forsooth_o of_o no_o value_n now_o can_v a_o potteâ—â—_n or_o galen_v of_o wine_n be_v worth_a a_o great_a possession_n or_o land_n that_o be_v able_a to_o enrich_v three_o or_o foureman_n and_o yet_o be_v as_o be_v may_v this_o earnest_a penny_n be_v destine_v unto_o such_o a_o use_n and_o therefore_o this_o land_n of_o chanaan_n be_v the_o inheritance_n of_o all_o the_o child_n of_o abraham_n and_o of_o as_o many_o as_o have_v descend_v of_o his_o line_n but_o yet_o so_o as_o that_o it_o be_v but_o a_o earnest_a penny_n for_o heaven_n insomuch_o that_o the_o very_a faithful_a at_o the_o very_a first_o which_o he_o have_v promise_v us._n and_o because_o we_o see_v our_o life_n to_o be_v so_o short_a and_o the_o time_n we_o have_v to_o live_v to_o be_v but_o as_o a_o shadow_n which_o fleet_v sudden_o away_o we_o think_v that_o god_n will_v never_o come_v time_n enough_o wherefore_o we_o must_v learn_v to_o correct_v this_o fault_n by_o these_o word_n that_o we_o hear_v here_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o abram_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n which_o change_v not_o and_o beside_o we_o hear_v what_o be_v say_v in_o other_o place_n 4.8_o the_o song_n of_o moses_n psal_n yet_o over_o remise_n and_o slack_v but_o go_v out_o of_o ourselves_o &_o come_v unto_o he_o in_o who_o be_v no_o inconstancy_n nor_o show_n of_o change_n for_o he_o be_v the_o lord_n and_o let_v we_o be_v the_o most_o precious_a of_o all_o other_o precious_a thing_n we_o have_v also_o declare_v that_o abraham_n be_v not_o tempt_v only_o in_o that_o god_n command_v he_o to_o kill_v his_o son_n but_o in_o that_o it_o seem_v that_o all_o the_o promise_n which_o god_n before_o have_v make_v unto_o he_o be_v all_o as_o a_o man_n will_v say_v quite_o and_o clean_o frustrate_v and_o void_a for_o they_o all_o depend_v upon_o that_o which_o we_o have_v already_o hear_v that_o the_o bless_a seed_n shall_v be_v raise_v in_o isaak_n and_o therefore_o it_o seem_v that_o god_n mean_v to_o frustrate_v his_o promise_n make_v to_o abraham_n now_o although_o it_o may_v seem_v in_o any_o natural_a man_n reason_n that_o god_n herein_o be_v contrary_a to_o himself_o &_o that_o that_o commandment_n of_o his_o be_v to_o adnihilate_v that_o which_o before_o he_o have_v hear_v from_o god_n own_o mouth_n yet_o he_o constant_o obey_v 〈◊〉_d majesty_n without_o further_a question_n now_o it_o may_v stand_v at_o the_o first_o sight_n that_o that_o which_o he_o do_v have_v no_o good_a find_v foundation_n of_o a_o true_a and_o lively_a faith_n because_o faith_n have_v respect_n to_o the_o promise_n and_o yet_o as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v abraham_n can_v look_v for_o nothing_o but_o by_o isaak_n his_o mean_n because_o it_o be_v say_v that_o in_o christ_n jesus_n all_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n be_v most_o sure_a 120_o 2_o cor._n 120_o and_o yea_o and_o amen_n for_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n must_v come_v of_o the_o stock_n of_o isaak_n and_o that_o be_v in_o very_a deed_n the_o seed_n which_o be_v promise_v he_o how_o then_o can_v abraham_n be_v content_v to_o have_v his_o son_n to_o die_v and_o yet_o to_o have_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n to_o stand_v in_o full_a strength_n power_n and_o virtue_n now_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o by_o faith_n abraham_n offer_v his_o son_n isaac_n 11.17_o hebr._n 11.17_o so_o that_o by_o this_o we_o be_v let_v to_o understand_v that_o abraham_n fall_n out_o as_o it_o will_v rest_v whole_o upon_o the_o word_n and_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o as_o for_o the_o contrariety_n which_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v between_o of_o thing_n not_o see_v agree_v with_o the_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n in_o his_o epistle_n to_o the_o roman_n say_v we_o hope_v not_o for_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o see_v 8.24_o rom._n 8.24_o but_o for_o the_o thing_n we_o see_v not_o yea_o even_o for_o thing_n that_o seem_v to_o be_v impossible_a sith_o than_o it_o be_v so_o that_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n do_v not_o set_v before_o our_o eye_n that_o which_o be_v contain_v in_o they_o we_o must_v as_o i_o have_v already_o say_v when_o we_o speak_v of_o faith_n look_v further_o than_o unto_o the_o world_n and_o how_o be_v that_o to_o wit_n we_o must_v not_o measure_v the_o infinite_a power_n of_o god_n with_o the_o mean_n which_o be_v set_v before_o we_o and_o as_o we_o comprehend_v they_o but_o when_o as_o we_o shall_v have_v these_o toy_n in_o our_o head_n as_o to_o think_v that_o this_o or_o that_o can_v never_o come_v to_o pass_v and_o that_o there_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o very_a contradiction_n in_o the_o case_n yet_o let_v we_o thus_o conclude_v without_o all_o doubt_n god_n will_v perform_v whatsoever_o he_o have_v speak_v but_o we_o will_v say_v how_o can_v it_o possible_o be_v oh_o let_v not_o we_o judge_v of_o it_o we_o must_v here_o bring_v under_o our_o own_o sense_n and_o wit_n and_o do_v god_n this_o honour_n to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v faithful_a but_o we_o know_v not_o what_o will_v be_v the_o issue_n thereof_o or_o else_o think_v that_o all_o be_v shut_v up_o and_o close_v here_o than_o we_o see_v what_o we_o be_v to_o learn_v out_o of_o these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n now_o if_o abraham_n have_v reason_v like_o natural_a man_n he_o may_v have_v say_v that_o god_n be_v not_o contrary_a unto_o himself_o for_o he_o tell_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v have_v seed_n by_o isaak_n and_o that_o from_o thence_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n shall_v come_v and_o i_o must_v not_o forget_v this_o and_o yet_o at_o this_o present_a he_o have_v command_v i_o to_o kill_v isaak_n here_o be_v no_o order_n in_o this_o for_o i_o will_v take_v he_o at_o his_o first_o word_n and_o that_o must_v stand_v thus_o we_o see_v that_o abraham_n may_v after_o this_o manner_n have_v excuse_v himself_o and_o yet_o have_v be_v a_o rebel_n unto_o god_n under_o the_o colour_n of_o obedience_n but_o what_o do_v he_o he_o consider_v with_o himself_o that_o god_n be_v almighty_a and_o
