adam_n but_o i_o shall_v go_v on_o a_o little_a further_o therefore_o in_o the_o next_o place_n the_o question_n will_v be_v how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o i_o walk_v according_a spirit_n use_v 2._o how_o to_o know_v whether_o we_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n to_o the_o flesh_n or_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n how_o shall_v i_o know_v whether_o i_o be_v one_o of_o those_o that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n i_o will_v only_o give_v you_o a_o few_o expression_n of_o it_o i_o will_v not_o say_v sign_n for_o it_o may_v be_v you_o can_v not_o all_o bear_v that_o word_n and_o these_o expression_n be_v most_o of_o they_o lay_v down_o in_o this_o chapter_n and_o hereabout_o whereby_o you_o may_v have_v a_o guess_n of_o it_o whether_o you_o be_v man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n or_o no._n first_o you_o shall_v find_v in_o rom._n 6._o that_o those_o that_o sin_n 1._o such_o be_v dead_a to_o sin_n be_v under_o grace_n or_o that_o walk_n according_a to_o the_o spirit_n sin_n be_v destroy_v in_o they_o they_o be_v dead_a to_o sin_n and_o alive_a to_o righteousness_n and_o there_o be_v many_o expression_n of_o the_o same_o thing_n in_o diverse_a phrase_n as_o in_o verse_n 6._o know_v this_o that_o our_o old_a man_n be_v crucify_v that_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n may_v be_v destroy_v that_o henceforth_o we_o shall_v not_o serve_v sin_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n thou_o can_v say_v the_o body_n of_o sin_n be_v destroy_v and_o thou_o do_v not_o serve_v sin_n than_o it_o be_v say_v in_o verse_n 11._o that_o those_o that_o be_v under_o grace_n they_o be_v dead_a indeed_o to_o sin_n and_o alive_a to_o god_n that_o be_v another_o expression_n and_o in_o verse_n 12._o sin_n shall_v not_o reign_v in_o their_o mortal_a body_n that_o they_o shall_v obey_v it_o in_o the_o lust_n thereof_o and_o in_o verse_n 13._o yield_v not_o your_o member_n as_o instrument_n of_o unrighteousness_n and_o particular_o how_o much_o be_v hold_v forth_o in_o each_o of_o these_o expression_n but_o to_o help_v thou_o to_o see_v a_o little_a the_o state_n of_o thy_o soul_n i_o will_v gather_v these_o three_o thing_n from_o all_o these_o expression_n there_o be_v i_o say_v mean_v by_o they_o these_o three_o thing_n the_o first_o thing_n be_v this_o that_o those_o that_o walk_v according_a guilt_n 1._o sin_n be_v dead_a in_o respect_n of_o guilt_n to_o grace_n and_o according_a to_o the_o spirit_n sin_n be_v dead_a in_o they_o that_o be_v they_o be_v dead_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n they_o do_v see_v and_o understand_v in_o some_o measure_n that_o jesus_n christ_n by_o his_o death_n have_v abolish_v and_o destroy_v and_o do_v away_o all_o their_o sin_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o guilt_n of_o they_o they_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n in_o that_o respect_n they_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o full_a righteousness_n in_o jesus_n christ_n that_o have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n and_o so_o their_o sin_n be_v do_v away_o that_o they_o shall_v never_o condemn_v they_o this_o be_v one_o thing_n now_o a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n he_o see_v not_o that_o neither_o can_v see_v it_o for_o these_o thing_n be_v spiritual_a now_o take_v a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o most_o refine_a principle_n of_o old_a adam_n and_o he_o always_o carry_v guilt_n upon_o his_o conscience_n he_o will_v always_o be_v as_o a_o man_n that_o be_v roll_v of_o a_o snowball_n the_o more_o he_o go_v on_o in_o his_o service_n the_o more_o guilt_n and_o horror_n but_o a_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n let_v he_o be_v weak_a or_o strong_a he_o see_v this_o in_o some_o measure_n and_o probable_o for_o the_o most_o part_n that_o his_o sin_n be_v do_v away_o and_o that_o there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n to_o he_o because_o he_o be_v in_o christ_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o therefore_o as_o it_o be_v rom._n 5._o 7._o he_o that_o be_v dead_a be_v free_v from_o sin_n or_o justify_v from_o sin_n that_o be_v one_o thing_n second_o in_o all_o these_o phrase_n this_o be_v hold_v forth_o power_n 2._o sin_n be_v dead_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o power_n to_o we_o as_o i_o understand_v that_o a_o beleiver_n be_v plant_v into_o christ_n for_o so_o he_o look_v upon_o himself_o and_o ingraft_v and_o unite_v to_o christ_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n he_o account_v it_o as_o dead_a that_o be_v when_o he_o see_v any_o sin_n stir_v in_o he_o he_o consider_v i_o be_o one_o with_o christ_n i_o be_o plant_v with_o he_o in_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n and_o this_o sin_n be_v condemn_v when_o christ_n be_v condemn_v and_o as_o sure_a as_o christ_n do_v die_v this_o sin_n must_v die_v therefore_o he_o look_v upon_o all_o his_o sin_n and_o lust_n as_o thing_n that_o be_v gasp_v for_o life_n as_o thing_n that_o be_v ready_a to_o die_v and_o that_o will_v sure_o die_v as_o sure_o as_o christ_n do_v die_v another_o man_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o law_n when_o he_o see_v sin_n in_o he_o and_o find_v lust_n to_o rise_v in_o his_o soul_n he_o say_v as_o david_n in_o another_o case_n sure_o i_o shall_v one_o day_n fall_v by_o the_o hand_n of_o saul_n sure_o i_o shall_v prove_v a_o hypocrite_n one_o time_n or_o other_o this_o sin_n will_v break_v my_o neck_n and_o so_o he_o be_v discourage_v and_o his_o heart_n be_v harden_v but_o a_o man_n that_o be_v under_o grace_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o gospel_n let_v sin_n be_v never_o so_o strong_a and_o prevalent_a he_o look_v on_o it_o as_o a_o condemn_a thing_n he_o can_v triumph_v over_o it_o when_o it_o be_v strong_a and_o can_v say_v i_o know_v thou_o must_v be_v lay_v in_o the_o grave_a with_o jesus_n christ_n he_o reckon_v himself_o dead_a to_o sin_n that_o be_v another_o thing_n three_o and_o last_o from_o all_o these_o expression_n other_o 3._o they_o be_v more_o holy_a than_o other_o here_o in_o rom._n 6._o we_o gather_v this_o that_o sure_o all_o those_o that_o be_v under_o grace_n or_o that_o walk_n according_a to_o the_o spirit_n in_o some_o eminent_a way_n be_v more_o holy_a and_o more_o free_v from_o sin_n then_o once_o they_o be_v and_o then_o all_o those_o be_v that_o walk_n under_o the_o law_n in_o some_o eminent_a way_n i_o say_v they_o be_v more_o holy_a though_o i_o do_v not_o say_v there_o be_v no_o sin_n in_o they_o for_o than_o we_o shall_v lie_v as_o john_n say_v but_o certain_o there_o be_v a_o power_n in_o their_o soul_n against_o sin_n that_o be_v exceed_o transcendent_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o best_a moral_a man_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o exact_a man_n in_o the_o world_n that_o walk_v according_a to_o the_o law_n what_o else_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o all_o this_o you_o be_v dead_a to_o sin_n and_o sin_n shall_v not_o reign_v and_o have_v dominion_n over_o you_o and_o you_o shall_v not_o yield_v your_o member_n as_o instrument_n to_o sin_n shall_v we_o turn_v all_o this_o into_o speculation_n no_o certain_o there_o be_v some_o eminent_a real_a holiness_n and_o power_n against_o sin_n that_o they_o have_v not_o before_o therefore_o say_v he_o what_o pleasure_n have_v you_o in_o those_o thing_n whereof_o you_o be_v now_o ashamed_a those_o sin_n that_o you_o commit_v before_o you_o fasting_n he_o have_v and_o let_v he_o look_v upon_o himself_o what_o he_o be_v now_o since_o he_o have_v know_v a_o little_a of_o christ_n and_o have_v know_v that_o he_o be_v a_o justify_v person_n and_o that_o he_o be_v dead_a to_o the_o law_n and_o the_o like_a i_o appeal_v
pass_v it_o by_o therefore_o consider_v what_o treasure_n there_o be_v in_o the_o gospel_n there_o be_v unsearchable_a treasure_n in_o the_o gospel_n but_o of_o all_o this_o be_v the_o jewel_n of_o all_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o the_o face_n of_o jesus_n christ_n i_o shall_v leave_v other_o thing_n for_o the_o next_o opportunity_n sermon_n 2._o isaiah_n 6._o 5._o for_o my_o eye_n have_v see_v the_o king_n the_o lord_n of_o host_n you_o remember_v the_o lesson_n that_o god_n teach_v we_o from_o these_o word_n the_o last_o day_n that_o the_o saint_n have_v a_o peculiar_a privilege_n above_o all_o other_o that_o they_o can_v even_o in_o this_o world_n see_v god_n they_o can_v see_v god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n i_o do_v open_v this_o as_o far_o as_o i_o can_v through_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v come_v to_o the_o next_o point_n which_o be_v that_o a_o right_a save_a sight_n of_o god_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o way_n to_o true_a gospel_n humiliation_n we_o have_v make_v 3._o use_n of_o the_o former_a point_n first_o to_o show_v the_o privilege_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o they_o and_o they_o only_o can_v see_v god_n second_o that_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n shall_v humble_v the_o saint_n for_o their_o sin_n three_o it_o shall_v teach_v we_o to_o prize_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n whereby_o this_o glorious_a privilege_n be_v discover_v and_o wherein_o this_o excellent_a treasure_n be_v contain_v there_o be_v two_o thing_n that_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v this_o day_n as_o the_o lord_n shall_v help_v i_o in_o this_o great_a mystery_n to_o make_v out_o to_o you_o the_o one_o be_v see_v there_o be_v such_o a_o glorious_a privilege_n to_o be_v have_v and_o bless_a be_v the_o man_n that_o have_v it_o as_o i_o tell_v you_o bless_v be_v the_o pure_a in_o heart_n for_o they_o shall_v see_v god_n purity_n of_o heart_n be_v the_o qualification_n and_o see_v of_o god_n be_v the_o reward_n the_o high_a step_n of_o it_o and_o see_v there_o be_v such_o a_o curse_n to_o a_o man_n that_o see_v not_o god_n how_o shall_v we_o know_v whether_o ever_o we_o have_v this_o privilege_n whether_o god_n have_v vouchsafe_v to_o we_o this_o peculiar_a sight_n of_o he_o i_o have_v see_v the_o king_n the_o lord_n of_o host_n then_o second_o if_o i_o have_v it_o not_o what_o course_n i_o shall_v take_v to_o attain_v it_o i_o shall_v speak_v of_o these_o two_o thing_n only_o this_o day_n concern_v the_o former_a i_o need_v not_o give_v you_o know_v this_o peculiar_a fight_n of_o god_n know_v sign_n or_o mark_n to_o know_v whether_o a_o drunkard_n or_o a_o whoremonger_n or_o a_o blind_a carnal_a creature_n that_o know_v nothing_o of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n whether_o any_o of_o these_o see_v god_n but_o the_o business_n come_v to_o this_o see_v there_o be_v a_o gospel_n enlighten_v or_o illumination_n see_v there_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o sight_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n that_o a_o hypocrite_n have_v and_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o the_o glorious_a sight_n that_o the_o saint_n have_v the_o question_n will_v be_v how_o we_o shall_v know_v the_o one_o from_o the_o other_o and_o then_o there_o will_v be_v a_o light_n whereby_o a_o sinner_n a_o carnal_a man_n may_v know_v his_o estate_n that_o will_v flow_v from_o the_o other_o for_o if_o we_o discover_v the_o one_o it_o will_v be_v easy_a by_o that_o light_n to_o discover_v the_o other_o for_o your_o information_n in_o the_o former_a according_a as_o i_o understand_v by_o consider_v of_o the_o scripture_n and_o seek_v the_o lord_n and_o search_v my_o own_o heart_n i_o shall_v reduce_v all_o to_o these_o 3_o head_n you_o may_v know_v it_o 3_o way_n first_o by_o your_o apprehension_n of_o it_o second_o by_o the_o impression_n the_o first_o be_v this_o these_o apprehension_n of_o he_o they_o apprehension_n 1_o clear_a apprehension_n be_v clear_a apprehension_n of_o he_o the_o hypocrite_n apprehension_n they_o be_v dark_a saint_n apprehension_n along_o with_o your_o apprehension_n that_o do_v certify_v your_o soul_n and_o assure_v your_o soul_n that_o it_o be_v god_n that_o you_o see_v it_o be_v a_o sight_n of_o god_n for_o as_o in_o natural_a thing_n you_o know_v that_o by_o the_o same_o light_n whereby_o i_o see_v the_o sun_n by_o the_o same_o light_n i_o know_v that_o i_o see_v he_o so_o there_o be_v in_o the_o very_a manifestation_n of_o god_n to_o the_o soul_n it_o carry_v a_o witness_n in_o itself_o it_o be_v so_o clear_a that_o when_o i_o have_v it_o though_o i_o never_o have_v it_o before_o and_o i_o can_v demonstrative_o speak_v a_o word_n what_o it_o be_v yet_o i_o know_v as_o it_o be_v god_n sight_n so_o i_o know_v i_o see_v he_o a_o saint_n know_v so_o sure_o and_o certain_o as_o that_o there_o be_v not_o the_o least_o doubt_n to_o his_o soul_n of_o that_o sight_n as_o in_o 1_o cor._n 2._o which_o be_v worth_a observe_v you_o shall_v find_v that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a mystery_n that_o paul_n say_v that_o a_o saint_n see_v that_o a_o carnal_a natural_a man_n can_v perceive_v there_o be_v the_o deep_a thing_n of_o god_n and_o one_o of_o they_o he_o say_v be_v christ_n jesus_n but_o the_o depth_n be_v in_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o know_v of_o they_o they_o that_o be_v hypocrite_n know_v they_o for_o the_o matter_n they_o know_v christ_n from_o top_n to_o toe_n they_o see_v he_o dead_a and_o bury_v and_o put_v in_o the_o
that_o his_o son_n have_v satisfy_v the_o law_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v free_v now_o he_o do_v acknowledge_v it_o three_o way_n first_o you_o shall_v have_v it_o mat._n 17._o compare_v with_o
