life_n i_o quote_v likewise_o in_o corroboration_n of_o solomon_n forecited_n text_n and_o opinion_n a_o concurrent_a evidence_n out_o of_o the_o prophet_n isaiah_n 38.18_o where_o hezekiah_n pray_v to_o god_n say_v the_o grave_a can_v praise_v thou_o death_n can_v celebrate_v thou_o they_o that_o go_v down_o into_o the_o pit_n can_v hope_v for_o thy_o truth_n the_o live_n the_o live_n he_o shall_v praise_v thou_o as_o i_o do_v this_o day_n mr._n w._n have_v quote_v these_o text_n of_o solomon_n and_o isaiah_n and_o make_v out_o of_o each_o of_o they_o a_o objection_n against_o his_o number_n of_o my_o objection_n as_o to_o fortify_v and_o strengthen_v those_o which_o i_o make_v against_o he_o mr._n w._n have_v make_v the_o text_n now_o quote_v out_o of_o isaiah_n his_o ten_o objection_n against_o his_o opinion_n and_o thereunto_o answer_v that_o hezekiah_n be_v meaning_n in_o these_o word_n be_v that_o man_n after_o death_n can_v praise_v god_n as_o they_o do_v whilst_o they_o be_v in_o this_o world_n and_o in_o the_o congregation_n of_o man_n but_o that_o still_o they_o can_v and_o do_v praise_n god_n after_o death_n in_o heaven_n thereunto_o i_o reply_v he_o seem_v to_o make_v hezekiah_n mean_v what_o himself_o please_v but_o that_o king_n word_n seem_v plain_o to_o declare_v that_o man_n after_o death_n neither_o do_v nor_o can_v celebrate_v or_o praise_v the_o name_n of_o god_n without_o mention_n of_o such_o a_o meaning_n as_o he_o pretend_v or_o any_o need_n of_o such_o a_o meaning_n that_o i_o can_v perceive_v and_o therefore_o i_o read_v and_o take_v the_o plain_a sense_n of_o his_o word_n to_o be_v as_o he_o have_v deliver_v they_o in_o his_o eleven_o objection_n he_o quote_v the_o text_n of_o solomon_n the_o dead_a know_v not_o any_o thing_n and_o thereunto_o answer_v that_o solomon_n meaning_n in_o these_o word_n be_v that_o dead_a man_n do_v not_o know_v any_o thing_n of_o what_o be_v do_v under_o the_o sun_n after_o their_o death_n i_o before_o quote_v speak_v of_o death_n as_o of_o a_o rest_n from_o man_n labour_n and_o suffering_n and_o say_v there_o be_v no_o device_n nor_o knowledge_n in_o the_o grave_n whither_o thou_o go_v the_o live_a know_v that_o they_o shall_v die_v but_o the_o dead_a know_v not_o any_o thing_n not_o any_o the_o most_o common_a or_o knowable_a thing_n not_o a_o thing_n so_o well_o know_v as_o that_o man_n must_v die_v or_o that_o they_o must_v rise_v again_o these_o be_v thing_n the_o most_o common_o know_v to_o man_n when_o they_o be_v alive_a but_o when_o they_o be_v dead_a they_o know_v not_o any_o thing_n at_o all_o and_o too_o this_o king_n hezekiah_n add_v they_o can_v act_v any_o thing_n they_o can_v so_o much_o as_o praise_n and_o celebrate_v the_o name_n of_o god_n which_o mr._n w'_v party_n will_v have_v to_o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o their_o good_a soul_n depart_v our_o text_n tell_v we_o in_o absolute_a and_o plain_a term_n the_o dead_a can_v do_v so_o comprehend_v under_o the_o name_n of_o dead_a the_o person_n and_o all_o that_o belong_v to_o the_o composition_n thereof_o and_o from_o these_o premise_n i_o take_v leave_n to_o conclude_v that_o from_o these_o text_n be_v raise_v a_o strong_a objection_n against_o the_o soul_n separate_a subsistence_n a_o five_o objection_n against_o mr_n w_n tenet_n i_o raise_v from_o eccless_a 11.8_o if_o a_o man_n live_v many_o year_n and_o rejoice_v in_o they_o all_o yet_o let_v he_o remember_v the_o day_n of_o darkness_n for_o they_o shall_v be_v many_o and_o then_o he_o give_v liberty_n to_o the_o young_a man_n to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o youth_n and_o use_v his_o liberty_n but_o withal_o bid_v he_o know_v that_o for_o these_o thing_n god_n will_v bring_v he_o into_o judgement_n so_o chap._n 12.14_o after_o he_o have_v say_v the_o spirit_n return_v to_o god_n who_o give_v it_o he_o add_v fear_v god_n and_o keep_v his_o commandment_n for_o god_n shall_v bring_v every_o work_n into_o judgement_n with_o every_o secret_a thing_n whether_o it_o be_v good_a or_o whether_o it_o be_v evil_a here_o solomon_n exhort_v man_n to_o remember_v the_o day_n and_o time_n of_o their_o death_n immediate_o succeed_v the_o death_n of_o the_o person_n they_o be_v day_n of_o darkness_n as_o darkness_n itself_o cover_v and_o make_v dark_a with_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n and_o our_o text_n say_v those_o day_n shall_v be_v many_o and_o therefore_o he_o exhort_v man_n in_o their_o great_a jollity_n to_o remember_v they_o but_o our_o opposer_n contrary_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o this_o text_n endeavour_v to_o persuade_v we_o that_o there_o be_v no_o day_n of_o darkness_n at_o all_o in_o death_n for_o that_o when_o the_o breath_n of_o man_n go_v forth_o or_o cease_v in_o he_o his_o substantial_a intelligent_a and_o then_o separate_a soul_n or_o spirit_n either_o return_n to_o god_n or_o go_v before_o he_o to_o judgement_n or_o be_v carry_v by_o angel_n or_o be_v hurry_v by_o devil_n into_o very_o different_a place_n concern_v which_o i_o do_v not_o find_v they_o be_v well_o agree_v among_o themselves_o but_o howsoever_o that_o may_v fall_v out_o they_o be_v all_o very_a well_o agree_v that_o their_o separate_a intelligent_a spirit_n be_v at_o great_a liberty_n and_o be_v more_o active_a and_o know_v than_o it_o be_v during_o its_o confinement_n to_o the_o

make_v in_o the_o same_o manner_n that_o mr._n w._n have_v put_v his_o seven_o objection_n against_o his_o own_o doctrine_n where_o he_o say_v if_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n past_o their_o trial_n as_o soon_o as_o they_o be_v dead_a what_o need_v any_o other_o day_n of_o judgement_n will_v christ_n try_v man_n after_o sentence_n to_o this_o objection_n mr._n w._n say_v i_o have_v prove_v already_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n can_v be_v kill_v and_o so_o can_v die_v and_o that_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n at_o death_n do_v return_v to_o the_o lord_n and_o other_o thing_n relate_v to_o its_o partial_a judgement_n which_o it_o shall_v receive_v to_o this_o i_o reply_v his_o proof_n of_o the_o soul_n not_o die_v remain_v sub_fw-la judice_fw-la his_o text_n that_o the_o soul_n return_v to_o god_n prove_v not_o its_o go_n before_o he_o for_o judgement_n and_o for_o proof_n of_o his_o partial_a judgement_n he_o have_v produce_v no_o text_n of_o scripture_n at_o all_o nor_o do_v i_o think_v a_o text_n that_o so_o prove_v can_v be_v quote_v out_o of_o the_o bible_n mr._n w._n proceed_v ask_v who_o be_v thou_o that_o reason_v against_o god_n will_v thou_o teach_v god_n how_o he_o shall_v govern_v the_o world_n or_o what_o judgement_n he_o shall_v use_v upon_o man_n it_o be_v enough_o that_o god_n have_v intimate_v his_o will_n there_o shall_v be_v such_o judgement_n and_o we_o be_v humble_o to_o believe_v he_o have_v reason_n for_o his_o so_o do_v although_o our_o shallow_a brain_n can_v comprehend_v it_o to_o this_o i_o reply_v that_o i_o be_o ready_a to_o do_v as_o mr._n w._n direct_v viz._n that_o if_o god_n do_v declare_v to_o we_o his_o mind_n and_o intnet_n to_o have_v divers_a and_o different_a trial_n and_o judgement_n of_o man_n i_o be_o ready_a to_o submit_v to_o the_o belief_n thereof_o although_o i_o be_o not_o able_a to_o apprehend_v the_o congruity_n or_o reason_n thereof_o but_o mr._n w_n answer_n set_v out_o no_o proof_n at_o all_o of_o god_n design_n or_o meaning_n to_o pass_v such_o several_a trial_n and_o judgement_n upon_o man_n as_o he_o suppose_v nor_o do_v his_o whole_a book_n give_v we_o good_a proof_n thereof_o and_o himself_o do_v not_o require_v man_n to_o believe_v that_o god_n proceed_v in_o way_n not_o congruous_a to_o the_o reason_n of_o man_n except_o god_n do_v somewhere_o declare_v that_o he_o do_v or_o will_v do_v so_o whereas_o mr._n w._n have_v not_o otherways_o prove_v god_n will_v so_o to_o do_v then_o from_o his_o own_o exposition_n collection_n inference_n and_o conclusion_n which_o all_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o proper_a fruit_n of_o his_o own_o invention_n upon_o which_o the_o old_a rule_n must_v take_v hold_v posito_fw-la quolibet_fw-la sequitur_fw-la quidlibet_fw-la and_o so_o if_o we_o suffer_v he_o to_o lay_v the_o card_n he_o will_v always_o deal_v they_o to_o his_o own_o advantage_n but_o i_o have_v no_o inclination_n to_o bear_v with_o such_o deal_n and_o therefore_o do_v reject_v his_o answer_n to_o this_o objection_n as_o infirm_a and_o insufficient_a well_o but_o then_o say_v mr._n w._n if_o this_o answer_n will_v not_o satisfy_v you_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o the_o righteous_a knowledge_n or_o a_o reasonable_a inference_n from_o any_o text_n of_o scripture_n last_o he_o bid_v his_o opposer_n be_v silent_a lest_o god_n reprove_v they_o and_o have_v make_v this_o reply_n to_o his_o answer_n i_o be_o content_a to_o be_v silent_a and_o proceed_v no_o father_n thereupon_o but_o as_o to_o the_o incongruity_n charge_v by_o the_o objection_n upon_o mr._n w_n opinion_n i_o say_v thereupon_o and_o after_o they_o have_v long_o continue_v in_o this_o condition_n then_o to_o call_v they_o to_o a_o new_a trial_n and_o give_v another_o judgement_n upon_o they_o with_o a_o like_a award_n of_o execution_n on_o as_o before_o this_o seem_v a_o very_a unlikely_a proceed_v of_o god_n towards_o man_n and_o yet_o if_o mr._n w._n or_o any_o of_o his_o partaker_n have_v prove_v or_o can_v prove_v from_o any_o plain_a or_o clear_a text_n or_o text_n of_o scripture_n that_o god_n will_v use_v this_o course_n of_o proceed_v among_o man_n i_o be_o ready_a to_o submit_v my_o own_o reason_n and_o opinion_n thereunto_o but_o not_o to_o the_o many_o word_n or_o conjecture_n which_o mr._n w._n far_o offer_n in_o his_o answer_n to_o this_o objection_n we_o read_v mat._n 25._o our_o without_o the_o requisite_a refreshment_n of_o respiration_n which_o perpetual_o must_v fan_v the_o flame_n of_o life_n for_o maintain_v the_o same_o in_o a_o state_n of_o purity_n vigour_n and_o activity_n and_o thus_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o man_n and_o beast_n appear_v to_o be_v a_o compositum_fw-la of_o the_o breath_n of_o life_n and_o the_o blood_n of_o our_o life_n act_v by_o can_v do_v no_o more_o harm_n after_o they_o have_v kill_v another_o way_n it_o seem_v next_o to_o a_o assertion_n that_o man_n soul_n live_v and_o subsist_v in_o a_o state_n of_o separation_n from_o their_o body_n i_o do_v not_o by_o the_o context_n or_o any_o other_o way_n conceive_v that_o our_o lord_n do_v speak_v or_o have_v any_o intent_n to_o speak_v of_o the_o state_n of_o man_n after_o death_n in_o this_o doctrine_n whence_o the_o word_n be_v not_o able_a to_o kill_v the_o soul_n in_o that_o prospect_n of_o intend_v to_o teach_v the_o state_n of_o man_n after_o death_n seem_v quite_o beside_o our_o lord_n mean_v in_o this_o doctrine_n and_o if_o not_o quite_o out_o of_o it_o yet_o very_o plain_o collateral_a to_o it_o and_o yet_o from_o this_o side-wind_n the_o maintainer_n of_o separate_a subsistence_n draw_v the_o strong_a proof_n which_o they_o can_v find_v for_o maintain_v their_o opinion_n of_o the_o separate_a subsistence_n i_o think_v that_o upon_o perusal_n of_o this_o argument_n it_o will_v appear_v the_o strength_n of_o this_o proof_n be_v much_o weaken_a and_o abate_v and_o will_v be_v find_v to_o be_v of_o much_o less_o force_n than_o it_o seem_v to_o have_v at_o the_o first_o read_v or_o hear_v thereof_o and_o in_o this_o state_n of_o debilitation_n i_o leave_v it_o to_o prosecute_v my_o observation_n upon_o mr._n w_n page_n as_o i_o do_v before_o p._n 64_o mr._n w._n pretend_v to_o take_v the_o dispute_v word_n as_o comment_n one_o upon_o another_o and_o say_v that_o by_o construction_n they_o may_v be_v make_v to_o intend_v one_o thing_n and_o i_o be_o ready_a to_o grant_v that_o by_o construction_n they_o may_v both_o of_o they_o be_v make_v to_o serve_v the_o mean_v of_o our_o lord_n in_o this_o doctrine_n but_o then_o in_o our_o collateral_a point_n which_o st._n luke_n do_v not_o meddle_v with_o there_o be_v a_o very_a great_a variance_n between_o these_o two_o expression_n for_o that_o the_o one_o prove_v strong_o the_o soul_n be_v separate_a subsistence_n and_o the_o other_o prove_v it_o not_o nor_o meddle_v with_o it_o at_o all_o which_o prove_v that_o our_o lord_n doctrine_n do_v not_o intend_v to_o speak_v of_o that_o point_n in_o this_o place_n and_o therefore_o our_o question_n thereupon_o be_v in_o what_o word_n our_o lord_n deliver_v this_o doctrine_n and_o the_o conclusion_n be_v that_o if_o he_o deliver_v this_o doctrine_n in_o the_o word_n of_o st._n matthew_n than_o they_o be_v a_o strong_a proof_n of_o the_o soul_n separate_a subsistence_n but_o if_o his_o doctrine_n be_v deliver_v in_o the_o word_n of_o st._n luke_n then_o there_o be_v no_o proof_n at_o all_o in_o it_o of_o the_o soul_n separate_a subsistence_n and_o i_o have_v before_o enough_o argue_v on_o the_o side_n of_o st._n luke_n and_o for_o the_o probability_n that_o his_o text_n set_v forth_o to_o we_o the_o very_a word_n wherein_o our_o lord_n deliver_v this_o doctrine_n mr._n w._n confess_v that_o luke_n express_v less_o than_o matthew_n but_o say_v he_o never_o mean_v less_o which_o i_o think_v intend_v that_o the_o mean_v of_o luke_n in_o his_o text_n be_v that_o those_o who_o kill_v the_o body_n be_v not_o able_a to_o kill_v the_o soul_n which_o mean_v do_v not_o at_o all_o appear_v in_o the_o word_n of_o luke_n text_n which_o do_v not_o say_v so_o and_o how_o then_o mr._n w._n shall_v come_v to_o know_v that_o he_o mean_v so_o i_o do_v not_o understand_v and_o therefore_o i_o reject_v this_o gloss_n upon_o that_o text_n as_o mr._n w'_v own_o invention_n or_o fiction_n the_o five_o argument_n pag._n 65._o mr._n w._n raise_v a_o argument_n for_o the_o soul_n be_v separate_a subsistence_n from_o the_o appear_v of_o moses_n and_o elias_n and_o discourse_v with_o our_o lord_n upon_o that_o moses_n may_v not_o have_v die_v in_o the_o mount_n but_o may_v be_v translate_v or_o transport_v to_o heaven_n in_o person_n as_o enoch_n and_o elias_n have_v before_o be_v which_o i_o offer_v to_o prove_v by_o his_o appear_v with_o elias_n at_o mount_n taber_n it_o seem_v they_o appear_v both_o after_o a_o like_a manner_n and_o the_o one_o as_o much_o in_o person_n as_o the_o other_o mr._n w._n grant_v that_o elias_n do_v appear_v in_o person_n and_o arguendo_fw-la a_o simili_fw-la it_o appear_v most_o likely_a that_o moses_n do_v so_o too_o as_o to_o the_o text_n which_o say_v moses_n direction_n yet_o this_o close_a passage_n of_o it_o about_o his_o own_o death_n and_o burial_n it_o seem_v can_v not_o be_v so_o it_o appear_v not_o from_o whence_o the_o opinion_n
of_o his_o death_n and_o burial_n be_v derive_v or_o how_o the_o jew_n may_v come_v to_o know_v that_o he_o so_o die_v and_o be_v bury_v deut._n 3.27_o go_v get_v you_o up_o into_o the_o top_n of_o search_n for_o it_o whence_o i_o collect_v that_o his_o die_v in_o the_o mount_n and_o his_o be_v bury_v thereabouts_o be_v but_o a_o collection_n or_o conjecture_n of_o the_o jew_n from_o his_o own_o fourteen_o objection_n we_o have_v find_v one_o half_a or_o seven_o of_o they_o to_o be_v of_o small_a force_n for_o the_o overthrow_v mr._n w_n opinion_n and_o i_o observe_v that_o in_o his_o propound_v divers_a of_o the_o other_o seven_o which_o be_v strong_a against_o he_o he_o do_v it_o in_o such_o manner_n as_o their_o strength_n seem_v to_o be_v much_o impair_v by_o his_o manner_n of_o deliver_v they_o and_o therefore_o i_o design_v to_o frame_v another_o series_n of_o objection_n against_o his_o opinion_n and_o to_o place_n among_o they_o the_o seven_o objection_n of_o mr._n w'_v which_o i_o approve_v and_o to_o consider_v therein_o the_o answer_n which_o he_o have_v give_v to_o they_o not_o yet_o meaning_n to_o follow_v mr._n w_n order_n of_o propound_v they_o but_o i_o intend_v to_o offer_v all_o my_o objection_n take_v from_o scripture_n according_a to_o the_o several_a time_n wherein_o they_o be_v deliver_v first_o i_o object_n against_o mr._n w_n opinion_n from_o gen._n 9.4_o flesh_n with_o the_o life_n thereof_o which_o be_v the_o blood_n thereof_o shall_v you_o not_o eat_v and_o sure_o your_o blood_n of_o your_o life_n will_v i_o require_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o every_o beast_n will_v i_o require_v it_o and_o at_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n at_o the_o hand_n of_o every_o man_n brother_n will_v i_o require_v the_o life_n of_o man_n who_o so_o shed_v man_n blood_n by_o man_n shall_v his_o blood_n be_v shed_v for_o in_o the_o image_n of_o god_n make_v he_o man._n it_o seem_v to_o appear_v from_o the_o word_n of_o this_o text_n that_o the_o term_n blood_n and_o life_n have_v a_o convercibility_n one_o with_o another_o so_o as_o no_o blood_n no_o life_n and_o the_o shed_n of_o man_n blood_n be_v the_o kill_n of_o he_o and_o it_o be_v therefore_o make_v a_o crime_n of_o the_o high_a nature_n because_o the_o shed_n of_o man_n blood_n destroy_v the_o image_n of_o god_n wherein_o man_n be_v make_v whence_o i_o conceive_v man_n to_o be_v god_n image_n in_o his_o whole_a person_n who_o blood_n may_v be_v shed_v and_o not_o only_o in_o a_o particular_a part_n of_o he_o which_o mr._n w._n maintain_v must_v be_v his_o soul_n the_o word_n of_o the_o text_n say_v that_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v the_o life_n thereof_o and_o experience_n convince_v that_o all_o thing_n that_o have_v life_n have_v a_o sort_n of_o spirit_n for_o the_o maintain_v thereof_o as_o grass_n herb_n plant_n tree_n infect_v fish_n fowl_n brute_n and_o men._n in_o plant_n or_o tree_n if_o we_o pare_v off_o the_o skin_n or_o bark_n and_o thereby_o stop_v the_o ascent_n of_o the_o sap_n which_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o plant_n the_o plant_n will_v die_v from_o that_o place_n upward_o because_o this_o sap_n or_o spirit_n of_o life_n will_v be_v obstruct_v in_o its_o ascent_n to_o the_o high_a part_n of_o the_o plant_n and_o among_o brute_n or_o man_n if_o the_o passage_n of_o the_o blood_n be_v obstruct_v those_o part_n to_o which_o the_o blood_n can_v come_v with_o freedom_n decay_n wither_v and_o become_v of_o little_a or_o no_o use_n to_o the_o creature_n the_o text_n say_v flesh_n with_o the_o life_n thereof_o which_o be_v the_o blood_n thereof_o and_o experience_n show_v that_o the_o life_n exhale_v with_o the_o blood_n so_o as_o no_o blood_n no_o life_n whence_o i_o collect_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o brute_n life_n thereof_o which_o be_v the_o blood_n thereof_o and_o from_o the_o premise_n i_o argue_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o man_n be_v in_o his_o blood_n and_o the_o inflame_a particle_n of_o it_o and_o experience_v evidence_n that_o by_o like_a blood_n and_o spirit_n the_o brute_n be_v act_v both_o in_o their_o local_a and_o peristaltic_a motion_n their_o sense_n of_o bear_v see_v etc._n etc._n their_o affection_n of_o lust_n wrath_n and_o fear_v and_o those_o degree_n which_o they_o have_v of_o fantasy_n choice_n and_o memory_n and_o i_o pretend_v hence_o to_o infer_v that_o if_o in_o the_o blood_n there_o be_v a_o spirit_n of_o life_n which_o can_v act_v the_o brute_n in_o their_o motion_n sensation_n and_o passion_n to_o as_o high_a a_o degree_n as_o man_n be_v act_v in_o those_o performance_n and_o can_v act_v they_o to_o low_a degree_n of_o fancy_n choice_n and_o memory_n it_o seem_v a_o like_a spirit_n may_v probable_o act_v humane_a person_n in_o all_o these_o faculty_n and_o to_o much_o high_a degree_n in_o those_o of_o judgement_n fantasy_n and_o memory_n because_o in_o such_o person_n these_o spirit_n meet_v with_o organ_n of_o great_a perfection_n and_o better_o fit_v for_o the_o performance_n thereof_o and_o hereunto_o i_o apply_v the_o inject_n of_o brutal_a blood_n into_o a_o humane_a body_n which_o experience_n prove_v will_v act_v that_o body_n in_o such_o manner_n as_o it_o be_v act_v before_o by_o its_o own_o blood_n because_o the_o organ_n in_o which_o it_o work_v be_v better_o suit_v to_o such_o purpose_n than_o those_o of_o the_o
body_n so_o as_o instead_o of_o those_o day_n of_o darkness_n which_o solomon_n mention_n the_o spirit_n or_o principle_n of_o life_n in_o man_n enjoy_v a_o great_a light_n activity_n and_o freedom_n than_o it_o have_v before_o the_o death_n of_o that_o party_n who_o it_o former_o inlve_v and_o act_v and_o this_o if_o it_o be_v true_a seem_v direct_o contrary_a to_o that_o which_o solomon_n in_o this_o text_n have_v affirm_v there_o be_v day_n of_o darkness_n and_o many_o of_o they_o say_v the_o text_n of_o solomon_n mr._n w._n say_v that_o at_o the_o death_n of_o the_o party_n or_o soon_o after_o good_a man_n soul_n enjoy_v much_o more_o light_n liberty_n and_o glory_n than_o every_o they_o have_v before_o so_o as_o they_o seem_v to_o say_v the_o soul_n of_o good_a man_n have_v no_o dark_a day_n at_o all_o and_o therefore_o man_n that_o be_v jovial_a and_o merry_a need_v have_v no_o regard_n to_o such_o day_n of_o darkness_n as_o solomon_n in_o this_o text_n give_v they_o warning_n of_o and_o yet_o such_o man_n do_v not_o use_v to_o deny_v that_o a_o solemn_a and_o general_a judgement_n shall_v appear_v after_o those_o many_o day_n of_o darkness_n shall_v be_v consummate_a and_o finish_v and_o therein_o they_o agree_v with_o solomon_n opinion_n although_o concern_v his_o day_n of_o darkness_n they_o seem_v very_o much_o to_o differ_v from_o he_o but_o if_o his_o opinion_n may_v prevail_v in_o this_o case_n it_o offer_v a_o strong_a objection_n against_o the_o soul_n separate_a subsistence_n thus_o far_o objection_n have_v be_v draw_v out_o of_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o we_o now_o proceed_v to_o draw_v like_o objection_n from_o the_o new_a a_o six_o objection_n thence_o to_o be_v raise_v i_o take_v from_o john_n 14._o 2_o in_o my_o father_n house_n be_v many_o mansion_n i_o go_v to_o prepare_v a_o place_n for_o you_o and_o if_o i_o go_v to_o prepare_v a_o place_n for_o you_o i_o will_v come_v again_o and_o receive_v you_o again_o to_o myself_o that_o where_o i_o be_o there_o you_o may_v be_v also_o luke_n 21.26_o the_o power_n of_o heaven_n shall_v be_v shake_v and_o then_o shall_v they_o see_v the_o son_n of_o man_n come_v in_o intermediate_n judgement_n but_o at_o that_o adhere_v and_o last_v day_n all_o these_o text_n have_v be_v quote_v to_o give_v evidence_n of_o the_o time_n when_o reward_n and_o punishment_n after_o death_n be_v warrantable_o to_o be_v expect_v they_o all_o express_v the_o time_n thereof_o to_o be_v at_o our_o lord_n second_o come_v and_o the_o last_o great_a day_n of_o judgement_n thereupon_o ensue_v but_o make_v no_o mention_n of_o recompense_n warrantable_o to_o be_v expect_v soon_o after_o the_o time_n of_o man_n death_n or_o in_o any_o intermediate_n state_n between_o death_n and_o pretend_v here_o to_o examine_v the_o answer_n which_o he_o have_v single_o give_v to_o each_o of_o they_o to_o the_o text_n of_o our_o appear_v with_o christ_n in_o glory_n he_o answer_v and_o grant_v that_o the_o appearance_n here_o speak_v of_o intend_v that_o of_o the_o last_o judgement_n for_o till_o then_o the_o saint_n can_v be_v say_v to_o appear_v in_o glory_n with_o christ_n and_o yet_o say_v he_o they_o may_v be_v in_o glory_n with_o christ_n though_o they_o do_v not_o appear_v in_o such_o glory_n to_o men._n i_o reply_v that_o though_o they_o do_v not_o appear_v in_o such_o glory_n to_o man_n yet_o if_o there_o be_v true_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o he_o maintain_v they_o do_v appear_v in_o glory_n before_o god_n and_o the_o angel_n and_o spirit_n of_o just_a man_n make_v perfect_a and_o therefore_o may_v true_o be_v say_v to_o appear_v in_o glory_n which_o st._n paul_n say_v they_o do_v not_o till_o christ_n second_o come_v and_o appear_v in_o glory_n mr._n w._n say_v his_o sort_n of_o soul_n may_v appear_v in_o heaven_n in_o glory_n before_o that_o time_n but_o it_o lie_v upon_o he_o to_o make_v some_o proof_n that_o they_o do_v so_o which_o he_o neither_o offer_v nor_o i_o think_v be_v able_a to_o perform_v and_o therefore_o i_o think_v his_o answer_n to_o this_o text_n be_v of_o small_a weight_n the_o other_o text_n to_o which_o he_o make_v a_o answer_n be_v that_o of_o paul_n expect_v a_o crown_n to_o be_v give_v he_o at_o that_o day_n or_o the_o time_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n and_o he_o grant_v that_o the_o time_n intend_v by_o the_o word_n that_o the_o vision_n appear_v to_o st._n john_n when_o he_o be_v intrance_v for_o the_o parable_n of_o dives_n make_v no_o mention_n of_o be_v in_o heaven_n or_o the_o preferment_n of_o be_v king_n and_o priest_n to_o god_n or_o in_o his_o presence_n and_o therefore_o i_o be_o ready_a to_o reject_v this_o device_n or_o fancy_n of_o mr._n w_n brain_n and_o to_o conceive_v that_o all_o our_o quote_v text_n be_v true_a according_a to_o the_o common_a sense_n of_o their_o word_n mr._n w._n father_n say_v there_o be_v no_o word_n or_o syllable_n in_o this_o text_n that_o deny_v intervening_a intelligent_a soul_n be_v inject_v thereinto_o for_o the_o body_n can_v rise_v or_o come_v out_o of_o its_o grave_a without_o a_o spirit_n of_o life_n or_o such_o a_o sort_n of_o soul_n as_o be_v natural_a suitable_a and_o fit_v for_o that_o performance_n i_o do_v therefore_o reject_v the_o expression_n by_o he_o use_v viz._n the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o body_n because_o it_o be_v not_o where_o use_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o because_o there_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n in_o nature_n as_o that_o a_o body_n shall_v rise_v and_o live_v without_o a_o soul_n what_o rise_v therefore_o be_v not_o only_o the_o body_n but_o the_o person_n which_o be_v dead_a a_o very_a like_a or_o his_o very_a same_o person_n which_o before_o have_v die_v mr._n w._n in_o the_o conclusion_n of_o this_o objection_n say_v to_o his_o opposer_n that_o it_o be_v a_o strange_a inference_n you_o draw_v from_o this_o text_n that_o because_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o christ_n be_v rise_v that_o therefore_o raise_v uncorruptible_a and_o we_o who_o be_v then_o alive_a shall_v be_v change_v and_o the_o last_o verse_n of_o this_o chapter_n he_o add_v therefore_o my_o belove_a brethren_n be_v you_o steadfast_a unmoveable_a always_o abound_v in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n for_o as_o much_o as_o you_o know_v your_o labour_n be_v not_o in_o vain_a in_o the_o lord_n for_o i_o have_v give_v this_o my_o eight_o objection_n strong_o batter_v and_o assault_n and_o even_o overthrow_v the_o opinion_n of_o the_o soul_n separate_a subsistence_n a_o nine_o objection_n against_o mr._n w_n this_o place_n but_o in_o congruity_n of_o reason_n must_v have_v say_v brethren_n comfort_v yourselves_o against_o sorrow_n for_o your_o friend_n death_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o your_o own_o by_o consider_v the_o happy_a state_n of_o those_o which_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n for_o that_o their_o spirit_n or_o soul_n immediate_o

pregnant_a instance_n which_o he_o can_v find_v in_o scripture_n for_o prove_v that_o reward_n and_o punishment_n be_v bestow_v by_o god_n at_o the_o time_n of_o man_n death_n but_o the_o force_n of_o these_o instance_n have_v before_o be_v obstruct_v by_o those_o answer_n which_o have_v be_v several_o give_v they_o in_o their_o proper_a place_n i_o be_o not_o without_o some_o temptation_n of_o
