bare_a call_n to_o mind_n but_o a_o renew_v commemoration_n it_o regard_v the_o affection_n of_o the_o heart_n as_o well_o as_o the_o action_n of_o the_o mind_n in_o a_o word_n it_o denote_v not_o so_o much_o a_o private_a remembrance_n as_o a_o public_a and_o solemn_a commemoration_n when_o in_o our_o apostle_n phrase_n ver_fw-la 26._o we_o do_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d annunciate_n and_o show_v forth_o to_o other_o at_o the_o same_o time_n that_o we_o thus_o call_v to_o mind_n ourselves_o the_o lord_n death_n and_o that_o with_o all_o those_o pious_a motion_n and_o resentment_n that_o befit_v so_o excellent_a and_o so_o advantageous_a a_o remembrance_n to_o know_v therefore_o what_o it_o be_v that_o our_o saviour_n here_o require_v of_o we_o when_o he_o bid_v we_o to_o do_v this_o to_o remember_v or_o show_v forth_o when_o we_o come_v to_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n now_o this_o in_o general_n st._n paul_n here_o tell_v we_o be_v his_o death_n ver_fw-la 26._o that_o be_v that_o bitter_a death_n and_o passion_n which_o he_o be_v just_a then_o about_o to_o undergo_v for_o our_o sake_n when_o he_o establish_v this_o solemn_a memorial_n of_o it_o for_o say_v he_o as_o often_o as_o you_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n you_o do_v show_v forth_o the_o lord_n be_v death_n till_o his_o come_n but_o because_o a_o bare_a remembrance_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n without_o any_o far_a consideration_n either_o of_o the_o cause_n and_o manner_n of_o it_o or_o of_o those_o infinite_a advantage_n which_o accrue_v to_o we_o thereby_o will_v afford_v but_o to_o be_v assure_v that_o upon_o our_o hearty_a endeavour_n and_o earnest_a prayer_n to_o god_n this_o grace_n of_o he_o shall_v still_o increase_v in_o we_o according_a as_o we_o sincere_o apply_v ourselves_o to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o or_o as_o other_o circumstance_n shall_v happen_v to_o put_v we_o in_o need_n of_o it_o *_o if_o beside_o this_o help_n to_o keep_v we_o from_o sin_v to_o these_o thing_n but_o a_o frequent_a renew_a commemoration_n of_o they_o and_o that_o especial_o such_o by_o which_o we_o may_v not_o only_o remember_v ourselves_o but_o also_o set_v forth_o to_o other_o the_o memorial_n of_o they_o so_o s._n paul_n interpret_v it_o v_o 26_o as_o often_o as_o you_o eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d annunciate_n show_v forth_o make_v a_o solemn_a declaration_n of_o the_o lord_n death_n until_o his_o come_n and_o so_o indeed_o the_o very_a design_n of_o this_o institution_n will_v oblige_v we_o to_o understand_v it_o when_o our_o saviour_n first_o celebrate_v this_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o command_v his_o disciple_n by_o the_o like_a sacred_a ceremony_n to_o continue_v the_o memory_n of_o his_o and_o both_o by_o his_o action_n and_o his_o word_n plain_o express_v his_o mission_n of_o they_o i_o say_v not_o to_o insist_v on_o any_o of_o these_o thing_n either_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o these_o word_n to_o relate_v to_o the_o whole_a church_n to_o the_o people_n as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o priest_n and_o then_o to_o be_v sure_a they_o can_v have_v either_o the_o effect_n or_o signification_n that_o they_o herein_o attribute_v unto_o they_o or_o else_o it_o will_v remain_v that_o there_o be_v no_o divine_a command_n at_o all_o entitul_a the_o people_n to_o any_o right_n to_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n for_o if_o our_o saviour_n speak_v to_o his_o apostle_n as_o priest_n if_o he_o not_o only_o take_v the_o bread_n and_o the_o cup_n and_o consecrate_v they_o as_o a_o priest_n himself_o but_o also_o distribute_v they_o to_o the_o apostle_n as_o priest_n and_o bid_v they_o take_v eat_v and_o drink_v as_o priest_n then_o be_v not_o the_o people_n no_o not_o by_o cardinal_n bellarmin_n consequence_n at_o all_o concern_v in_o any_o part_n of_o this_o institution_n which_o the_o priest_n only_o by_o virtue_n of_o this_o command_n be_v oblige_v to_o continue_v and_o consecrate_v offer_v give_v receive_v all_o by_o themselves_o and_o to_o one_o another_o as_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n here_o be_v suppose_v without_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o disciple_n of_o egypt_n so_o shall_v we_o from_o henceforth_o by_o this_o feast_n of_o eucharist_n continue_v the_o remembrance_n of_o that_o infinite_o great_a and_o better_a redemption_n which_o he_o be_v just_a now_o about_o to_o purchase_v by_o his_o own_o death_n upon_o the_o cross_n for_o we_o and_o this_o be_v no_o doubt_n the_o first_o and_o most_o proper_a design_n of_o these_o word_n but_o now_o second_o if_o we_o consider_v they_o not_o only_o as_o a_o command_n but_o as_o they_o be_v a_o direction_n to_o inform_v his_o apostle_n first_o and_o then_o we_o how_o we_o shall_v celebrate_v this_o holy_a sacrament_n they_o will_v then_o add_v thus_o much_o to_o our_o former_a account_n namely_o that_o we_o have_v here_o not_o only_o in_o general_a a_o command_n to_o continue_v the_o memory_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n but_o moreover_o a_o instruction_n also_o after_o what_o manner_n we_o be_v to_o do_v it_o that_o as_o our_o saviour_n christ_n here_o take_v the_o bread_n bless_v it_o and_o break_v it_o and_o give_v it_o to_o his_o disciple_n say_v take_v eat_v this_o be_v my_o body_n which_o be_v give_v for_o you_o as_o he_o take_v the_o cup_n bless_v it_o and_o give_v it_o to_o they_o say_v drink_v you_o all_o of_o this_o so_o shall_v those_o who_o now_o minister_v in_o holy_a thing_n when_o they_o stand_v at_o the_o altar_n and_o set_v forth_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n in_o this_o sacred_a memorial_n of_o it_o after_o his_o example_n and_o in_o obedience_n to_o his_o command_n in_o like_a manner_n take_v and_o bless_v and_o distribute_v these_o sacred_a element_n to_o all_o those_o who_o partake_v with_o they_o in_o this_o sacrament_n *_o as_o the_o apostle_n receive_v first_o the_o bread_n than_o the_o cup_n too_o at_o his_o hand_n so_o shall_v all_o they_o who_o supply_v the_o place_n of_o the_o apostle_n at_o our_o table_n receive_v both_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o of_o these_o after_o their_o example_n *_o and_o whosoever_o he_o be_v that_o celebrate_v this_o holy_a feast_n in_o any_o other_o manner_n than_o the_o bless_a jesus_n do_v and_o have_v give_v we_o a_o command_n to_o do_v it_o he_o therein_o both_o depart_v from_o the_o example_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o violate_v the_o design_n of_o his_o precept_n who_o not_o only_o in_o that_o particular_a manner_n as_o so_o many_o of_o the_o holy_a same_o manner_n in_o which_o he_o establish_v it_o do_v this_o in_o remembrance_n of_o me._n but_o here_o therefore_o let_v i_o not_o be_v misunderstand_a for_o when_o i_o say_v that_o our_o saviour_n christ_n in_o my_o text_n command_v his_o apostle_n to_o do_v this_o in_o remembrance_n of_o he_o do_v not_o only_o in_o general_n command_v they_o to_o perpetuate_v the_o memory_n of_o his_o death_n long_o detain_v they_o in_o a_o unjust_a aversion_n to_o our_o worship_n bless_a be_v god_n who_o have_v abundant_o justify_v both_o the_o purity_n of_o our_o doctrine_n and_o the_o innocency_n of_o our_o worship_n not_o only_o by_o the_o general_a approbation_n of_o the_o reform_a church_n abroad_o who_o both_o free_o communicate_v with_o we_o in_o our_o religious_a office_n and_o have_v often_o the_o same_o house_n of_o god_n as_o friend_n and_o indeed_o the_o thing_n for_o which_o some_o forsake_v we_o now_o be_v no_o other_o than_o what_o they_o be_v in_o the_o beginning_n of_o the_o reformation_n when_o yet_o there_o be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o separation_n from_o our_o communion_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a the_o old_a nonconformist_n themselves_o though_o they_o dislike_v some_o thing_n in_o our_o worship_n yet_o free_o declare_v they_o think_v it_o a_o crime_n to_o divide_v the_o church_n on_o the_o account_n of_o they_o and_o they_o who_o at_o this_o day_n separate_v from_o we_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o those_o few_o constitution_n that_o have_v be_v make_v for_o the_o order_n and_o decency_n of_o our_o public_a worship_n must_v for_o the_o same_o reason_n have_v to_o accomplish_v that_o union_n so_o much_o recommend_v to_o we_o by_o our_o apostle_n so_o advantageous_a to_o the_o church_n at_o all_o time_n but_o especial_o at_o this_o time_n so_o necessary_a to_o our_o peace_n and_o our_o establishment_n that_o it_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o only_a way_n that_o yet_o remain_v to_o settle_v and_o to_o secure_v we_o and_o upon_o all_o these_o account_n so_o much_o to_o be_v desire_v by_o all_o good_a man_n we_o must_v seek_v it_o by_o that_o rule_n which_o st._n paul_n here_o propose_v to_o the_o dissent_v christian_n of_o my_o text_n we_o then_o that_o it_o they_o have_v time_n give_v they_o till_o the_o next_o month_n to_o cleanse_v themselves_o and_o to_o come_v up_o to_o jerusalem_n and_o if_o they_o neglect_v in_o the_o second_o month_n to_o keep_v the_o feast_n after_o have_v omit_v it_o in_o the_o first_o there_o be_v then_o no_o far_o provision_n for_o they_o but_o they_o fall_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o those_o who_o neglect_v altogether_o to_o eat_v of_o it_o and_o this_o therefore_o may_v serve_v for_o a_o useful_a admonition_n as_o well_o as_o full_a answer_n to_o the_o excuse_n of_o those_o who_o be_v still_o pretend_v they_o be_v not_o worthy_a to_o come_v to_o this_o sacrament_n or_o else_o have_v not_o time_n and_o leisure_n to_o prepare_v themselves_o for_o it_o if_o indeed_o this_o shall_v chance_v by_o any_o accident_n to_o hinder_v they_o at_o this_o time_n or_o on_o this_o occasion_n from_o receive_v of_o it_o they_o ought_v not_o therefore_o to_o disquiet_v themselves_o but_o to_o believe_v that_o in_o such_o a_o case_n our_o saviour_n christ_n will_v make_v the_o same_o allowance_n for_o this_o feast_n that_o god_n do_v for_o that_o other_o and_o permit_v they_o yet_o another_o month_n to_o remove_v the_o obstacle_n and_o prepare_v themselves_o to_o come_v to_o his_o table_n but_o if_o instead_o of_o do_v this_o they_o shall_v still_o go_v on_o to_o insist_v upon_o these_o vain_a pretence_n and_o live_v so_o as_o not_o to_o be_v worthy_a to_o receive_v the_o holy_a sacrament_n and_o continue_v to_o live_v so_o still_o without_o take_v any_o care_n to_o put_v themselves_o into_o a_o better_a state_n this_o will_v prove_v a_o aggravation_n of_o their_o sin_n not_o a_o lessen_v of_o it_o and_o their_o neglect_n will_v be_v but_o the_o more_o inexcusable_a for_o be_v ground_v on_o a_o reason_n so_o contrary_a not_o only_o to_o the_o design_n of_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n but_o of_o the_o whole_a christian_a religion_n but_o sixthly_a and_o to_o close_v all_o himself_o to_o die_v for_o we_o that_o then_o they_o receive_v it_o ordinary_o every_o day_n insomuch_o that_o some_o of_o those_o father_n who_o then_o live_v have_v interpret_v this_o eucharistical_a bread_n to_o be_v that_o daily_a bread_n which_o our_o lord_n have_v teach_v we_o to_o pray_v for_o afterward_o as_o man_n zeal_n cool_v so_o do_v their_o frequent_a communicate_v decay_n in_o proportion_n with_o it_o at_o first_o it_o fall_v in_o some_o church_n to_o four_o in_o other_o to_o three_o time_n in_o the_o week_n and_o in_o a_o little_a while_n it_o come_v to_o be_v the_o distinctive_a devotion_n of_o the_o lord_n day_n and_o at_o last_o the_o necessary_a lest_o proportion_n establish_v be_v the_o three_o great_a feast_n of_o the_o year_n in_o which_o our_o church_n still_o oblige_v all_o her_o member_n to_o partake_v of_o it_o but_o as_o he_o who_o be_v in_o a_o pure_a and_o holy_a state_n can_v never_o receive_v it_o too_o often_o so_o certain_o it_o to_o revive_v something_o of_o the_o primitive_a zeal_n among_o we_o as_o to_o this_o particular_a in_o bring_v our_o solemn_a communion_n to_o a_o monthly_a course_n beside_o other_o extraordinary_a occasion_n of_o it_o i_o do_v not_o see_v what_o better_a exhortation_n i_o can_v leave_v with_o you_o as_o to_o this_o matter_n than_o serious_o to_o advise_v and_o earnest_o beseech_v every_o one_o
