and_o thou_o applaude_v thyself_o in_o this_o as_o a_o eminent_a benefit_n 3_o thou_o make_v thy_o boast_n in_o god_n viz._n that_o thou_o be_v of_o that_o people_n choose_v above_o all_o other_o or_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n have_v free_v every_o believer_n and_o i_o in_o particular_a from_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n or_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n therefore_o to_o they_o that_o be_v justify_v true_o unite_v unto_o christ_n there_o be_v no_o condemnation_n for_o by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n jesus_n he_o understand_v the_o law_n of_o peace_n reason_n 2._o the_o wisdom_n of_o carnal_a man_n which_o be_v the_o governor_n of_o their_o counsel_n and_o action_n and_o be_v carry_v only_o to_o those_o thing_n which_o please_v the_o flesh_n whether_o in_o respect_n to_o god_n or_o eternal_a life_n and_o so_o it_o incline_v to_o death_n but_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o spirit_n or_o a_o habit_n direct_v the_o action_n of_o regenerate_a man_n be_v carry_v to_o those_o thing_n which_o belong_v to_o spiritual_a life_n and_o peace_n therefore_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n if_o only_o they_o that_o be_v regenerate_v and_o spiritual_a be_v exempt_v from_o condemnation_n but_o not_o they_o that_o be_v carnal_a vers._n 7._o because_o the_o carnal_a mind_n be_v enmity_n against_o god_n for_o it_o be_v not_o subject_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n neither_o indeed_o can_v be_v reason_n 3._o confirm_v the_o former_a the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o flesh_n itself_o the_o principal_a virtue_n of_o politic_a wit_n be_v enmity_n against_o god_n for_o it_o only_o seek_v and_o care_n for_o its_o own_o reject_v god_n neither_o be_v it_o subject_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n or_o can_v be_v subject_a for_o it_o can_v but_o subject_n to_o its_o own_o carnal_a end_n the_o soul_n heaven_n god_n and_o all_o thing_n and_o pursue_v after_o these_o so_o far_o as_o it_o think_v they_o conducible_a to_o carnal_a end_n therefore_o it_o be_v no_o wonder_n that_o carnal_a man_n be_v not_o free_v from_o condemnation_n vers._n 8._o so_o then_o they_o that_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n can_v please_v god_n reason_n 4._o whoever_o be_v unregenerate_a in_o the_o state_n of_o corrupt_a nature_n or_o the_o flesh_n can_v please_v god_n because_o they_o can_v but_o follow_v after_o those_o thing_n which_o please_v they_o therefore_o no_o wonder_n they_o be_v not_o free_v from_o condemnation_n vers._n 9_o but_o you_o be_v not_o in_o the_o flesh_n but_o in_o the_o spirit_n if_o so_o be_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n 8._o again_o a_o new_a commandment_n i_o write_v unto_o you_o which_o thing_n be_v true_a in_o he_o and_o in_o you_o because_o the_o darkness_n be_v past_a and_o the_o true_a light_n now_o shine_v reas._n 11._o this_o commandment_n be_v not_o old_a in_o the_o oldness_n of_o the_o letter_n as_o in_o time_n past_o it_o be_v so_o long_o as_o you_o live_v irregenerate_a under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n when_o the_o law_n do_v command_v and_o confer_v no_o strength_n to_o perform_v but_o it_o be_v now_o in_o the_o newness_n of_o spirit_n to_o the_o perform_v whereof_o christ_n will_v administer_v new_a grace_n to_o you_o therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o follow_v after_o holiness_n which_o what_o the_o new_a covenant_n be_v he_o expound_v in_o the_o next_o word_n affirm_v that_o the_o command_n be_v new_a both_o in_o respect_n of_o christ_n who_o quicken_v the_o commandment_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o themselves_o who_o be_v now_o by_o regeneration_n make_v new_a creature_n i._n e._n to_o who_o grace_n be_v administer_v and_o be_v furthermore_o to_o be_v administer_v to_o obedience_n because_o the_o darkness_n the_o reason_n be_v give_v to_o this_o sense_n because_o you_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n but_o under_o grace_n you_o be_v not_o in_o a_o state_n of_o irregeneration_n but_o be_v renew_v for_o the_o darkness_n of_o the_o legal_a covenant_n and_o the_o state_n of_o irregeneration_n be_v pass_v away_o and_o now_o christ_n who_o bring_v life_n and_o grace_n with_o he_o and_o be_v the_o true_a light_n be_v rise_v as_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n upon_o you_o that_o believe_v and_o have_v both_o communicate_v the_o light_n and_o also_o the_o heat_n of_o life_n to_o you_o therefore_o the_o commandment_n be_v new_a to_o you_o that_o you_o ought_v to_o be_v encourage_v to_o follow_v after_o holiness_n with_o more_o alacrity_n vers._n 9_o he_o that_o say_v he_o be_v in_o the_o light_n and_o hate_v his_o brother_n be_v in_o darkness_n even_o until_o now_o the_o second_o exhortation_n draw_v the_o former_a to_o the_o love_n of_o the_o brethren_n the_o argument_n of_o the_o exhortation_n be_v ten_o beside_o those_o two_o which_o be_v next_o recite_v and_o may_v also_o be_v refer_v hither_o argum._n 1._o whosoever_o profess_v himself_o to_o be_v in_o the_o light_n or_o regenerate_v and_o hate_v his_o brother_n he_o lie_v yet_o unregenerate_v in_o the_o darkness_n of_o ignorance_n and_o sin_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v after_o brotherly_a love_n vers._n 10._o he_o that_o love_v his_o brother_n abide_v in_o the_o light_n and_o there_o be_v none_o occasion_n of_o stumble_v in_o he_o argum._n 2._o he_o that_o love_v his_o brother_n remain_v in_o the_o light_n and_o persevere_fw-la in_o the_o way_n of_o truth_n in_o part_n possess_v the_o lot_n and_o condition_n of_o the_o saint_n therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o follow_v after_o etc._n etc._n and_o none_o occasion_n of_o stumble_v argum._n 3._o he_o that_o love_v his_o brother_n do_v neither_o stumble_v himself_o in_o the_o way_n of_o holiness_n always_o see_v whither_o he_o go_v viz._n to_o god_n by_o faith_n in_o the_o way_n of_o obedience_n nor_o be_v he_o a_o occasion_n of_o stumble_v to_o other_o whereby_o they_o may_v either_o be_v draw_v into_o sin_n or_o harden_v in_o it_o therefore_o you_o ought_v to_o endeavour_v after_o brotherly_a love_n vers._n 11._o but_o he_o that_o hate_v his_o brother_n be_v in_o darkness_n and_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o know_v not_o whither_o he_o go_v because_o that_o darkness_n have_v blind_v his_o eye_n argum._n 4._o he_o that_o hate_v his_o brother_n he_o whole_o lie_v and_o persevere_fw-la in_o sin_n and_o swarve_v from_o the_o right_a way_n which_o lead_v to_o salvation_n he_o be_v carry_v to_o a_o precipice_n not_o know_v whither_o he_o go_v because_o his_o mind_n be_v darken_v with_o sin_n therefore_o you_o must_v follow_v after_o brotherly_a love_n vers._n 12._o i_o write_v unto_o you_o little_a child_n because_o your_o sin_n be_v forgive_v you_o for_o his_o name_n sake_n argum._n 5._o o_o faithful_a
