essence_n of_o the_o thing_n in_o which_o he_o be_v not_o yet_o get_v and_o to_o which_o he_o at_o last_o come_v just_o as_o a_o flower_n be_v a_o certain_a demonstration_n of_o the_o fruit_n that_o every_o other_o after_o the_o former_a so_o that_o the_o precede_a conflict_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o follow_a be_v always_o light_a though_o they_o also_o in_o respect_n of_o those_o that_o be_v under_o law_n yet_o afterward_o he_o be_v not_o so_o because_o through_o this_o whole_a state_n even_o to_o the_o follow_v he_o suffer_v and_o the_o state_n which_o follow_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o forego_n be_v horrible_a whereas_o before_o that_o it_o do_v seem_v to_o be_v noble_a yet_o in_o respect_n of_o man_n and_o not_o of_o god_n for_o by_o how_o much_o the_o sublime_a be_v the_o corruption_n by_o so_o much_o the_o more_o noble_a will_v be_v the_o fruit_n for_o a_o man_n be_v still_o lead_v more_o deep_o and_o deep_o into_o affliction_n the_o former_a state_n be_v always_o more_o eligible_a in_o respect_n of_o that_o which_o follow_v so_o that_o a_o man_n as_o far_o as_o he_o be_v in_o the_o forego_n can_v account_v of_o himself_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o follow_a a_o heretic_n when_o christ_n say_v if_o they_o shall_v say_v lo_o here_o be_v christ_n go_v not_o forth_o he_o will_v say_v this_o we_o must_v not_o depart_v from_o affâ—ition_n into_o they_o who_o lie_v down_o in_o death_n life_n can_v enter_v they_o who_o have_v not_o yet_o lie_v down_o in_o death_n and_o yet_o obey_v the_o governance_n of_o their_o conscience_n stand_v in_o the_o midst_n between_o life_n and_o death_n they_o be_v subject_a to_o great_a labour_n and_o strife_n who_o endeavour_n by_o the_o help_n of_o conscience_n to_o suppress_v that_o life_n which_o they_o have_v in_o themselves_o these_o man_n as_o yet_o can_v know_v no_o death_n until_o they_o come_v into_o that_o state_n but_o yet_o they_o believe_v it_o they_o who_o be_v in_o death_n even_o their_o very_a cogitation_n do_v lie_v in_o death_n that_o they_o can_v be_v delight_v with_o noth_z ng_z neither_o with_o god_n nor_o with_o the_o creature_n for_o if_o they_o can_v still_o be_v delight_v with_o any_o thing_n by_o think_v or_o cogitation_n that_o will_v still_o prove_v to_o be_v a_o life_n which_o can_v be_v in_o this_o case_n it_o one_o place_v under_o a_o naked_a sword_n shall_v be_v ask_v whether_o he_o take_v delight_n at_o that_o time_n in_o any_o thing_n without_o doubt_n he_o will_v answer_v that_o he_o sit_v in_o death_n nor_o can_v possible_o fancy_v to_o himself_o any_o other_o thing_n but_o a_o certain_a and_o a_o real_a death_n if_o such_o a_o one_o shall_v get_v up_o on_o his_o leg_n to_o look_v about_o on_o life_n and_o thing_n temporal_a he_o will_v see_v nothing_o we_o may_v bear_v it_o and_o be_v unite_v with_o it_o moreover_o those_o man_n who_o thus_o lie_v in_o death_n have_v little_a or_o no_o comeliness_n in_o they_o but_o be_v very_o much_o deform_v and_o therefore_o he_o who_o be_v conversant_a with_o they_o must_v beware_v lest_o he_o imitate_v their_o word_n or_o behaviour_n for_o whatsoever_o they_o do_v or_o omit_v to_o do_v be_v silent_a in_o or_o speak_v it_o be_v all_o perform_v in_o death_n nor_o can_v any_o life_n joy_n comfort_n or_o pleasure_n lay_v hold_v of_o they_o in_o this_o state_n they_o be_v untouched_a by_o delectation_n and_o be_v fill_v with_o death_n if_o therefore_o he_o who_o be_v without_o the_o bound_n of_o this_o state_n shall_v imitate_v their_o word_n and_o action_n he_o will_v do_v thus_o whilst_o he_o be_v still_o full_a of_o life_n and_o with_o a_o feel_n of_o comfort_n of_o joy_n of_o pleasure_n etc._n etc._n and_o then_o will_v he_o wander_v egregious_o because_o he_o will_v be_v it_o such_o a_o death_n which_o be_v once_o accomplish_v then_o cease_v but_o it_o be_v a_o incessant_a death_n every_o day_n for_o they_o sensible_o die_v every_o particular_a day_n but_o for_o the_o other_o who_o still_o abide_v only_o in_o continency_n they_o as_o i_o say_v have_v not_o this_o death_n but_o be_v still_o alive_a for_o those_o mean_n in_o which_o lust_n do_v abide_v be_v not_o in_o these_o man_n as_o yet_o condemn_v to_o death_n and_o therefore_o they_o ought_v to_o abstain_v under_o the_o labour_n of_o the_o law_n and_o sedulous_o to_o beware_v because_o they_o can_v scarce_o do_v any_o thing_n which_o be_v not_o do_v by_o the_o use_n or_o help_v of_o life_n but_o they_o who_o be_v dead_a do_v the_o same_o thing_n in_o death_n with_o misery_n and_o affliction_n and_o therefore_o as_o be_v say_v above_o he_o who_o live_v must_v not_o regard_v he_o that_o be_v dead_a to_o imitate_v he_o until_o he_o himself_o also_o be_v arrive_v at_o this_o state_n of_o death_n then_o be_v those_o thing_n grant_v unto_o he_o and_o be_v become_v pure_a unto_o he_o which_o whilst_o he_o be_v alive_a be_v impure_a yet_o be_v it_o not_o here_o so_o to_o be_v understand_v that_o one_o may_v therefore_o think_v that_o unjust_a thing_n be_v lawful_a for_o he_o or_o be_v pure_a as_o at_o this_o day_n some_o erroneous_a spirit_n david_n george_n and_o henry_n nicholas_n do_v profess_v who_o think_v such_o thing_n be_v lawful_a for_o they_o which_o be_v not_o of_o themselves_o lawful_a but_o be_v wicked_a and_o unjust_a before_o god_n and_o the_o elect_a by_o which_o they_o demonstrate_v that_o they_o sals_o boast_v themselves_o of_o their_o die_a and_o death_n let_v all_o those_o who_o desire_v to_o find_v out_o god_n beware_v of_o these_o kind_n of_o man_n in_o mutation_n for_o his_o part_n and_o a_o permanency_n on_o the_o part_n of_o god_n that_o man_n feel_v somewhat_o let_v no_o man_n so_o much_o esteem_v of_o the_o suffering_n of_o the_o soul_n as_o to_o contemn_v the_o affliction_n of_o nature_n for_o the_o matter_n upon_o examination_n be_v otherwise_o find_v when_o a_o man_n stand_v in_o the_o trial_n between_o god_n and_o nature_n and_o be_v equal_o on_o both_o side_n grievous_o afflict_v so_o as_o that_o he_o must_v deny_v one_o or_o the_o other_o let_v i_o pray_v that_o man_n bear_v up_o and_o let_v he_o deny_v nature_n and_o not_o god_n let_v he_o i_o pray_v bear_v up_o vigorous_o and_o not_o shrink_v for_o god_n help_v he_o chap._n xviii_o when_o a_o man_n prop_n fall_v from_o under_o he_o by_o which_o he_o be_v bear_v up_o they_o have_v not_o satisfy_v their_o conscience_n and_o that_o false_a worship_n be_v therefore_o account_v for_o the_o true_a and_o remain_v unknown_a but_o when_o one_o satisfi_v his_o conscience_n than_o it_o be_v detect_v to_o be_v a_o false_a worship_n for_o when_o one_o satisfi_v conscience_n there_o conscience_n be_v clear_v and_o illuminate_v and_o there_o a_o man_n be_v
always_o more_o and_o more_o straighten_v and_o at_o length_n come_v into_o that_o affliction_n anxiety_n and_o sorrow_n by_o which_o he_o be_v so_o advance_v forward_o and_o his_o conscience_n be_v so_o clarify_a and_o illuminate_v that_o he_o can_v gain_v a_o true_a discern_v of_o thing_n and_o no_o falsity_n can_v ever_o deceive_v he_o to_o all_o eternity_n chap._n xix_o a_o certain_a man_n say_v that_o burden_n and_o trouble_v which_o my_o neighbour_n have_v upon_o my_o account_n do_v affect_v i_o with_o much_o grief_n former_o such_o a_o matter_n be_v to_o i_o a_o light_a thing_n and_o a_o new_a promise_n of_o grace_n because_o grace_n in_o the_o regenerate_v have_v take_v most_o deep_a root_n according_a to_o its_o own_o true_a nature_n so_o that_o such_o have_v certain_o no_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o they_o shall_v this_o way_n arrive_v at_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n and_o can_v possible_o be_v plant_v into_o liberty_n as_o in_o the_o sight_n god_n because_o that_o they_o be_v not_o lead_v in_o thaâ—_n true_a and_o as_o it_o be_v that_o essential_a death_n to_o be_v find_v in_o both_o soul_n and_o body_n buâ—_n be_v only_o instruct_v by_o know_v though_o for_o the_o resurrection_n to_o the_o same_o person_n dear_a brother_n we_o will_v beg_v of_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o may_v have_v mercy_n on_o we_o and_o that_o he_o will_v lead_v we_o into_o the_o power_n of_o the_o resurrection_n every_o one_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o illumination_n by_o the_o quicken_a power_n of_o his_o spirit_n by_o the_o benefit_n of_o who_o all_o seed_n do_v put_v forth_o their_o faculty_n in_o grow_v for_o the_o natural_a life_n faculty_n understanding_n wisdom_n and_o sense_n do_v all_o tend_v to_o death_n in_o time_n and_o though_o a_o man_n delude_v by_o some_o fair_a show_n may_v imagine_v to_o himself_o a_o eternal_a permanency_n of_o these_o thing_n yet_o when_o the_o sun_n be_v rise_v to_o a_o burn_a strength_n all_o these_o will_v very_a discretion_n itself_o of_o the_o soul_n must_v die_v likewise_o as_o far_o as_o the_o natural_a man_n study_v to_o preserve_v it_o if_o that_o that_o man_n according_a to_o the_o testimony_n of_o his_o conscience_n be_v willing_a to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n lest_o that_o soul_n do_v tumble_v down_o into_o utter_a destruction_n now_o because_o it_o be_v not_o the_o proper_a disposition_n of_o the_o natural_a man_n to_o lose_v any_o thing_n but_o rather_o with_o the_o top_n of_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o preserve_v all_o thing_n therefore_o it_o be_v subject_v to_o the_o the_o soul_n can_v come_v at_o the_o true_a nourishment_n of_o life_n but_o be_v to_o be_v deliveral_a up_o to_o death_n inasmuch_o as_o the_o natural_a man_n proper_o be_v death_n itself_o and_o belong_v to_o death_n for_o they_o be_v bind_v up_o together_o into_o one_o body_n and_o both_o viz._n the_o body_n from_o the_o soul_n and_o on_o the_o other_o part_n the_o soul_n from_o the_o body_n be_v move_v together_o whether_o it_o be_v to_o grief_n or_o to_o joy_n yea_o though_o it_o be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o the_o high_a knowledge_n unto_o which_o the_o soul_n according_a to_o the_o natural_a rule_n of_o life_n can_v possible_o ascend_v for_o she_o can_v be_v elevate_v high_a in_o understanding_n unless_o first_o as_o to_o her_o knowledge_n by_o which_o the_o natural_a man_n be_v nor_o according_a to_o body_n because_o this_o generation_n not_o of_o man_n but_o without_o man_n nor_o out_o of_o his_o will_n but_o without_o his_o will_n not_o with_o hope_n but_o without_o all_o hope_n arrive_v at_o the_o state_n of_o eternity_n out_o of_o the_o eternal_a grace_n of_o god_n so_o as_o that_o it_o be_v of_o god_n and_o of_o life_n always_o abide_v nor_o be_v it_o corruptible_a even_o as_o also_o god_n be_v in_o his_o own_o nature_n every_o thing_n therefore_o return_v to_o that_o out_o of_o which_o it_o first_o spring_v viz._n the_o natural_a man_n with_o its_o perfect_a body_n and_o in_o its_o sphere_n to_o death_n without_o any_o resurrection_n at_o all_o according_a to_o its_o own_o proper_a nature_n and_o the_o supernatural_a man_n in_o its_o perfect_a sphere_n to_o eternal_a life_n abide_v eternal_o in_o god_n and_o yet_o as_o a_o creature_n but_o glorify_v in_o god_n he_o who_o come_v to_o this_o state_n can_v deny_v the_o truth_n of_o the_o thing_n but_o he_o who_o partake_v nothing_o thereof_o also_o as_o a_o natural_a man_n utter_v with_o truth_n that_o he_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v no_o resurrection_n and_o although_o he_o shall_v confess_v it_o yet_o even_o that_o confession_n of_o the_o resurrection_n must_v die_v because_o unto_o the_o natural_a man_n as_o such_o there_o never_o even_o eternal_o belong_v any_o resurrection_n even_o as_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o a_o seed_n sow_o to_o come_v to_o a_o perfect_a death_n unless_o it_o be_v whole_o corrupt_v in_o its_o self_n if_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v bring_v to_o pass_v they_o so_o that_o by_o how_o much_o the_o more_o the_o natural_a man_n affirm_v that_o there_o be_v no_o more_o resurrection_n by_o so_o much_o the_o more_o he_o confirm_v it_o because_o he_o true_o be_v prepare_v himself_o for_o death_n and_o utter_v public_o his_o testimony_n concern_v his_o corruption_n and_o his_o eternal_a death_n for_o there_o be_v to_o be_v no_o resurrection_n of_o he_o and_o thus_o also_o to_o he_o may_v together_o with_o the_o keeper_n who_o the_o pharisee_n set_v a_o testimony_n concern_v the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v which_o also_o by_o this_o
