mountain_n thus_o the_o prophet_n cast_v his_o eye_n aside_o as_o it_o be_v upon_o the_o wicked_a who_o forsake_v the_o help_n of_o the_o lord_n mercy_n and_o goodness_n which_o be_v then_o in_o jerusalem_n seek_v relief_n and_o succour_n in_o other_o mountain_n in_o like_a manner_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o romish_a antichrist_n there_o be_v infinite_a feet_n and_o swarm_n of_o monk_n obtain_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n hope_v also_o by_o these_o comfort_n to_o overcome_v the_o terror_n of_o god_n wrath_n &_o heal_v the_o wound_n of_o conscience_n and_o this_o be_v always_o the_o inclination_n of_o man_n nature_n to_o follow_v his_o own_o way_n and_o to_o forsake_v the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n therefore_o david_n say_v some_o forsake_v the_o temple_n &_o abhor_v the_o mount_n zion_n but_o i_o abide_v in_o the_o simple_a way_n of_o faith_n &_o true_a religion_n which_o be_v the_o healthful_a hill_n that_o the_o lord_n himself_o have_v appoint_v in_o that_o he_o call_v it_o the_o healthful_a hill_n or_o the_o hill_n from_o whence_o help_n and_o succour_n come_v he_o reject_v and_o condemn_v all_o other_o hill_n which_o have_v a_o show_n of_o help_n and_o succour_v such_o i_o mean_v as_o be_v visible_o wrought_v in_o the_o service_n and_o honour_n do_v to_o the_o idol_n but_o true_a help_n they_o give_v none_o so_o the_o jew_n say_v that_o baal_n show_v more_o present_a help_n in_o the_o temple_n then_o god_n so_o they_o cry_v in_o jeremy_n we_o will_v do_v sacrifice_n to_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n but_o thy_o commandment_n we_o will_v and_o delight_n the_o heart_n of_o man_n can_v here_o desire_v or_o enjoy_v he_o find_v they_o uncertain_a and_o short_o must_v forsake_v they_o and_o yet_o withal_o they_o bring_v unspeakable_a torment_n and_o affliction_n of_o mind_n and_o lead_v man_n into_o such_o blindness_n that_o they_o have_v no_o regard_n of_o god_n at_o all_o who_o do_v not_o delight_v his_o true_a worshipper_n with_o vain_a pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o endure_v but_o a_o moment_n but_o replenish_v they_o with_o everlasting_a joy_n for_o thus_o he_o say_v i_o will_v see_v you_o again_o and_o your_o forth_o unto_o we_o invisible_a help_n and_o yet_o to_o be_v look_v for_o as_o certain_a and_o unfallible_a and_o although_o we_o think_v it_o long_o before_o they_o come_v yet_o will_v they_o come_v heart_n and_o judgement_n never_o so_o much_o to_o the_o contrary_n as_o when_o our_o heart_n oppress_v with_o calamity_n do_v think_v god_n to_o be_v angry_a with_o we_o not_o to_o care_v for_o we_o unless_o they_o be_v cure_v by_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n set_v forth_o unto_o we_o in_o christ_n for_o mercy_n pertain_v not_o to_o feign_a sin_n but_o to_o true_a sin_n which_o kill_v and_o poor_a and_o miserable_a conscience_n in_o the_o agony_n of_o death_n lie_v hold_v upon_o certain_a sentence_n of_o the_o gospel_n which_o do_v in_o deed_n pertain_v unto_o the_o law_n and_o thereby_o lose_v the_o sweet_a comfort_n and_o consolation_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o for_o example_n if_o thou_o will_v enter_v into_o life_n keep_v the_o commandment_n again_o not_o every_o one_o that_o say_v lord_n lord_n shall_v enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n with_o such_o sentence_n poor_a and_o silly_a conscience_n be_v so_o bruise_v and_o break_v that_o they_o can_v see_v nothing_o but_o all_o might_n and_o subtlety_n to_o bring_v they_o to_o presumption_n and_o security_n wherefore_o they_o must_v fight_v continual_o against_o this_o hide_v and_o lurk_a poison_n and_o above_o all_o thing_n they_o must_v beware_v that_o they_o flatter_v not_o themselves_o as_o though_o they_o know_v well_o enough_o the_o distinction_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o gospel_n in_o deed_n thou_o may_v know_v it_o but_o consider_v well_o whether_o thou_o have_v sure_o hold_v thereof_o so_o that_o it_o can_v be_v wrest_v from_o thou_o by_o satan_n &_o thine_o own_o conscience_n paul_n plain_o confess_v that_o he_o have_v not_o yet_o attain_v to_o this_o knowledge_n 3._o but_o follow_v it_o as_o one_o run_v in_o the_o race_n and_o press_v towards_o the_o mark_n so_o it_o go_v with_o we_o all_o we_o turn_v our_o face_n unto_o the_o mark_n and_o this_o be_v the_o race_n we_o run_v that_o we_o may_v attain_v unto_o the_o mark_n but_o that_o will_v not_o be_v until_o this_o flesh_n be_v put_v of_o and_o lay_v in_o the_o earth_n wherefore_o in_o the_o mean_a season_n let_v we_o walk_v in_o fear_n and_o humbleness_n of_o heart_n with_o hearty_a prayer_n that_o the_o light_n which_o by_o the_o fault_n partly_o of_o ourselves_o as_o i_o have_v say_v and_o partly_o of_o satan_n who_o lead_v we_o from_o the_o word_n before_o we_o be_v ware_n and_o make_v we_o to_o think_v of_o our_o own_o worthiness_n or_o unworthiness_n of_o our_o good_a or_o evil_a desert_n also_o of_o the_o terror_n of_o death_n of_o the_o torment_n of_o hell_n etc_n etc_n when_o we_o think_v of_o these_o thing_n if_o we_o lay_v not_o hold_v upon_o christ_n we_o perish_v and_o be_v swallow_v up_o with_o anguish_n and_o sorrow_n for_o this_o be_v to_o lose_v the_o ark_n of_o the_o covenant_n they_o therefore_o which_o in_o these_o danger_n take_v hold_v again_o of_o the_o word_n be_v safe_a and_o be_v now_o able_a to_o say_v with_o david_n why_o be_v thou_o cast_v down_o 42.6_o oh_o my_o soul_n and_o why_o be_v thou_o unquiet_a within_o i_o for_o i_o be_o now_o in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o peace_n of_o joy_n and_o eternal_a rejoice_v save_v that_o must_v pray_v therefore_o that_o god_n will_v give_v we_o good_a pastor_n faithful_a wise_a and_o godly_a disposer_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o by_o their_o mean_n and_o ministry_n the_o church_n do_v enjoy_v this_o inestimable_a benefit_n and_o blessing_n whereby_o it_o triumph_v over_o death_n sin_n and_o the_o devil_n for_o it_o know_v that_o it_o be_v now_o in_o the_o kingdom_n behold_v the_o same_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n with_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n though_o our_o affliction_n and_o calamity_n seem_v never_o so_o great_a and_o grievous_a yet_o the_o supper_n affliction_n yea_o and_o death_n itself_o be_v altogether_o as_o you_o will_v say_v but_o one_o nothing_o and_o if_o we_o compare_v they_o unto_o god_n by_o the_o judgement_n of_o faith_n we_o shall_v feel_v they_o so_o to_o be_v in_o deed_n but_o who_o have_v sufficient_o learn_v thus_o to_o do_v somewhat_o we_o may_v say_v christian_n and_o teach_v other_o after_o a_o sort_n but_o use_v and_o experience_n with_o inward_a practice_n and_o feel_v be_v that_o which_o make_v a_o right_a divine_a and_o a_o true_a christian_a in_o deed_n so_o that_o he_o may_v be_v able_a bold_o to_o affirm_v and_o say_v with_o david_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o styppe_v that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thou_o to_o be_v utter_o overthrow_v and_o perish_v but_o the_o flesh_n say_v the_o contrary_a because_o it_o feel_v not_o only_o thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o itself_o also_o to_o be_v tread_v under_o foot_n behold_v the_o son_n of_o god_n what_o he_o suffer_v behold_v john_n baptist_n the_o virgin_n mary_n the_o apostle_n the_o prophet_n what_o they_o suffer_v behold_v the_o church_n at_o this_o day_n what_o danger_n it_o be_v in_o what_o trouble_v and_o affliction_n it_o continual_o suffer_v and_o this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o godly_a upon_o the_o experience_n whereof_o arise_v this_o proverb_n the_o more_o wicked_a the_o more_o happy_a and_o therefore_o the_o world_n fear_v and_o shun_v these_o danger_n can_v never_o abide_v the_o gospel_n and_o thus_o it_o appear_v to_o they_o not_o to_o be_v true_a that_o david_n say_v here_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o rather_o the_o contrary_a that_o he_o cause_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v albeit_o it_o do_v but_o seem_v so_o for_o he_o do_v not_o so_o in_o for_o if_o we_o do_v what_o need_v then_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o word_n what_o need_v exhortation_n what_o need_v the_o promise_n therefore_o we_o must_v turn_v the_o evil_a into_o good_a and_o be_v see_v and_o feel_v but_o such_o as_o will_v not_o believe_v but_o follow_v their_o own_o sense_n and_o feel_v do_v rather_o choose_v the_o glory_n &_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o so_o little_a while_n endure_v and_o so_o sudden_o vanish_v away_o but_o how_o miserable_a shall_v their_o condition_n be_v when_o after_o these_o transitory_a momentane_z and_o vain_a pleasure_n they_o shall_v find_v and_o feel_v nothing_o but_o anguish_n &_o torment_n with_o weep_v &_o wail_v for_o ever_o &_o without_o end_n how_o much_o better_o have_v it_o be_v for_o they_o to_o have_v suffer_v for_o a_o while_n with_o lazarus_n both_o sickness_n and_o poverty_n then_o for_o a_o little_a season_n to_o flourish_v with_o the_o rich_a glutton_n in_o wealth_n and_o prosperity_n &_o with_o he_o to_o be_v torment_v in_o everlasting_a fire_n this_o doctrine_n therefore_o pertain_v to_o those_o which_o desire_v to_o believe_v &_o not_o to_o feel_v that_o they_o may_v discern_v between_o god_n &_o their_o affliction_n not_o fix_v their_o eye_n upon_o the_o present_a calamity_n but_o look_v up_o to_o the_o invisible_a help_n promise_v in_o the_o word_n for_o those_o trouble_n &_o danger_n where_o unto_o the_o faithful_a be_v subject_a do_v in_o deed_n cause_v the_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o yet_o so_o that_o faith_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o fall_v but_o make_v they_o able_a necessary_a that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o comfort_n both_o ourselves_o
and_o our_o brethren_n when_o satan_n begin_v to_o rage_n when_o trouble_n arise_v when_o for_o the_o word_n sake_n we_o be_v hate_v spoil_v persecute_a and_o put_v to_o death_n in_o these_o danger_n whether_o shall_v we_o run_v calamity_n even_o this_o must_v be_v our_o refuge_n to_o say_v and_o confess_v that_o god_n be_v great_a than_o all_o our_o misery_n and_o albeit_o we_o perish_v or_o rather_o seem_v in_o our_o own_o sense_n so_o to_o do_v yet_o god_n perish_v not_o and_o therefore_o we_o must_v assure_o trust_v in_o his_o goodness_n mercy_n and_o power_n and_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o the_o spirit_n must_v be_v exalt_v as_o you_o will_v say_v above_o the_o feel_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o of_o our_o own_o heart_n thus_o they_o that_o will_v not_o do_v let_v they_o follow_v their_o own_o lust_n and_o pleasure_n and_o yet_o let_v they_o be_v sure_a that_o they_o shall_v drink_v up_o the_o dregs_n of_o the_o cup_n whereof_o the_o godly_a drink_n but_o a_o part_n as_o the_o prophet_n say_v 75._o notwithstanding_o many_o time_n the_o godly_a do_v find_v also_o temporal_a help_n and_o deliverance_n for_o god_n do_v not_o so_o neglect_v his_o servant_n that_o he_o will_v leave_v they_o utter_o destitute_a of_o comfort_n in_o this_o life_n david_n be_v drive_v out_o of_o his_o kingdom_n be_v restore_v to_o the_o same_o again_o ezechias_n strike_v with_o a_o the_o same_o now_o as_o the_o godly_a in_o such_o danger_n find_v not_o always_o help_v and_o deliverance_n even_o so_o the_o wicked_a do_v not_o always_o prosper_v but_o even_o in_o this_o life_n be_v horrible_o plague_v for_o their_o impiety_n the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o pope_n have_v flourish_v long_o and_o yet_o we_o see_v that_o much_o of_o his_o power_n wealth_n and_o riches_n be_v diminish_v and_o the_o terrible_a vengeance_n of_o god_n be_v ready_a to_o fall_v upon_o he_o and_o he_o for_o their_o impiety_n our_o nobility_n and_o gentleman_n at_o this_o day_n contemn_v the_o with_o the_o wicked_a in_o this_o world_n but_o in_o the_o lord_n floor_n also_o the_o wheat_n lie_v hide_v under_o the_o chaff_n we_o must_v pray_v therefore_o that_o god_n will_v bring_v these_o hypocrite_n to_o light_n &_o give_v unto_o they_o their_o just_a punishment_n with_o the_o worker_n of_o iniquity_n then_o shall_v peace_n ensue_v to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n for_o while_o the_o particular_a captivity_n for_o what_o great_a matter_n be_v it_o for_o this_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n be_v as_o it_o be_v but_o a_o little_a handful_n to_o be_v deliver_v out_o of_o temporal_a captivity_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o exceed_a and_o incomparable_a deliverance_n whereby_o mankind_n be_v sâ—e_v at_o liberty_n from_o the_o power_n of_o their_o enemy_n not_o temporal_a but_o
