confess_v indeed_o that_o whoredom_n and_o uncleanness_n be_v a_o great_a sin_n but_o consider_v what_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o good_a have_v come_v to_o the_o church_n of_o god_n by_o my_o sin_n that_o three_o such_o great_a light_n have_v be_v bring_v forth_o into_o the_o world_n by_o my_o sin_n non_fw-la valeo_fw-la paenitentiam_fw-la agere_fw-la i_o can_v i_o will_v not_o repent_v &_o thus_o it_o be_v with_o many_o poor_a ignorant_a soul_n when_o they_o see_v how_o the_o lord_n by_o his_o overrule_a hand_n do_v work_v good_a unto_o they_o out_o of_o their_o sin_n as_o some_o outward_a blessing_n &_o mercy_n they_o do_v not_o repent_v of_o their_o sin_n but_o rather_o justify_v themselves_o in_o their_o sin_n but_o now_o take_v a_o godly_a man_n a_o gracious_a soul_n and_o the_o more_o that_o he_o see_v the_o lord_n work_v good_a out_o of_o his_o sin_n the_o more_o he_o be_v humble_v for_o it_o and_o upon_o that_o very_a ground_n because_o god_n work_v good_a of_o it_o therefore_o he_o be_v humble_v the_o more_o yet_o further_o it_o be_v observe_v that_o though_o the_o lord_n do_v ordinary_o call_v david_n his_o servant_n yet_o when_o david_n have_v sin_v that_o great_a sin_n he_o send_v the_o prophet_n to_o he_o say_v go_v say_v to_o david_n he_o have_v lose_v the_o title_n of_o servant_n now_o bare_a david_n now_o single_a david_n now_o david_n without_o the_o title_n my_o servant_n and_o so_o though_o god_n ordinary_o call_v the_o people_n of_o israel_n his_o people_n yet_o when_o they_o have_v commit_v that_o great_a sin_n of_o idolatry_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o golden_a calf_n the_o lord_n do_v not_o call_v they_o his_o people_n but_o he_o say_v to_o moses_n the_o people_n not_o my_o people_n but_o the_o people_n and_o thy_o people_n moses_n now_o they_o have_v lose_v their_o old_a title_n thus_o i_o say_v the_o sin_n of_o god_n own_o people_n do_v deprive_v they_o and_o divest_v they_o of_o their_o spiritual_a privilege_n and_o can_v a_o gracious_a heart_n look_v upon_o this_o and_o consider_v how_o he_o be_v divest_v and_o disrobe_v of_o his_o spiritual_a privilege_n and_o not_o mourn_v under_o it_o can_v one_o friend_n grieve_v another_o friend_n and_o not_o be_v grieve_v himself_o the_o saint_n by_o their_o sin_n they_o grieve_v god_n who_o be_v their_o best_a friend_n and_o therefore_o certain_o they_o must_v needs_o be_v grieve_v they_o must_v needs_o be_v humble_v or_o there_o be_v no_o grace_n not_o grieve_v not_o humble_v not_o gracious_a but_o now_o because_o they_o be_v grieve_v and_o humble_v for_o sin_n commit_v therefore_o they_o be_v not_o discourage_v i_o say_v because_o they_o be_v grieve_v and_o because_o they_o be_v humble_v for_o sin_n commit_v therefore_o they_o be_v not_o discourage_v for_o discouragement_n be_v a_o hindrance_n to_o humiliation_n and_o the_o more_o true_o a_o man_n be_v humble_v for_o sin_n commit_v the_o less_o he_o be_v discourage_v and_o the_o more_o a_o man_n be_v discourage_v the_o less_o he_o be_v true_o humble_v quest_n you_o will_v say_v then_o but_o what_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o these_o a_o man_n be_v to_o be_v humble_v and_o not_o discourage_v not_o discourage_v and_o yet_o to_o be_v humble_v what_o be_v the_o difference_n between_o these_o two_o be_v humble_v and_o be_v discourage_v answ_n it_o be_v a_o profitable_a question_n and_o worth_n our_o time_n by_o way_n of_o answer_n therefore_o thus_o first_o when_o a_o man_n be_v humble_v true_o humble_v the_o object_n of_o his_o grief_n sorrow_n or_o trouble_n be_v sin_n itself_o as_o a_o dishonour_n do_v unto_o god_n the_o object_n of_o discouragement_n be_v a_o man_n own_o condition_n or_o sin_n in_o order_n to_o his_o own_o condition_n the_o ultimate_a object_n of_o discouragement_n be_v a_o man_n own_o condition_n when_o a_o man_n be_v discourage_v you_o shall_v find_v still_o that_o his_o trouble_n run_v all_o out_o upon_o his_o own_o condition_n o_o say_v a_o discourage_v person_n i_o have_v sin_v i_o have_v thus_o sin_v and_o therefore_o my_o condition_n be_v naught_o and_o if_o my_o condition_n be_v naught_o now_o it_o will_v never_o be_v better_o lord_n what_o will_v become_v of_o my_o soul_n still_o his_o trouble_n be_v about_o his_o own_o condition_n but_o when_o a_o man_n be_v grieve_v and_o true_o humble_v for_o sin_n his_o trouble_n be_v about_o sin_n itself_o as_o a_o dishonour_n do_v unto_o god_n to_o clear_a this_o by_o scripture_n you_o know_v cain_n be_v discourage_v but_o cain_n be_v not_o humble_v how_o may_v that_o appear_v cain_n be_v trouble_v about_o his_o condition_n ah_o say_v he_o my_o punishment_n be_v great_a than_o i_o can_v bear_v on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o poor_a prodigal_n be_v humble_v but_o not_o discourage_v how_o may_v that_o appear_v his_o trouble_n be_v about_o his_o sin_n and_o not_o about_o his_o condition_n i_o will_v return_v unto_o my_o father_n say_v he_o and_o i_o will_v say_v unto_o he_o i_o have_v sin_v against_o heaven_n and_o before_o thou_o and_o i_o be_o no_o more_o worthy_a to_o be_v call_v thy_o son_n make_v i_o as_o one_o of_o thy_o hire_a servant_n david_n sometime_o be_v both_o discourage_v and_o humble_v and_o then_o you_o find_v his_o repentance_n and_o humiliation_n to_o be_v very_o brackish_a but_o if_o you_o look_v into_o the_o psal_n 51._o you_o shall_v find_v david_n humble_v but_o not_o discourage_v for_o it_o be_v a_o penitential_a psalm_n therefore_o humble_v and_o not_o discourage_v for_o still_o he_o do_v keep_v his_o assurance_n
