obtain_v pardon_n themselves_o they_o will_v not_o thus_o hinder_v the_o mean_n of_o forgiveness_n of_o the_o sin_n of_o their_o neighbour_n use_v 2_o let_v all_o that_o profess_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n do_v what_o in_o they_o be_v to_o procure_v the_o salvation_n of_o their_o brethren_n pray_v for_o they_o show_v they_o their_o misery_n show_v they_o god_n mercy_n use_v all_o mean_n that_o they_o may_v believe_v and_o as_o for_o such_o as_o do_v believe_v but_o yet_o be_v full_a of_o doubt_n pray_v unto_o god_n that_o he_o will_v say_v to_o their_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v their_o god._n thus_o do_v you_o shall_v honour_n god_n and_o give_v good_a proof_n that_o your_o own_o sin_n be_v pardon_v you_o shall_v show_v love_n to_o your_o neighbour_n and_o you_o shall_v be_v a_o mean_n inseparable_o conjoin_v that_o no_o man_n have_v his_o sin_n forgive_v who_o have_v not_o withal_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o unto_o repentance_n and_o holiness_n of_o life_n here_o in_o this_o life_n god_n have_v not_o only_o require_v holiness_n to_o be_v show_v on_o their_o part_n but_o have_v promise_v as_o well_o to_o write_v his_o law_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n 8.10.12_o heb._n 8.10.12_o as_o to_o be_v merciful_a to_o their_o unrighteousness_n and_o not_o to_o remember_v their_o sin_n 2._o it_o be_v one_o end_n to_o which_o god_n have_v choose_v man_n in_o christ_n to_o be_v holy_a 1.4.5_o eph._n 1.4.5_o and_o without_o blame_n before_o he_o in_o love_n as_o well_o as_o to_o be_v adopt_v child_n by_o christ_n to_o obtain_v everlasting_a life_n 3._o it_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o office_n and_o come_n of_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n and_o of_o the_o merit_n and_o efficacy_n of_o his_o death_n resurrection_n and_o intercession_n not_o only_o that_o believer_n shall_v obtain_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o everlasting_a life_n but_o that_o so_o many_o as_o the_o father_n give_v unto_o he_o may_v believe_v repent_v and_o live_v holy_o and_o righteous_o in_o this_o present_a world_n 2.14_o tit._n 2.14_o he_o purge_v they_o to_o himself_o to_o be_v a_o peculiar_a people_n zealous_a of_o good_a work_n 4._o it_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o scripture_n not_o only_o to_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n that_o through_o consolation_n thereof_o 5.26_o joh._n 15_o 4._o joh._n 17.7_o eph._n 5.26_o believer_n may_v have_v hope_n but_o also_o to_o sanctify_v and_o cleanse_v they_o from_o the_o filthiness_n of_o their_o sin_n that_o they_o may_v be_v holy_a and_o without_o blemish_n 5._o it_o be_v the_o end_n of_o every_o christian_a man_n profession_n and_o calling_n 4.7_o 1._o thess_n 4.7_o not_o only_o to_o believe_v and_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v by_o christ_n but_o also_o to_o be_v holy_a and_o to_o become_v the_o servant_n of_o christ_n 6._o it_o be_v the_o end_n why_o god_n send_v his_o spirit_n into_o their_o heart_n and_o cause_v it_o to_o dwell_v in_o his_o child_n 8.16_o rom_n 8.16_o not_o only_o to_o be_v a_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n to_o witness_v to_o their_o spirit_n that_o they_o be_v god_n child_n but_o also_o to_o be_v a_o spirit_n of_o sanctification_n to_o work_v out_o the_o stony_a heart_n 27._o ezâ—k_n 36.26_o 27._o and_o to_o frame_v in_o they_o a_o new_a heart_n cause_v they_o to_o walk_v in_o his_o statute_n and_o to_o do_v they_o 7._o it_o be_v the_o end_n of_o the_o sacrament_n the_o seal_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n not_o only_o to_o signify_v and_o seal_v remission_n of_o sin_n by_o jesus_n christ_n but_o also_o that_o by_o he_o all_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o be_v ingraft_v into_o the_o similitude_n of_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n 6._o rom._n 6.4_o 5_o 6._o shall_v die_v unto_o sin_n and_o walk_v in_o newness_n of_o life_n these_o thing_n consider_v it_o be_v most_o apparent_a that_o justification_n and_o sanctification_n be_v never_o sever_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o party_n wherefore_o he_o that_o pray_v for_o and_o expect_v to_o be_v justify_v must_v also_o pray_v and_o endeavour_v to_o approve_v himself_o to_o be_v sanctify_v a_o second_o general_a reason_n why_o all_o christian_n shall_v pray_v for_o and_o labour_n after_o heaven_n it_o be_v needful_a that_o the_o faculty_n and_o power_n of_o his_o soul_n be_v so_o full_o rectify_v and_o perfect_v that_o he_o may_v comprehend_v and_o enjoy_v the_o object_n that_o thing_n wherein_o man_n happiness_n do_v consist_v now_o though_o god_n presence_n in_o his_o glory_n and_o in_o his_o goodness_n which_o be_v the_o object_n of_o man_n happiness_n be_v always_o in_o heaven_n yet_o if_o the_o understanding_n the_o will_n and_o the_o affection_n of_o a_o man_n be_v not_o sanctify_v and_o thereby_o make_v capable_a of_o and_o suitable_a to_o the_o object_n what_o content_n and_o joy_n can_v he_o take_v therein_o it_o be_v with_o the_o reasonable_a soul_n in_o the_o apprehension_n of_o intellectual_a and_o spiritual_a thing_n as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o sense_n in_o bodily_a object_n colour_n though_o never_o so_o orient_a and_o various_a yet_o they_o can_v give_v no_o delight_n to_o a_o blind_a or_o ill-affected_a eye_n sound_n though_o never_o so_o melodious_a can_v delight_v a_o deaf_a or_o ill-affected_a ear_n meat_n and_o drink_n though_o never_o so_o well_o relish_v and_o delicious_a can_v delight_v he_o who_o palate_n be_v out_o of_o taste_n nay_o the_o best_a do_v savour_n and_o taste_v ill_a with_o such_o a_o one_o even_o so_o the_o most_o spiritual_a thing_n in_o heaven_n will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o delight_v a_o carnal_a and_o unholy_a man_n that_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o his_o fancy_n very_a foolishness_n and_o they_o will_v be_v to_o he_o a_o very_a vexation_n use_v 1_o it_o be_v therefore_o a_o intolerable_a fault_n for_o a_o man_n to_o profess_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o to_o live_v ungodly_a 23.10_o num._n 23.10_o this_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o too_o many_o who_o desire_v to_o have_v their_o sin_n forgive_v but_o desire_v not_o to_o have_v they_o mortify_v they_o desire_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n like_o curse_a balaam_n when_o they_o die_v but_o endeavour_v not_o to_o be_v holy_a while_o they_o live_v but_o as_o if_o this_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o be_v sinful_a themselves_o many_o do_v make_v a_o jest_n at_o all_o conscionable_a live_n in_o other_o and_o a_o scorn_n of_o all_o that_o endeavour_n to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o yet_o will_v expect_v that_o christ_n shall_v save_v they_o how_o have_v the_o devil_n deceive_v these_o man_n yet_o thousand_o be_v just_o give_v over_o to_o this_o strong_a delusion_n if_o any_o of_o you_o shall_v happen_v to_o cast_v your_o eye_n on_o these_o line_n consider_v the_o doctrine_n in_o hand_n fear_v he_o the_o swearer_n think_v his_o speech_n do_v not_o sound_a well_o and_o be_v without_o all_o grace_n if_o it_o be_v not_o fill_v up_o with_o oath_n the_o covetous_a the_o voluptuous_a the_o vainglorious_a all_o of_o they_o applaud_v themselves_o in_o their_o way_n as_o if_o they_o be_v good_a though_o as_o solomon_n say_v the_o issue_n there_o of_o be_v the_o way_n of_o death_n 14.12_o pro._n 14.12_o it_o stand_v sin_n upon_o that_o the_o devil_n and_o wicked_a man_n shall_v transform_v themselves_o and_o transform_v sin_n and_o put_v some_o goodly_a paint_n upon_o it_o to_o make_v be_v the_o proper_a object_n of_o detestation_n that_o it_o will_v always_o shun_v it_o therefore_o there_o be_v put_v a_o appearance_n of_o good_a upon_o it_o whereby_o it_o may_v deceive_v but_o woe_n be_v unto_o they_o that_o call_v evil_a good_a and_o good_a evil_n that_o put_v darkness_n for_o light_n and_o light_n for_o darkness_n isa_n 5_o 2d_o use_v 2_o do_v christ_n call_v sin_n evil_a for_o ever_o afterward_o use_v 3_o last_o how_o thankful_a shall_v all_o god_n child_n be_v to_o he_o because_o he_o do_v preserve_v and_o deliver_v we_o out_o of_o sin_n out_o of_o the_o great_a evil_n every_o day_n and_o we_o have_v his_o word_n that_o he_o will_v continue_v this_o grace_n until_o we_o shall_v be_v present_v to_o himself_o without_o any_o spot_n of_o this_o evil_a in_o the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n he_o do_v not_o only_o pardon_v we_o and_o free_v we_o from_o the_o guilt_n and_o punishment_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o which_o be_v no_o less_o mercy_n he_o do_v deliver_v we_o from_o the_o power_n of_o sin_n he_o deliver_v we_o from_o evil_a we_o must_v therefore_o magnify_v the_o lord_n and_o say_v who_o be_v a_o god_n like_o thou_o 7.19_o mica_n 7.19_o who_o do_v not_o be_v probable_a that_o when_o our_o saviour_n do_v teach_v his_o disciple_n in_o private_a at_o the_o request_n of_o one_o of_o his_o disciple_n he_o do_v only_o teach_v they_o how_o to_o make_v petition_n but_o when_o he_o teach_v they_o in_o public_a he_o do_v add_v this_o clause_n to_o teach_v they_o as_o well_o how_o to_o praise_v he_o and_o give_v he_o thanks_o as_o to_o pray_v unto_o he_o and_o make_v request_n it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o our_o learning_n that_o any_o one_o evangelist_n have_v record_v it_o in_o this_o clause_n we_o have_v the_o note_n that_o show_v that_o these_o word_n be_v a_o reason_n of_o the_o former_a request_n in_o the_o word_n for_z then_o we_o have_v the_o argument_n or_o ground_n of_o the_o reason_n which_o be_v take_v from_o certain_a respeâ—â—_n in_o god_n which_o do_v minister_v matter_n of_o faith_n assure_v they_o that_o they_o have_v cause_n to_o ask_v and_o expect_v of_o god_n all_o the_o former_a petition_n and_o do_v also_o minister_v matter_n of_o praise_n show_v what_o cause_n there_o be_v why_o all_o glory_n shall_v be_v give_v unto_o he_o these_o respect_n of_o god_n be_v three_o sovereignty_n power_n glory_n which_o be_v set_v forth_o by_o the_o appropriate_a particle_n thou_o whereby_o these_o three_o kingdom_n power_n and_o glory_n be_v ascribe_v as_o proper_a to_o god_n thou_o be_v kingdom_n etc._n etc._n and_o also_o with_o the_o copulative_a and_o conjoin_v the_o two_o latter_a respect_n or_o privilege_n in_o god_n with_o the_o former_a and_o the_o power_n and_o the_o glory_n all_o which_o three_o be_v illustrate_v by_o their_o continuance_n for_o ever_o kingdom_n signify_v god_n absolute_a sovereignty_n over_o all_o thing_n to_o who_o only_o it_o appertain_v of_o right_a to_o forgive_v and_o to_o give_v at_o his_o pleasure_n therefore_o they_o make_v their_o suit_n unto_o he_o power_n signify_v that_o all-sufficiencie_n in_o god_n whereby_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v all_o thing_n according_a to_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o his_o will_n many_o have_v kingdom_n so_o that_o it_o pertain_v to_o they_o to_o help_v their_o subject_n but_o want_v power_n as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n who_o say_v in_o the_o famine_n 2.27_o 2_o kin._n 2.27_o if_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o help_v whence_o shall_v i_o help_v but_o as_o it_o belong_v unto_o god_n to_o hear_v the_o
