the_o church_n 1._o in_o what_o be_v necessary_a as_o to_o the_o essence_n of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o this_o be_v the_o application_n of_o the_o water_n and_o of_o the_o word_n the_o application_n of_o the_o water_n whether_o it_o be_v by_o immersion_n or_o aspersion_n or_o effusion_n the_o application_n of_o the_o word_n that_o the_o immersion_n or_o dip_v the_o aspersion_n or_o sprinkle_n the_o effusion_n or_o pour_v out_o be_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o father_n and_o of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o the_o administration_n then_o of_o baptism_n the_o first_o thing_n necessary_a as_o to_o the_o essence_n of_o the_o sacrament_n be_v the_o application_n of_o the_o water_n and_o this_o in_o a_o outward_a wash_n whether_o that_o wash_a be_v by_o a_o dip_v in_o plunge_v in_o the_o water_n see_v that_o baptism_n do_v equal_o signify_v a_o wash_n by_o sprinkle_v or_o pour_v out_o the_o water_n and_o as_o there_o be_v no_o strength_n of_o argument_n from_o the_o propriety_n of_o the_o word_n so_o nor_o from_o the_o signification_n of_o the_o ceremony_n for_o that_o the_o sprinkle_n and_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o water_n be_v apt_o significative_a of_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o christ_n blood_n and_o the_o pour_v out_o of_o his_o spirit_n the_o very_a inward_a grace_n and_o thing_n signify_v in_o baptism_n whereby_o it_o be_v right_o call_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d we_o certain_o know_v dip_v and_o plunge_v in_o the_o water_n do_v for_o so_o the_o experience_n of_o some_o more_o ignorant_o zealous_a then_o religious_o wise_a have_v late_o assure_v we_o even_o in_o sprinkle_v and_o pour_v out_o of_o the_o water_n then_o upon_o the_o child_n which_o be_v under_o it_o there_o be_v signification_n enough_o of_o christ_n death_n and_o burial_n this_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n intend_v in_o the_o sign_n to_o represent_v the_o actual_a efficacy_n of_o christ_n blood_n and_o spirit_n to_o wash_v away_o our_o guilt_n and_o renew_v we_o again_o to_o righteousness_n thereby_o give_v we_o a_o interest_n in_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o passion_n 6.3.4_o rom._n 6.3.4_o and_o power_n of_o his_o resurrection_n but_o further_a yet_o as_o it_o be_v not_o from_o the_o propriety_n of_o the_o word_n nor_o from_o the_o signification_n of_o the_o ceremony_n so_o nor_o three_o be_v it_o from_o the_o prescript_n of_o christ_n that_o any_o strength_n of_o argument_n can_v be_v draw_v to_o prove_v a_o necessity_n of_o dip_v or_o of_o plunge_v in_o the_o water_n for_o examine_v the_o whole_a of_o what_o concern_v our_o saviour_n institution_n of_o baptism_n and_o we_o shall_v find_v no_o more_o of_o positive_a command_n in_o this_o sacrament_n for_o the_o measure_n of_o water_n or_o manner_n of_o wash_v then_o in_o that_o other_o for_o the_o quantity_n of_o bread_n or_o quality_n of_o wine_n this_o be_v infalilble_a christ_n evangelical_a ordinance_n do_v in_o nothing_o oppose_v his_o moral_a command_n and_o therefore_o the_o ceremony_n
