pride_n and_o ignorance_n but_o of_o unsufferable_a evil_n and_o inevitable_a loss_n how_o often_o have_v there_o be_v cruel_a war_n between_o the_o people_n of_o rome_n how_o many_o nation_n have_v be_v raise_v in_o arm_n how_o much_o blood_n have_v be_v shed_v through_o the_o continual_a dissension_n which_o grow_v between_o the_o noble_a man_n and_o the_o common_a people_n sure_o very_o much_o for_o the_o pride_n of_o noble_a man_n against_o the_o commonalty_n be_v grow_v to_o that_o height_n &_o the_o desire_n which_o they_o have_v to_o increase_v their_o wealth_n by_o the_o occupation_n of_o that_o which_o belong_v unto_o other_o man_n be_v so_o great_a that_o the_o common_a people_n oftentimes_o do_v remain_v in_o more_o safety_n in_o wage_n war_n abroad_o than_o they_o do_v in_o peace_n with_o the_o nobility_n at_o home_n who_o handle_v they_o as_o their_o capital_a enemy_n by_o which_o action_n they_o have_v not_o only_o bring_v the_o common_a people_n of_o rome_n to_o extreme_a poverty_n but_o all_o italy_n whereof_o do_v follow_v civil_a war_n and_o that_o because_o they_o do_v usurp_v both_o the_o good_n and_o land_n of_o the_o commonalty_n whereof_o do_v spring_v the_o law_n agraria_n which_o do_v forbid_v that_o no_o man_n whether_o he_o be_v noble_a or_o of_o the_o common_a sort_n shall_v hold_v more_o land_n than_o a_o pair_n of_o ox_n can_v plow_v in_o five_o hundred_o day_n and_o that_o the_o enemy_n land_n shall_v be_v divide_v among_o the_o people_n which_o law_n do_v so_o displease_v the_o nobility_n that_o they_o conduct_v their_o army_n even_o to_o the_o extreme_a limit_n of_o italy_n and_o tiberius_n gracchus_n succeed_v as_o tribune_n of_o the_o people_n to_o favour_v that_o law_n the_o roman_a liberty_n be_v clean_o overthrow_v for_o thereof_o do_v arise_v such_o great_a hatred_n that_o they_o come_v to_o arm_n and_o to_o blood_n without_o measure_n whereupon_o the_o people_n repose_v themselves_o upon_o marius_n and_o the_o nobility_n upon_o scylla_n who_o after_o most_o cruel_a war_n remain_v conqueror_n and_o the_o same_o disdain_n and_o inward_a enmity_n renew_v between_o the_o nobility_n and_o the_o commonalty_n in_o the_o time_n of_o cesar_n and_o pompey_n the_o one_o make_v himself_o the_o leader_n of_o marius_n his_o side_n the_o other_o take_v part_n with_o scylla_n as_o their_o chief_a conductor_n whereof_o do_v follow_v infinite_a and_o cruel_a slaughter_n cesar_n in_o the_o end_n be_v victorious_a who_o be_v the_o first_o tyrant_n of_o rome_n what_o shall_v i_o say_v of_o the_o bloody_a butchery_n which_o follow_a after_o the_o sudden_a death_n of_o asellius_n praetor_n of_o rome_n who_o be_v set_v in_o that_o authority_n to_o reform_v the_o insatiable_a usury_n which_o be_v so_o increase_v in_o the_o city_n by_o the_o rich_a and_o mighty_a that_o the_o people_n enter_v into_o despair_n and_o with_o great_a fury_n do_v break_v down_o the_o image_n of_o scylla_n and_o of_o pompey_n which_o be_v so_o hateful_a unto_o they_o grievous_a likewise_o be_v the_o dissension_n which_o do_v spring_n in_o the_o famous_a city_n of_o athens_n between_o the_o nobleman_n and_o the_o people_n during_o y_o to_o which_o cassandra_n be_v establish_v by_o the_o nobility_n chief_a of_o the_o faction_n against_o the_o commonalty_n polipercon_n be_v their_o leader_n who_o not_o without_o great_a slaughter_n do_v drive_v cassandra_n into_o macedonia_n so_o that_o the_o people_n as_o conqueror_n remain_v at_o liberty_n whereupon_o they_o do_v condemn_v the_o principal_a person_n of_o the_o contrary_a faction_n to_o death_n and_o do_v banish_v other_o the_o city_n among_o who_o demetrius_n phalerius_n be_v one_o and_o photion_n that_o great_a captain_n of_o they_o who_o albeit_o that_o his_o virtue_n be_v judge_v worthy_a of_o all_o humane_a glory_n and_o praise_n yet_o come_v he_o to_o be_v so_o hateful_a unto_o the_o common_a people_n that_o even_o until_o his_o death_n they_o deny_v he_o burial_n how_o grievous_a the_o hatred_n be_v which_o grow_v by_o wicked_a oppression_n make_v by_o the_o nobility_n against_o the_o commonalty_n they_o only_o do_v know_v who_o have_v make_v trial_n thereof_o that_o which_o happen_v unto_o fabius_n be_v consul_n may_v make_v good_a proof_n hereof_o for_o he_o extreme_o oppress_v the_o people_n have_v in_o such_o sort_n inflame_v their_o grievous_a hatred_n against_o he_o the_o roman_a army_n buckle_v with_o their_o enemy_n and_o hold_v the_o victory_n for_o certain_a and_o undoubted_a the_o soldier_n rather_o resolve_v to_o deprive_v themselves_o of_o the_o victory_n then_o to_o give_v he_o cause_n of_o triumph_n far_o worse_a than_o this_o happen_v to_o appius_n claudius_n a_o capital_a enemy_n of_o the_o people_n for_o he_o hold_v the_o consulship_n in_o the_o war_n against_o the_o volsque_n the_o soldier_n rather_o give_v he_o triumph_v of_o dishonour_n then_o of_o victory_n turn_v their_o back_n to_o their_o enemy_n and_o here_o i_o will_v declare_v unto_o you_o the_o end_n of_o this_o appius_n claudius_n who_o be_v wont_n to_o call_v a_o most_o vile_a prison_n which_o be_v in_o rome_n the_o habitation_n of_o the_o roman_a people_n but_o the_o name_n be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o effect_n for_o by_o the_o appointment_n of_o the_o tribune_n of_o the_o people_n he_o be_v shut_v up_o in_o that_o prison_n among_o thief_n and_o murderer_n and_o there_o put_v to_o death_n but_o why_o do_v i_o speak_v only_o of_o appius_n claudius_n see_v that_o it_o have_v always_o remain_v as_o a_o natural_a and_o hereditary_a instinct_n to_o that_o family_n with_o mortal_a hatred_n to_o pursue_v the_o commons_o so_o that_o the_o chief_a of_o that_o house_n be_v in_o continual_a dissension_n with_o the_o officer_n that_o be_v for_o the_o people_n by_o this_o you_o see_v that_o the_o nobility_n of_o blood_n be_v not_o only_a cause_n of_o pride_n and_o ignorance_n but_o of_o most_o cruel_a slaughter_n and_o mortal_a hatred_n nennio_n gather_v this_o last_o conclusion_n of_o his_o speech_n and_o afterward_o he_o follow_v on_o in_o this_o manner_n the_o nobility_n of_o blood_n most_o worthy_a gentleman_n beside_o the_o calamity_n afore_o speak_v of_o do_v engender_v a_o kind_n of_o envy_n that_o still_o gnaw_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o noble_a man_n for_o they_o see_v some_o among_o the_o common_a sort_n deserve_o advance_v to_o honour_n and_o dignity_n through_o their_o singular_a value_n &_o virtue_n immediate_o there_o arise_v in_o their_o hart_n intolerable_a envy_n which_o do_v eat_v and_o consume_v they_o as_o the_o sun_n do_v the_o snow_n of_o such_o vigour_n be_v the_o envy_n which_o increase_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o roman_a nobility_n when_o as_o they_o see_v gn._n flavius_n who_o father_n be_v a_o libertine_n create_v praetor_n of_o the_o people_n in_o regard_n whereof_o they_o lay_v away_o their_o golden_a ring_n and_o their_o trappings_n of_o their_o horse_n which_o be_v mark_n of_o nobility_n which_o they_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v when_o they_o be_v sad_a and_o sorrowful_a and_o on_o a_o time_n the_o same_o gn._n flavius_n be_v praetor_n go_v to_o visit_v his_o colleague_n who_o be_v sick_a he_o meet_v there_o many_o gentleman_n of_o rome_n among_o the_o which_o one_o of_o they_o in_o regard_n he_o be_v bear_v of_o base_a parentage_n move_v not_o himself_o to_o do_v he_o honour_n as_o praetor_n and_o their_o superior_a whereof_o he_o make_v no_o account_n but_o command_v that_o the_o chair_n wherein_o the_o great_a and_o most_o worthy_a officer_n of_o rome_n be_v carry_v through_o the_o city_n shall_v be_v bring_v unto_o he_o and_o afterwards_o cause_v it_o to_o be_v place_v before_o the_o gate_n of_o the_o palace_n to_o the_o end_n that_o none_o of_o the_o gentleman_n shall_v issue_v forth_o but_o they_o shall_v even_o in_o despite_n see_v he_o set_v in_o that_o chair_n into_o the_o which_o none_o of_o they_o do_v ever_o ascend_v envy_n likewise_o do_v cruel_o afflict_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o roman_a nobility_n when_o as_o they_o see_v ventidius_n bassus_n of_o who_o fabricio_n do_v speak_v yesterday_o of_o a_o base_a hackney_n man_n to_o be_v mount_v to_o the_o dignity_n of_o a_o tribune_n to_o the_o degree_n of_o praetor_n to_o be_v create_v summus_n pontifex_n and_o final_o to_o be_v make_v consul_n in_o such_o sort_n y_fw-mi t_o they_o make_v verse_n upon_o the_o baseness_n of_o his_o birth_n but_o do_v i_o say_v only_o that_o the_o noble_a man_n be_v envious_a over_o the_o common_a people_n when_o as_o it_o do_v with_o great_a vehemency_n find_v place_n even_o among_o themselves_o envy_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o horrible_a war_n which_o do_v grow_v between_o cornel-scilla_n marius_n and_o cinna_n which_o be_v most_o noble_a man_n between_o cesar_n and_o pompey_n who_o be_v patriciens_fw-la of_o rome_n of_o who_o i_o do_v make_v mention_n
and_o sincerity_n of_o spirit_n you_o do_v afterward_o master_n dominico_n follow_v on_o your_o matter_n tell_v we_o the_o manifest_a folly_n of_o herode_fw-la ascalonita_n whereunto_o i_o need_v not_o answer_v any_o thing_n else_o but_o that_o some_o madness_n enter_v into_o his_o mind_n in_o such_o sort_n to_o execute_v his_o foolish_a fantasy_n what_o shall_v i_o say_v unto_o you_o concern_v the_o temeritie_n of_o equitius_n and_o the_o presumption_n of_o other_o alledaged_a by_o you_o who_o be_v descend_v of_o base_a blood_n do_v seek_v to_o ennoble_v themselves_o in_o the_o worthy_a family_n of_o other_o man_n sure_o if_o you_o consider_v their_o end_n you_o shall_v find_v that_o they_o receive_v condign_a punishment_n for_o their_o foolish_a conceit_n some_o of_o they_o be_v banish_v other_o die_v in_o prison_n other_o hang_v as_o a_o recompense_n of_o their_o unaduised_a enterprise_n wherefore_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o set_v their_o folly_n before_o we_o as_o example_n to_o follow_v beside_o they_o seek_v not_o how_o to_o ennoble_v themselves_o as_o you_o affirm_v but_o to_o succeed_v in_o the_o kingdom_n &_o patrimony_n of_o those_o who_o successor_n coulourable_o they_o pretend_v themselves_o to_o be_v but_o why_o do_v you_o not_o bring_v he_o for_o a_o example_n who_o be_v more_o familiar_a with_o god_n than_o any_o other_o mortal_a man_n who_o do_v not_o vaunt_v himself_o that_o he_o be_v descend_v of_o the_o blood_n royal_a but_o do_v deny_v that_o he_o be_v bear_v of_o pharaoh_n his_o daughter_n desire_v rather_o to_o be_v persecute_v as_o one_o of_o the_o people_n of_o god_n then_o to_o take_v upon_o he_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o royal_a blood_n and_o to_o possess_v the_o riches_n of_o egypt_n and_o gordius_n the_o father_n of_o midas_n who_o be_v report_v to_o be_v the_o rich_a king_n that_o ever_o be_v who_o from_o the_o estate_n of_o a_o husbandman_n become_v king_n of_o phrigia_n &_o between_o the_o limit_n of_o the_o lesser_a and_o the_o great_a asia_n build_v a_o city_n call_v gordium_n where_o he_o consecrate_v a_o temple_n to_o jupiter_n in_o the_o which_o not_o be_v ashamed_a of_o his_o obscure_a birth_n neither_o forget_v his_o base_a call_n he_o offer_v the_o plough_n share_v which_o many_o time_n he_o have_v till_v the_o ground_n withal_o and_o the_o harness_n he_o be_v wont_n to_o couple_v his_o ox_n together_o to_o the_o yoke_n to_o the_o end_n that_o in_o all_o age_n it_o may_v be_v manifest_a to_o all_o man_n what_o vocation_n he_o have_v be_v of_o such_o example_n ought_v in_o deed_n to_o be_v recommend_v unto_o we_o &_o not_o those_o recite_v by_o you_o how_o weak_a then_o worthy_a gent._n the_o reason_n be_v that_o possidonio_n yesterday_o with_o many_o word_n set_v forth_o you_o may_v already_o partly_o judge_v as_o i_o will_v better_o approve_v unto_o you_o by_o the_o sequel_n of_o my_o discourse_n forasmuch_o as_o speak_v of_o nobility_n he_o be_v force_v to_o descend_v unto_o virtue_n whence_o true_a and_o perfect_a nobility_n be_v derive_v whereof_o he_o discourse_v i_o know_v not_o what_o but_o he_o make_v such_o large_a flight_n a_n far_o off_o as_o the_o first_o falcon_n do_v yesternight_o about_o the_o pheasant_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o he_o perceive_v that_o the_o clear_a light_n thereof_o do_v overmuch_o blear_v his_o eye_n wherefore_o like_v as_o the_o warrior_n who_o find_v himself_o overmatch_v with_o weapon_n which_o he_o can_v wield_v leave_v they_o to_o take_v other_o which_o he_o may_v manage_v with_o great_a facility_n even_o so_o fall_v it_o out_o yesterday_o with_o possidonio_n for_o have_v arm_v himself_o with_o virtue_n and_o know_v not_o how_o to_o use_v it_o he_o have_v his_o sudden_a recourse_n unto_o riches_n he_o skirmish_v so_o lively_a with_o they_o that_o he_o have_v not_o only_o thereby_o make_v himself_o more_o noble_a than_o i_o be_o but_o then_o any_o other_o man_n likewise_o but_o now_o i_o be_v come_v to_o prove_v what_o force_n those_o weapon_n have_v i_o doubt_v not_o but_o i_o shall_v make_v it_o manifest_a that_o they_o be_v far_o more_o weak_a and_o of_o less_o defence_n than_o the_o other_o he_o ground_v himself_o upon_o two_o proposition_n the_o one_o be_v that_o a_o learned_a and_o virtuous_a man_n have_v no_o nobility_n in_o he_o as_o if_o that_o learning_n serve_v to_o no_o purpose_n to_o make_v a_o man_n noble_a if_o he_o want_v such_o riches_n as_o be_v require_v to_o be_v in_o a_o gentleman_n because_o they_o be_v no_o less_o necessary_a in_o nobility_n then_o blood_n be_v the_o other_o be_v that_o declare_v what_o good_n be_v he_o force_v himself_o to_o prove_v that_o they_o be_v riches_n now_o before_o i_o enter_v into_o the_o first_o proposition_n i_o will_v make_v manifest_a unto_o you_o what_o truth_n be_v in_o the_o last_o to_o the_o end_n you_o afterwards_o may_v with_o more_o ease_n know_v the_o verity_n of_o the_o other_o thou_o will_v then_o possidonio_n have_v riches_n to_o be_v good_n thou_o deceive_v thyself_o great_o for_o if_o they_o be_v good_n they_o will_v cause_v the_o man_n that_o possess_v they_o to_o become_v better_a and_o more_o perfect_a than_o he_o be_v for_o such_o be_v the_o property_n of_o that_o which_o be_v good_a but_o riches_n do_v not_o effect_v this_o for_o if_o these_o certain_a good_n do_v make_v a_o man_n more_o perfect_a we_o must_v of_o necessity_n conclude_v that_o man_n shall_v be_v less_o perfect_a than_o the_o thing_n by_o which_o he_o be_v make_v more_o perfect_a which_o if_o thou_o grant_v for_o true_a it_o shall_v follow_v that_o gold_n silver_n precious_a stone_n tree_n and_o other_o live_a creature_n deprive_v of_o reason_n for_o these_o thing_n and_o such_o like_a be_v riches_n shall_v be_v more_o perfect_a and_o more_o noble_a than_o man_n which_o shall_v be_v too_o great_a a_o folly_n to_o think_v much_o more_o to_o utter_v we_o will_v then_o conclude_v that_o riches_n be_v no_o good_n moreover_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n very_o evident_a that_o of_o a_o good_a thing_n can_v nothing_o follow_v but_o that_o which_o be_v good_a but_o of_o these_o thy_o riches_n what_o good_a may_v ever_o ensue_v nay_o rather_o all_o venomous_a branch_n do_v spring_n from_o that_o root_n they_o be_v not_o then_o good_a but_o the_o cause_n of_o all_o evil_a which_o may_v evident_o be_v see_v by_o the_o unbrideled_a desire_n marcus_n crassus_n do_v bear_v unto_o riches_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o he_o rob_v the_o temple_n of_o jerusalem_n and_o not_o only_o of_o his_o own_o death_n but_o of_o marcus_n his_o son_n and_o y_z e_z ruin_n of_o the_o roman_a armei_n for_o he_o be_v choose_v consul_n by_o the_o roman_n against_o the_o parthian_n and_o conduct_v the_o army_n he_o come_v into_o the_o province_n of_o judea_n and_o be_v at_o jerusalem_n he_o take_v from_o the_o holy_a temple_n of_o solomon_n 8000._o talente_v of_o gold_n and_o take_v away_o a_o golden_a beam_n which_o amount_v to_o the_o weight_n of_o 300._o pound_n to_o the_o which_o the_o precious_a veil_n of_o the_o temple_n shine_v with_o a_o wonderful_a beauty_n and_o incredible_a art_n be_v hang_v and_o to_o be_v short_a he_o take_v all_o the_o ornament_n which_o be_v of_o any_o value_n he_o pass_v with_o this_o pray_v into_o parthia_n be_v more_o bend_v to_o pillage_n &_o to_o heap_v up_o gold_n then_o to_o overcome_v the_o enemy_n in_o the_o end_n be_v drive_v to_o that_o necessity_n that_o with_o small_a ado_n he_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o his_o son_n death_n and_o the_o discomfiture_n of_o the_o army_n the_o roman_n be_v then_o sore_o beat_v and_o villainous_o murder_v by_o that_o people_n his_o own_o head_n &_o his_o right_a hand_n be_v cut_v off_o &_o present_v to_o herod_n king_n of_o the_o parthian_n who_o in_o asmuch_o as_o in_o his_o life_n time_n he_o have_v so_o much_o be_v affect_v to_o the_o love_n of_o gold_n to_o the_o end_n that_o after_o his_o death_n he_o may_v glut_v himself_o therewith_o herod_n cause_v gold_n to_o be_v melt_v &_o pour_v into_o his_o mouth_n likewise_o the_o riches_n of_o ptolemy_n king_n of_o cypress_n be_v cause_n of_o his_o death_n for_o he_o understanding_n that_o the_o roman_n be_v determine_v to_o bring_v his_o kingdom_n into_o the_o form_n of_o a_o province_n &_o take_v possession_n of_o his_o great_a treasor_n he_o think_v to_o drown_v they_o in_o the_o sea_n rather_o than_o they_o shall_v come_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o his_o enemy_n but_o his_o mind_n be_v bury_v in_o his_o treasor_n y_z e_z miserable_a wretch_n can_v not_o endure_v to_o see_v they_o lose_v in_o y_z t_o sort_n but_o rather_o make_v choice_n after_o that_o cato_n portius_n be_v to_o that_o end_n send_v into_o cypress_n by_o the_o senate_n to_o take_v away_o his_o own_o
civil_a war_n many_o matter_n impose_v upon_o he_o of_o no_o small_a importance_n and_o do_v execute_v they_o all_o with_o great_a magnanimity_n and_o great_a admiration_n for_o which_o his_o virtue_n he_o be_v not_o only_o entertain_v into_o cesar_n his_o friendship_n but_o moreover_o have_v great_a office_n bestow_v upon_o he_o be_v first_o make_v tribune_n of_o the_o people_n and_o afterwards_o praetor_n and_o albeit_o that_o in_o that_o time_n he_o be_v with_o m._n antonius_n judge_v a_o enemy_n of_o the_o roman_n by_o y_z e_z senate_n yet_o notwithstanding_o have_v make_v his_o peace_n he_o do_v not_o only_o obtain_v the_o office_n of_o a_o praetor_n but_o he_o attain_v likewise_o the_o degree_n of_o high_a prelate_n and_o afterward_o be_v advance_v to_o the_o dignity_n of_o a_o consul_n this_o be_v that_o ventidius_n who_o be_v by_o m._n antonius_n make_v general_n of_o the_o easte_n province_n put_v the_o parthian_n to_o flight_n which_o be_v descend_v into_o syria_n and_o three_o sundry_a time_n give_v they_o great_a overthrow_n and_o be_v the_o first_o who_o in_o rome_n triumph_v over_o the_o parthian_n and_o after_o his_o death_n be_v honourable_o bury_v by_o the_o roman_n what_o be_v his_o birth_n what_o be_v his_o estate_n what_o be_v his_o riches_n who_o do_v of_o a_o bondslave_n make_v he_o free_a who_o exalt_v he_o to_o so_o great_a nobility_n &_o to_o so_o great_a wealth_n sure_o it_o be_v not_o the_o antiquity_n of_o y_fw-fr e_o blood_n of_o his_o ancestor_n nor_o his_o great_a wealth_n but_o the_o virtue_n of_o his_o mind_n o_o worthy_a virtue_n which_o possess_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n do_v exalt_v they_o even_o to_o the_o sky_n consider_v gentleman_n what_o let_v and_o reproach_n the_o base_a birth_n of_o ventidius_n be_v unto_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o nobility_n consider_v i_o pray_v you_o if_o his_o issue_n from_o so_o mean_v a_o place_n be_v any_o hindrance_n unto_o he_o to_o rise_v to_o so_o high_a honour_n and_o believe_v not_o possidonio_n that_o at_o this_o day_n there_o be_v any_o limit_a end_n set_v by_o which_o a_o man_n may_v become_v noble_a for_o even_o as_o the_o noble_a family_n which_o at_o this_o day_n be_v in_o the_o world_n have_v have_v a_o beginning_n to_o make_v they_o noble_a so_o may_v the_o ignoble_a without_o any_o let_v attain_v thereunto_o i_o may_v then_o conclude_v that_o the_o baseness_n of_o my_o blood_n nor_o the_o want_n of_o wealth_n be_v no_o let_v nor_o hindrance_n unto_o i_o to_o become_v noble_a the_o worthiness_n and_o virtue_n of_o man_n be_v that_o which_o make_v he_o noble_a it_o make_v he_o rich_a it_o exalt_v he_o unto_o the_o sky_n and_o final_o of_o a_o bond_n man_n it_o set_v he_o free_a wherefore_o possidonio_n i_o need_v not_o fear_v though_o my_o ancestor_n as_o thou_o do_v yesterday_o affirm_v be_v scarce_o know_v because_o i_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o that_o virtue_n and_o learning_n whatsoever_o it_o be_v that_o be_v in_o i_o be_v of_o force_n sufficient_a to_o make_v those_o noble_a who_o shall_v hereafter_o issue_v from_o i_o if_o so_o it_o be_v to_o be_v believe_v that_o any_o nobility_n reside_v in_o blood_n do_v it_o now_o seem_v unto_o thou_o that_o i_o have_v with_o my_o sophistical_a argument_n show_v white_a for_o black_a whereof_o thou_o be_v so_o much_o afraid_a or_o make_v thou_o understand_v the_o very_a troth_n itself_o and_o to_o the_o end_n i_o may_v more_o strong_o persuade_v thou_o thou_o must_v know_v this_o that_o he_o be_v far_o more_o noble_a who_o be_v bear_v of_o base_a parentage_n have_v beautify_v his_o mind_n with_o virtue_n and_o good_a condition_n than_o he_o that_o be_v descend_v of_o a_o noble_a stock_n be_v as_o well_o qualify_v as_o the_o other_o this_o perhaps_o may_v seem_v strange_a unto_o thou_o possidonia_n yet_o will_v i_o make_v it_o very_o plain_a for_o no_o man_n will_v deny_v of_o any_o thing_n whatsoever_o but_o the_o reward_n ought_v to_o countervail_v the_o pain_n that_o be_v take_v now_o he_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o base_a parentage_n take_v far_o more_o labour_n to_o become_v noble_a than_o he_o that_o be_v descend_v of_o noble_a blood_n therefore_o he_o ought_v to_o receive_v a_o great_a recompense_n that_o his_o labour_n be_v great_a can_v be_v deny_v for_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o noble_a blood_n be_v always_o in_o the_o path_n to_o become_v noble_a and_o be_v not_o put_v to_o that_o pain_n to_o attain_v to_o the_o perfection_n of_o nobility_n as_o he_o be_v who_o be_v bear_v of_o no_o noble_a stock_n in_o asmuch_o as_o the_o one_o find_v the_o way_n open_a and_o free_a whereas_o the_o other_o find_v it_o full_a of_o rock_n and_o thorn_n now_o both_o of_o they_o have_v attain_v thereunto_o who_o will_v deny_v i_o but_o that_o his_o nobility_n ought_v to_o be_v more_o esteem_v who_o father_n be_v but_o a_o mean_a man_n than_o the_o other_o sure_o not_o any_o man_n be_v these_o fable_n possidonio_n do_v it_o as_o yet_o seem_v strange_a unto_o thou_o i_o hope_v not_o howbeit_o i_o will_v proceed_v further_o and_o say_v that_o he_o ought_v to_o be_v more_o worthy_a of_o praise_n who_o give_v himself_o unto_o all_o worthy_a enterprise_n not_o be_v force_v nor_o constrain_v by_o any_o man_n than_o he_o that_o addict_v himself_o unto_o such_o laudable_a action_n by_o force_n and_o compulsion_n now_o he_o that_o be_v by_o blood_n noble_a be_v rather_o force_v then_o otherwise_o by_o his_o own_o virtue_n to_o set_v forth_o his_o nobility_n lest_o that_o his_o father_n nobility_n do_v base_o take_v end_n in_o himself_o but_o rather_o that_o by_o he_o it_o may_v be_v maintain_v and_o conserve_v in_o his_o successor_n whereas_o he_o which_o be_v bear_v of_o no_o noble_a stock_n be_v far_o more_o noble_a and_o far_o more_o worthy_a of_o praise_n than_o he_o which_o be_v bear_v a_o gent._n although_o both_o of_o they_o be_v equal_a in_o virtue_n have_v thou_o capacity_n to_o comprehend_v this_o reason_n possidonio_n thou_o may_v now_o consider_v if_o i_o use_v any_o sophistry_n as_o thou_o do_v doubt_v i_o will_v for_o sure_o these_o be_v most_o manifest_a reason_n which_o i_o allege_v for_o the_o troth_n the_o which_o notwithstanding_o be_v manifest_a and_o clear_a of_o itself_o fabricio_n go_v still_o forward_o in_o his_o discourse_n when_o as_o m._n peter_n anthony_n interrupt_v he_o &_o turn_v towards_o he_o say_v this_o thy_o conclusion_n shall_v be_v very_o great_a fabricio_n if_o it_o be_v as_o true_a as_o it_o be_v apparent_a and_o as_o it_o seem_v thou_o do_v affirm_v it_o for_o troth_n for_o somuch_o as_o that_o part_n be_v always_o of_o most_o force_n and_o strong_a which_o can_v be_v deny_v where_o two_o reason_n do_v concur_v together_o then_o where_o there_o be_v but_o one_o now_o he_o that_o be_v of_o noble_a blood_n &_o ennoble_v by_o his_o virtue_n have_v in_o he_o two_o sort_n of_o nobility_n the_o one_o of_o blood_n the_o other_o proceed_v of_o virtue_n which_o can_v be_v in_o he_o who_o father_n be_v no_o noble_a man_n albeit_o he_o be_v esteem_v equal_a in_o virtue_n unto_o the_o other_o wherefore_o his_o nobility_n shall_v not_o be_v so_o puissant_a and_o mighty_a which_o thou_o thyself_o do_v affirm_v for_o true_a when_o as_o to_o dissolve_v this_o argument_n if_o my_o memory_n serve_v i_o well_o where_o possidonio_n go_v about_o to_o prove_v that_o the_o magnificence_n and_o glory_n of_o a_o man_n aught_o by_o reason_n to_o extend_v itself_o unto_o his_o successor_n thou_o do_v confess_v that_o if_o you_o be_v both_o equal_a in_o virtue_n possidonio_n his_o nobility_n shall_v be_v great_a than_o thou_o whereas_o contrary_o in_o this_o thy_o new_a conclusion_n thou_o do_v not_o only_o make_v they_o equal_a but_o the_o one_o in_o a_o high_a degree_n than_o the_o other_o wherefore_o we_o ought_v to_o conclude_v that_o he_o that_o be_v bear_v of_o noble_a parent_n be_v far_o more_o noble_a and_o likewise_o i_o can_v easy_o gather_v how_o this_o thy_o last_o reason_n do_v well_o hang_v together_o by_o which_o thou_o will_v prove_v that_o he_o be_v worthy_a of_o great_a honour_n who_o without_o any_o necessity_n do_v employ_v himself_o in_o virtuous_a action_n than_o he_o that_o be_v force_v thereunto_o for_o this_o thy_o maxim_n be_v true_a that_o of_o every_o worthy_a enterprise_n a_o man_n recompense_n ought_v to_o be_v so_o much_o the_o great_a as_o the_o detriment_n &_o hurt_n which_o may_v come_v unto_o he_o in_o execute_v thereof_o now_o who_o so_o be_v bear_v of_o noble_a blood_n be_v worthy_o great_a blame_n &_o dishonour_n when_o he_o do_v not_o maintain_v the_o nobility_n of_o his_o fore_a father_n than_o the_o ignoble_a by_o birth_n therefore_o in_o conserve_n it_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v great_a reward_n by_o
