ransom_n but_o above_o all_o when_o as_o he_o come_v to_o wrestle_v with_o the_o wrath_n of_o his_o father_n he_o do_v therein_o exceed_v all_o the_o rest_n of_o his_o suffering_n it_o be_v much_o indeed_o for_o the_o son_n of_o god_n to_o make_v himself_o a_o servant_n but_o when_o he_o that_o be_v the_o son_n of_o the_o eternal_a god_n and_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o godhead_n equal_a with_o the_o father_n shall_v now_o stand_v to_o wrestle_v with_o the_o unsupportable_a wrath_n of_o god_n and_o to_o cry_v out_o my_o soul_n be_v in_o a_o agony_n unto_o the_o very_a death_n and_o through_o anguish_n thereof_o to_o sweat_v drop_n of_o blood_n and_o though_o his_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v seem_v to_o recoil_v so_o that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a he_o desire_v the_o cup_n may_v pass_v from_o he_o yet_o he_o be_v carry_v before_o pontius_n pilate_n and_o be_v there_o condemn_v and_o afterward_o suffer_v the_o death_n of_o the_o cross_n this_o be_v the_o chief_a part_n of_o the_o ransom_n which_o the_o lord_n do_v intend_v to_o pay_v to_o the_o justice_n of_o his_o father_n wherein_o he_o do_v also_o undergo_v the_o very_a pang_n of_o hell_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o so_o give_v himself_o a_o ransom_n for_o we_o and_o have_v not_o all_o this_o be_v we_o shall_v never_o have_v be_v redeem_v from_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n thus_o therefore_o do_v the_o lord_n give_v himself_o in_o take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o give_v himself_o unto_o a_o state_n of_o bondage_n from_o a_o state_n of_o liberty_n to_o redeem_v we_o unto_o liberty_n from_o a_o state_n of_o bondage_n under_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n even_o unto_o liberty_n from_o sin_n and_o death_n and_o satan_n and_o this_o world_n and_o from_o the_o indignation_n of_o the_o most_o high_a a_o wonderful_a deliverance_n but_o as_o it_o be_v in_o all_o other_o liberty_n so_o this_o christian_a liberty_n do_v stand_v in_o two_o thing_n first_o as_o in_o remove_v some_o bondage_n and_o burden_n second_o so_o it_o carry_v with_o it_o some_o such_o privilege_n and_o enfranchisement_n as_o whereby_o i_o claim_v some_o liberty_n which_o other_o can_v reach_v unto_o and_o those_o the_o lord_n jesus_n have_v dear_o pay_v for_o by_o suffer_v his_o father_n wrath_n which_o do_v so_o drink_v up_o his_o spirit_n that_o i_o believe_v he_o die_v not_o by_o the_o pain_n of_o his_o body_n for_o he_o die_v before_o his_o time_n but_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n do_v swallow_v he_o up_o principal_o though_o his_o bodily_a pain_n do_v help_v it_o forward_o now_o by_o this_o mean_v we_o have_v access_n unto_o the_o lord_n and_o into_o this_o grace_n wherein_o we_o stand_v rom._n 5.2_o and_o that_o with_o boldness_n and_o confidence_n ephes_n 2.12_o even_o to_o enter_v with_o boldness_n into_o the_o holy_a by_o the_o blood_n of_o jesus_n hob._n 10.19_o hereby_o we_o have_v liberty_n to_o call_v god_n father_n and_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o as_o to_o a_o father_n and_o to_o expect_v all_o blessing_n from_o he_o for_o this_o life_n and_o for_o a_o better_a both_o wisdom_n righteousness_n sanctification_n and_o redemption_n from_o all_o misery_n and_o danger_n even_o from_o death_n to_o life_n even_o life_n eternal_a beside_o all_o blessing_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n here_o below_o all_o church-priviledge_n and_o commonwealth-priviledge_n have_v the_o lord_n purchase_v for_o we_o by_o his_o blood_n great_a and_o large_a be_v the_o liberty_n which_o the_o lord_n have_v purchase_v for_o we_o that_o be_v record_v every_o where_n in_o scripture_n so_o that_o if_o the_o son_n shall_v make_v you_o free_a then_o be_v you_o free_a indeed_o 2._o now_o for_o the_o second_o work_n of_o the_o son_n in_o this_o everlasting_a covenant_n presuppose_v the_o lord_n god_n the_o father_n to_o have_v draw_v the_o soul_n unto_o the_o son_n from_o all_o confidence_n in_o the_o world_n and_o in_o his_o own_o righteousness_n and_o in_o his_o own_o returning_n unto_o god_n by_o believe_v through_o his_o own_o power_n from_o confidence_n in_o his_o own_o resolution_n and_o his_o own_o wait_v upon_o christ_n and_o from_o all_o confidence_n in_o privilege_n and_o power_n of_o nature_n and_o grace_v receive_v now_o it_o may_v be_v all_o this_o while_n the_o poor_a soul_n know_v not_o who_o it_o be_v that_o have_v wrought_v all_o this_o work_n in_o he_o and_o for_o he_o and_o it_o may_v be_v he_o be_v so_o far_o to_o seek_v in_o this_o as_o that_o he_o know_v not_o whether_o it_o be_v the_o lord_n god_n the_o father_n or_o the_o
son_n and_o that_o he_o will_v adorn_v he_o with_o his_o grace_n as_o a_o bride_n of_o jesus_n christ_n thus_o while_o the_o soul_n look_v towards_o jesus_n christ_n and_o grace_n in_o he_o the_o lord_n do_v secret_o transform_v he_o into_o the_o image_n of_o christ_n by_o work_v such_o qualification_n in_o he_o and_o then_o bear_v witness_n to_o that_o sanctification_n which_o be_v wrought_v in_o his_o heart_n thereby_o enlarge_n his_o soul_n with_o strong_a consolation_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o in_o the_o same_o way_n it_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v strengthen_v the_o faith_n of_o his_o people_n to_o believe_v that_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o god_n have_v promise_v be_v accomplish_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o law_n fulfil_v in_o i_o so_o far_o as_o christ_n be_v in_o i_o and_o therefore_o i_o come_v unto_o god_n in_o prayer_n to_o make_v good_a those_o promise_n unto_o i_o in_o a_o right_a way_n which_o will_v have_v be_v preposterous_o apply_v before_o christ_n be_v give_v and_o this_o may_v serve_v for_o answer_v unto_o this_o five_o question_n we_o come_v now_o unto_o a_o six_o question_n quest_n 6_o if_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v himself_o first_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o grace_n this_o may_v then_o be_v a_o doubt_n and_o a_o question_n in_o a_o christian_a soul_n if_o god_n give_v himself_o before_o any_o blessing_n before_o any_o promise_n in_o order_n of_o nature_n though_o he_o give_v himself_o always_o in_o a_o promise_n or_o in_o a_o word_n that_o be_v equivalent_a to_o a_o promise_n as_o cant._n 5.9_o 16._o ch_z 6.1_o if_o we_o can_v claim_v any_o blessing_n from_o god_n at_o the_o first_o in_o any_o conditional_a promise_n therefore_o not_o by_o any_o condition_n in_o ourselves_o but_o as_o we_o receive_v all_o thing_n from_o god_n so_o we_o claim_v all_o thing_n from_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o do_v first_o seek_v for_o he_o and_o for_o all_o thing_n in_o he_o if_o thus_o to_o what_o use_n then_o serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n which_o require_v such_o and_o such_o condition_n in_o we_o do_v we_o not_o abrogate_v the_o law_n and_o make_v it_o of_o none_o effect_n and_o root_v it_o out_o from_o have_v any_o power_n over_o christian_n and_o true_o some_o under_o pretence_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n have_v think_v it_o altogether_o bootless_a to_o bind_v christian_n unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o to_o look_v at_o it_o as_o any_o part_n of_o the_o direction_n of_o their_o course_n because_o this_o be_v a_o imputation_n usual_o reflect_v upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n let_v we_o consider_v therefore_o and_o inquire_v to_o what_o use_n serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n if_o god_n give_v himself_o first_o unto_o his_o people_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o grace_n though_o the_o lord_n give_v himself_o free_o to_o the_o soul_n answ_n and_o his_o son_n and_o all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n without_o respect_n unto_o any_o work_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o the_o law_n be_v of_o special_a and_o notable_a use_n unto_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n both_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v not_o yet_o bring_v home_o unto_o god_n by_o convert_v grace_n and_o also_o to_o those_o that_o be_v regenerate_v in_o jesus_n christ_n the_o apostle_n paul_n do_v observe_v that_o the_o question_n will_v arise_v upon_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n gal._n 3.16_o 17_o 18._o for_o if_o the_o blessing_n of_o abraham_n come_v upon_o the_o people_n of_o god_n by_o jesus_n christ_n to_o what_o end_n then_o serve_v the_o law_n which_o come_v 430_o after_o it_o can_v disannul_v to_o make_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n of_o none_o effect_v to_o what_o end_n then_o serve_v it_o some_o say_v it_o be_v of_o no_o use_n other_o say_v that_o it_o be_v of_o such_o use_n that_o they_o have_v rather_o renounce_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n than_o it_o but_o the_o answer_n be_v it_o be_v of_o especial_a use_n both_o unto_o spiritual_a and_o carnal_a man_n first_o unto_o carnal_a man_n and_o they_o be_v of_o two_o sort_n some_o belong_v unto_o the_o election_n of_o grace_n though_o they_o he_o not_o yet_o call_v other_o be_v not_o write_v in_o the_o lamb_n book_n of_o life_n but_o will_v in_o the_o end_n final_o perish_v and_o yet_o the_o law_n be_v of_o use_n unto_o both_o sort_n of_o they_o 1._o for_o those_o that_o be_v the_o elect_a of_o god_n it_o be_v of_o use_n unto_o they_o to_o aggravate_v their_o sin_n and_o to_o multiply_v it_o unto_o they_o as_o it_o be_v that_o be_v to_o say_v to_o aggravate_v the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o heinousness_n of_o sin_n upon_o their_o conscience_n and_o to_o set_v home_o the_o burden_n of_o their_o sin_n unto_o their_o soul_n thereby_o to_o drive_v they_o to_o feel_v their_o great_a need_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n who_o otherwise_o they_o shall_v for_o ever_o have_v despise_v thus_o the_o apostle_n answer_v in_o the_o place_n forename_a the_o law_n be_v add_v because_o of_o transgression_n that_o they_o may_v clear_o appear_v and_o be_v aggravate_v thereby_o that_o a_o man_n may_v plain_o discern_v how_o be_v have_v make_v himself_o liable_a unto_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n by_o so_o manifold_a breach_n of_o so_o many_o commandment_n in_o one_o kind_a or_o other_o the_o law_n give_v clear_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o much_o the_o soul_n through_o fear_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n not_o that_o it_o do_v reveal_v christ_n a_o saviour_n and_o redeemer_n of_o free_a grace_n but_o the_o soul_n be_v once_o bring_v down_o under_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n by_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n will_v ready_o and_o diligent_o hearken_v unto_o the_o news_n of_o christ_n a_o saviour_n for_o be_v once_o make_v sensible_a of_o his_o own_o inability_n to_o redeem_v himself_o and_o unworthiness_n to_o be_v redeem_v from_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n now_o be_v the_o soul_n fit_v to_o hear_v the_o voice_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o be_v the_o news_n of_o jesus_n christ_n beautiful_a and_o glad_a tiding_n and_o of_o this_o use_n be_v the_o law_n unto_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n before_o they_o come_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n 2._o but_o of_o what_o use_n be_v the_o law_n unto_o other_o man_n answ_n first_o in_o regard_n of_o disobedience_n it_o be_v of_o use_n unto_o they_o and_o 2._o the_o obedience_n to_o it_o be_v of_o use_n 1._o in_o regard_n of_o disobedience_n for_o if_o man_n have_v not_o know_v sin_n it_o have_v be_v some_o pretence_n though_o they_o have_v commit_v sin_n but_o when_o man_n have_v the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n and_o yet_o commit_v sin_n willing_o now_o they_o have_v no_o cloak_n for_o their_o sin_n rom._n 1._o vers_fw-la 21._o compare_v with_o 32._o where_o the_o wickedness_n but_o bless_v himself_o in_o it_o this_o aggravate_v a_o man_n condemnation_n if_o man_n will_v not_o come_v unto_o jesus_n christ_n that_o they_o may_v have_v life_n joh._n 5.40_o what_o have_v it_o they_o dare_v not_o trust_v in_o their_o best_a gift_n for_o the_o least_o duty_n neither_o do_v they_o look_v for_o their_o faith_n from_o their_o best_a gift_n but_o they_o expect_v
