in_o the_o same_o that_o when_o the_o day_n come_v they_o may_v finish_v the_o race_n without_o stay_n or_o stop_v even_o so_o we_o who_o whether_o we_o will_v or_o no_o must_v measure_v and_o pass_v the_o race_n of_o death_n shall_v do_v very_o well_o if_o now_o in_o our_o mind_n and_o memory_n we_o frame_v this_o race_n and_o do_v diligent_o consider_v all_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v in_o the_o same_o especial_o see_v the_o way_n be_v most_o obscure_a full_a of_o sundry_a impediment_n and_o so_o perilous_a that_o there_o be_v very_o few_o which_o finish_v the_o same_o happy_o they_o who_o slip_n and_o stumble_v in_o it_o shall_v never_o more_o find_v any_o hope_n of_o salvation_n therefore_o that_o we_o may_v begin_v where_o this_o most_o bloody_a battle_n have_v his_o original_n we_o ought_v diligent_o to_o consider_v the_o same_o namely_o that_o then_o death_n do_v especial_o come_v when_o man_n do_v least_o think_v of_o it_o hereupon_o the_o apostle_n paul_n say_v the_o day_n of_o the_o lord_n shall_v come_v as_o a_o thief_n in_o the_o night_n and_o in_o the_o apocalyps_n behold_v i_o come_v as_o a_o thief_n now_o thief_n have_v this_o property_n that_o they_o be_v the_o high_a â—â—one_n of_o their_o age_n when_o â—hey_n think_v that_o they_o have_v â—et_v many_o year_n to_o live_v when_o their_o mind_n be_v occupy_v â—bout_o their_o gain_n about_o â—heir_a affair_n about_o their_o honour's_n building_n marriage_n and_o pleasure_n when_o they_o say_v â—nto_o their_o soul_n soul_n thou_o â—ast_v much_o good_n lay_v up_o in_o store_n for_o thou_o for_o many_o year_n â—ate_z drink_v rest_n and_o be_v mercy_n than_o it_o shall_v sudden_o be_v say_v to_o they_o behold_v death_n be_v at_o the_o door_n thou_o fool_n this_o night_n shall_v thy_o life_n be_v take_v away_o from_o thou_o and_o who_o be_v then_o those_o thing_n which_o thou_o have_v get_v then_o death_n unlooked_v for_o frustrate_v all_o our_o counsel_n cut_v off_o the_o web_n of_o our_o device_n and_o with_o one_o stroke_n he_o cast_v down_o and_o lay_v flat_a on_o the_o ground_n all_o those_o tower_n which_o be_v build_v in_o the_o air_n what_o a_o wound_n do_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o sinner_n which_o love_v this_o present_a life_n receive_v when_o the_o physician_n say_v unto_o he_o thou_o must_v from_o henceforth_o think_v no_o more_o of_o lifâ—_n but_o of_o death_n first_o of_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o he_o love_v in_o time_n past_a offer_v themselves_o unto_o he_o from_o the_o which_o he_o shall_v be_v pull_v away_o and_o separate_v by_o death_n whether_o he_o will_v or_o no._n the_o body_n shall_v die_v but_o once_o but_o the_o heart_n shall_v die_v so_o often_o as_o the_o thing_n be_v in_o number_n which_o he_o love_v then_o in_o very_a deed_n shall_v the_o most_o clear_a light_n be_v turn_v into_o darkness_n because_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v aforetime_o occasion_n of_o great_a joy_n shall_v be_v now_o horrible_a vexation_n and_o torment_n it_o be_v a_o most_o sweet_a and_o pleasant_a thing_n to_o they_o which_o live_v to_o see_v their_o love_a and_o faithful_a friend_n to_o remember_v their_o honour_n to_o think_v upon_o a_o hard_a matter_n to_o be_v pass_v away_o from_o those_o thing_n which_o do_v not_o so_o near_o touch_v man_n how_o bitter_a i_o pray_v you_o will_v the_o separation_n be_v of_o soul_n &_o body_n two_o such_o kind_n love_v familiar_n who_o have_v always_o live_v sweet_o together_o even_o from_o the_o mother_n womb_n sure_o they_o can_v be_v separate_v without_o great_a grief_n if_o the_o ox_n do_v common_o low_a and_o mourn_v when_o his_o yoke-fellow_n which_o be_v wont_a to_o draw_v with_o he_o be_v take_v away_o how_o will_v every_o one_o of_o we_o mourn_v when_o the_o soul_n shall_v be_v separate_v from_o the_o body_n then_o will_v they_o with_o tear_n repeat_v their_o sin_n again_o and_o again_o and_o cry_v out_o o_o death_n bitter_a death_n do_v thou_o 〈◊〉_d separate_v we_o and_o when_o the_o cogitation_n of_o so_o sharp_a a_o separation_n be_v deep_o settle_v in_o our_o mind_n than_o grief_n follow_v grief_n and_o sorrow_n come_v upon_o sorrow_n for_o than_o it_o come_v present_o to_o mind_n what_o a_o miserable_a condition_n the_o body_n and_o soul_n shall_v be_v in_o after_o the_o separation_n when_o a_o man_n begin_v to_o recount_v with_o himself_o that_o his_o body_n after_o a_o few_o hour_n shall_v be_v bury_v in_o a_o grave_n or_o dark_a tomb_n he_o can_v cease_v from_o wonder_v at_o so_o abject_a and_o miserable_a a_o condition_n what_o the_o body_n that_o now_o live_v which_o see_v hear_v speak_v shall_v â—it_n be_v make_v after_o one_o hour_n in_o a_o moment_n blind_a deaf_a dumb_a without_o spirit_n without_o life_n it_o shall_v have_v then_o in_o stead_n of_o a_o large_a palace_n a_o base_a sepulchre_n in_o stead_n of_o a_o soft_a bed_n the_o hard_a ground_n for_o delight_n rottenness_n for_o sweet_a smell_n stink_v and_o in_o stead_n of_o servant_n and_o familiar_a friend_n worm_n and_o thus_o this_o cogitation_n of_o the_o grave_n will_v very_o sore_a trouble_n and_o terrify_v a_o man_n in_o these_o extremity_n yet_o notwithstanding_o every_o man_n fear_v much_o more_o when_o he_o begin_v to_o consider_v what_o condition_n remain_v for_o the_o soul_n when_o man_n behold_v that_o eternity_n and_o that_o new_a region_n unknown_a to_o all_o man_n live_v which_o he_o then_o alone_o naked_a be_v to_o enter_v and_o when_o he_o understand_v that_o there_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o the_o same_o both_o everlasting_a glory_n and_o perpetual_a pain_n and_o misery_n and_o know_v not_o of_o which_o he_o shall_v take_v his_o part_n it_o can_v be_v tell_v with_o how_o great_a fear_n with_o what_o carefulness_n and_o with_o what_o exceed_v sorrow_n he_o shall_v be_v torment_v when_o he_o perceive_v plain_o that_o after_o two_o hour_n he_o shall_v be_v either_o in_o eternal_a joy_n or_o in_o everlasting_a pain_n be_v not_o this_o a_o cross_n very_o heavy_a surpass_v all_o other_o cross_n this_o uncertainty_n of_o a_o bless_a or_o curse_a estate_n which_o after_o a_o small_a time_n the_o sinner_n expect_v the_o remembrance_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o fear_n of_o the_o just_a judgement_n of_o god_n without_o hope_n of_o remission_n or_o faith_n in_o christ_n be_v a_o hell_n to_o the_o mind_n not_o to_o be_v express_v for_o by_o how_o much_o the_o kingdom_n which_o he_o desire_v be_v of_o largeness_n and_o by_o how_o much_o the_o fiery_a furnace_n which_o he_o fear_v be_v terrible_a by_o so_o much_o the_o great_a shall_v this_o perturbation_n be_v consider_v also_o that_o angel_n shall_v come_v to_o carry_v the_o faithful_a up_o into_o heaven_n and_o infernal_a spirit_n to_o carry_v the_o wicked_a and_o infidel_n into_o hell_n but_o there_o be_v yet_o a_o far_o great_a perturbation_n than_o this_o namely_o that_o he_o shall_v call_v to_o mind_v the_o account_n which_o he_o be_v to_o make_v to_o god_n of_o all_o his_o word_n deed_n and_o thought_n for_o of_o itself_o 〈◊〉_d be_v a_o horrible_a thing_n to_o think_v upon_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n the_o which_o horror_n will_v wonderful_o and_o extreme_o vex_v &_o disquiet_v the_o devil_n themselves_o for_o as_o so_o long_o as_o we_o live_v they_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n and_o do_v also_o commend_v the_o same_o and_o do_v strive_v all_o that_o they_o can_v to_o keep_v we_o from_o meditate_v of_o his_o justice_n &_o judgement_n even_o so_o now_o on_o the_o contrary_a they_o extenuate_v and_o make_v his_o mercy_n insufficient_a and_o do_v set_v before_o our_o eye_n the_o greatness_n and_o severity_n of_o the_o lord_n justice_n then_o will_v the_o sinner_n begin_v to_o tremble_v and_o fall_v into_o desperation_n and_o will_v begin_v to_o reason_n thus_o with_o himself_o if_o god_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o other_o spare_v not_o his_o only_a son_n will_v he_o spare_v i_o which_o be_o guilty_a of_o so_o many_o sin_n if_o this_o be_v do_v in_o the_o green_a tree_n what_o shall_v befall_v that_o which_o be_v sere_a and_o dry_a if_o the_o prophet_n if_o the_o apostle_n if_o the_o martyr_n after_o they_o live_v godly_a so_o many_o year_n enter_v not_o into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n without_o tribulation_n what_o other_o place_n can_v be_v leave_v for_o i_o but_o that_o of_o hell_n fire_n which_o know_v no_o good_a that_o i_o have_v do_v if_o the_o scripture_n be_v true_a which_o say_v he_o will_v render_v to_o every_o man_n according_a to_o his_o work_n what_o shall_v i_o which_o have_v do_v so_o many_o horrible_a and_o great_a wickedness_n look_v for_o but_o eternal_a torment_n if_o that_o of_o the_o apostle_n be_v true_a as_o in_o deed_n it_o be_v when_o he_o say_v that_o which_o a_o man_n sow_v that_o shall_v he_o reap_v what_o shall_v he_o reap_v but_o eternal_a death_n which_o have_v make_v so_o curse_v a_o so_o wing_n iâ—_n entrance_n then_o all_o his_o sin_n which_o he_o commit_v with_o so_o great_a desire_n and_o facility_n when_o he_o live_v shall_v violent_o invade_v the_o sinful_a man_n like_o a_o host_n of_o enemy_n then_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n will_v open_v the_o eye_n which_o sleep_v security_n in_o sin_n before_o have_v shut_v then_o ambition_n pride_n theft_n murder_n adultery_n fornication_n gluttony_n drunkenness_n lie_v perjury_n idle_a word_n unclean_a thought_n negligent_a slackness_n and_o all_o that_o naughty_a be_v will_v come_v to_o remembrance_n o_o how_o heavy_a and_o grievous_a will_v they_o then_o seem_v to_o be_v which_o now_o seem_v so_o light_a and_o be_v do_v with_o so_o much_o sweetness_n and_o pleasure_n how_o great_o will_v they_o then_o torment_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o sinner_n who_o be_v able_a to_o express_v that_o last_o agony_n wherein_o the_o soul_n fight_v with_o sore_a and_o painful_a sickness_n with_o the_o temptation_n of_o devil_n with_o fear_n of_o the_o judgement_n to_o come_v and_o all_o this_o at_o one_o instant_a then_o come_v that_o last_o perturbation_n the_o fail_v of_o all_o the_o sense_n as_o the_o forerunner_n of_o death_n approach_v which_o vehement_o terrifi_v at_o what_o time_n the_o breast_n swell_v the_o speech_n grow_v hoarse_a faint_a and_o hollow_a the_o eye_n sink_v the_o nose_n begin_v to_o be_v sharp_a the_o countenance_n wax_v pale_a the_o foot_n die_v and_o the_o artery_n send_v forth_o a_o cold_a sweat_n these_o thing_n which_o do_v thus_o appear_v outward_o be_v grievous_a and_o full_a of_o horror_n but_o they_o be_v without_o all_o comparison_n more_o grievous_a &_o horrible_a which_o be_v feel_v inward_o for_o as_o saint_n 〈◊〉_d write_v of_o bless_a 〈◊〉_d say_v though_o he_o have_v many_o year_n serve_v god_n yet_o do_v he_o fear_v at_o the_o time_n of_o his_o departure_n what_o shall_v they_o do_v who_o many_o year_n have_v serve_v the_o devil_n and_o their_o execrable_a wickedness_n and_o who_o have_v provoke_v god_n unto_o wrath_n whither_o shall_v they_o go_v who_o help_n shall_v they_o crave_v what_o counsel_n shall_v they_o take_v if_o they_o look_v upward_o they_o shall_v see_v the_o draw_v sword_n of_o god_n justice_n if_o downward_o they_o shall_v see_v a_o gulf_n gape_v and_o hell_n fire_n there_o if_o the_o time_n past_a they_o shall_v see_v all_o thing_n vanish_v away_o like_o a_o shadow_n if_o the_o time_n to_o come_v they_o shall_v behold_v the_o eternity_n of_o world_n which_o shall_v last_v without_o end_n who_o can_v be_v able_a to_o resist_v and_o
