what_o change_v you_o will_v say_v may_v the_o mind_n be_v reasonnable_o suppose_v to_o suffer_v at_o its_o separation_n from_o the_o body_n or_o whether_o not_o enough_o to_o be_v call_v death_n many_o treatise_n have_v be_v write_v and_o discourse_n make_v to_o prove_v the_o immortality_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o some_o for_o its_o suppose_a mortality_n but_o the_o author_n have_v not_o be_v so_o happy_a as_o to_o agree_v in_o the_o notion_n of_o life_n and_o death_n with_o one_o another_o nor_o all_o so_o considerate_a as_o to_o fix_v any_o determinate_a notion_n for_o themselves_o or_o to_o tell_v their_o reader_n what_o they_o mean_v by_o its_o live_n or_o die_v so_o that_o it_o may_v be_v true_a or_o false_a for_o they_o but_o i_o shall_v here_o state_n the_o question_n more_o plain_o and_o tell_v you_o first_o that_o by_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n i_o mean_v a_o continuation_n of_o think_v or_o of_o understanding_n and_o willing_a where_o there_o be_v these_o action_n and_o passion_n there_o be_v enough_o to_o be_v call_v life_n and_o that_o which_o better_o deserve_v to_o be_v name_v live_v than_o any_o whatsoever_o organization_n and_o motion_n in_o body_n and_o the_o plain_a question_n be_v this_o whether_o upon_o the_o death_n or_o dissolution_n of_o the_o body_n think_v whole_o cease_v a_o cessation_n of_o some_o of_o the_o modes_n of_o think_v can_v be_v death_n it_o be_v probable_a that_o many_o if_o not_o all_o those_o thought_n and_o idea_n we_o have_v by_o occasion_n or_o on_o condition_n of_o our_o body_n as_o so_o and_o so_o dispose_v may_v be_v the_o occasion_n of_o since_o man_n fall_n into_o sin_n in_o good_a and_o bad_a for_o as_o much_o as_o we_o be_v tempt_v to_o most_o of_o our_o disorder_n by_o occasion_n of_o the_o body_n and_o to_o gratify_v some_o sense_n or_o other_o disorderly_a or_o beside_o the_o direction_n and_o will_n of_o god_n seem_v to_o be_v the_o first_o and_o most_o constant_a temptation_n every_o man_n be_v draw_v aside_o with_o now_o the_o good_a man_n or_o repent_v sinner_n through_o the_o goodness_n of_o god_n on_o this_o supposition_n of_o such_o thought_n cease_v get_v this_o by_o death_n though_o desire_n present_a but_o god_n and_o nothing_o to_o interpose_v for_o his_o love_n as_o a_o rival_n with_o his_o maker_n nothing_o now_o seem_v necessary_a for_o he_o to_o know_v but_o god_n and_o himself_o nor_o need_v he_o or_o value_v he_o can_v he_o have_v they_o any_o little_a pleasure_n in_o creature_n when_o he_o be_v at_o god_n the_o fountain_n and_o cause_n of_o all_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o evil_a man_n also_o lose_v all_o those_o gratification_n of_o sense_n he_o so_o much_o affect_v and_o er_o count_v his_o chief_a good_a and_o must_v needs_o find_v that_o he_o reflection_n on_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o creature_n he_o so_o much_o delight_v in_o and_o that_o he_o have_v miss_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o good_a can_v cause_v in_o he_o with_o all_o the_o vexation_n and_o trouble_v that_o all_o the_o disorderly_a thought_n of_o such_o a_o soul_n can_v raise_v to_o itself_o but_o to_o come_v to_o the_o point_n in_o hand_n again_o it_o can_v well_o be_v think_v that_o the_o soul_n or_o mind_n of_o either_o good_a or_o bad_a shall_v die_v or_o think_v whole_o and_o for_o ever_o cease_v or_o yet_o for_o a_o time_n upon_o the_o body_n death_n because_o the_o continuation_n of_o think_v or_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n can_v rational_o be_v suppose_v to_o depend_v on_o the_o body_n a_o thing_n more_o ignoble_a than_o itself_o be_v very_o unlikely_a to_o be_v its_o cause_n but_o upon_o the_o will_n of_o god_n its_o author_n and_o god_n can_v well_o be_v suppose_v thus_o to_o let_v any_o of_o his_o creature_n cease_v or_o disow_v his_o work_n that_o be_v good_a as_o the_o being_n of_o all_o thing_n be_v much_o less_o can_v mind_n the_o intelligent_a and_o active_a being_n be_v think_v to_o be_v adnihilate_v or_o cease_v think_v so_o soon_o and_o to_o no_o purpose_n change_v they_o may_v and_o do_v as_o all_o creature_n be_v mutable_a but_o what_o of_o god_n will_v be_v see_v in_o the_o cessation_n of_o any_o especial_o of_o mind_n who_o be_v neither_o be_v just_a nor_o good_a that_o a_o new_a one_o shall_v be_v miserable_a because_o the_o cease_v soul_n be_v unrighteous_a nor_o be_v determine_v what_o new_a one_o shall_v be_v so_o nor_o that_o a_o soul_n penitent_a in_o this_o world_n shall_v not_o itself_o be_v happy_a hereafter_o but_o have_v its_o hope_n of_o future_a happiness_n utter_o frustrate_v and_o be_v put_v off_o with_o the_o mock-happiness_n of_o be_v happy_a in_o another_o soul_n what_o encouragement_n can_v i_o have_v to_o my_o duty_n if_o i_o suppose_v i_o must_v not_o continue_v to_o the_o perfection_n and_o think_v it_o be_v apparent_a that_o the_o soul_n be_v immortal_a and_o that_o which_o be_v its_o proper_a or_o natural_a life_n viz._n think_v do_v not_o cease_v though_o to_o suppose_v the_o soul_n immortal_a of_o its_o own_o nature_n or_o that_o it_o be_v or_o have_v any_o thing_n in_o itself_o which_o necessary_o infer_v its_o continuance_n will_v be_v as_o great_a or_o a_o great_a error_n than_o to_o fancy_v it_o mortal_a for_o that_o will_v be_v to_o suppose_v it_o immortal_a as_o its_o author_n be_v but_o it_o can_v be_v suppose_v thus_o to_o be_v immortal_a for_o whatsoever_o have_v a_o beginning_n or_o have_v not_o be_v always_o may_v be_v suppose_v to_o have_v a_o end_n and_o cease_v to_o be_v such_o be_v all_o creature_n who_o will_v fall_v into_o nothing_o if_o god_n shall_v favour_n that_o he_o value_v more_o than_o the_o sinner_n repentance_n or_o new_a obedience_n yet_o i_o say_v though_o man_n be_v so_o apt_a to_o look_v upon_o god_n as_o such_o like_o himself_o we_o must_v affirm_v that_o god_n be_v not_o nor_o can_v he_o proper_o be_v say_v to_o be_v a_o enemy_n to_o man_n or_o any_o of_o his_o creature_n as_o they_o be_v to_o he_o and_o to_o one_o another_o but_o think_v that_o a_o great_a part_n of_o christian_n believe_v and_o worship_v more_o god_n than_o one_o and_o even_o enjoin_v such_o a_o faith_n and_o practice_n upon_o pain_n of_o damnation_n
