world_n to_o come_v both_o body_n and_o soul_n to_o condemnation_n and_o endless_a destruction_n it_o deprive_v we_o of_o our_o heavenly_a inheritance_n and_o the_o everlasting_a joy_n of_o god_n kingdom_n and_o plunge_v we_o into_o the_o lake_n which_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n in_o a_o word_n there_o be_v no_o evil_n which_o can_v be_v imagine_v which_o do_v not_o proceed_v from_o this_o evil_n of_o sin_n and_o therefore_o though_o it_o seem_v never_o so_o sweet_a to_o our_o carnal_a appetite_n yet_o be_v mix_v with_o this_o gall_n and_o wormwood_n of_o innumerable_a evil_n let_v we_o loath_a and_o abhor_v it_o when_o the_o vain_a and_o uncertain_a benefit_n which_o it_o promise_v move_v we_o to_o embrace_v it_o let_v the_o miserable_a evil_n which_o accompany_v it_o and_o the_o most_o assure_a and_o surpass_a joy_n which_o it_o deprive_v we_o of_o make_v we_o to_o avoid_v it_o as_o a_o deadly_a sting_a serpent_n chap._n vi_o of_o some_o special_a mean_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v preserve_v from_o fall_v into_o sin_n Â§_o sect._n 1_o and_o these_o be_v the_o reason_n whereby_o every_o one_o may_v be_v arm_v against_o satan_n suggestion_n sin_n the_o first_o mean_n be_v to_o avoid_v the_o occasion_n of_o sin_n tempt_v he_o unto_o sin_n and_o be_v move_v unto_o a_o christian_n resolution_n of_o possess_v body_n and_o soul_n in_o holiness_n and_o purity_n now_o we_o be_v to_o speak_v of_o some_o special_a mean_n whereby_o the_o christian_n thus_o resolve_a may_v be_v preserve_v from_o fall_v into_o such_o grievous_a sin_n as_o wound_v the_o conscience_n and_o hinder_v he_o in_o the_o course_n of_o sanctification_n 5.22_o 1._o thes_n 5.22_o first_o he_o that_o will_v avoid_v sin_n must_v careful_o also_o avoid_v the_o occasion_n thereof_o a_o small_a spark_n and_o be_v stark_o blind_a in_o behold_v the_o glorious_a beam_n of_o the_o sun_n nay_o let_v we_o know_v acknowledge_v and_o assure_v ourselves_o that_o as_o much_o as_o the_o whole_a globe_n of_o the_o earth_n exceed_v in_o quantity_n the_o least_o mote_n in_o the_o sun_n as_o much_o as_o the_o whole_a ocean_n exceed_v the_o small_a drop_n of_o water_n yea_o asmuch_o as_o the_o infinite_a creator_n exceed_v the_o finite_a creature_n between_o which_o there_o can_v be_v imagine_v no_o degree_n of_o comparison_n so_o much_o do_v the_o mercy_n and_o bounty_n of_o god_n exceed_v the_o bounty_n and_o mercy_n of_o mortal_a man_n and_o therefore_o if_o upon_o repentance_n for_o our_o fault_n and_o earnest_a desire_n of_o reconciliation_n we_o hope_v of_o mercy_n and_o wont_a kindness_n from_o our_o friend_n or_o neighbour_n let_v we_o not_o make_v any_o question_n nor_o once_o doubt_v of_o the_o lord_n love_n and_o favour_n towards_o we_o though_o our_o sin_n be_v never_o so_o grievous_a so_o we_o true_o repent_v and_o unfeigned_o turn_v unto_o he_o Â§_o sect._n 8_o but_o here_o the_o afflict_a conscience_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o say_v that_o though_o there_o god_n mercy_n in_o respect_n of_o our_o unworthiness_n proceed_v not_o from_o true_a humility_n but_o from_o our_o natural_a pride_n for_o if_o we_o have_v deny_v ourselves_o and_o be_v nothing_o in_o our_o own_o eye_n if_o we_o have_v whole_o remoove_v our_o own_o righteousness_n and_o do_v whole_o and_o only_o rest_n on_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n for_o our_o salvation_n we_o will_v never_o hope_v the_o more_o in_o regard_n of_o our_o own_o worthiness_n nor_o yet_o doubt_v in_o respect_n of_o our_o unworthiness_n but_o it_o be_v our_o secret_a and_o inbred_a pride_n of_o heart_n which_o make_v we_o to_o doubt_v of_o god_n mercy_n unless_o we_o bring_v he_o a_o bride_n and_o deserve_v it_o at_o his_o hand_n and_o to_o desire_v to_o make_v the_o lord_n behold_v unto_o we_o rather_o than_o we_o will_v be_v any_o whit_n behold_v unto_o he_o which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o disgrace_v god_n mercy_n that_o we_o may_v grace_v our_o own_o merit_n &_o by_o labour_v in_o justice_n let_v sin_n go_v unpunished_a and_o therefore_o have_v punish_v the_o sin_n of_o all_o man_n either_o in_o christ_n jesus_n or_o will_v thorough_o punish_v they_o in_o the_o party_n themselves_o so_o the_o same_o justice_n will_v not_o admit_v that_o the_o same_o sin_n shall_v be_v twice_o punish_v once_o in_o our_o saviour_n and_o again_o in_o the_o faithful_a now_o that_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v sufficient_o suffer_v for_o all_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o faithful_a it_o be_v evident_a by_o many_o place_n of_o the_o scripture_n esay_n 53.4_o sure_o he_o have_v bear_v our_o infirmity_n and_o carry_v our_o sorrow_n 5._o but_o he_o be_v wound_v for_o our_o transgression_n he_o be_v break_v for_o our_o iniquity_n the_o chastisement_n of_o our_o peace_n be_v upon_o he_o and_o with_o his_o stripe_n we_o be_v heal_v 2_o cor._n 5.21_o he_o have_v make_v he_o to_o be_v sin_n for_o we_o which_o know_v no_o sin_n that_o we_o shall_v be_v make_v the_o righteousness_n of_o god_n in_o he_o so_o the_o apostle_n he._n 9.26_o say_v that_o our_o saviour_n christ_n have_v appear_v once_o to_o put_v away_o sin_n by_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o himself_o and_o pet._n 1._o epistle_n 2.24_o say_v that_o his_o own_o self_n bear_v our_o sin_n in_o his_o body_n on_o the_o tree_n that_o we_o be_v deliver_v from_o sin_n shall_v live_v in_o righteousness_n see_v then_o our_o sin_n be_v lay_v upon_o christ_n and_o severe_o punish_v in_o he_o god_n in_o his_o justice_n will_v not_o inflict_v any_o more_o punishman_n upon_o the_o faithful_a but_o will_n pardon_n and_o forgive_v they_o which_o pardon_n and_o forgiveness_n be_v a_o work_n of_o his_o justice_n as_o well_o as_o of_o his_o mercy_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v say_v rom._n 3.25_o that_o god_n have_v set_v forth_o our_o saviour_n christ_n to_o be_v a_o reconciliation_n through_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n to_o declare_v his_o righteousness_n by_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v pass_v through_o the_o patience_n of_o god_n 26._o to_o show_v at_o this_o time_n his_o righteousness_n that_o he_o may_v be_v just_a and_o a_o justifier_n of_o he_o who_o be_v of_o the_o faith_n of_o jesus_n so_o it_o be_v say_v 1._o john_n 1.9_o that_o if_o we_o acknowledge_v our_o sin_n he_o be_v faithful_a and_o just_a to_o forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n and_o to_o cleanse_v we_o from_o all_o unrighteousness_n so_o that_o god_n righteousness_n be_v declare_v in_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o he_o show_v his_o justice_n in_o justify_v those_o who_o be_v of_o the_o faith_n of_o jesus_n and_o in_o pardon_v all_o their_o offence_n and_o therefore_o if_o we_o will_v believe_v in_o our_o saviour_n christ_n and_o bring_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o our_o faith_n in_o unfeigned_a repentance_n we_o need_v not_o servile_o to_o fear_v god_n justice_n nay_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o because_o he_o be_v just_a he_o will_v in_o christ_n pardon_n and_o forgive_v our_o sin_n and_o never_o inflict_v any_o punishment_n which_o by_o they_o in_o ourselves_o we_o have_v just_o deserve_v Â§_o sect._n 2_o but_o that_o the_o equity_n hereof_o may_v be_v more_o manifest_a pay_v that_o our_o sin_n be_v debt_n and_o therefore_o not_o to_o be_v twice_o pay_v we_o be_v to_o consider_v that_o our_o sin_n in_o the_o scripture_n be_v call_v debt_n for_o the_o lord_n in_o our_o
