spring_v and_o that_o be_v from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n for_o still_o we_o must_v remember_v that_o these_o four_o last_o vantage_n whereof_o the_o apostle_n speak_v do_v so_o follow_v the_o renounce_n of_o all_o our_o own_o work_n and_o the_o rejoice_v only_o in_o christ_n jesus_n as_o that_o they_o all_o issue_n from_o the_o first_o vantage_n that_o we_o have_v thereby_o namely_o from_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n through_o faith_n whence_o i_o observe_v that_o only_o they_o that_o be_v justify_v by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n through_o faith_n do_v feel_v examine_v themselves_o before_o they_o come_v unto_o the_o celebration_n of_o the_o lord_n his_o supper_n but_o say_v he_o when_o we_o be_v judge_v and_o punish_v we_o be_v chastened_a of_o the_o lord_n as_o child_n of_o their_o father_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v condemn_v with_o the_o world_n even_o with_o the_o wicked_a man_n of_o the_o world_n who_o portion_n be_v in_o the_o lake_n reform_v and_o they_o bring_v into_o the_o right_a way_n wherein_o they_o shall_v walk_v another_o reason_n be_v that_o so_o they_o may_v be_v stay_v from_o such_o inordinate_a way_n as_o whereunto_o natural_o they_o be_v bend_v and_o wherein_o sometime_o they_o will_v walk_v if_o they_o be_v not_o hold_v back_o as_o with_o a_o bridle_n for_o who_o delight_n in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v so_o entire_a and_o so_o altogether_o uncorrupt_a before_o he_o that_o he_o make_v as_o he_o shall_v do_v his_o law_n his_o whole_a delight_n and_o his_o counsellor_n nay_o who_o path_n be_v so_o straight_o that_o he_o have_v not_o a_o overween_a delight_n in_o some_o crooked_a bypath_n or_o who_o will_n and_o desire_n and_o affection_n be_v so_o sanctify_v that_o they_o be_v not_o often_o incline_v and_o sometime_o carry_v as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o main_a stream_n unto_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a and_o therefore_o the_o lord_n only_o wise_a know_v best_o what_o be_v best_a for_o his_o child_n sometime_o visit_v they_o with_o sickness_n that_o so_o be_v exercise_v with_o his_o rod_n they_o may_v not_o run_v into_o such_o danger_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n as_o otherwise_o they_o will_v a_o three_o reason_n why_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v sick_a sometime_o be_v that_o thereby_o he_o may_v make_v trial_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o of_o their_o patience_n to_o see_v whether_o they_o can_v be_v conrent_a as_o to_o receive_v health_n so_o to_o receive_v sickness_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o whether_o as_o in_o health_n so_o in_o sickness_n they_o will_v put_v their_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n for_o both_o health_n and_o sickness_n they_o be_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o both_o in_o health_n and_o in_o sickness_n we_o shall_v put_v our_o trust_n in_o the_o lord_n and_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o his_o will_n yet_o so_o choice_n we_o be_v that_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o receive_v health_n from_o the_o lord_n but_o hardly_o to_o receive_v sickness_n from_o the_o lord_n and_o so_o weak_a we_o be_v even_o the_o best_a of_o we_o that_o howsoever_o we_o do_v in_o health_n yet_o in_o sickness_n we_o can_v hardly_o submit_v ourselves_o unto_o god_n his_o will_n and_o oftentimes_o more_o put_v our_o trust_n in_o physician_n then_o in_o the_o lord_n 16._o 2_o cron._n 16._o as_o we_o read_v that_o that_o good_a king_n of_o judah_n asa_n do_v therein_o decline_v from_o that_o right_a path_n wherein_o he_o ought_v to_o have_v walk_v sometime_o then_o as_o i_o say_v god_n child_n be_v sick_a that_o the_o lord_n their_o god_n may_v so_o try_v whether_o they_o will_v still_o cleave_v fast_o unto_o he_o and_o patient_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o his_o will_n a_o four_o reason_n why_o the_o loâ—d_n sometime_o visit_v his_o child_n with_o sickness_n be_v that_o they_o also_o may_v have_v a_o far_a trial_n of_o the_o merciful_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o they_o for_o albeit_o his_o child_n be_v never_o without_o great_a experience_n of_o his_o merciful_a goodness_n towards_o they_o yet_o wherein_o have_v they_o great_a experience_n thereof_o and_o wherein_o their_o soul_n more_o to_o rejoice_v then_o that_o in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n he_o assi_v they_o with_o the_o comfort_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n and_o give_v they_o strength_n and_o patience_n to_o endure_v what_o he_o lay_v upon_o they_o and_o suffer_v not_o their_o faith_n or_o their_o hope_n to_o fail_v but_o so_o prepare_v they_o unto_o he_o that_o come_v death_n come_v life_n they_o can_v willing_o embrace_v either_o because_o they_o know_v that_o come_v death_n come_v life_n they_o be_v the_o lord_n a_o especial_a great_a goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o his_o child_n whereof_o they_o have_v such_o trial_n in_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n as_o that_o thereby_o not_o themselves_n alone_o but_o such_o as_o be_v about_o they_o be_v and_o may_v be_v great_o comfort_v and_o sometime_o no_o doubt_n they_o be_v sick_a that_o see_v the_o goodness_n of_o the_o lord_n towards_o they_o in_o time_n of_o their_o sickness_n they_o may_v the_o rather_o praise_v the_o lord_n for_o his_o goodness_n and_o study_v to_o glorify_v his_o name_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o health_n not_o to_o trouble_v you_o with_o more_o reason_n hereof_o the_o last_o reason_n why_o the_o lord_n visit_v his_o child_n with_o sickness_n be_v to_o put_v they_o in_o mind_n both_o of_o that_o sin_n which_o dwell_v in_o they_o and_o also_o of_o their_o mortality_n for_o sickness_n be_v both_o the_o fruit_n of_o sin_n and_o also_o the_o harbinger_n of_o death_n for_o howsoever_o sin_n be_v not_o the_o only_a cause_n wherefore_o sickness_n come_v yet_o be_v it_o always_o a_o cause_n wherefore_o the_o one_o as_o a_o father_n on_o the_o other_o as_o a_o judge_n on_o the_o one_o in_o love_n on_o the_o other_o in_o wrath_n on_o the_o one_o to_o chastise_v and_o correct_v on_o the_o other_o to_o punish_v and_o revenge_v on_o the_o one_o to_o reform_v the_o wickedness_n of_o their_o way_n on_o the_o other_o to_o recompense_v they_o their_o wickedness_n on_o the_o one_o to_o save_v they_o in_o he_o by_o the_o church_n of_o philippie_a when_o he_o be_v minister_a unto_o the_o holy_a apostle_n lie_v then_o in_o prison_n such_o thing_n as_o he_o want_v let_v it_o not_o therefore_o seem_v strange_a unto_o we_o if_o when_o we_o be_v faithful_o labour_v in_o the_o work_n of_o our_o call_n even_o than_o the_o lord_n strike_v we_o with_o any_o rod_n or_o visit_v we_o with_o sickness_n the_o point_n what_o be_v the_o collection_n do_v not_o you_o see_v say_v some_o that_o be_v popish_o affect_v how_o the_o lord_n do_v even_o control_v his_o discourse_n and_o by_o his_o judgement_n upon_o he_o give_v sentence_n on_o our_o side_n another_o example_n the_o judge_n from_o his_o seat_n of_o justice_n pronounce_v sentence_n against_o the_o wicked_a traitor_n or_o vilemalefactor_n present_o or_o quick_o after_o fall_v sick_a and_o happy_o not_o long_a after_o die_v what_o be_v the_o collection_n thus_o say_v some_o have_v the_o lord_n give_v judgement_n upon_o he_o for_o such_o judgement_n as_o he_o give_v against_o other_o and_o thus_o because_o their_o foolishness_n can_v reach_v unto_o the_o depth_n of_o god_n counsel_n and_o wisdom_n in_o his_o visitation_n they_o increase_v their_o thankfulness_n who_o be_v bring_v unto_o the_o gate_n of_o death_n be_v thence_o deliver_v for_o how_o much_o near_o they_o be_v unto_o death_n so_o much_o great_a praise_n be_v due_a unto_o he_o that_o have_v deliver_v they_o from_o death_n 3._o thereby_o to_o humble_v they_o for_o ever_o under_o his_o mighty_a hand_n by_o who_o they_o yet_o live_v move_v and_o have_v their_o be_v for_o what_o shall_v more_o humble_v we_o then_o plain_o to_o see_v that_o it_o be_v no_o way_n in_o ourselves_o but_o in_o the_o lord_n only_o to_o save_v our_o life_n from_o death_n be_v to_o his_o trouble_n and_o cost_n even_o so_o the_o child_n of_o god_n though_o this_o life_n be_v full_a of_o trouble_n and_o grief_n yet_o when_o their_o health_n be_v restore_v and_o their_o death_n be_v so_o a_o special_a mercy_n of_o god_n unto_o they_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o good_a of_o themselves_o for_o that_o thereby_o they_o be_v free_v from_o the_o trouble_n of_o this_o life_n and_o receive_v into_o everlasting_a joy_n and_o bliss_n yet_o be_v health_n also_o and_o life_n a_o special_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n unto_o they_o even_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o good_a of_o flower_n they_o will_v be_v albeit_o therefore_o by_o life_n they_o have_v more_o trouble_n yet_o because_o by_o trouble_n they_o be_v make_v more_o glorious_a therefore_o be_v life_n and_o restore_n death_n and_o recovery_n of_o health_n special_a mercy_n of_o the_o lord_n unto_o his_o child_n if_o then_o we_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n let_v not_o our_o heart_n be_v trouble_v nor_o fear_n in_o the_o bed_n of_o our_o sickness_n if_o it_o please_v the_o lord_n by_o death_n then_o to_o cut_v off_o our_o day_n this_o let_v we_o know_v that_o in_o mercy_n towards_o we_o he_o do_v it_o lord_n and_o our_o thankfulness_n unto_o the_o lord_n let_v we_o testify_v unto_o the_o world_n by_o walk_v worthy_a of_o this_o mercy_n he_o have_v reserve_v we_o unto_o his_o further_a glory_n let_v of_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n etc._n etc._n but_o such_o a_o knowledge_n as_o whereby_o we_o feel_v and_o prove_v in_o ourselves_o and_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n that_o he_o be_v indeed_o our_o redemption_n our_o reconciliation_n our_o salvation_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o we_o have_v hear_v or_o read_v or_o believe_v of_o he_o in_o the_o scripture_n not_o a_o contemplative_a &_o know_a may_v be_v make_v conformable_a unto_o christ_n his_o death_n and_o at_o length_n may_v be_v receive_v into_o that_o glory_n which_o be_v prepare_v to_o be_v show_v in_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o just_a thus_o than_o you_o see_v that_o both_o these_o be_v the_o fruit_n of_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n and_o that_o both_o the_o righteousness_n of_o faith_n and_o these_o fruit_n issue_v out_o of_o it_o be_v all_o vantage_n which_o the_o apostle_n count_v he_o have_v hy_z renounce_v all_o confidence_n in_o the_o flesh_n and_o rejoice_v only_o in_o christ_n jesus_n now_o let_v we_o see_v what_o observation_n we_o may_v gather_v hence_o for_o our_o use_n that_o i_o may_v know_v he_o this_n be_v one_o end_n wherefore_o the_o apostle_n will_v be_v find_v in_o christ_n have_v rejoice_v in_o christ_n jesus_n but_o what_o do_v not_o paul_n know_v christ_n have_v he_o preach_v christ_n so_o many_o year_n &_o yet_o know_v not_o christ_n have_v he_o plant_v so_o many_o church_n in_o the_o faith_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o know_v he_o not_o christ_n for_o answer_v hereunto_o to_o omit_v that_o knowledge_n which_o be_v by_o vision_n in_o heaven_n when_o we_o shall_v see_v he_o face_n to_o face_n we_o must_v understand_v that_o there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o knowledge_n of_o christ_n here_o on_o earth_n
