many_o of_o we_o as_o be_v christian_n for_o see_v that_o we_o be_v found_v and_o couch_v upon_o that_o stone_n which_o be_v the_o high_a priest_n before_o god_n we_o also_o must_v needs_o be_v priest_n also_o for_o that_o whatsoever_o he_o have_v we_o have_v and_o thesame_n be_v we_o wherefore_o i_o will_v wish_v that_o this_o word_n priest_n as_o well_o as_o this_o name_n christian_n shall_v be_v common_a to_o all_o for_o these_o name_n priest_n christian_n and_o baptise_a be_v all_o one_o now_o as_o i_o can_v not_o abide_v that_o these_o popish_a shavelynge_v shall_v thus_o be_v all_o indifferent_o call_v king_n for_o even_o as_o priest_n so_o also_o king_n be_v in_o this_o place_n spiritual_a vocables_n or_o word_n like_v as_o also_o these_o name_n be_v christian_n holy_a and_o church_n and_o even_o as_o thou_o do_v not_o call_v any_o man_n a_o christian_n because_o he_o have_v much_o money_n and_o wealth_n but_o because_o he_o be_v build_v upon_o the_o aforesaid_a stone_n believe_v in_o christ_n so_o likewise_o be_v thou_o not_o therefore_o call_v priest_n because_o thou_o haste_v a_o shave_a crown_n and_o jet_v the_o street_n in_o a_o long_a gown_n care_n and_o study_v to_o notify_v preach_v and_o open_o make_v know_v this_o benefit_n of_o god_n toward_o you_o and_o this_o wonderful_a work_n of_o he_o in_o you_o and_o also_o to_o draw_v and_o call_v all_o man_n indifferent_o into_o this_o light_n where_o you_o see_v any_o man_n that_o be_v as_o yet_o ignorant_a hereof_o those_o aught_o you_o to_o instruct_v and_o to_o teach_v these_o thing_n in_o which_o you_o yourselves_o have_v be_v instruct_v and_o teach_v to_o wit_n that_o by_o the_o virtue_n and_o power_n of_o god_n they_o must_v obtain_v salvation_n and_o attain_v this_o marvellous_a light_n here_o thou_o see_v how_o saint_n peter_n plain_o say_v that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o only_a light_n wherein_o he_o make_v it_o most_o apparent_a that_o all_o our_o reason_n seem_v it_o never_o so_o sharp_o to_o understande_v and_o perceive_v be_v nothing_o else_o then_o mere_a darkness_n for_o albeit_o that_o reason_n be_v able_a and_o have_v the_o skill_n to_o count_n one_o two_o three_o etc._n etc._n and_o likewise_o to_o see_v discern_v and_o know_v black_a from_o white_a and_o great_a from_o small_a and_o so_o of_o other_o external_a and_o outward_a thing_n yet_o be_v it_o not_o able_a to_o see_v what_o faith_n be_v here_o be_v it_o altogether_o blind_a insomuche_o that_o if_o all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o all_o man_n in_o the_o world_n be_v gather_v and_o incorporate_v into_o one_o yet_o be_v it_o not_o able_a to_o comprehend_v or_o reach_v so_o much_o as_o unto_o one_o letter_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n wherefore_o s._n peter_n here_o speak_v of_o a_o other_o light_n and_o that_o a_o marvellous_a light_n and_o flat_o also_o tell_v every_o one_o of_o we_o that_o we_o grope_v in_o darkness_n and_o utter_a blindness_n if_o god_n do_v not_o call_v we_o into_o his_o true_a light_n experience_n also_o teach_v we_o the_o same_o thing_n for_o when_o we_o hear_v it_o preach_v that_o by_o our_o work_n we_o can_v not_o obtain_v any_o thing_n at_o god_n hand_n and_o therefore_o that_o we_o have_v need_n of_o a_o mediator_n to_o make_v intercession_n unto_o god_n for_o we_o and_o to_o reconcile_v we_o unto_o he_o here_o doubtless_o must_v reason_v needs_o confess_v that_o of_o itself_o it_o be_v never_o able_a to_o understande_v and_o know_v these_o thing_n and_o therefore_o have_v need_n of_o a_o other_o light_n and_o a_o other_o knowledge_n to_o teach_v it_o to_o understande_v the_o same_o therefore_o whatsoever_o be_v not_o the_o worde_n of_o god_n and_o faith_n the_o same_o be_v nothing_o else_o then_o blind_a darkness_n for_o without_o these_o two_o the_o worde_n of_o god_n i_o mean_v and_o faith_n reason_n iumble_v at_o random_n and_o groap_v after_o his_o way_n like_o a_o blind_a man_n in_o the_o dark_a catching_n hold_v first_o of_o one_o thing_n and_o then_o of_o a_o other_o and_o never_o know_v what_o it_o shall_v do_v but_o when_o these_o thing_n be_v tell_v to_o the_o great_a learned_a and_o wise_a man_n of_o this_o world_n they_o can_v not_o abide_v to_o hear_v it_o they_o stamp_v and_o stare_v they_o fret_v fume_n and_o merueilous_o rage_n at_o it_o and_o therefore_o s._n peter_n show_v himself_o here_o a_o apostle_n of_o a_o singular_a undaunted_a boldness_n in_o that_o he_o dare_v to_o call_v that_o darkness_n which_o the_o whole_a world_n in_o a_o manner_n do_v even_o general_o almost_o adore_v and_o reverence_v as_o light_n now_o therefore_o we_o see_v that_o the_o chief_a and_o especiall_a office_n of_o all_o other_o appertain_v unto_o we_o christian_n be_v that_o we_o shall_v show_v forth_o and_o declare_v the_o virtue_n and_o wonderful_a work_n of_o our_o god_n these_o virtue_n and_o notable_a work_n by_o god_n for_o we_o do_z be_v those_o which_o somewhat_o afore_o we_o have_v speak_v of_o namely_o how_o that_o christ_n by_o the_o virtue_n of_o god_n have_v swallow_v up_o death_n devour_v hell_n consume_v sin_n and_o place_v we_o into_o a_o eternal_a life_n these_o virtue_n be_v so_o great_a and_o wonderful_a that_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o comprehend_v the_o same_o much_o less_o to_o perform_v they_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v to_o little_a purpose_n that_o some_o in_o this_o point_n
will_v not_o here_o define_v whether_o in_o this_o place_n s._n peter_n speak_v of_o a_o outward_a incontinency_n or_o no_o or_o whether_o he_o do_v as_o saint_n paul_n order_n be_v call_v all_o those_o thing_n fleshly_a which_o a_o man_n yet_o live_v in_o this_o body_n and_o carnal_a life_n commit_v and_o do_v without_o faith_n but_o i_o be_o of_o opinion_n that_o s._n peter_n in_o this_o place_n use_v a_o other_o manner_n of_o reason_n neither_o do_v i_o think_v that_o he_o take_v this_o word_n soul_n in_o such_o a_o sense_n as_o saint_n paul_n do_v who_o take_v it_o for_o spirit_n but_o that_o he_o somewhat_o more_o deep_o as_o i_o suppose_v consider_v the_o propriety_n of_o the_o greek_a howbeit_o it_o be_v not_o great_o material_a whether_o a_o man_n understande_v this_o place_n as_o mean_v of_o all_o carnal_a affection_n or_o else_o only_o of_o a_o external_a and_o outward_a intemperaunce_n this_o profitable_a lesson_n notwithstanding_o be_v hereby_o teach_v we_o that_o no_o man_n in_o this_o life_n can_v be_v perfect_o holy_a and_o thorough_o pure_a from_o sin_n this_o place_n the_o school_n man_n have_v gross_o mistake_v rove_a far_a wide_a from_o the_o true_a meaning_n thereof_o for_o they_o think_v it_o to_o be_v only_o speak_v and_o mean_v of_o they_o that_o be_v sinner_n as_o though_o the_o holy_a one_o be_v clear_a without_o all_o evil_a lust_n and_o carnal_a affection_n but_o he_o that_o will_v profitable_o search_v and_o read_v the_o scripture_n must_v with_o judgement_n and_o discretion_n weigh_v and_o thorough_o sift_v the_o nature_n sense_n and_o signification_n of_o every_o word_n for_o the_o prophet_n use_v sometime_o so_o to_o speak_v of_o they_o that_o be_v holy_a as_o that_o they_o seem_v to_o pronounce_v they_o pure_a and_o altogether_o clear_a from_o all_o manner_n of_o sin_n again_o sometime_o they_o so_o speak_v of_o they_o as_o that_o they_o confess_v they_o yet_o to_o have_v evil_a affection_n corrupt_a motion_n and_o to_o fight_v against_o sin_n this_o diversity_n and_o variety_n that_o in_o apparaunce_n seem_v to_o be_v in_o they_o marvellous_o gravel_v and_o offend_v these_o great_a rabbin_n and_o wonderful_o blind_v their_o sense_n from_o right_o understand_v the_o true_a meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n thus_o therefore_o stay_v thou_o thyself_o and_o for_o thy_o sure_a conceive_n of_o this_o and_o such_o like_a place_n be_v at_o this_o resolution_n thou_o ought_v to_o consider_v christian_n after_o two_o sort_n namely_o accord_v to_o their_o inward_a and_o hide_a life_n to_o wit_n faith_n and_o also_o accord_v to_o their_o outward_a and_o open_a life_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o flesh_n now_o if_o thou_o consider_v and_o respect_n a_o christian_n accord_v to_o faith_n he_o be_v all_o pure_a and_o without_o all_o filth_n and_o uncleanness_n but_o after_o the_o flesh_n he_o be_v not_o so_o for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n can_v abide_v no_o unclean_a thing_n to_o rest_n in_o that_o heart_n where_o it_o be_v through_o and_o faithful_o receive_v so_o that_o the_o heart_n which_o fast_a cleave_v unto_o the_o word_n can_v not_o but_o thereby_o be_v through_o purge_v and_o entire_o cleanse_v therefore_o in_o faith_n all_o thing_n be_v perfect_v accord_v to_o that_o sai_n afore_o wherein_o we_o be_v say_v to_o he_o king_n priest_n and_o the_o peculiar_a people_n of_o god._n but_o they_o be_v redeem_v by_o christ_n and_o that_o their_o sin_n be_v wash_v away_o by_o his_o blood_n they_o will_v quick_o answer_v that_o forsooth_o faith_n alone_o be_v not_o sufficient_a and_o therefore_o they_o must_v have_v the_o help_n of_o good_a work_n thus_o with_o mouth_n they_o confess_v god_n and_o in_o heart_n flat_o renounce_v he_o consider_v also_o what_o pithy_a and_o vehement_a word_n s._n peter_n here_o use_v they_o deny_v say_v he_o the_o lord_n that_o have_v buy_v they_o they_o ought_v to_o be_v subject_a unto_o he_o as_o unto_o their_o supreme_a sovereign_n many_o time_n to_o tarry_v too_o long_o ere_o he_o come_v whereas_o to_o the_o faithless_a and_o unbelieve_a it_o always_o come_v soon_o than_o they_o will_v have_v it_o saint_n peter_n meaning_n therefore_o be_v that_o they_o which_o set_v abroache_v such_o sect_n and_o heresy_n and_o consequent_o deny_v christ_n die_v most_o unwilling_o and_o that_o with_o horror_n and_o desperation_n for_o it_o can_v not_o otherwise_o be_v sing_v they_o stand_v doubtful_a of_o their_o salvation_n use_v these_o or_o such_o like_a term_n who_o can_v tell_v whether_o god_n be_v merciful_a unto_o i_o and_o forgive_v i_o my_o sin_n or_o no_o and_o thus_o while_o they_o stand_v in_o doubt_n with_o these_o word_n who_o can_v tell_v and_o who_o know_v their_o conscience_n can_v never_o be_v merry_a nor_o quiet_a and_o the_o long_o that_o they_o continue_v plunge_v in_o this_o waver_a doubt_n the_o more_o terribler_n still_o will_v death_n be_v unto_o they_o which_o can_v never_o be_v overcome_v unless_o sin_n and_o guiltiness_n of_o conscience_n be_v first_o take_v away_o sudden_a death_n therefore_o destruction_n and_o damnation_n shall_v come_v upon_o they_o so_o that_o they_o shall_v hereby_o to_o ease_v and_o rid_v their_o child_n from_o the_o same_o by_o tie_v they_o thus_o to_o a_o vow_a profession_n think_n thereby_o to_o make_v they_o live_v both_o quiet_o ydlie_a and_o delicate_o wherein_o they_o show_v themselves_o mere_o ignorant_a what_o a_o holy_a thing_n marriage_n be_v and_o how_o bless_v the_o trouble_n and_o grieve_v thereof_o be_v saint_n peter_n therefore_o in_o these_o word_n foretell_v how_o the_o world_n shall_v be_v pester_v with_o priest_n munke_n nun_n and_o votary_n to_o which_o profession_n most_o of_o the_o youth_n of_o the_o world_n betake_v themselves_o even_o as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v into_o the_o clutch_n and_o claw_n of_o the_o devil_n so_o that_o alas_o too_o true_o have_v s._n peter_n foreshow_v that_o these_o damnable_a way_n shall_v be_v follow_v of_o many_o by_o who_o the_o way_n of_o truth_n be_v evil_a speak_v of_o and_o this_o also_o we_o both_o have_v see_v and_o at_o this_o day_n in_o many_o place_n of_o the_o world_n do_v see_v to_o come_v to_o pass_v for_o he_o that_o fear_v god_n and_o study_v to_o lead_v a_o christian_a life_n be_v sure_o to_o be_v evil_o report_v of_o rahated_a and_o detest_a and_o the_o true_a sincere_a profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n shall_v not_o escape_v the_o rancorous_a note_n of_o spiteful_a reprehension_n but_o he_o spurn_v against_o and_o ill_o think_v of_o as_o though_o it_o be_v heresy_n and_o error_n if_o any_o man_n in_o zeal_n of_o truth_n shall_v preach_v and_o tell_v they_o that_o their_o sect_n be_v contrary_a to_o the_o doctrine_n lay_v down_o in_o
