with_o the_o lord_n 1_n thes_n 4._o 15_o 16_o 17._o and_o this_o be_v the_o doctrine_n that_o comfort_v believer_n verse_n 18._o will_v it_o not_o rejoice_v your_o heart_n if_o you_o be_v sure_a to_o live_v to_o see_v the_o come_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o to_o see_v his_o glorious_a appear_v and_o retinue_n if_o you_o be_v not_o to_o die_v but_o to_o be_v catch_v up_o thus_o to_o meet_v the_o lord_n and_o to_o be_v change_v immediate_o into_o a_o immortal_a incorruptible_a glorious_a state_n will_v you_o be_v averse_a to_o this_o will_v it_o not_o be_v the_o great_a joy_n that_o you_o can_v desire_v for_o my_o own_o part_n i_o must_v confess_v to_o you_o that_o death_n as_o death_n appear_v to_o i_o as_o a_o enemy_n and_o my_o nature_n do_v abhor_v and_o fear_v it_o but_o the_o these_o misery_n yea_o in_o every_o prayer_n what_o do_v we_o else_o but_o confess_v they_o and_o lament_v they_o and_o groan_v for_o help_v and_o for_o deliverance_n and_o yet_o shall_v we_o fear_v our_o day_n of_o freedom_n and_o be_v loath_a that_o death_n shall_v bring_v we_o news_n that_o our_o prayer_n be_v hear_v and_o our_o groan_n have_v reach_v up_o to_o heaven_n and_o that_o the_o bond_n of_o flesh_n and_o sin_n shall_v be_v dissolve_v and_o we_o shall_v have_v need_n to_o watch_v and_o strive_v and_o fear_v and_o complain_v and_o sigh_v and_o weep_v no_o more_o shall_v the_o face_n of_o death_n discourage_v we_o from_o desire_v such_o a_o bessed_a day_n when_o we_o have_v so_o full_a assurance_n that_o at_o last_o this_o enemy_n also_o shall_v be_v destroy_v the_o lord_n heal_v and_o pardon_v the_o hypocrisy_n of_o our_o complaint_n together_o with_o the_o unbelief_n and_o cowardliness_n of_o our_o soul_n do_v we_o speak_v so_o much_o and_o hear_v so_o much_o and_o seem_v to_o do_v so_o much_o against_o sin_n and_o yet_o have_v we_o rather_o keep_v it_o still_o then_o be_v strip_v of_o it_o together_o with_o the_o rag_n of_o our_o mortality_n and_o yet_o have_v we_o rather_o dwell_v with_o sin_n in_o tempt_v trouble_v corruptible_a flesh_n then_o lay_v they_o by_o and_o dwell_v with_o christ_n o_o lord_n how_o lamentable_o have_v we_o lose_v our_o wisdom_n and_o drown_v our_o mind_n in_o flesh_n and_o folly_n by_o forsake_v thou_o our_o light_n and_o life_n how_o come_v our_o reasonable_a soul_n to_o be_v so_o bewitch_v as_o after_o all_o our_o conviction_n complaint_n and_o prayer_n to_o be_v still_o more_o willing_a of_o our_o sickness_n then_o of_o the_o remedy_n and_o more_o afraid_a of_o this_o bitter_a cup_n then_o of_o the_o poison_n that_o lodge_v in_o our_o bowel_n which_o it_o will_v expel_v and_o that_o after_o all_o the_o labour_n we_o have_v use_v we_o have_v yet_o rather_o dwell_v with_o our_o great_a enemy_n then_o by_o a_o less_o to_o be_v transmit_v to_o our_o dear_a friend_n and_o have_v rather_o continue_v in_o a_o troublesome_a weary_a restless_a life_n then_o by_o the_o sleep_n of_o death_n to_o pass_v to_o rest_n and_o this_o sin_n in_o other_o also_o be_v our_o trouble_n though_o not_o so_o much_o as_o in_o ourselves_o it_o make_v those_o our_o bitter_a enemy_n who_o good_a we_o most_o desire_v and_o endeavour_v and_o cause_v the_o unthankful_a world_n to_o requite_v we_o with_o malicious_a usage_n for_o tell_v they_o the_o ungrateful_a truth_n and_o seek_v their_o salvation_n it_o make_v our_o friend_n to_o be_v but_o half-friend_n and_o some_o of_o they_o too_o like_o our_o enemy_n it_o put_v a_o sting_n into_o the_o sweet_a friendship_n and_o mix_v smart_a with_o all_o our_o pleasure_n it_o work_v we_o grief_n from_o precious_a mercy_n and_o abate_v the_o comfort_n of_o our_o near_a relation_n so_o that_o our_o smart_n by_o the_o prick_n be_v often_o great_a than_o our_o pleasure_n in_o the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o rose_n no_o friend_n be_v so_o smooth_v and_o square_v to_o the_o temper_n and_o interest_n of_o another_o but_o that_o some_o in_o equality_n and_o unevenness_n do_v remain_v which_o make_v the_o closure_n to_o be_v less_o near_o and_o steadfast_a even_o family_n relation_n be_v usual_o so_o imperfect_o joint_v and_o cement_v that_o when_o the_o wind_n of_o trial_n be_v any_o thing_n high_a they_o shake_v the_o frame_n and_o though_o they_o be_v but_o low_o they_o find_v a_o entrance_n and_o cause_v such_o a_o coldness_n of_o affection_n as_o be_v contrary_n to_o the_o nature_n and_o duty_n of_o the_o relation_n either_o a_o contrariety_n of_o opinion_n or_o of_o natural_a temperature_n and_o humour_n or_o else_o of_o the_o disposition_n of_o the_o mind_n sometime_o cross_a interest_n and_o sometime_o passion_n and_o cross_a word_n do_v cause_n such_o discontent_n and_o sowrness_n such_o frown_n or_o jealousy_n or_o distance_n that_o our_o near_a friend_n be_v but_o as_o sackcloth_n on_o our_o skin_n and_o as_o a_o shoe_n too_o straight_o for_o we_o or_o as_o a_o garment_n that_o be_v unmeet_a which_o pinch_n and_o trouble_v we_o in_o their_o use_n and_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v to_o we_o as_o the_o apple_n of_o our_o eye_n be_v as_o the_o dust_n or_o smoke_n to_o they_o that_o vex_v or_o blind_v they_o and_o the_o more_o we_o love_v they_o the_o more_o it_o greive_v we_o to_o be_v cross_v in_o our_o love_n there_o be_v scarce_o any_o friend_n so_o wise_a so_o good_a so_o suitable_a to_o we_o or_o so_o near_o that_o we_o can_v always_o please_v and_o the_o displeasure_n of_o a_o friend_n be_v as_o gravel_n in_o our_o shoe_n or_o as_o nettle_n in_o our_o bed_n ofttimes_o more_o grievous_a than_o the_o malice_n of_o a_o enemy_n there_o be_v no_o such_o do_v as_o this_o in_o heaven_n because_o there_o be_v no_o such_o guest_n as_o sin_n we_o shall_v love_v each_o other_o far_o more_o than_o we_o do_v here_o and_o yet_o that_o love_n shall_v never_o be_v inordinate_a nor_o in_o the_o least_o divert_v our_o love_n from_o god_n but_o every_o saint_n and_o angel_n in_o the_o society_n shall_v be_v love_v with_o most_o chaste_a and_o pure_a affection_n in_o a_o perfect_a subordination_n to_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o so_o as_o that_o god_n himself_o in_o they_o shall_v be_v the_o chief_a object_n of_o that_o love_n it_o be_v there_o that_o our_o friend_n be_v free_v from_o all_o their_o imperfection_n do_v neither_o tempt_v we_o to_o a_o carnal_a love_n nor_o have_v any_o thing_n in_o they_o to_o discourage_v the_o love_n that_o be_v spiritual_a and_o pure_a we_o have_v here_o our_o passionate_a friend_n our_o self-conceited_a friend_n our_o unkind_a unthankful_a selfish_a friend_n our_o mutable_a and_o unfaithful_a friend_n our_o contentious_a friend_n that_o be_v like_a to_o enemy_n and_o who_o have_v use_v we_o more_o hardly_o than_o our_o friend_n but_o when_o we_o come_v to_o god_n we_o shall_v have_v friend_n that_o be_v like_o god_n that_o be_v whole_o good_a and_o be_v participative_o turn_v into_o love_n and_o have_v leave_v behind_o they_o all_o that_o be_v unclean_a and_o noisome_a and_o troublesome_a to_o themselves_o they_o have_v also_o cast_v off_o all_o that_o can_v be_v troublesome_a to_o we_o our_o love_n will_v be_v there_o without_o suspicion_n without_o interruption_n unkindness_n and_o discontent_n without_o disappointment_n frustration_n and_o dissatisfaction_n for_o god_n himself_o will_v full_o satisfy_v we_o and_o we_o shall_v love_v his_o goodness_n and_o glory_n in_o his_o saint_n as_o well_o as_o immediate_o in_o himself_o our_o friend_n be_v now_o lose_v at_o the_o turn_n of_o a_o straw_n the_o change_n of_o their_o interest_n their_o company_n their_o opinion_n the_o slander_n of_o backbiter_n and_o misrepresentation_n of_o malicious_a man_n can_v cool_v their_o love_n and_o kill_v their_o friendship_n but_o heaven_n be_v a_o place_n of_o constant_a love_n the_o love_n of_o saint_n as_o all_o thing_n else_o be_v there_o eternal_a and_o yet_o it_o declineâ—h_v not_o with_o age_n it_o be_v a_o world_n of_o love_n that_o we_o be_v haste_v to_o it_o be_v a_o life_n of_o love_n that_o we_o must_v there_o live_v and_o a_o work_n of_o love_n and_o perfect_a love_n that_o we_o must_v be_v there_o employ_v in_o for_o ever_o if_o here_o we_o have_v a_o pure_a a_o dear_a a_o faithful_a friend_n that_o be_v without_o falseheartedness_n and_o deceit_n that_o love_v we_o as_o his_o own_o soul_n how_o quick_o be_v he_o snatch_v away_o by_o death_n and_o leave_v we_o melt_v into_o tear_n and_o mourn_v over_o his_o earthly_a relic_n and_o look_v upward_o with_o grieve_a heart_n as_o the_o disciple_n do_v after_o their_o ascend_a lord_n act_n 1._o 9_o 10_o 11._o we_o be_v leave_v almost_o as_o lifeless_a by_o such_o friend_n as_o the_o body_n be_v leave_v by_o the_o depart_a soul_n we_o have_v nothing_o but_o grief_n to_o tell_v we_o that_o we_o live_v and_o that_o our_o soul_n be_v not_o depart_v with_o they_o we_o be_v leave_v in_o great_a lamentation_n then_o if_o we_o have_v never_o know_v a_o faithful_a friend_n and_o alas_o how_o quick_o be_v they_o go_v when_o once_o god_n see_v they_o ripe_a for_o heaven_n when_o drone_n and_o dullard_n live_v much_o long_o if_o we_o see_v a_o saint_n that_o be_v clear_a of_o judgement_n and_o low_a in_o humility_n and_o naked-hearted_n in_o sincerity_n and_o that_o abound_v in_o love_n to_o god_n and_o man_n that_o be_v faithful_a and_o constant_a to_o their_o friend_n and_o be_v above_o the_o pride_n and_o vanity_n of_o this_o world_n and_o do_v converse_v by_o a_o life_n of_o faith_n above_o and_o be_v useful_a and_o exemplary_a in_o their_o generation_n alas_o how_o soon_o be_v they_o
if_o it_o have_v be_v mere_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n it_o can_v be_v easy_o satisfy_v answ_n wo_n to_o we_o if_o we_o have_v not_o ground_n of_o comfort_n against_o the_o error_n of_o our_o own_o will_n when_o our_o destruction_n be_v of_o ourselves_o our_o help_n be_v of_o god_n so_o much_o as_o be_v of_o ourselves_o in_o it_o be_v evil_a but_o so_o much_o as_o be_v of_o god_n be_v good_a i_o do_v not_o say_v that_o you_o shall_v rest_v in_o your_o own_o will_n nor_o in_o your_o own_o way_n but_o in_o the_o will_n and_o way_n of_o god_n the_o rod_n be_v good_a though_o the_o fault_n that_o make_v it_o necessary_a be_v bad_a the_o chastise_v will_n be_v good_a though_o the_o sin_v will_v be_v evil_a and_o it_o be_v good_a that_o be_v intend_v to_o we_o and_o shall_v be_v perform_v in_o the_o event_n object_n but_o how_o can_v we_o rest_v in_o the_o angry_a afflict_a will_n of_o god_n when_o it_o be_v this_o that_o we_o must_v be_v humble_v under_o and_o it_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n that_o be_v the_o condemnation_n of_o the_o wicked_a answ_n the_o effect_n be_v from_o a_o twofold_a cause_n the_o sin_v will_n of_o man_n and_o the_o punish_a will_n of_o god_n be_v according_o good_a as_o from_o the_o latter_a and_o so_o far_o shall_v be_v love_v and_o consent_v to_o by_o all_o and_o evil_a as_o from_o the_o former_a and_o so_o may_v be_v abhor_v but_o to_o the_o saint_n there_o be_v yet_o great_a consolation_n though_o affliction_n be_v their_o grief_n as_o it_o signify_v god_n displeasure_n and_o cause_v the_o smart_n or_o destruction_n of_o the_o flesh_n yet_o it_o be_v their_o mercy_n as_o as_o it_o proceed_v from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o prepare_v they_o for_o the_o great_a mercy_n and_o therefore_o see_v god_n never_o bring_v evil_a on_o they_o that_o love_v he_o but_o what_o be_v preparatory_a to_o aâ—_n far_o great_a good_a we_o may_v well_o take_v comfort_n in_o our_o death_n that_o it_o be_v our_o father_n will_v it_o shall_v be_v so_o use_v 8._o if_o death_n shall_v be_v conquer_v as_o the_o last_o enemy_n from_o hence_o christian_n may_v receive_v exceed_v consolation_n as_o know_v that_o they_o have_v no_o to_o the_o break_a music_n of_o sigh_n and_o groan_n and_o lamentation_n which_o we_o now_o take_v to_o be_v almost_o our_o best_a we_o be_v now_o glad_a when_o we_o can_v find_v but_o word_n and_o groan_n and_o tear_n to_o lament_v our_o sin_n and_o misery_n but_o then_o our_o joy_n shall_v know_v no_o sorrow_n nor_o our_o voice_n any_o sad_a and_o mournfall_n tune_n and_o may_v we_o not_o bear_v a_o while_n the_o sorrow_n that_o shall_v have_v so_o good_a a_o end_n we_o shall_v short_o have_v lay_v by_o the_o hard_a unprofitable_a barren_a heart_n that_o be_v now_o our_o continual_a burden_n and_o disease_n love_v not_o your_o corruption_n christian_n but_o yet_o be_v patient_a under_o the_o unavoidable_a relic_n that_o offend_v you_o remember_v that_o your_o conflict_n will_v world_n if_o so_o i_o will_v know_v of_o thou_o whether_o this_o be_v not_o from_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n within_o thou_o and_o be_v not_o his_o image_n itself_o upon_o thou_o and_o the_o motion_n of_o the_o new_a and_o heavenly_a nature_n which_o be_v beget_v in_o thou_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n undoubted_o it_o be_v and_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n thus_o dwell_v in_o thou_o be_v
