therefore_o study_v by_o all_o mean_n to_o think_v often_o upon_o it_o and_o make_v ready_a for_o it_o for_o believe_v i_o death_n be_v a_o very_a big_a word_n for_o it_o will_v once_o make_v you_o stand_v with_o horror_n in_o your_o soul_n if_o your_o peace_n be_v not_o make_v up_o with_o god_n i_o know_v not_o a_o more_o dreadful_a dispensation_n than_o death_n and_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n meet_v together_o the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o shall_v speak_v unto_o from_o this_o first_o observation_n viz._n that_o it_o be_v a_o most_o certain_a and_o infallible_a truth_n and_o all_o person_n shall_v once_o see_v death_n shall_v be_v to_o give_v you_o some_o consideration_n for_o press_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n i._o the_o first_o consideration_n be_v this_o that_o to_o die_v well_o and_o in_o the_o lord_n be_v a_o most_o difficult_a work_n therefore_o i_o entreat_v you_o prepare_v for_o death_n it_o be_v a_o difficult_a work_n to_o communicate_v aright_o it_o be_v a_o difficult_a work_n to_o pray_v aright_o and_o it_o be_v a_o difficult_a work_n to_o conâ—er_v aright_o but_o i_o must_v tell_v you_o it_o be_v a_o more_o difficult_a work_n to_o die_v aright_o than_o any_o of_o these_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v more_o difficult_a to_o communicate_v aright_o then_o to_o pray_v aright_o yet_o it_o be_v much_o more_o difficult_a to_o die_v aright_o then_o to_o communicate_v aright_o for_o it_o be_v a_o most_o difficult_a work_n to_o die_v in_o the_o lord_n death_n will_v put_v the_o most_o accurate_a christian_a that_o be_v here_o to_o a_o wonderful_a search_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o nine_o thing_n that_o death_n will_v try_v in_o thou_o 1._o death_n will_v try_v both_o the_o reality_n and_o strength_n of_o thy_o faith_n it_o may_v be_v easy_a for_o thou_o to_o keep_v up_o faith_n under_o many_o difficulty_n but_o death_n shall_v put_v thy_o faith_n to_o the_o great_a stress_n that_o ever_o it_o do_v meet_v with_o yea_o know_v this_o that_o the_o faith_n of_o the_o strong_a believer_n may_v get_v and_o ordinary_o do_v get_v a_o set_v at_o death_n the_o like_a whereof_o it_o never_o get_v before_o therefore_o prepare_v for_o death_n 2._o death_n will_v try_v thy_o love_n to_o god_n some_o person_n pretend_v much_o love_n to_o he_o but_o death_n will_v propose_v this_o question_n to_o such_o a_o person_n love_v thou_o he_o more_o than_o these_o love_v thou_o he_o more_o than_o thy_o wife_n more_o than_o thy_o house_n more_o than_o thy_o friend_n but_o your_o unwillingness_n to_o die_v give_v we_o much_o ground_n to_o fear_v that_o many_o have_v little_a love_n to_o christ_n but_o much_o to_o the_o world_n and_o so_o dare_v not_o answer_v the_o question_n lord_n thou_o know_v i_o love_v thou_o 3._o death_n will_v try_v thy_o enjoyment_n some_o of_o you_o may_v be_v ready_a to_o think_v that_o you_o meet_v with_o many_o enjoyment_n so_o that_o you_o may_v reckon_v as_o you_o think_v to_o forty_o enjoyment_n and_o sweet_a out_n let_n but_o beware_v that_o death_n bring_v they_o not_o down_o to_o twenty_o i_o have_v know_v some_o who_o think_v they_o have_v meet_v forty_o time_n with_o god_n but_o when_o death_n come_v it_o make_v they_o take_v down_o the_o count_n to_o the_o half_a therefore_o see_v death_n will_v try_v the_o reality_n of_o thy_o enjoyment_n o_o prepare_v for_o it_o 4._o death_n will_v try_v thy_o patience_n thou_o may_v seem_v to_o have_v much_o patience_n now_o but_o when_o death_n come_v and_o thou_o be_v put_v to_o die_v it_o will_v put_v thy_o patience_n to_o a_o great_a trial_n therefore_o prepare_v before_o it_o 5._o death_n will_v try_v the_o reality_n of_o thy_o duty_n yea_o even_o these_o duty_n wherein_o thou_o have_v most_o satisfaction_n as_o thy_o communicate_v aright_o in_o such_o a_o place_n thou_o hope_v that_o be_v sure_a thy_o read_v the_o scripture_n at_o such_o a_o time_n aright_o thou_o hope_v that_o be_v sure_a thou_o pray_v at_o such_o a_o time_n aright_o and_o hope_v that_o be_v sure_a thou_o meditate_a in_o such_o a_o place_n aright_o and_o hope_v that_o be_v sure_a but_o believe_v i_o death_n may_v make_v thou_o change_v thy_o thought_n for_o there_o be_v some_o person_n who_o have_v communicate_v and_o pray_v etc._n etc._n as_o right_a as_o any_o in_o this_o generation_n who_o for_o all_o that_o will_v not_o find_v six_o duty_n wherein_o they_o can_v find_v satisfaction_n at_o death_n therefore_o our_o need_n be_v great_a to_o prepare_v for_o it_o 6._o death_n will_v exceed_o try_v thy_o sincerity_n when_o it_o come_v a_o hypocrite_n may_v go_v all_o along_v his_o whole_a way_n undiscovered_a yet_o death_n may_v bring_v he_o to_o light_n and_o make_v it_o appear_v what_o man_n he_o it_o 7._o death_n will_v discover_v unto_o thou_o many_o hide_v and_o secret_a sin_n of_o which_o thou_o never_o have_v a_o thought_n before_o yea_o albeit_o thou_o think_v these_o have_v be_v forget_v death_n will_v let_v thou_o see_v they_o stand_v between_o thou_o and_o the_o light_n of_o his_o countenance_n 8._o death_n will_v accurate_o try_v thy_o mortification_n some_o think_v they_o have_v come_v a_o great_a length_n in_o mortification_n but_o believe_v i_o death_n will_v try_v it_o and_o put_v it_o to_o the_o touchstone_n 9_o death_n will_v try_v thy_o hope_n whether_o it_o be_v real_a or_o not_o i_o shall_v only_o say_v this_o that_o all_o the_o other_o grace_n must_v low_o their_o sail_n to_o faith_n and_o so_o it_o be_v faith_n must_v carry_v we_o through_o be_v that_o last_o triumph_v grace_n which_o must_v fit_v the_o field_n for_o we_o when_o all_o the_o other_o grace_n will_v faint_v and_o lie_v by_o it_o be_v faith_n that_o must_v enter_v we_o fair_o within_o the_o border_n of_o eternity_n it_o be_v faith_n must_v gainstand_v all_o the_o temptation_n of_o death_n yea_o all_o the_o other_o grace_n must_v as_o it_o be_v stand_v by_o and_o see_v faith_n strike_v the_o last_o stroke_n in_o this_o war_n ii_o the_o second_o consideration_n to_o press_v you_o to_o mind_n death_n be_v this_o that_o you_o be_v to_o die_v but_o once_o o_o labour_n to_o do_v that_o well_o which_o you_o be_v to_o do_v but_o once_o and_o the_o wrong_n do_v of_o which_o can_v never_o be_v help_v if_o you_o pray_v not_o aright_o you_o may_v get_v that_o mend_v if_o you_o meditate_v not_o aright_o you_o may_v get_v that_o mend_v and_o if_o you_o communicate_v not_o aright_o you_o may_v get_v that_o also_o mend_v but_o alas_o if_o you_o die_v not_o aright_o there_o be_v no_o mend_n of_o that_o therefore_o o_o prepare_v for_o death_n that_o you_o may_v die_v well_o see_v you_o be_v to_o die_v but_o once_o iii_o the_o three_o consideration_n to_o press_v you_o to_o for_o thou_o to_o win_v to_o the_o sight_n of_o thy_o justification_n and_o it_o will_v then_o be_v much_o for_o thou_o to_o win_v to_o assurance_n o_o then_o be_v it_o not_o needful_a for_o thou_o to_o put_v all_o thy_o work_n by_o thy_o hand_n before_o thy_o latter_a end_n come_v wherefore_o i_o may_v say_v to_o you_o as_o moses_n say_v in_o his_o song_n deut._n 32._o 29._o o_o that_o they_o be_v wise_a that_o they_o understand_v this_o that_o they_o will_v consider_v their_o latter_a end_n o_o that_o you_o have_v this_o piece_n of_o divine_a wisdom_n i_o pray_v you_o consider_v that_o sad_a word_n lament_v 1._o 9_o she_o remember_v not_o her_o last_o end_n and_o what_o of_o it_o therefore_o she_o come_v down_o wonderful_o so_o will_v the_o down_o come_v of_o many_o in_o this_o generation_n be_v wonderful_a who_o consider_v not_o their_o last_o end_n v._o the_o five_o consideration_n for_o press_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n be_v this_o viz._n that_o their_o
yourselves_o ii_o challenge_n that_o death_n will_v present_v unto_o you_o will_v be_v for_o the_o kill_n of_o many_o precious_a conviction_n which_o we_o have_v have_v what_o will_v each_o of_o you_o answer_v at_o death_n when_o your_o conscience_n propose_v this_o challenge_n to_o you_o thou_o meet_v with_o such_o a_o challenge_n at_o such_o a_o time_n and_o go_v home_o and_o crucify_v it_o when_o at_o another_o time_n thou_o meet_v with_o another_o challenge_n and_o go_v home_o and_o crucify_v it_o these_o challenge_n will_v be_v lay_v home_o to_o thy_o door_n therefore_o think_v on_o they_o iii_o challenge_n death_n will_v charge_v you_o for_o a_o formal_a hypocritical_a way_n of_o go_v about_o duty_n i_o say_v your_o conscience_n will_v then_o tell_v you_o that_o you_o go_v to_o such_o a_o communion_n with_o a_o selfish_a end_n and_o aâ—_n another_o time_n you_o pray_v hyporritical_o and_o formal_o and_o what_o will_v you_o have_v to_o answer_v when_o you_o meet_v with_o these_o challenge_n i_o confess_v i_o know_v not_o what_o you_o can_v answer_v to_o these_o but_o i_o charge_v you_o be_v think_v what_o you_o will_v answer_v for_o it_o may_v be_v that_o these_o conviction_n shall_v lie_v on_o your_o conscience_n that_o even_o this_o day_n you_o have_v hear_v two_o search_a sermon_n and_o do_v meet_v with_o some_o conviction_n but_o make_v no_o good_a use_n of_o they_o yea_o and_o â—â—_o may_v be_v you_o do_v sleep_v all_o the_o time_n o_o what_o will_v you_o answer_v when_o it_o will_v be_v say_v to_o you_o you_o go_v to_o such_o a_o sermon_n and_o sleep_v all_o the_o time_n and_o you_o go_v to_o such_o a_o communion_n but_o have_v no_o other_o end_n before_o your_o eye_n but_o to_o be_v see_v of_o man_n i_o entreat_v you_o consider_v present_o what_o you_o will_v answer_v to_o these_o iv._o challenge_n will_v be_v for_o your_o break_n of_o many_o precious_a resolution_n it_o will_v be_v say_v to_o some_o of_o you_o that_o at_o the_o communion_n in_o this_o place_n you_o take_v on_o vow_n and_o do_v break_v they_o i_o be_o sure_a you_o can_v question_v the_o justice_n of_o this_o challenge_n therefore_o see_v what_o you_o will_v answer_v v._o challenge_n you_o slight_v many_o precious_a offer_n of_o the_o gospel_n o_o man_n and_o woman_n in_o this_o city_n what_o will_v you_o answer_v to_o this_o i_o be_v often_o exhort_v to_o take_v christ_n and_o yet_o will_v never_o take_v he_o what_o will_v conscience_n say_v to_o that_o when_o death_n shall_v table_n it_o before_o you_o i_o tell_v you_o what_o you_o must_v then_o answer_v o_o curse_a i_o that_o ever_o refuse_v christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n and_o you_o shall_v then_o be_v confound_v because_o this_o be_v your_o sin_n believe_v i_o there_o be_v never_o a_o offer_n of_o this_o everlasting_a gospel_n and_o of_o christ_n in_o it_o make_v unto_o you_o that_o shall_v not_o at_o death_n before_o or_o after_o be_v bring_v to_o your_o remembrance_n and_o o_o how_o sad_a and_o doleful_a will_v it_o be_v to_o you_o when_o christ_n shall_v open_v the_o book_n where_o your_o sin_n be_v write_v and_o begin_v with_o the_o sin_n of_o slight_v the_o great_a salvation_n thus_o i_o invite_v you_o when_o you_o be_v twelve_o year_n old_a and_o you_o will_v not_o come_v i_o invite_v you_o when_o you_o be_v thirty_o year_n old_a and_o you_o will_v not_o come_v i_o invite_v you_o when_o sixty_o year_n old_a and_o you_o will_v not_o come_v what_o will_v you_o answer_v to_o this_o have_v you_o any_o thing_n to_o say_v or_o must_v you_o not_o stand_v speechless_a before_o your_o judge_n when_o he_o shall_v put_v home_o this_o challenge_n unto_o you_o therefore_o think_v serious_o upon_o it_o how_o you_o will_v answer_v to_o it_o vi_o challenge_n will_v be_v for_o your_o sin_v oftentimes_o against_o light_n and_o o_o how_o sad_a and_o painful_a a_o challenge_n will_v that_o be_v at_o the_o day_n of_o death_n when_o it_o will_v be_v say_v thou_o sin_v with_o a_o witness_n in_o thy_o bosom_n that_o thou_o be_v do_v wrong_n thy_o conscience_n will_v say_v oftentimes_o do_v i_o tell_v thou_o this_o be_v sinful_a yet_o will_v thou_o not_o abstain_v from_o it_o and_o what_o will_v you_o answer_v from_o this_o vii_o challenge_v oftentimes_o you_o sin_v upon_o every_o small_a temptation_n and_o what_o will_v you_o answer_v to_o that_o must_v you_o not_o then_o confess_v it_o and_o say_v o_o how_o often_o have_v i_o desert_v christ_n and_o embrace_v my_o idol_n upon_o a_o small_a temdtation_n now_o i_o entreat_v you_o be_v think_v what_o you_o will_v answer_v to_o these_o seven_o most_o material_a challenge_n which_o certain_o shall_v be_v present_v to_o you_o at_o death_n i_o assure_v you_o you_o must_v either_o answer_v all_o your_o challenge_n in_o christ_n else_o you_o will_v not_o get_v they_o well_o answer_v therefore_o i_o will_v exhort_v you_o to_o embrace_v the_o gospel_n and_o christ_n in_o it_o that_o so_o let_v death_n propose_v never_o so_o many_o challenge_n unto_o you_o you_o may_v answer_v they_o all_o as_o david_n do_v viz._n god_n have_v make_v with_o i_o a_o everlasting_a covenant_n and_o that_o will_v answer_v all_o your_o challenge_n though_o my_o house_n be_v not_o so_o with_o god_n yet_o i_o have_v the_o everlasting_a covenant_n to_o build_v my_o salvation_n upon_o now_o to_o press_v you_o to_o make_v use_n of_o christ_n i_o shall_v give_v you_o these_o four_o consideration_n consideration_n 1._o if_o you_o embrace_v not_o christ_n now_o death_n will_v be_v very_o unpleasant_a to_o you_o o_o what_o else_o can_v comfort_v thou_o when_o go_v through_o the_o region_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n but_o this_o i_o be_o christ_n i_o be_o christ_n be_v there_o any_o other_o thing_n can_v comfort_v thou_o in_o that_o day_n but_o only_o this_o i_o be_o christ_n and_o he_o be_v i_o consideration_n 2._o if_o you_o embrace_v not_o christ_n and_o the_o great_a salvation_n now_o it_o will_v be_v a_o hundred_o to_o one_o if_o ever_o you_o get_v time_n or_o liberty_n to_o do_v it_o when_o you_o be_v go_v to_o die_v for_o although_o many_o delay_n their_o close_n with_o christ_n till_o death_n yet_o scarce_o one_o of_o a_o hundred_o get_v favour_n to_o grip_n christ_n at_o death_n therefore_o think_v on_o it_o for_o you_o will_v not_o get_v your_o mind_n so_o compose_v at_o death_n as_o you_o imagine_v nor_o all_o thing_n do_v as_o you_o suppose_v therefore_o now_o embrace_v the_o great_a salvation_n consideration_n 3._o if_o you_o delay_v your_o close_n with_o christ_n till_o death_n seize_v upon_o you_o you_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o make_v up_o that_o loss_n for_o will_v the_o dead_a rise_n and_o praise_n god_n or_o shall_v any_o come_v from_o the_o land_n of_o forgetfulness_n to_o take_v hold_n upon_o a_o crucify_a saviour_n therefore_o o_o will_v you_o take_v he_o for_o your_o salvation_n consideration_n 4._o if_o you_o will_v take_v christ_n now_o he_o shall_v be_v your_o guide_n when_o you_o be_v go_v through_o the_o valley_n and_o shadow_n of_o death_n and_o o_o how_o bless_a be_v the_o person_n that_o can_v sing_v that_o word_n psal._n 48._o 14._o this_o be_v my_o god_n he_o will_v be_v my_o guide_n even_o unto_o death_n if_o you_o can_v sing_v that_o pleasant_a song_n o_o how_o may_v you_o be_v comfort_v when_o your_o eye_n string_n shall_v begin_v to_o break_v o_o how_o happy_a be_v he_o who_o can_v say_v though_o i_o walk_v through_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n yet_o will_v i_o fear_v no_o ill_a 〈◊〉_d i_o know_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v with_o i_o now_o this_o be_v the_o acceptable_a day_n and_o the_o year_n of_o salvation_n therefore_o do_v not_o delay_v but_o embrace_v christ_n lest_o death_n surprise_v you_o ere_o you_o be_v aware_a and_o so_o the_o acceptable_a day_n be_v lose_v but_o unto_o these_o who_o think_v they_o may_v delay_v till_o death_n i_o say_v sure_o there_o be_v many_o damn_a atheist_n in_o hell_n that_o sometime_o do_v think_v as_o you_o think_v i_o will_v make_v all_o wrong_n right_a when_o death_n and_o i_o shall_v meet_v i_o hope_v that_o three_o day_n repentance_n will_v satisfy_v for_o all_o my_o wrong_n for_o i_o be_o sure_a there_o be_v many_o in_o hell_n who_o do_v never_o get_v three_o day_n to_o think_v upon_o their_o former_a way_n therefore_o o_o come_v come_v and_o embrace_v christ_n present_o now_o be_v you_o all_o persuade_v of_o this_o truth_n that_o you_o shall_v once_o see_v death_n then_o study_v a_o tender_a walk_n for_o believe_v i_o there_o be_v many_o of_o we_o who_o shall_v go_v through_o death_n with_o many_o bruise_a bone_n because_o of_o untender_a walk_n before_o god_n we_o know_v it_o be_v not_o the_o multitude_n of_o word_n can_v persuade_v you_o to_o embrace_v christ_n for_o many_o of_o you_o never_o mind_v the_o thing_n but_o believe_v i_o death_n will_v pâ—each_v these_o thing_n to_o you_o in_o a_o more_o terrible_a manner_n than_o we_o can_v do_v at_o this_o time_n therefore_o i_o say_v â—o_o each_o of_o you_o o_o prepare_v to_o meet_v thy_o god_n for_o if_o death_n find_v you_o in_o a_o estrange_a estate_n from_o god_n i_o defy_v the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n to_o free_v you_o out_o of_o that_o estate_n and_o the_o day_n be_v come_v wherein_o thou_o shall_v cry_v out_o o_o slight_a of_o the_o great_a salvation_n that_o i_o be_o i_o will_v give_v ten_o thousand_o world_n for_o one_o sermon_n again_o that_o i_o once_o hear_v wherein_o christ_n be_v free_o offer_v to_o i_o when_o king_n unto_o who_o all_o of_o we_o must_v be_v subject_a ere_o long_o now_o in_o the_o word_n which_o be_v read_v unto_o you_o there_o be_v these_o six_o thing_n which_o may_v be_v clear_o observe_v be_v that_o the_o psalmist_n double_v the_o assertion_n who_o be_v he_o that_o live_v and_o shall_v not_o see_v death_n shall_v he_o deliver_v his_o soul_n that_o be_v his_o life_n from_o the_o hand_n that_o be_v from_o the_o power_n of_o the_o grave_n iii_o three_o that_o sometime_o a_o christian_a may_v win_v to_o the_o solid_a faith_n of_o this_o truth_n that_o once_o he_o must_v die_v this_o the_o psalmist_n win_v unto_o as_o it_o be_v also_o clear_a in_o that_o word_n who_o who_o be_v he_o that_o live_v and_o shall_v not_o see_v death_n iv_o four_o that_o the_o certainty_n of_o this_o that_o once_o we_o shall_v die_v shall_v be_v still_o keep_v in_o our_o mind_n therefore_o that_o note_n of_o attention_n selah_n be_v put_v to_o it_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v take_v heed_n that_o there_o be_v none_o live_v that_o shall_v noâ—_n die_v v._o five_o that_o howbeit_o some_o person_n put_v the_o evil_a day_n far_o away_o as_o if_o they_o be_v not_o to_o see_v death_n yet_o be_v the_o day_n come_v when_o they_o shall_v see_v death_n and_o death_n shall_v take_v they_o by_o the_o hand_n vi_o sixthly_a we_o shall_v take_v notice_n of_o this_o from_o the_o context_n that_o the_o christian_n who_o be_v much_o in_o mind_v the_o brevity_n of_o his_o life_n will_v believe_v the_o certainty_n of_o his_o death_n the_o psalmist_n be_v speak_v of_o the_o shortness_n of_o his_o life_n in_o the_o precede_a verse_n and_o in_o this_o verse_n he_o speak_v of_o the_o certainty_n of_o death_n now_o as_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o thing_n observe_v viz._n that_o it_o be_v certain_a and_o most_o sure_a that_o we_o must_v all_o once_o die_v i_o hope_v there_o be_v none_o of_o you_o here_o who_o will_v deny_v it_o although_o i_o confess_v few_o of_o you_o believe_v it_o yet_o say_v the_o woman_n of_o tekâ—ah_n 2_o sam._n 14._o we_o must_v all_o die_v and_o be_v like_o water_n spill_v upon_o the_o ground_n that_o can_v be_v gather_v up_o again_o etc._n etc._n god_n do_v not_o be_v no_o discharge_n in_o that_o war_n neither_o shall_v wickedness_n deliver_v
labour_n shall_v end_v but_o their_o work_n shall_v not_o be_v forget_v as_o be_v clear_a from_o that_o forecited_a place_n revel_v 14._o 13._o they_o rest_v from_o their_o labour_n and_o their_o work_n follow_v they_o and_o be_v not_o that_o a_o glorious_a advantage_n vi_o the_o six_o consideration_n to_o press_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n be_v this_o viz._n that_o death_n may_v come_v upon_o you_o ere_o you_o be_v awar_n you_o know_v not_o but_o death_n may_v surprise_v you_o this_o night_n before_o you_o go_v home_o to_o your_o house_n and_o therefore_o let_v that_o press_v you_o to_o study_v a_o constant_a preparation_n for_o death_n vii_o the_o seven_o consideration_n to_o press_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n be_v this_o viz._n that_o as_o death_n leave_v you_o so_o will_v judgement_n find_v you_o if_o death_n shall_v leave_v you_o stranger_n to_o christ_n you_o shall_v appear_v before_o his_o judgement_n seat_n stranger_n unto_o he_o therefore_o i_o entreat_v you_o all_o to_o prepare_v for_o it_o i_o think_v that_o noble_a practice_n of_o paul_n exceed_v worthy_a of_o imitation_n 1_o cor._n 15._o 13._o i_o die_v daily_o which_o i_o think_v do_v comprehend_v these_o three_o thing_n 1._o that_o paul_n have_v death_n always_o in_o his_o sight_n 2._o it_o comprehend_v this_o that_o he_o endeavour_v to_o keep_v such_o a_o frame_n as_o that_o every_o moment_n he_o shall_v be_v ready_a to_o die_v so_o that_o whensoever_o death_n shall_v put_v the_o summons_n in_o his_o hand_n he_o shall_v be_v content_a to_o answer_v 3._o it_o comprehend_v this_o that_o he_o labour_v to_o lay_v aside_o and_o remove_v all_o thing_n out_o of_o the_o way_n that_o may_v detain_v he_o from_o lay_v down_o his_o tabernacle_n o_o say_v paul_n i_o labour_v so_o to_o clear_v myself_o of_o all_o hindrance_n as_o that_o when_o ever_o i_o shall_v be_v summon_v to_o remove_v out_o of_o time_n i_o may_v willing_o lay_v down_o my_o life_n thus_o paul_n desire_v always_o to_o have_v his_o latter_a will_v clear_v therefore_o i_o will_v ask_v you_o this_o question_n viz._n when_o do_v you_o make_v your_o last_o testament_n i_o think_v it_o be_v suitable_a for_o we_o to_o be_v renew_v our_o latter_a will_n every_o day_n for_o in_o so_o do_v paul_n make_v a_o excellent_a testament_n the_o better_a of_o which_o none_o that_o die_v since_o have_v make_v 2_o there_o be_v lay_v up_o for_o i_o a_o crown_n of_o righteousness_n which_o the_o lord_n the_o righteous_a judge_n shall_v give_v i_o at_o that_o day_n and_o think_v you_o not_o that_o very_o sweet_a and_o he_o will_v leave_v some_o thing_n unto_o you_o in_o christ_n name_n viz._n and_o not_o for_o i_o only_o but_o for_o all_o they_o that_o wait_v for_o his_o appearance_n now_o i_o come_v to_o the_o three_o thing_n propose_v viz._n to_o give_v you_o some_o direction_n for_o help_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n direct_v 1._o i_o entreat_v you_o be_v much_o in_o preparation_n for_o death_n every_o day_n for_o it_o be_v even_o a_o preparation_n for_o heaven_n to_o be_v take_v a_o sight_n of_o your_o grave_n and_o latter_a end_n every_o day_n direct_v 2._o i_o entreat_v you_o he_o much_o in_o these_o duty_n first_o in_o self_n examination_n that_o your_o count_v may_v be_v clear_a with_o god_n for_o many_o a_o ragged_a count_n will_v we_o have_v when_o death_n and_o we_o shall_v meet_v second_o be_v much_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o repentance_n that_o so_o you_o may_v have_v every_o fault_n of_o corruption_n in_o you_o mourn_v for_o before_o death_n and_o you_o meet_v three_o be_v much_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a four_o be_v much_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o mortification_n and_o that_o will_v help_v you_o to_o keep_v a_o loose_a grip_n not_o only_o of_o the_o world_n but_o also_o of_o your_o other_o idol_n and_o if_o you_o be_v much_o in_o these_o you_o shall_v undoubted_o be_v prepare_v for_o death_n direct_v 3._o be_v much_o in_o mind_v the_o excellent_a thing_n of_o heaven_n a_o christian_n that_o will_v be_v prepare_v for_o death_n will_v have_v all_o his_o thought_n and_o conversation_n there_o i_o think_v it_o will_v be_v a_o excellent_a help_n in_o preparation_n for_o death_n to_o take_v a_o sight_n of_o the_o crown_n every_o day_n direct_v 4._o labour_v always_o to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n void_a of_o offence_n towards_o god_n and_o man_n 〈◊〉_d i_o say_v labour_v to_o keep_v thy_o conscience_n clear_a and_o that_o shall_v be_v a_o continual_a feast_n unto_o thou_o direct_v 5._o 'slight_o not_o thy_o know_a duty_n do_v not_o crucify_v any_o conviction_n neither_o break_v any_o resolution_n put_v these_o three_o together_o and_o that_o will_v exceed_o help_v you_o to_o prepare_v for_o death_n i_o say_v see_v that_o you_o adventure_v not_o to_o slight_v any_o know_a duty_n see_v that_o you_o adventure_v not_o to_o crucify_v any_o truth_n that_o we_o shall_v once_o see_v death_n be_v not_o much_o believe_v by_o many_o of_o we_o and_o to_o make_v this_o appear_v we_o shall_v only_o give_v some_o evidence_n unto_o you_o to_o prove_v that_o we_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o prepare_v for_o death_n i._o evidence_n do_v not_o the_o unspeakable_a stupidity_n that_o have_v overtake_v many_o say_v that_o we_o be_v not_o a_o people_n prepare_v for_o death_n alas_o many_o of_o we_o will_v find_v ourselves_o in_o a_o most_o stupid_a temper_n if_o we_o be_v present_o to_o die_v for_o many_o of_o we_o be_v no_o more_o move_v with_o the_o threaten_n and_o terrout_n of_o god_n then_o if_o they_o do_v not_o belong_v unto_o we_o and_o this_o say_v we_o be_v not_o as_o yet_o prepare_v for_o death_n ii_o evidence_n that_o we_o be_v not_o prepare_v for_o death_n be_v our_o pursue_v so_o much_o after_o the_o vain_a and_o pass_a delight_n of_o a_o present_a world_n many_o of_o we_o rise_v up_o early_o and_o go_v late_a to_o bed_n at_o night_n and_o eat_v the_o bread_n of_o sorrow_n all_o the_o day_n and_o load_v themselves_o with_o thick_a clay_n and_o i_o be_o sure_a that_o such_o a_o person_n be_v night_n and_o day_n take_v up_o with_o the_o world_n be_v not_o prepare_v for_o death_n i_o remember_v a_o word_n record_v of_o such_o a_o wretched_a one_o who_o be_v exceed_o rich_a say_v he_o i_o will_v give_v so_o many_o thousand_o of_o money_n if_o death_n will_v give_v i_o but_o one_o day_n yet_o he_o get_v it_o not_o and_o o_o how_o sudden_o will_v death_n surprise_v many_o of_o you_o as_o it_o do_v he_o iii_o evidence_n which_o speak_v forth_o our_o unpreparednesse_n for_o death_n be_v our_o impatience_n under_o every_o petty_a cross_n that_o we_o meet_v with_o for_o the_o prepare_a christian_n will_v be_v patient_a under_o very_o sharp_a cross_n iv._o evidence_n that_o we_o be_v not_o prepare_v be_v our_o not_o endeavour_v to_o live_v within_o sight_n of_o our_o interest_n in_o god_n oh_o if_o we_o be_v prepare_v for_o death_n dare_v we_o live_v in_o so_o much_o uncertainty_n of_o our_o interest_n in_o god_n and_o of_o our_o assurance_n of_o heaven_n v._o evidence_n some_o of_o we_o can_v let_v our_o idol_n lie_v in_o our_o breast_n six_o year_n without_o repentance_n and_o will_v never_o study_v to_o mortify_v they_o nor_o to_o repent_v for_o they_o and_o sure_o such_o be_v not_o prepare_v for_o death_n now_o i_o entreat_v you_o serious_o to_o mind_n what_o have_v be_v say_v and_o that_o you_o may_v the_o more_o serious_o think_v upon_o it_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o some_o material_a challenge_n that_o your_o conscience_n at_o death_n will_v present_v unto_o you_o therefore_o take_v heed_n that_o you_o may_v know_v how_o you_o will_v answer_v i._o challenge_n be_v the_o slight_n of_o much_o precious_a time_n and_o sin_v away_o the_o precious_a offer_n of_o grace_n o_o what_o will_v you_o answer_v to_o that_o challenge_n when_o death_n shall_v present_v it_o to_o you_o death_n will_v say_v or_o rather_o thou_o own_o conscience_n at_o death_n what_o ail_v thou_o to_o sin_n away_o so_o many_o hour_n without_o either_o pray_v read_v or_o meditatingâ—_n now_o have_v you_o any_o thing_n to_o answer_v when_o death_n shall_v present_v this_o challenge_n to_o you_o i_o entreat_v you_o premeditate_v what_o you_o will_v say_v i_o entreat_v you_o prevent_v death_n by_o present_v it_o first_o serious_o to_o
then_o shall_v i_o do_v when_o god_n rise_v up_o and_o when_o he_o visit_v what_o shall_v i_o answer_v he_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v sir_n mistake_v i_o not_o i_o be_o not_o boast_v much_o of_o myself_o for_o i_o can_v not_o have_v do_v otherwise_o else_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v when_o god_n rise_v up_o how_o can_v i_o answer_v to_o god_n if_o i_o have_v do_v otherwise_o i_o think_v it_o be_v a_o notable_a practice_n for_o each_o of_o you_o when_o temptation_n begin_v to_o assault_v you_o to_o say_v o_o temptation_n what_o will_v i_o answer_v to_o god_n when_o he_o rise_v up_o to_o reprove_v i_o if_o i_o shall_v yield_v unto_o thou_o likewise_o eccles_n 11._o 9_o where_o solomon_n dissuade_v young_a man_n to_o pursue_v after_o vanity_n bring_v this_o as_o a_o reason_n know_v it_o will_v make_v a_o christian_a very_o careful_a in_o prepare_v for_o death_n it_o be_v impossible_a for_o one_o to_o believe_v real_o that_o death_n be_v approach_v and_o not_o to_o prepare_v for_o it_o say_v what_o you_o will_v if_o you_o be_v not_o careful_a in_o prepare_v for_o death_n you_o have_v not_o the_o solid_a faith_n of_o this_o truth_n that_o you_o shall_v die_v believe_v i_o it_o be_v not_o every_o one_o that_o think_v he_o believe_v this_o truth_n that_o believe_v it_o indeed_o and_o o_o how_o dreadful_a be_v it_o for_o a_o unprepared_a man_n to_o meet_v with_o death_n he_o desire_v not_o to_o die_v yea_o he_o will_v give_v a_o world_n for_o his_o life_n but_o die_v must_v he_o whether_o he_o will_v or_o not_o for_o death_n will_v not_o be_v request_v to_o spare_v their_o heart_n be_v die_v and_o sink_v like_o unto_o a_o stone_n within_o they_o they_o be_v no_o more_o affect_v with_o death_n then_o if_o it_o be_v a_o fancy_n alas_o for_o the_o great_a stupidity_n that_o have_v overtake_v many_o therefore_o i_o entreat_v you_o delay_v not_o your_o repentance_n till_o death_n leave_v the_o lord_n take_v away_o your_o wit_n so_o that_o you_o can_v then_o repent_v for_o your_o senselessness_n and_o stupid_a frame_n of_o spirit_n 2._o a_o second_o sort_n we_o find_v in_o a_o presumptuous_a frame_n say_v they_o have_v have_v a_o good_a hope_n all_o their_o day_n and_o they_o will_v not_o quit_v it_o now_o they_o will_v go_v down_o to_o the_o grave_n with_o their_o hope_n in_o their_o right_a hand_n or_o rather_o they_o will_v go_v down_o to_o the_o grave_n with_o a_o lie_n in_o their_o right_a hand_n they_o live_v in_o a_o presumptuous_a frame_n and_o they_o die_v in_o the_o same_o delusion_n for_o when_o we_o tell_v they_o that_o by_o all_o probability_n they_o be_v go_v down_o to_o hell_n they_o answer_v god_n forbid_v i_o be_v all_o my_o time_n a_o very_a honest_a man_n or_o woman_n but_o i_o love_v not_o that_o confession_n for_o there_o be_v many_o such_o honest_a man_n and_o woman_n in_o hell_n this_o day_n 3._o the_o three_o sort_n we_o find_v have_v some_o conviction_n that_o they_o have_v be_v play_v the_o fool_n all_o their_o day_n but_o we_o can_v get_v they_o no_o further_o i_o shall_v only_o say_v to_o such_o to_o go_v down_o to_o the_o grâ—ve_n with_o conviction_n in_o their_o breast_n not_o make_v use_n of_o christ_n be_v to_o go_v down_o to_o hell_n 〈◊〉_d a_o caâ—â—â—e_n in_o their_o hand_n to_o let_v they_o see_v the_o way_n and_o true_o the_o great_a part_n that_o die_v die_v in_o this_o manner_n 4._o four_o there_o be_v some_o who_o we_o find_v in_o a_o self_n righteous_a frame_n trust_v upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o their_o own_o merit_n and_o trust_v by_o these_o to_o go_v to_o heaven_n yet_o neglect_v the_o offer_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n but_o alas_o we_o find_v not_o one_o of_o a_o thousand_o in_o this_o frame_n i_o desire_v to_o be_v dissolve_v and_o be_v with_o christ_n that_o be_v best_o of_o all_o and_o scarce_o do_v we_o find_v any_o in_o such_o a_o frame_n o_o wretched_a man_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o the_o body_n of_o this_o death_n therefore_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o all_o who_o be_v here_o o_o will_v you_o mind_n death_n before_o it_o take_v hold_v on_o you_o oh_o mind_n your_o work_n now_o for_o you_o will_v find_v that_o death_n shall_v be_v work_n enough_o for_o itself_o though_o you_o leave_v no_o work_n till_o then_o viii_o the_o eight_o advantage_n that_o attend_v the_o christian_a believe_v this_o truth_n not_o be_v think_v on_o death_n before_o it_o come_v so_o as_o to_o prepare_v for_o it_o and_o i_o fear_v many_o in_o this_o place_n may_v be_v fear_v for_o death_n and_o that_o when_o it_o come_v to_o they_o they_o will_v say_v unto_o death_n at_o ahab_n say_v to_o elijah_n have_v thou_o find_v i_o o_o my_o enemy_n sure_o â—â—ath_n will_v take_v you_o and_o bring_v you_o to_o the_o judgement_n seat_n of_o christ_n
