towards_o we_o can_v be_v doubt_v when_o the_o scripture_n every_o where_o make_v he_o our_o helper_n from_o his_o mere_a grace_n if_o we_o lend_v our_o arm_n or_o hand_n to_o help_v one_o be_v no_o way_n tie_v to_o it_o it_o be_v a_o help_n give_v from_o our_o free_a favour_n that_o his_o call_n inward_a or_o outward_a and_o habit_n of_o grace_n wrought_v in_o we_o may_v be_v fit_o call_v grace_n effectual_o helpful_a to_o the_o act_n bring_v forth_o by_o they_o none_o deni_v though_o all_o will_v not_o have_v habit_n needful_a to_o our_o first_o coversion_n and_o this_o first_o thing_n be_v well_o to_o be_v note_v for_o from_o hence_o we_o may_v gather_v in_o what_o stand_v the_o efficacy_n of_o grace_n effectual_a to_o conversion_n viz._n in_o god_n effectual_a power_n put_v forth_o to_o execute_v his_o intention_n which_o he_o have_v of_o convert_n some_o actual_o before_o othersome_a it_o do_v not_o stand_v in_o any_o congruity_n or_o temperature_n of_o grace_n correspondent_a to_o our_o nature_n for_o this_o do_v argue_v that_o there_o be_v inward_o a_o incorrupted_a a_o connaturall_a disposition_n to_o receive_v grace_n this_o make_v the_o effect_n of_o conversion_n to_o depend_v as_o much_o on_o the_o active_a capacity_n of_o the_o will_n as_o on_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n nay_o more_o for_o it_o make_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n work_v it_o moral_o and_o external_o and_o the_o will_n of_o man_n from_o a_o power_n within_o itself_o which_o do_v more_o inward_o enter_v the_o effect_n of_o conversion_n than_o the_o other_o as_o he_o who_o persuade_v i_o to_o give_v a_o alm_n be_v not_o the_o cause_n of_o it_o so_o essential_o as_o i_o be_o who_o out_o of_o my_o pleasure_n give_v it_o upon_o his_o first_o motion_n to_o the_o second_o i_o answer_v that_o god_n do_v use_v so_o to_o work_v our_o come_n to_o he_o by_o belief_n that_o he_o do_v first_o for_o the_o most_o part_n prepare_v we_o thereunto_o as_o before_o we_o engraffe_v a_o sience_n we_o cut_v it_o and_o set_v it_o for_o incision_n and_o if_o a_o timber_n log_n lie_v sink_v into_o mud_n man_n set_v to_o their_o tackle_n first_o to_o draw_v it_o out_o of_o the_o mire_n before_o they_o lay_v it_o on_o cart_n to_o carry_v it_o away_o thus_o god_n do_v by_o his_o power_n often_o work_v some_o preservative_n change_v in_o a_o sinner_n before_o he_o do_v by_o his_o power_n and_o word_n work_v the_o spirit_n of_o faith_n in_o they_o and_o make_v they_o come_v to_o he_o thus_o god_n by_o affliction_n be_v say_v to_o boar_n the_o ear_n and_o to_o prepare_v to_o conversion_n when_o manasses_n be_v humble_v in_o great_a misery_n he_o seek_v the_o lord_n thus_o by_o conviction_n of_o sin_n they_o be_v prick_v in_o heart_n and_o say_v what_o shall_v we_o do_v to_o be_v save_v and_o then_o speedy_o receive_v the_o gospel_n believe_v sometime_o by_o extraordinary_a terror_n rise_v from_o external_a accident_n yea_o hide_a natural_a cause_n thus_o the_o jailor_n be_v prepare_v and_o paul_n himself_o by_o a_o extraordinary_a vision_n be_v bring_v to_o great_a astonishment_n sometime_o by_o restrain_v give_v common_a gift_n which_o make_v man_n for_o degree_n near_o that_o be_v in_o their_o kind_n and_o state_n not_o so_o much_o remove_v as_o other_o in_o the_o same_o state_n and_o kind_a with_o they_o thus_o christ_n say_v to_o the_o young_a man_n who_o be_v rich_a and_o unconuert_v that_o he_o be_v near_o the_o kingdom_n nay_o god_n may_v by_o give_v a_o man_n up_o to_o height_n of_o some_o sin_n or_o sin_n prepare_v one_o to_o grace_n in_o who_o none_o of_o these_o preparative_n operation_n can_v take_v place_n second_o we_o do_v not_o find_v that_o they_o have_v be_v always_o use_v and_o therefore_o this_o matter_n be_v to_o be_v understand_v as_o a_o thing_n most_o common_o fall_v forth_o not_o otherwise_o how_o be_v matthew_n call_v even_o at_o his_o custom_n he_o follow_v present_o not_o as_o judas_n but_o as_o grace_n further_o than_o god_n intend_v this_o effect_n by_o they_o fear_v of_o hell_n conscience_n of_o sin_n never_o such_o affliction_n moral_a part_n and_o all_o gift_n which_o may_v be_v without_o sanctify_a grace_n and_o true_a belief_n many_o have_v all_o these_o who_o yet_o never_o turn_v unfeigned_o to_o god_n when_o the_o sickness_n be_v now_o grow_v great_a in_o quantity_n this_o absolute_o take_v make_v the_o patient_a further_o of_o health_n but_o the_o physician_n may_v intend_v this_o because_o he_o do_v see_v his_o medicine_n will_v the_o better_a work_n on_o it_o and_o educe_v it_o when_o it_o be_v grow_v to_o such_o ripeness_n if_o a_o man_n fall_v out_o of_o a_o dead_a palsy_n into_o a_o light_a frenzy_n frenzy_n of_o itself_o be_v no_o paration_n to_o health_n but_o to_o the_o physician_n who_o can_v work_v on_o he_o more_o fit_o in_o this_o take_n then_o in_o the_o other_o it_o may_v be_v a_o preparative_n to_o health_n thus_o to_o be_v like_o a_o aguish_a man_n on_o his_o good_a day_n or_o like_v to_o some_o mad_a man_n in_o the_o time_n of_o their_o intermission_n be_v in_o itself_o as_o far_o from_o state_n of_o health_n as_o otherwise_o but_o yet_o the_o physician_n may_v use_v such_o a_o state_n as_o a_o way_n to_o health_n choose_v rather_o to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o this_o take_n then_o in_o the_o fit_n thus_o it_o be_v not_o the_o height_n of_o sin_n it_o be_v not_o fear_v of_o hell_n though_o contrary_a to_o the_o apoplexy_n of_o deep_a security_n it_o be_v not_o a_o moral_a course_n which_o come_v not_o from_o true_a sanctification_n that_o of_o themselves_o can_v make_v near_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n but_o only_o in_o regard_n of_o god_n who_o do_v intend_v to_o turn_v they_o hereunto_o thus_o if_o god_n immortal_a seed_n come_v to_o be_v sow_v in_o we_o beside_o that_o a_o man_n be_v no_o soon_o call_v than_o he_o receive_v a_o spirit_n of_o faith_n by_o which_o he_o be_v as_o by_o a_o new_a heavenly_a form_n in_o some_o manner_n quicken_v five_o the_o papist_n doctrine_n be_v here_o very_o defective_a and_o false_a in_o part_n defective_a for_o they_o speak_v nothing_o of_o preparatory_a course_n by_o which_o god_n do_v bring_v we_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o by_o faith_n but_o of_o such_o like_a operation_n by_o which_o god_n prepare_v we_o and_o we_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o be_v justify_v now_o we_o prepare_v ourselves_o to_o justification_n when_o the_o spirit_n do_v without_o any_o habit_n of_o grace_n lift_v we_o up_o to_o supernatural_a act_n of_o belief_n hope_v in_o god_n love_n sorrow_n for_o sin_n and_o fear_v of_o hell_n in_o which_o many_o thing_n be_v erroneous_a as_o first_o that_o they_o make_v we_o lift_v up_o to_o act_n of_o this_o nature_n without_o habit_n which_o be_v to_o make_v a_o blind_a man_n see_v without_o give_v his_o eye_n new_a sight_n to_o make_v we_o bring_v good_a fruit_n while_o yet_o we_o be_v not_o make_v good_a tree_n to_o make_v we_o be_v justify_v by_o our_o faith_n come_v into_o grace_n by_o our_o faith_n stand_v in_o grace_n by_o another_o the_o school_n not_o understand_v the_o doctrine_n of_o preparation_n consider_v of_o it_o philosophical_o as_o a_o thing_n between_o nature_n and_o grace_n now_o between_o the_o thing_n we_o work_v out_o of_o natural_a strength_n and_o those_o we_o do_v meritorious_o from_o grace_n now_o infuse_v into_o we_o and_o inherent_a in_o we_o they_o devise_v a_o three_o kind_n of_o work_n which_o neither_o come_v from_o any_o power_n of_o we_o mere_o nor_o yet_o from_o any_o supernatural_a grace_n inherent_a in_o we_o and_o these_o be_v work_n do_v by_o eternal_a aid_n of_o the_o spirit_n whereas_o all_o the_o scripture_n make_v that_o faith_n which_o be_v require_v to_o justification_n to_o be_v the_o same_o with_o that_o which_o work_v by_o love_n to_o be_v a_o faith_n full_o form_v come_v from_o a_o spirit_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v a_o habitual_a guilt_n wrought_v by_o the_o spirit_n to_o be_v a_o faith_n believe_v on_o god_n which_o the_o best_a pillar_n of_o popish_a learning_n confess_v to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o form_a faith_n beside_o they_o err_v when_o they_o make_v fear_n of_o hell_n a_o thing_n immediate_o dispose_v to_o justification_n when_o the_o work_n of_o this_o be_v to_o move_v we_o to_o seek_v out_o of_o ourselves_o after_o some_o word_n of_o faith_n and_o this_o be_v cast_v forth_o proportionable_o as_o faith_n and_o love_n enter_v it_o may_v prepare_v to_o our_o conversion_n not_o to_o our_o justification_n immediate_o again_o when_o they_o make_v love_v actual_a to_o go_v before_o justification_n whereas_o love_n do_v follow_v for_o we_o love_v because_o we_o have_v find_v love_n first_o now_o no_o love_n be_v feel_v from_o god_n till_o remission_n of_o sin_n and_o acceptance_n to_o life_n in_o some_o measure_n be_v feel_v &_o perceive_v shall_v god_n lift_v we_o up_o to_o love_v he_o before_o his_o justification_n he_o shall_v by_o make_v we_o love_v he_o prepare_v we_o to_o be_v love_v of_o he_o she_o love_v much_o because_o much_o be_v forgive_v she_o in_o a_o word_n set_v aside_o the_o act_n of_o a_o true_a faith_n come_v from_o a_o inward_a gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n incline_v the_o heart_n to_o believe_v there_o be_v no_o other_o thing_n prepare_v to_o justification_n immediate_o where_o this_o be_v there_o together_o in_o time_n justification_n be_v receive_v there_o the_o spirit_n of_o love_n and_o hope_n be_v not_o want_v he_o who_o believe_v be_v pass_v from_o death_n to_o life_n nevertheless_o we_o do_v long_o after_o not_o feel_v ourselves_o justify_v nor_o perceive_v grace_n to_o dwell_v in_o we_o so_o full_o and_o manifest_o as_o we_o desire_v hence_o it_o be_v that_o sometime_o we_o be_v in_o fear_n sometime_o believe_v hope_v sometime_o we_o be_v in_o repentant_a sorrow_n and_o by_o these_o we_o be_v lead_v both_o to_o the_o manifest_a perceive_v of_o jailor_n to_o tremble_v be_v a_o matter_n argue_v a_o mighty_a power_n again_o to_o give_v a_o hand_n or_o eye_n to_o one_o blind_a and_o maim_a be_v much_o but_o the_o hand_n and_o eye_n of_o faith_n but_o who_o can_v resist_v in_o that_o which_o god_n almighty_a power_n be_v put_v forth_o to_o work_v can_v his_o power_n be_v resist_v it_o be_v not_o almighty_a last_o we_o may_v see_v hence_o how_o many_o person_n deceive_v themselves_o who_o think_v faith_n but_o a_o matter_n of_o opinion_n or_o a_o imagination_n of_o thing_n absent_a who_o though_o they_o never_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o god_n work_v in_o they_o yet_o persuade_v themselves_o they_o have_v faith_n as_o well_o as_o another_o as_o if_o it_o be_v so_o sleight_v a_o thing_n which_o no_o less_o power_n must_v work_v
