have_v put_v into_o herb_n etc._n etc._n may_v restore_v they_o to_o their_o health_n but_o they_o who_o be_v spiritual_o sick_a and_o yet_o wilful_o refuse_v to_o know_v or_o acknowledge_v it_o can_v not_o while_o they_o so_o continue_v receive_v any_o good_a by_o spiritual_a physic_n neither_o will_n christ_n the_o great_a physician_n of_o soul_n take_v in_o hand_n to_o cure_v they_o luk._n 5.30_o 31_o 32._o 2_o such_o as_o daily_o cast_v their_o soul_n into_o new_a disease_n there_o be_v two_o principal_a mean_n of_o preserve_a health_n and_o prevent_a disease_n diet_n and_o exercise_n but_o for_o the_o former_a as_o it_o be_v hos_n 12.1_o many_o so_o feed_v themselves_o with_o vain_a and_o impious_a principle_n not_o only_o speculative_a but_o practical_a that_o thereby_o the_o mind_n and_o heart_n and_o whole_a man_n fall_v into_o sundry_a and_o great_a distemper_n some_o eat_v the_o bread_n of_o wickedness_n and_o drink_v the_o wine_n of_o violence_n prov._n 1.17_o 18_o 19_o &_o 4.17_o some_o eat_v the_o bread_n of_o deceit_n which_o be_v sweet_a at_o the_o first_o taste_v but_o afterward_o fill_v the_o mouth_n with_o gravel_n prov._n 20.17_o some_o swallow_v down_o riches_n ill_o get_v which_o prove_v the_o gall_n of_o asp_n within_o they_o job_n 20.14_o 15._o some_o by_o oppression_n swallow_v up_o the_o needy_a amos_n 8.4_o and_o be_v it_o any_o wonder_n if_o such_o diet_n breed_v disease_n so_o for_o exercise_n many_o give_v themselves_o to_o spiritual_a idleness_n altogether_o neglect_v the_o exercise_n of_o piety_n and_o so_o both_o of_o themselves_o contract_v abundance_n of_o ill_a humour_n and_o also_o give_v the_o devil_n opportunity_n to_o infect_v their_o soul_n with_o his_o temptation_n yea_o tempt_v he_o to_o it_o stand_v water_n putrify_v breed_v frog_n noisome_a vermin_n etc._n etc._n again_o this_o doctrine_n as_o it_o inform_v we_o of_o our_o misery_n consol_n consol_n so_o it_o minister_n unto_o we_o some_o comfort_n i_o against_o the_o trouble_n which_o arise_v from_o the_o sense_n of_o these_o disease_n for_o as_o the_o disease_n themselves_o be_v common_a less_o or_o more_o to_o all_o god_n child_n in_o this_o life_n so_o the_o sense_n and_o trouble_v arise_v thereupon_o be_v a_o good_a both_o sign_n &_o cause_n of_o amendment_n we_o may_v and_o aught_o while_o we_o live_v here_o to_o be_v daily_o gather_v strength_n against_o these_o disease_n but_o perfect_a and_o uninterrupted_a health_n be_v to_o be_v expect_v only_o in_o heaven_n 2_o against_o the_o imperfection_n of_o our_o good_a work_n if_o grieve_v for_o what_o be_v want_v in_o they_o we_o serious_o and_o diligent_o endeavour_v to_o grow_v in_o grace_n and_o holiness_n he_o be_v a_o cruel_a master_n that_o shall_v require_v the_o same_o work_n of_o a_o sick_a which_o he_o do_v of_o a_o sound_a servant_n the_o father_n of_o mercy_n who_o know_v our_o mould_n and_o temper_n how_o weak_a and_o sickly_a our_o soul_n be_v do_v not_o expect_v from_o we_o a_o conversation_n so_o every_o way_n perfect_a in_o all_o point_n as_o he_o do_v from_o adam_n in_o the_o first_o covenant_n but_o if_o he_o see_v we_o true_o sorry_a for_o our_o imperfection_n and_o daily_o to_o our_o power_n endeavour_v towards_o great_a perfection_n he_o accept_v of_o our_o endeavour_n in_o christ_n and_o pardon_n what_o be_v want_v two_o thing_n we_o be_v here_o to_o be_v exhort_v to_o exhort_v exhort_v 1_o to_o withstand_v these_o disease_n as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v both_o by_o way_n of_o prevention_n and_o by_o way_n of_o remedy_n motiv_n 1._o from_o the_o worth_n and_o price_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o subject_n of_o these_o disease_n 2_o from_o the_o great_a and_o imminent_a danger_n wherein_o it_o be_v by_o reason_n of_o they_o 3_o from_o the_o difficulty_n of_o overcome_v they_o 4_o from_o the_o possibility_n notwithstanding_o of_o do_v it_o in_o some_o competent_a measure_n by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n grace_n mean_n 1_o withdraw_v whatsoever_o may_v nourish_v or_o foster_v these_o disease_n 2_o feed_v upon_o the_o sincere_a milk_n and_o solid_a meat_n of_o god_n word_n and_o exercise_v the_o grace_n of_o his_o holy_a spirit_n heal_n consist_v as_o before_o it_o be_v say_v of_o disease_n so_o there_o be_v the_o same_o reason_n of_o contrary_n heal_v also_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d both_o for_o its_o proper_a subject_n the_o body_n natural_a ill_o affect_v by_o some_o disease_n or_o wound_n but_o by_o metaphor_n it_o may_v be_v transfer_v to_o other_o thing_n also_o for_o as_o in_o the_o proper_a sense_n he_o be_v say_v to_o heal_v who_o take_v away_o that_o which_o hinder_v the_o health_n of_o the_o body_n so_o in_o the_o metaphorical_a he_o who_o take_v away_o from_o any_o thing_n that_o which_o hinder_v the_o well_o be_v of_o it_o so_o 2_o king_n 2.21_o 22._o psal_n 60.2_o and_o thus_o it_o be_v often_o transfer_v to_o the_o soul_n though_o here_o the_o similitude_n hold_v not_o in_o every_o point_n for_o in_o the_o body_n nature_n be_v free_v from_o the_o noxious_a humour_n do_v of_o itself_o breed_v good_a blood_n and_o supply_v it_o to_o the_o repair_v the_o strength_n of_o the_o whole_a impair_v by_o the_o disease_n but_o in_o the_o soul_n after_o lapse_n there_o be_v no_o power_n to_o any_o save_a good_a 2_o how_o this_o heal_n be_v wrought_v namely_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n use_v the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o the_o
blessing_n as_o the_o heal_a the_o disease_n of_o their_o soul_n etc._n etc._n so_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o act_n some_o give_v thanks_o in_o word_n but_o not_o in_o deed_n and_o so_o not_o with_o the_o heart_n which_o have_v command_v of_o the_o whole_a man_n nor_o with_o the_o mind_n or_o else_o they_o detain_v the_o truth_n in_o unrighteousness_n last_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o intensnesse_n of_o the_o act_n some_o do_v it_o but_o cold_o faint_o careless_o not_o diligent_o fervent_o with_o all_o the_o heart_n with_o all_o the_o soul_n with_o all_o the_o mind_n and_o with_o all_o the_o strength_n 3_o such_o as_o do_v not_o think_v this_o heal_n to_o be_v a_o benefit_n and_o so_o neither_o a_o cause_n of_o thankfulness_n as_o be_v in_o love_n with_o their_o disease_n and_o therefore_o neither_o do_v they_o desire_v it_o at_o all_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a when_o god_n by_o his_o minister_n offer_v to_o heal_v they_o they_o be_v angry_a and_o murmur_n at_o they_o and_o return_v injury_n in_o stead_n of_o thanks_o 4_o such_o as_o give_v thanks_o for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o their_o disease_n 1_o sam._n 23.21_o zech._n 11.5_o the_o exhortation_n arise_v with_o who_o he_o enter_v a_o single_a combat_n by_o the_o envy_n of_o saul_n etc._n etc._n after_o he_o be_v come_v to_o the_o kingdom_n by_o many_o foreign_a enemy_n with_o who_o he_o have_v continual_a war_n more_o particular_o see_v 2_o sam._n 21.15_o 16._o by_o comesticall_a treason_n and_o rebellion_n of_o abner_n and_o the_o house_n of_o saul_n of_o absalorn_a and_o achitophel_n psal_n 36.6_o heb._n 1.3_o yet_o his_o providence_n have_v its_o degree_n as_o be_v more_o intense_o exercise_v about_o thing_n of_o more_o worth_n 1_o cor._n 9.9_o now_o of_o all_o outward_a thing_n executor_n &_o administrator_n make_v many_o provisos_fw-la in_o behalf_n of_o posterity_n but_o they_o lay_v their_o worldly_a project_n for_o one_o seven_o ten_o twenty_o year_n without_o once_o look_v after_o any_o proviso_n for_o their_o own_o eternal_a security_n if_o death_n happen_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n kind_a heart_n that_o be_v so_o much_o more_o careful_a of_o the_o outward_a
