transmute_v alter_a and_o restore_a we_o as_o the_o arcanaes_n of_o god_n according_a to_o their_o proper_a induction_n and_o order_n and_o although_o there_o be_v not_o in_o our_o arcanaes_n a_o eternity_n or_o that_o celestial_a harmony_n yet_o ne_o vertheless_o they_o be_v in_o comparison_n of_o we_o to_o be_v adjudge_v as_o celestial_a for_o as_o much_o as_o they_o conserve_v our_o body_n more_o than_o â—s_v possible_a to_o nature_n or_o can_v be_v search_v out_o and_o do_v operate_v thereupon_o by_o their_o virtue_n after_o a_o wonderful_a manner_n and_o therefore_o these_o natural_a arcanaes_n be_v as_o to_o what_o appertain_v to_o medicine_n to_o be_v so_o compare_v to_o our_o body_n as_o the_o arcanaes_n of_o god_n be_v to_o they_o neither_o will_v we_o be_v afraid_a to_o write_v that_o these_o arcanaes_n be_v high_o and_o great_a than_o we_o ourselves_o and_o have_v a_o most_o great_a power_n of_o furnish_v we_o with_o life_n as_o shall_v be_v witness_v by_o those_o four_o which_o we_o shall_v set_v down_o nor_o will_v we_o in_o the_o least_o care_n for_o those_o vain_a empty_a tale_n of_o those_o unprofitable_a slavish_a deünculi_n or_o dwarf-like_a divine_n will_v give_v unto_o we_o to_o enjoy_v it_o that_o so_o we_o may_v not_o be_v at_o all_o frustrate_v in_o our_o hope_n thâ—_n which_o grant_v we_o firm_o expect_v be_v therefore_o the_o fraught_n with_o hope_n we_o will_v in_o the_o first_o place_n declare_v what_o the_o difference_n between_o those_o four_o arcanaes_n be_v both_o as_o to_o the_o labour_n the_o art_n and_o final_o their_o vrtue_n beside_o the_o final_a and_o conclusive_a knowledge_n oâ—_n the_o virtue_n of_o every_o one_o of_o these_o be_v requisite_a on_o thâ—_n wise_a in_o general_n they_o do_v chief_o conserve_v the_o body_n in_o health_n and_o drive_v away_o the_o disease_n therefrom_o the_o exhilarate_v a_o sad_a mind_n and_o free_v it_o of_o all_o pensiveness_n they_o preserve_v from_o all_o sickness_n and_o do_v happy_o conduct_v and_o guide_v the_o body_n on_o even_o unto_o its_o predestinate_v death_n the_o which_o have_v no_o limit_n except_o by_o a_o diminish_n consumption_n as_o we_o declare_v a_o new_a youthfulness_n into_o a_o man_n and_o absume_v the_o old_a no_o otherwise_o then_o as_o a_o new_a herb_n arise_v from_o a_o new_a seed_n in_o a_o new_a summer_n and_o year_n the_o stone_n of_o the_o philosopher_n which_o be_v the_o second_o arcanum_n perfect_v its_o operation_n in_o another_o form_n viz._n after_o this_o manner_n even_o as_o the_o extrinsical_a fire_n do_v by_o burn_v of_o the_o spot_a and_o defile_v skin_n of_o the_o salamander_n make_v it_o so_o clean_a as_o if_o it_o be_v new_o bear_v so_o likewise_o this_o stone_n of_o the_o philosopher_n do_v purge_v the_o whole_a humane_a body_n and_o cleanse_v it_o from_o all_o its_o defilement_n by_o the_o introduce_v of_o new_a and_o young_a youth-like_a virtue_n the_o which_o it_o adjoin_v to_o the_o nature_n of_o a_o man._n mercurius_n aquavitae_fw-la which_o be_v the_o three_o arcanum_n do_v exhibit_v and_o show_v its_o oparation_n to_o be_v such_o like_a as_o the_o haltion_n or_o king-fisher_n do_v to_o depart_v from_o the_o noble_a medicinal_a art_n or_o from_o philosophy_n itself_o when_o as_o we_o may_v evident_o see_v their_o powerful_a virtue_n the_o which_o alone_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o so_o confirm_v we_o as_o to_o give_v unto_o they_o the_o great_a belief_n and_o that_o deserve_o for_o we_o never_o incline_v our_o miude_n to_o believe_v learn_v and_o imitate_v such_o thing_n as_o can_v be_v prove_v and_o confirm_v by_o most_o true_a and_o most_o certain_a reason_n conjoin_v with_o both_o experience_n and_o practise_v if_o at_o that_o time_n wherein_o christ_n do_v hang_v upon_o the_o cross_n the_o sun_n and_o moon_n have_v not_o be_v affect_v with_o a_o kind_n of_o compassion_n in_o so_o much_o thà t_o they_o be_v deprive_v of_o their_o light_n and_o obscure_v and_o have_v not_o the_o earth_n itself_o be_v also_o shake_v with_o a_o terrible_a tremble_n and_o have_v not_o those_o other_o sign_n be_v manifest_v as_o to_o his_o birth_n very_o no_o body_n will_v now_o have_v believe_v in_o he_o they_o now_o natural_o teach_v we_o to_o see_v and_o know_v he_o that_o jesus_n christ_n be_v god_n and_o that_o he_o assume_v the_o humanity_n the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o these_o arcanaes_n that_o they_o make_v and_o even_o compel_v we_o to_o believe_v they_o so_o as_o not_o to_o recede_v from_o they_o even_o till_o death_n but_o rather_o strict_o and_o daily_o to_o give_v thanks_o unto_o god_n with_o many_o lifting_n up_o of_o our_o heart_n so_o neither_o the_o eclipse_n nor_o the_o â_o will_n withdraw_v aught_o from_o we_o now_o therefore_o le_fw-fr we_o come_v to_o the_o practice_n and_o work_n of_o those_o four_o arcanaes_n by_o which_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o drive_v away_o the_o accident_n and_o corruption_n of_o our_o youth_n and_o rejoice_v in_o they_o even_o as_o our_o eternal_a arcanum_n rejoice_v in_o the_o life_n eternal_a etc._n etc._n of_o the_o arcanum_n of_o the_o prima_fw-la materia_fw-la or_o first_o matter_n have_v sufficient_o speak_v of_o the_o first_o matter_n whence_o in_o come_v and_o what_o it_o be_v you_o be_v to_o understand_v that_o it_o be_v found_v not_o only_o upon_o man_n but_o also_o all_o to_o be_v here_o in_o this_o place_n understand_v of_o man_n and_o beast_n after_o the_o same_o manner_n therefore_o a_o tree_n be_v now_o almost_o consume_v by_o age_n and_o daily_o tend_v more_o and_o more_o to_o its_o corruption_n not_o by_o the_o root_n defect_n nor_o by_o defect_n of_o nourishment_n but_o by_o the_o lack_n of_o its_o proper_a virtue_n may_v be_v renew_v by_o its_o own_o prima_fw-la materia_fw-la even_o as_o we_o have_v speak_v of_o the_o skin_n of_o the_o salamander_n and_o may_v o_o attain_v even_o to_o another_o age_n according_a to_o its_o predestisnation_n yea_o even_o to_o a_o three_o to_o a_o four_o and_o more_o for_o this_o reason_n be_v the_o virtue_n to_o be_v bestow_v thereon_o viz._n that_o the_o corruption_n and_o destruction_n thereof_o happen_v in_o long_a success_n of_o time_n may_v be_v now_o and_o then_o renew_v the_o same_o be_v to_o be_v understand_v of_o herb_n which_o endure_v and_o last_v but_o one_o year_n only_o because_o their_o predestination_n be_v no_o long_o for_o even_o they_o yea_o when_o they_o begin_v to_o be_v dry_v up_o be_v renew_v by_o their_o prima_fw-la materia_fw-la so_o as_o to_o remain_v green_a and_o fresh_a for_o another_o annual_a age_n and_o a_o three_o and_o a_o four_o and_o further_o the_o like_a do_v i_o also_o mean_v concern_v bruit_n animal_n as_o old_a sheep_n etc._n etc._n the_o which_o may_v be_v renovate_v even_o to_o a_o second_o age_n and_o so_o receive_v strength_n milk_n and_o wool_n like_o young_a sheep_n in_o like_a manner_n may_v a_o man_n be_v bring_v out_o of_o one_o age_n into_o another_o as_o we_o say_v afore_o now_o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v from_o these_o thing_n what_o the_o first_o matter_n be_v as_o concern_v its_o first_o essence_n in_o create_v insensible_a body_n it_o be_v the_o seed_n of_o every_o thing_n in_o create_v sensible_a body_n it_o be_v their_o sperm_n you_o must_v also_o know_v that_o the_o first_o matter_n be_v not_o to_o be_v take_v from_o that_o thing_n which_o this_o create_a body_n be_v produce_v out_o of_o but_o from_o the_o producted_v and_o generate_v matter_n for_o the_o first_o matter_n have_v such_o virtue_n as_o not-to-permit_a the_o body_n that_o be_v bear_v of_o it_o to_o go_v into_o a_o consumption_n but_o do_v abundant_o administer_v what_o be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o supply_n of_o every_o necessity_n
