be_v scrupulous_a but_o rather_o suspect_v yourselves_o not_o to_o be_v so_o because_o you_o neglect_v the_o great_a duty_n of_o religion_n and_o of_o this_o be_v scrupulous_a above_o all_o other_o thing_n lest_o you_o offend_v god_n by_o not_o come_v to_o the_o communion_n or_o rather_o do_v not_o dare_v to_o be_v so_o bold_a and_o fearless_a in_o a_o matter_n of_o such_o great_a danger_n let_v not_o the_o fault_n of_o other_o who_o communicate_v be_v a_o stop_n to_o your_o performance_n of_o that_o duty_n that_o be_v if_o they_o sin_v one_o way_n let_v not_o that_o tempt_v you_o to_o a_o sin_n of_o another_o kind_n if_o they_o go_v wrong_v on_o the_o right_a hand_n be_v not_o you_o move_v thereby_o to_o turn_v too_o much_o to_o the_o left_a let_v not_o the_o danger_n of_o unworthy_a receive_n deter_v you_o from_o receive_v but_o only_o from_o receive_v unworthy_o of_o which_o there_o be_v the_o less_o danger_n if_o you_o be_v real_o afraid_a of_o it_o for_o that_o will_v move_v you_o to_o be_v careful_a to_o prevent_v it_o and_o remember_v that_o nothing_o will_v make_v you_o more_o unworthy_a than_o neglect_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o let_v not_o the_o thought_n of_o your_o imperfection_n hinder_v you_o for_o they_o will_v always_o hinder_v and_o stay_v from_o the_o holy_a communion_n be_v not_o the_o way_n to_o be_v more_o perfect_a but_o come_v to_o it_o nay_o let_v not_o the_o breach_n of_o your_o resolution_n by_o relapse_v into_o sin_n after_o you_o have_v communicate_v keep_v you_o from_o communicate_v again_o but_o rather_o come_v the_o soon_o and_o take_v the_o first_o opportunity_n that_o be_v present_v you_o to_o renew_v your_o covenant_n with_o god_n to_o strengthen_v your_o christian_a resolution_n to_o fortify_v yourselves_o against_o after_o we_o be_v fall_v much_o less_o let_v business_n hinder_v for_o if_o you_o be_v honest_o employ_v in_o honest_a business_n it_o be_v part_n of_o your_o preparation_n for_o the_o holy_a communion_n and_o let_v no_o man_n say_v he_o want_v time_n to_o fit_v himself_o to_o receive_v it_o for_o this_o be_v in_o effect_n to_o say_v he_o want_v time_n to_o live_v well_o of_o which_o if_o you_o take_v a_o constant_a care_n that_o be_v the_o main_a preparation_n and_o for_o the_o compose_v your_o mind_n and_o consider_v the_o end_n for_o which_o you_o go_v to_o the_o lord_n table_n take_v as_o much_o time_n as_o your_o condition_n of_o life_n and_o the_o circumstance_n of_o your_o condition_n will_v allow_v and_o that_o be_v sufficient_a be_v not_o hinder_v from_o the_o heavenly_a comfort_n of_o which_o you_o may_v there_o partake_v by_o a_o opinion_n of_o the_o necessity_n of_o a_o long_a examination_n of_o yourselves_o beforehand_o for_o that_o necessity_n arise_v only_o from_o long_a neglect_n of_o the_o communion_n receive_v frequent_o as_o the_o first_o christian_n do_v and_o than_o you_o will_v be_v as_o ready_a for_o this_o on_o all_o occasion_n as_o you_o be_v for_o other_o duty_n of_o holy_a worship_n for_o you_o will_v be_v well_o acquaint_v with_o the_o state_n of_o your_o own_o soul_n and_o with_o the_o nature_n and_o end_n of_o this_o part_n of_o do_v your_o duty_n as_o well_o as_o you_o be_v able_a some_o for_o instance_n complain_v of_o hardness_n of_o heart_n and_o therefore_o dare_v not_o come_v but_o let_v such_o understand_v that_o it_o be_v yield_v and_o compliance_n to_o do_v what_o christ_n have_v command_v and_o not_o to_o do_v it_o be_v that_o very_a hardness_n which_o they_o bemoan_v and_o if_o any_o quarrel_n or_o contention_n happen_v among_o neighbour_n let_v not_o that_o hinder_a neither_o but_o rather_o let_v they_o come_v to_o the_o communion_n and_o there_o be_v reconcile_v it_o be_v too_o much_o that_o wâ—_n have_v fall_v out_o one_o with_o another_o let_v we_o not_o fall_v out_o with_o our_o god_n too_o if_o these_o contention_n have_v rise_v up_o to_o heat_n and_o anger_n nay_o wrath_n and_o evil_a speak_n do_v not_o continue_v they_o by_o refrain_v holy_a communion_n but_o repent_v of_o the_o evil_a extinguish_v all_o by_o renew_v your_o fellowship_n with_o god_n and_o one_o with_o another_o it_o love_n to_o god_n our_o saviour_n and_o if_o you_o be_v at_o any_o time_n engage_v in_o a_o suit_n of_o law_n let_v not_o that_o hinder_v your_o performance_n of_o this_o duty_n for_o suit_n at_o law_n to_o recover_v or_o defend_v that_o which_o you_o judge_v your_o right_n be_v not_o sinful_a nor_o be_v it_o difficult_a to_o manage_v they_o without_o sin_n with_o a_o friendly_a and_o christian_a mind_n both_o party_n refer_v themselves_o to_o a_o indifferent_a judge_n and_o resolve_v to_o acquiesce_v as_o common_a reason_n direct_v in_o his_o sentence_n for_o there_o will_v be_v relation_n or_o friend_n that_o be_v sick_a or_o we_o ourselves_o be_v something_o out_o of_o order_n or_o we_o have_v be_v in_o a_o journey_n or_o have_v a_o visit_n to_o make_v which_o can_v not_o well_o be_v avoid_v or_o have_v a_o friend_n come_v to_o see_v we_o the_o day_n before_o the_o communion_n with_o who_o we_o can_v not_o but_o in_o civility_n spend_v a_o good_a deal_n of_o time_n these_o and_o such_o like_a i_o be_o ashamed_a to_o do_v more_o than_o mention_n they_o be_v so_o trivial_a and_o by_o no_o understanding_n christian_n can_v be_v think_v a_o reasonable_a cause_n for_o put_v by_o the_o intention_n we_o have_v at_o any_o time_n of_o receive_v this_o holy_a sacrament_n i_o shall_v only_o add_v therefore_o that_o the_o want_n of_o something_o to_o offer_v at_o themselves_o or_o if_o out_o of_o the_o abundance_n of_o their_o love_n and_o devotion_n they_o do_v as_o the_o poor_a widow_n do_v offer_v all_o they_o have_v they_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o receive_v back_o again_o out_o of_o the_o offering_n much_o more_o than_o they_o give_v let_v not_o these_o therefore_o nor_o any_o other_o exception_n keep_v we_o any_o long_a from_o this_o holy_a duty_n the_o end_n of_o which_o if_o we_o often_o call_v to_o mind_n or_o rather_o constant_o keep_v in_o mind_n with_o a_o resolution_n frequent_o to_o come_v to_o the_o table_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o there_o to_o snow_v the_o affection_n we_o have_v to_o he_o and_o the_o earnest_a desire_n of_o our_o soul_n to_o partake_v more_o and_o more_o of_o his_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v be_v enable_v to_o live_v better_a and_o better_o and_o get_v a_o more_o absolute_a conquest_n over_o all_o those_o evil_a lust_n and_o affection_n which_o struggle_n for_o the_o mastery_n in_o we_o and_o by_o persuade_v we_o to_o neglect_v the_o holy_a communion_n get_v a_o great_a advantage_n of_o we_o we_o shall_v be_v well_o enough_o dispose_v to_o partake_v of_o it_o with_o great_a fruit_n and_o profit_n and_o no_o less_o comfort_n and_o joy_n in_o god_n and_o that_o at_o any_o time_n when_o a_o opportunity_n present_v itself_o though_o we_o have_v no_o notice_n till_o it_o come_v of_o the_o opportunity_n suppose_v it_o be_v when_o we_o go_v to_o see_v a_o sick_a friend_n or_o neighbour_n who_o be_v desirous_a to_o receive_v the_o communion_n or_o when_o we_o come_v upon_o occasion_n into_o a_o church_n where_o we_o be_v stranger_n and_o do_v not_o know_v it_o will_v be_v there_o at_o that_o time_n administer_v i_o make_v no_o question_n it_o will_v be_v far_o more_o acceptable_a to_o our_o lord_n christ_n if_o with_o no_o other_o preparation_n than_o i_o have_v now_o mention_v we_o take_v the_o boldness_n to_o approach_v to_o his_o table_n than_o if_o out_o of_o a_o mistake_a humility_n and_o caution_n we_o turn_v our_o back_n of_o it_o and_o go_v away_o because_o we_o have_v not_o so_o much_o time_n as_o we_o desire_v to_o dispose_v ourselves_o for_o it_o for_o the_o lord_n sake_n let_v we_o root_v out_o those_o false_a notion_n whereby_o we_o be_v prejudice_v against_o our_o certain_a duty_n and_o be_v at_o the_o pain_n to_o settle_v true_a christian_a it_o burn_v in_o our_o heart_n the_o few_o scruple_n we_o shall_v have_v in_o our_o mind_n and_o those_o few_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o remain_v will_v soon_o be_v overcome_v when_o we_o feel_v what_o mischief_n they_o do_v we_o by_o keep_v we_o from_o the_o most_o advantageous_a mean_n of_o be_v eternal_o happy_a nay_o from_o that_o present_a happiness_n which_o the_o sweet_a taste_n of_o his_o love_n and_o of_o the_o benefit_n he_o have_v purchase_v by_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n impart_v unto_o those_o soul_n which_o devout_o partake_v of_o the_o holy_a mystery_n of_o salvation_n which_o be_v ordain_v by_o our_o lord_n say_v theodoret_n upon_o hebr._n viij_o 4._o for_o this_o very_a end_n that_o behold_v the_o type_n of_o they_o we_o may_v call_v to_o mind_v the_o suffering_n themselves_o he_o endure_v for_o we_o and_o may_v thereby_o have_v our_o love_n inflame_v towards_o our_o benefactor_n and_o expect_v the_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o good_a thing_n which_o be_v to_o very_o and_o indeed_o take_v and_o receive_v by_o the_o faithful_a in_o the_o lord_n supper_n 5._o of_o this_o therefore_o you_o can_v be_v ignorant_a and_o if_o you_o believe_v it_o and_o expect_v it_o understand_v also_o what_o your_o eat_n and_o drink_v of_o that_o bread_n and_o wine_n mean_v and_o for_o what_o end_v you_o come_v to_o the_o holy_a table_n what_o can_v there_o remain_v to_o be_v do_v to_o make_v you_o know_v certain_o whether_o you_o may_v partake_v thereof_o safe_o nay_o profitable_o or_o no_o but_o only_o the_o last_o thing_n i_o mention_v 6._o whether_o you_o intend_v to_o do_v there_o what_o the_o lord_n command_v and_o to_o receive_v those_o benefit_n which_o he_o there_o impart_v not_o eat_v and_o drink_v that_o be_v as_o at_o a_o common_a table_n to_o satisfy_v your_o hunger_n and_o quench_v your_o thirst_n not_o receive_v with_o the_o same_o common_a spirit_n and_o the_o same_o unattentiveness_n wherewith_o you_o receive_v other_o food_n but_o compose_v yourself_o serious_o as_o at_o the_o lord_n table_n in_o a_o holy_a place_n where_o he_o be_v present_a thankful_o to_o commemorate_v his_o death_n to_o partake_v of_o that_o sacrifice_n which_o he_o offer_v for_o we_o on_o the_o cross_n to_o give_v up_o yourselves_o soul_n and_o body_n unto_o he_o and_o to_o thank_v he_o that_o you_o have_v the_o honour_n to_o be_v his_o servant_n and_o that_o he_o have_v purchase_v you_o at_o so_o dear_a a_o rate_n as_o with_o the_o price_n of_o his_o own_o most_o precious_a blood_n to_o implore_v the_o continuance_n of_o his_o gracious_a and_o ready_a help_n upon_o all_o occasion_n etc._n etc._n if_o i_o say_v with_o this_o spirit_n and_o for_o these_o and_o such_o like_a end_n you_o approach_v to_o this_o holy_a communion_n you_o need_v not_o have_v the_o least_o fear_n of_o be_v reject_v as_o unworthy_a guest_n but_o aught_o to_o be_v confident_a that_o you_o shall_v be_v welcome_a to_o that_o holy_a feast_n as_o those_o that_o be_v faithful_a unto_o christ_n for_o want_v none_o of_o these_o condition_n which_o be_v all_o that_o can_v be_v think_v requisite_a you_o want_v nothing_o to_o make_v you_o fit_a and_o prepare_v to_o have_v communion_n with_o christ_n in_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n which_o be_v there_o commemorate_a yes_o will_v some_o perhaps_o further_a object_n there_o may_v be_v something_o still_o want_v for_o how_o come_v the_o corinthian_n to_o be_v so_o severe_o punish_v as_o we_o read_v they_o be_v for_o their_o unworthy_a receive_v the_o communion_n if_o these_o thing_n be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v man_n meet_v partaker_n of_o it_o do_v you_o not_o think_v that_o they_o have_v all_o the_o forementioned_a qualification_n and_o yet_o they_o do_v eat_v and_o drink_v their_o own_o damnation_n i_o answer_v no_o it_o be_v most_o manifest_a from_o the_o very_a word_n which_o mention_v their_o damnation_n that_o they_o be_v not_o thus_o prepare_v 1._o for_o first_o they_o proceed_v to_o partake_v of_o these_o holy_a mystery_n at_o the_o end_n of_o their_o feast_n of_o charity_n which_o be_v a_o common_a meal_n where_o they_o eat_v and_o drink_v all_o together_o for_o the_o maintain_v brotherly_a kindness_n among_o they_o they_o so_o perfect_o confound_v and_o blend_v these_o two_o the_o holy_a feast_n on_o christ_n sacrifice_n and_o the_o common_a feast_n on_o ordinary_a food_n one_o with_o the_o other_o that_o they_o make_v not_o the_o least_o distinction_n but_o do_v eat_v this_o holy_a bread_n and_o drink_v this_o holy_a wine_n as_o they_o do_v common_a meat_n and_o liquor_n not_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n as_o you_o read_v v._o 29._o of_o this_o chapter_n this_o be_v one_o horrid_a sin_n which_o they_o commit_v not_o to_o consider_v what_o they_o be_v do_v for_o they_o go_v to_o the_o lord_n table_n as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v still_o their_o own_o table_n and_o do_v not_o distinguish_v between_o this_o sacred_a and_o their_o ordinary_a food_n 2._o one_o cause_n of_o which_o undiscerning_a spirit_n which_o will_v not_o let_v they_o see_v the_o difference_n be_v their_o riot_n and_o drunkenness_n at_o that_o feast_n of_o charity_n which_o ought_v to_o have_v be_v only_o a_o sober_a refreshment_n they_o revel_v upon_o that_o good_a cheer_n which_o shall_v only_o have_v fill_v their_o heart_n with_o love_n to_o god_n the_o giver_n of_o all_o good_a thing_n and_o to_o their_o christian_a brethren_n and_o thereby_o have_v prepare_v they_o to_o be_v partaker_n of_o a_o divine_a food_n which_o follow_v the_o other_o this_o be_v another_o fearful_a sin_n of_o which_o you_o read_v v._o 21._o where_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o as_o some_o be_v hungry_a at_o that_o feast_n of_o love_n and_o friendship_n so_o other_o be_v drunken_a 3._o which_o lead_v i_o to_o take_v notice_n of_o a_o three_o crime_n that_o the_o rich_a despise_v the_o poor_a and_o that_o in_o so_o vile_a a_o manner_n as_o not_o to_o suffer_v they_o to_o feast_v with_o they_o but_o to_o separate_v from_o they_o and_o to_o eat_v and_o drink_v by_o themselves_o and_o also_o to_o eat_v and_o drink_v up_o all_o the_o provision_n leave_v the_o poor_a little_a or_o nothing_o for_o in_o eat_v viz._n at_o the_o feast_n of_o charity_n every_o one_o take_v before_o his_o own_o supper_n and_o so_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o one_o be_v hungry_a and_o another_o drunken_a 4._o which_o suggest_v this_o further_a crime_n consequent_a upon_o the_o former_a that_o they_o turn_v a_o common_a feast_n into_o a_o private_a the_o rich_a look_v upon_o what_o they_o have_v bring_v to_o it_o as_o their_o own_o whereas_o in_o truth_n they_o have_v no_o long_o any_o propriety_n therein_o now_o that_o they_o be_v come_v together_o into_o one_o and_o the_o same_o place_n ver_fw-la 20._o where_o there_o ought_v to_o have_v be_v no_o difference_n make_v between_o one_o man_n and_o another_o nor_o any_o part_n of_o the_o provision_n look_v upon_o as_o ver_fw-la 22._o what_o have_v you_o not_o house_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v in_o or_o despise_v you_o the_o church_n of_o god_n etc._n etc._n which_o question_n suppose_v that_o they_o may_v in_o their_o own_o private_a house_n have_v eat_v their_o own_o supper_n alone_o by_o themselves_o or_o with_o who_o it_o please_v they_o to_o invite_v but_o in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n and_o in_o his_o divine_a presence_n it_o be_v intolerable_a because_o there_o they_o meet_v upon_o no_o private_a but_o a_o public_a account_n to_o thank_v god_n for_o his_o love_n in_o christ_n and_o to_o testify_v their_o mutual_a love_n to_o each_o other_o 6._o which_o they_o be_v so_o far_o from_o do_v that_o they_o do_v the_o quite_o contrary_a for_o true_a love_n delight_v to_o keep_v other_o in_o countenance_n but_o they_o put_v such_o to_o the_o blush_n as_o be_v in_o a_o poor_a and_o mean_a condition_n and_o can_v bring_v nothing_o to_o the_o common_a table_n but_o themselves_o who_o be_v by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o feast_n and_o by_o the_o rule_n of_o charity_n to_o have_v feast_v at_o the_o charge_n of_o the_o rich_a and_o with_o as_o much_o freedom_n and_o confidence_n as_o if_o they_o have_v bring_v the_o provision_n themselves_o but_o be_v look_v upon_o with_o such_o scorn_n that_o it_o make_v they_o sneak_v like_o wretched_a beggar_n that_o be_v to_o be_v content_a with_o the_o scrap_n which_o the_o rich_a will_v leave_v they_o that_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o last_o word_n of_o that_o exprobration_n ver_fw-la 22._o and_o shame_v they_o that_o have_v not_o that_o be_v be_v not_o able_a to_o bring_v any_o thing_n to_o eat_v and_o drink_v at_o the_o feast_n of_o charity_n these_o be_v the_o grievous_a scandal_n commit_v in_o that_o church_n some_o of_o they_o in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o holy_a communion_n and_o all_o of_o they_o in_o their_o preparation_n to_o it_o and_o in_o the_o holy_a place_n where_o they_o be_v assemble_v to_o worship_n christ_n with_o mutual_a affection_n one_o to_o another_o which_o therefore_o bring_v down_o heavy_a judgement_n upon_o they_o as_o you_o read_v ver_fw-la 29._o he_o that_o eat_v and_o drink_v unworthy_o eat_v and_o drink_v damnation_n or_o judgement_n as_o the_o margin_n of_o the_o bible_n have_v it_o to_o himself_o not_o discern_v the_o lord_n body_n which_o that_o it_o be_v speak_v of_o the_o church_n of_o corinth_n the_o next_o word_n show_v which_o inform_v we_o also_o what_o this_o judgement_n
