examine_v certain_a general_n that_o be_v conducible_a to_o this_o point_n viz._n 1._o that_o god_n do_v appoint_v man_n to_o some_o end_n or_o good_a answerable_a to_o the_o constitution_n and_o value_n of_o his_o nature_n and_o this_o be_v his_o happiness_n 2._o that_o this_o good_a must_v therefore_o be_v a_o infinite_a immortal_a intelligible_a good_a otherwise_o it_o can_v not_o be_v answerable_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o man._n 3._o that_o there_o be_v not_o nor_o can_v be_v any_o such_o good_a but_o only_o god._n 4._o that_o the_o actual_a enjoyment_n of_o this_o good_a be_v by_o the_o union_n of_o the_o soul_n to_o god_n and_o the_o communion_n of_o god_n to_o the_o soul._n 5._o that_o the_o only_a mean_n of_o attain_v this_o union_n and_o communion_n must_v needs_o be_v happiness_n which_o man_n do_v or_o may_v enjoy_v in_o his_o create_a condition_n 2._o what_o be_v the_o mean_n whereby_o to_o attain_v and_o keep_v that_o happiness_n 1._o concern_v the_o former_a viz._n what_o be_v man_n happiness_n in_o his_o creation_n we_o shall_v consider_v he_o in_o those_o three_o degree_n of_o live_v which_o he_o have_v 1._o as_o a_o vegetable_a creature_n a_o exact_a constitution_n and_o temper_n of_o body_n which_o though_o natural_o corruptible_a yet_o by_o the_o interposition_n of_o the_o divine_a power_n not_o subject_a to_o corruption_n those_o thing_n that_o be_v for_o his_o use_n and_o sustentation_n the_o air_n the_o water_n the_o fruit_n of_o the_o earth_n most_o exact_o conducible_a to_o the_o perpetuate_n of_o his_o life_n without_o pain_n or_o sickness_n 2._o as_o a_o sensible_a creature_n exquisiteness_n of_o sense_n and_o receptive_a of_o whatsoever_o the_o creature_n can_v afford_v conduce_v to_o his_o use_n or_o delight_n and_o the_o creature_n likewise_o fit_v for_o the_o supply_n of_o those_o sense_n every_o herb_n give_v he_o for_o food_n all_o the_o creature_n come_v to_o he_o to_o receive_v their_o name_n he_o have_v dominion_n over_o they_o a_o most_o pleasant_a garden_n plant_v by_o god_n himself_o for_o his_o habitation_n with_o a_o tree_n of_o immortality_n in_o it_o 3._o as_o a_o rational_a creature_n 1._o a_o most_o just_a and_o sweet_a subordination_n of_o the_o inferior_a faculty_n to_o the_o superior_a the_o sensitive_a appetite_n the_o passion_n and_o motion_n of_o the_o spirit_n 2._o a_o most_o exact_a fitness_n and_o perfection_n of_o those_o organ_n of_o the_o body_n which_o be_v necessary_a for_o the_o operation_n of_o the_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o a_o perfect_a and_o just_a union_n of_o the_o body_n and_o soul_n whereby_o the_o soul_n may_v clear_o and_o perfect_o exercise_v all_o her_o faculty_n 3._o which_o be_v the_o height_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n fit_v of_o those_o faculty_n with_o the_o most_o perfect_a and_o suitable_a object_n even_o god_n himself_o for_o all_o faculty_n or_o power_n receive_v their_o perfection_n by_o their_o object_n to_o have_v a_o understanding_n as_o comprehensive_a as_o heaven_n to_o have_v a_o will_n of_o as_o vast_a desire_n as_o infinitude_n itself_o and_o not_o to_o have_v a_o object_n suitable_a to_o either_o be_v a_o great_a unhappiness_n than_o to_o want_v the_o faculty_n in_o the_o creation_n therefore_o god_n fill_v the_o understanding_n with_o the_o sight_n and_o knowledge_n of_o himself_o of_o his_o majesty_n glory_n bounty_n goodness_n with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o will_n and_o mind_n concern_v man_n with_o the_o knowledge_n of_o his_o work_n and_o of_o his_o work_n this_o can_v not_o choose_v but_o work_n in_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n answerable_a return_n to_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o object_n he_o be_v full_o conceive_v to_o be_v the_o high_a and_o most_o supreme_a good_a and_o
a_o actual_a exercise_n of_o right_a reason_n they_o have_v in_o all_o succession_n of_o time_n and_o place_n take_v up_o those_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o we_o call_v the_o moral_a law_n or_o the_o most_o part_n of_o they_o 2._o touch_v the-obligation_n of_o these_o law_n it_o be_v twofold_a 1._o from_o the_o injunction_n and_o command_n of_o god_n who_o have_v a_o universal_a infinite_a and_o unlimited_a power_n over_o his_o creature_n and_o may_v most_o just_o require_v his_o obedience_n and_o into_o this_o power_n of_o god_n together_o with_o his_o actual_a command_n or_o prohibition_n love_n that_o pass_v between_o god_n and_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n which_o fill_v his_o reasonable_a faculty_n brimful_a of_o happiness_n and_o contentment_n and_o instead_o thereof_o in_o the_o understanding_n darkness_n distractedness_n a_o continue_a motion_n to_o know_v and_o yet_o for_o want_v of_o light_n not_o know_v what_o to_o pursue_v and_o therefore_o pursue_v trifle_n and_o folly_n in_o the_o will_n loss_n of_o the_o good_a that_o it_o before_o enjoy_v yet_o a_o crave_v appetite_n after_o somewhat_o but_o it_o know_v not_o what_o and_o to_o satisfy_v this_o unsatiable_a that_o such_o desire_n of_o the_o mind_n as_o these_o be_v even_o condemn_v of_o reason_n itself_o as_o irregular_a and_o useless_a it_o be_v true_a that_o whatsoever_o be_v a_o object_n of_o our_o for_o thy_o soul_n body_n or_o relation_n have_v thou_o endeavour_v by_o a_o serious_a meditation_n to_o consider_v of_o divine_a truth_n have_v thou_o examine_v the_o state_n of_o thy_o soul_n and_o of_o thy_o life_n and_o upon_o the_o view_n thereof_o take_v up_o resolution_n of_o amendment_n of_o what_o be_v amiss_o and_o persevere_v and_o increase_v in_o what_o be_v agreeable_a to_o his_o
