utter_o overwhelm_v fear_n three_o effect_n of_o the_o true_a fear_n for_o ever_o and_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o more_o certain_a knowledge_n of_o the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n consist_v in_o these_o three_o effect_n first_o that_o 1._o 1._o whereas_o corruption_n and_o naughtiness_n lurk_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o will_v fain_o have_v a_o vent_n and_o issue_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n do_v keep_v that_o evil_a back_n and_o do_v so_o restrain_v bridle_n and_o keep_v in_o our_o corrupt_a and_o evil_a inclination_n that_o they_o shall_v not_o in_o any_o case_n break_v forth_o to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o god_n 2_o 2_o and_o our_o own_o shame_n and_o confusion_n the_o second_o effect_n note_n or_o mark_v of_o the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n be_v by_o depart_v from_o evil_n for_o he_o that_o fear_v god_n true_o depart_v from_o evil_a and_o sin_n unfeigned_o deâ—esting_v and_o abhor_v the_o same_o both_o in_o himself_o and_o other_o the_o three_o effect_n 3_o 3_o and_o note_n whereby_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n be_v know_v to_o be_v in_o we_o be_v when_o we_o be_v purposely_o set_v to_o amend_v our_o former_a evil_a life_n and_o stedsast_o determine_v with_o the_o prophet_n david_n to_o keep_v the_o commandment_n of_o our_o love_a and_o gracious_a god_n which_o matter_n will_v desire_v a_o long_a discourse_n and_o hereafter_o god_n willing_a somewhat_o may_v be_v speak_v but_o at_o this_o present_a they_o can_v be_v stand_v upon_o only_o that_o which_o i_o promise_v that_o lie_v upon_o i_o to_o perform_v namely_o to_o set_v forth_o the_o commodity_n and_o commendation_n of_o the_o true_a fear_n of_o god_n for_o nothing_o do_v more_o persuade_v man_n mind_n theâ—_n the_o consideration_n of_o the_o high_a and_o great_a commodity_n and_o advantage_n of_o that_o whereunto_o we_o will_v persuade_v they_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n be_v to_o keep_v ourselves_o not_o so_o much_o god_n the_o commodity_n of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n within_o the_o order_n of_o the_o
matter_n shall_v we_o be_v ever_o a_o whit_n the_o better_a in_o that_o we_o do_v not_o understand_v they_o suppose_v they_o come_v into_o our_o church_n and_o preach_v unto_o we_o god_n word_n to_o what_o end_n be_v all_o their_o speech_n among_o the_o plague_n and_o punishment_n that_o god_n threaten_v unto_o his_o people_n for_o their_o disobedience_n this_o be_v not_o the_o least_o that_o they_o shall_v go_v into_o captivity_n to_o such_o a_o nation_n who_o language_n they_o shall_v not_o understand_v in_o the_o law_n it_o be_v write_v by_o man_n of_o other_o tongue_n and_o by_o teach_v that_o the_o word_n of_o god_n ought_v not_o to_o be_v read_v in_o a_o know_a tongue_n unto_o the_o people_n which_o indeed_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o keep_v they_o in_o idolatry_n and_o superstition_n when_o they_o know_v not_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n word_n and_o pure_a religion_n and_o while_o they_o persuade_v the_o people_n that_o ignorance_n be_v the_o mother_n of_o devotion_n that_o the_o less_o they_o know_v the_o more_o devout_a they_o be_v this_o be_v rather_o a_o furtherance_n to_o their_o damnation_n because_o they_o know_v not_o god_n and_o the_o way_n to_o salvation_n for_o as_o the_o extreme_a want_n of_o bodily_a food_n procure_v death_n to_o the_o body_n so_o the_o extreme_a want_n of_o spiritual_a food_n that_o be_v of_o god_n word_n procure_v death_n to_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v meet_a say_v they_o that_o the_o scripture_n shall_v be_v set_v down_o in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n lest_o some_o in_o read_v pervert_v they_o unto_o their_o own_o damnation_n which_o be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a reason_n to_o deny_v other_o the_o read_n thereof_o as_o if_o we_o shall_v never_o use_v wine_n because_o some_o by_o abuse_v it_o have_v fall_v into_o drunkenness_n or_o never_o take_v a_o weapon_n in_o hand_n to_o defend_v ourselves_o because_o many_o have_v be_v kill_v thereby_o but_o this_o reason_n of_o they_o be_v but_o a_o device_n of_o man_n
