the_o law_n in_o the_o member_n and_o yet_o absolve_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o law_n in_o the_o mind_n it_o condemn_v the_o man_n as_o loathsome_a in_o himself_o and_o in_o his_o own_o duty_n and_o righteousness_n and_o yet_o absolve_v he_o as_o sound_v his_o peace_n on_o christ_n and_o sink_v and_o put_v to_o silence_v all_o challenge_n and_o accusation_n in_o that_o blood_n of_o sprinkle_v christ_n righteousness_n be_v perfect_a and_o god_n promise_v faithful_a and_o christ_n blood_n of_o force_n and_o efficacy_n to_o quiet_a and_o give_v the_o answer_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o vanity_n of_o many_o of_o you_o to_o boast_v of_o a_o good_a conscience_n and_o real_o it_o will_v make_v a_o tender_a conscience_n some_o way_n to_o loath_a to_o hear_v you_o speak_v so_o confident_o of_o it_o i_o shall_v therefore_o in_o the_o first_o place_n answer_n to_o the_o question_n how_o far_o the_o conscience_n of_o a_o natural_a man_n or_o a_o hypocriâ—e_n may_v be_v good_a and_o than_o show_v you_o how_o and_o wherein_o it_o be_v defective_a and_o what_o be_v the_o difference_n betwixt_o it_o and_o the_o believer_n good_a conscience_n for_o the_o first_o i_o will_v be_v free_a of_o a_o challenge_n on_o account_n of_o a_o wrong_a design_n of_o do_v such_o or_o such_o a_o thing_n or_o in_o respect_n of_o moral_a sincerity_n and_o ingenuity_n such_o as_o be_v in_o from_o some_o piece_n of_o sense_n or_o some_o opinion_n and_o fancy_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n that_o be_v in_o some_o sort_n deceive_v by_o they_o and_o deceive_v they_o now_o all_o these_o delusion_n may_v be_v in_o these_o three_o respect_n 1._o in_o respect_n of_o thing_n doctrinal_a a_o man_n may_v be_v persuade_v that_o truth_n be_v a_o error_n and_o a_o error_n be_v a_o truth_n 2._o in_o respect_n of_o matter_n of_o practice_n a_o man_n may_v take_v a_o evil_n turn_v or_o action_n for_o a_o good_a one_o and_o have_v a_o sort_n of_o persuasion_n that_o it_o be_v so_o as_o the_o jew_n have_v in_o kill_v the_o apostle_n who_o think_v they_o do_v god_n good_a service_n as_o the_o lord_n foretell_v john_n 16._o v_o 2._o and_o three_o in_o respect_n of_o a_o man_n estate_n who_o think_v he_o be_v in_o friendship_n with_o god_n when_o indeed_o he_o be_v not_o because_o he_o draw_v his_o conclusion_n from_o wrong_a premise_n either_o fail_v in_o the_o major_a somewhat_o more_o particular_a in_o the_o account_n he_o give_v it_o will_v very_o ready_o be_v to_o this_o or_o some_o such_o purpose_n god_n have_v be_v very_o good_a and_o kind_a to_o i_o in_o sincere_a aim_n and_o endeavour_v than_o what_o be_v actual_o attain_v 3ly_a in_o the_o doctrine_n we_o say_v a_o believer_n in_o a_o good_a frame_n will_v so_o aim_v to_o live_v as_o he_o may_v have_v a_o good_a conscience_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o the_o objection_n suppose_v only_o that_o when_o he_o be_v not_o in_o a_o good_a frame_n he_o can_v have_v a_o good_a conscience_n and_o that_o we_o grant_v for_o he_o may_v indeed_o by_o his_o carnal_a frame_n and_o walk_v spoil_n and_o rob_v himself_o of_o the_o comfortable_a application_n of_o this_o mark_n and_o so_o there_o be_v no_o inconsistencie_n here_o 4_o this_o stand_v firm_o as_o a_o truth_n that_o though_o a_o believer_n have_v many_o other_o mark_n yet_o they_o can_v bear_v he_o comfortable_o through_o if_o he_o want_v we_o know_v nothing_o by_o ourselves_o yet_o be_v we_o not_o thereby_o justify_v but_o be_v that_o judge_v we_o be_v the_o lord_n who_o be_v great_a than_o our_o conscience_n and_o see_v many_o he_o be_v deep_o exercise_v and_o sore_o combat_v with_o the_o remainder_n of_o a_o body_n of_o death_n within_o he_o as_o he_o give_v a_o lament_a account_n rom._n 7._o yet_o he_o be_v the_o man_n here_o who_o have_v this_o calmness_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n 2_o we_o premit_fw-la that_o this_o peace_n and_o calmness_n consist_v with_o challenge_n and_o repentance_n and_o with_o deep_a inward_a exercise_n may_v be_v first_o where_o there_o be_v no_o absolute_a perfection_n of_o holiness_n though_o i_o grant_v there_o must_v be_v no_o low_o nor_o less_o design_n than_o perfection_n because_o this_o peace_n and_o calmness_n in_o sojourn_v saint_n of_o who_o we_o mean_v all_o along_o be_v most_o found_v on_o sincere_a and_o serious_a endeavour_n to_o attain_v it_o as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v phil._n 3._o 12_o 13._o not_o as_o though_o i_o have_v already_o attain_v or_o be_v already_o perfect_a viz._n in_o holiness_n but_o i_o follow_v after_o etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o vers_fw-la 15._o he_o assert_v a_o perfection_n there_o be_v not_o a_o attain_n of_o perfection_n as_o to_o degree_n and_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o perfection_n in_o respect_n of_o part_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o sincere_a endeavour_n and_o press_v to_o be_v at_o perfection_n 2._o this_o peace_n and_o calmness_n that_o we_o speak_v of_o may_v consist_v with_o the_o indwel_n of_o corruption_n though_o not_o with_o the_o reign_n and_o dominion_n of_o it_o i_o say_v with_o the_o indwel_n of_o corruption_n where_o the_o stir_n and_o act_n of_o it_o be_v as_o it_o be_v protest_v against_o groan_v under_o and_o oppose_v as_o it_o be_v with_o this_o apostle_n rom._n 7._o who_o notwithstanding_o the_o law_n of_o his_o member_n rebel_a against_o the_o law_n of_o his_o mind_n yet_o maintain_v his_o peace_n because_o this_o peace_n be_v ground_v not_o so_o much_o on_o the_o entire_a and_o absolute_a victory_n over_o corruption_n as_o on_o a_o real_a hatred_n of_o a_o real_a enmity_n at_o and_o a_o real_a fight_v against_o it_o 3._o this_o peace_n and_o calmness_n may_v consist_v not_o only_o with_o corruption_n indwell_v but_o sometime_o with_o the_o prevail_a and_o captivate_a power_n of_o corruption_n which_o be_v also_o clear_a from_o rom._n 7_o where_o the_o law_n that_o be_v in_o the_o apostle_n member_n prevail_v so_o far_o against_o the_o law_n of_o his_o mind_n that_o it_o lead_v he_o captive_a to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n that_o be_v in_o his_o member_n and_o yet_o he_o have_v peace_n the_o reason_n be_v because_o this_o peace_n do_v not_o only_o flow_v from_o the_o event_n of_o the_o wrestle_n or_o fight_n but_o also_o from_o the_o christian_n not_o yield_v in_o the_o fight_n though_o he_o be_v captivat_fw-la and_o from_o his_o enter_v as_o it_o be_v a_o dissent_n from_o and_o protestation_n against_o the_o captivate_a power_n of_o corruption_n therefore_o say_v he_o the_o thing_n i_o do_v i_o allow_v not_o and_o it_o be_v no_o more_o i_o that_o do_v it_o but_o sin_n that_o dwell_v in_o i_o not_o but_o it_o be_v he_o that_o sin_v but_o he_o allow_v it_o not_o nay_o as_o i_o say_v he_o protest_v against_o the_o prevailling_a of_o
