satan_n deep_a malice_n unless_o god_n restrain_v his_o power_n which_o must_v teach_v we_o in_o the_o day_n of_o peace_n and_o strength_n to_o prepare_v against_o the_o day_n of_o weakness_n by_o any_o affliction_n or_o by_o death_n itself_o that_o so_o we_o may_v by_o god_n grace_n be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o the_o rage_n of_o satan_n for_o than_o he_o will_v be_v sure_o most_o eager_o to_o seek_v our_o ruin_n and_o unless_o we_o prepare_v before_o hand_n we_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o stand_v now_o our_o best_a preparation_n be_v to_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o christ_n and_o to_o do_v the_o same_o for_o then_o though_o the_o wind_n blow_v the_o rain_n fall_v the_o wave_n beat_v and_o satan_n do_v his_o worst_a yet_o be_v build_v upon_o the_o rock_n christ_n jesus_n we_o shall_v never_o fall_v matth._n 7._o 24._o 25._o the_o three_o thing_n in_o this_o preparation_n be_v the_o occasion_n of_o satan_n onset_n at_o this_o time_n namely_o christ_n bodily_a hunger_n as_o the_o knit_n of_o this_o verse_n to_o the_o former_a will_n plain_o show_v for_o christ_n be_v a_o hunger_a satan_n come_v unto_o he_o and_o tempt_v he_o he_o can_v not_o find_v in_o christ_n most_o holy_a manhood_n any_o blemish_n of_o sin_n or_o inclination_n thereto_o whereon_o to_o build_v his_o temptation_n yet_o such_o be_v his_o malice_n that_o rather_o than_o christ_n will_v go_v about_o it_o and_o espy_v where_o the_o wall_n be_v weak_a and_o most_o fit_a for_o his_o entrance_n and_o there_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o give_v his_o strong_a onset_n and_o as_o a_o man_n that_o will_v strike_v fire_n with_o a_o flint_n will_v turn_v it_o about_o in_o his_o hand_n to_o see_v what_o part_n be_v fit_a even_o so_o the_o devil_n he_o go_v about_o a_o man_n and_o as_o it_o be_v turn_v he_o to_o and_o fro_o to_o spy_v out_o his_o weakness_n and_o to_o what_o sin_n he_o be_v most_o incline_v and_o there_o he_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o try_v he_o often_o and_o to_o assault_v he_o with_o great_a violence_n example_n if_o a_o man_n be_v impatient_a of_o poverty_n he_o will_v seek_v to_o carry_v he_o to_o pick_v and_o steal_v if_o a_o man_n be_v prove_v to_o covetousness_n he_o will_v provoke_v he_o to_o fraud_n and_o oppression_n if_o he_o be_v incline_v to_o ambition_n satan_n will_v puff_n he_o up_o with_o pride_n and_o vainglory_n nay_o which_o be_v far_o more_o satan_n will_v take_v occasion_n from_o the_o very_a constitution_n of_o a_o man_n body_n to_o draw_v he_o unto_o sin_n if_o choler_n be_v predominant_a in_o he_o satan_n will_v labour_v to_o stir_v he_o up_o to_o wrath_n anger_n and_o fury_n and_o if_o he_o can_v to_o bloodshed_n and_o murder_n if_o a_o man_n be_v of_o a_o sanguine_a complexion_n satan_n will_v seek_v to_o carry_v he_o to_o immoderate_a mirth_n and_o to_o excess_n in_o pastime_n pleasure_n and_o delight_n that_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a he_o may_v drown_v he_o therein_o whether_o they_o be_v good_a or_o bad_a if_o a_o man_n be_v melancholic_a satan_n will_v sometime_o take_v occasion_n by_o that_o humour_n to_o strike_v he_o with_o exceed_a sadness_n with_o terror_n and_o fear_n and_o otherwhile_o to_o intoxicate_a his_o brain_n with_o strange_a fantasy_n and_o delusion_n cause_v a_o man_n to_o think_v himself_o to_o be_v elias_n john_n baptist_n christ_n etc._n etc._n so_o as_o it_o be_v true_a which_o a_o ancient_a divine_a say_v of_o this_o humour_n that_o it_o be_v the_o devil_n bait_n wherewith_o he_o sport_v himself_o see_v the_o experience_n hereof_o in_o the_o 15._o lunatic_a person_n
