religion_n the_o more_o diligent_a shall_v he_o be_v in_o furnish_v himself_o with_o virtue_n as_o he_o who_o ought_v to_o have_v both_o a_o great_a understanding_n and_o knowledge_n of_o his_o own_o obligation_n and_o have_v a_o long_a trial_n and_o experience_n of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o perfection_n he_o that_o be_v not_o hungry_a be_v soon_o fill_v and_o it_o be_v a_o ill_a sign_n in_o a_o religious_a man_n if_o he_o receive_v no_o pleasure_n in_o the_o study_n of_o virtue_n 8._o other_o contrariwise_o have_v a_o over_o hasty_a desire_n to_o get_v up_o to_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o perfection_n and_o if_o they_o happen_v peradventure_o to_o fall_v into_o some_o defect_n they_o be_v eftsoons_o discourage_v and_o loose_v their_o courage_n but_o this_o be_v not_o my_o will_n neither_o be_v it_o the_o way_n of_o labour_v to_o perfection_n for_o the_o great_a perfection_n be_v in_o the_o victory_n &_o overcome_v of_o all_o vice_n and_o in_o the_o purchase_n of_o all_o virtue_n &_o for_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o there_o must_v be_v some_o continuance_n of_o tyme._n wherefore_o to_o seek_v everyday_n more_o perfection_n than_o other_o which_o we_o speak_v of_o here_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o overcome_v the_o passion_n or_o to_o restrain_v the_o perturbation_n of_o the_o mind_n &_o the_o inordinate_a desire_n thereof_o and_o to_o be_v absolute_o perfect_a be_v nothing_o else_o then_o after_o the_o victory_n over_o ourselves_o to_o be_v dead_a to_o the_o world_n and_o to_o live_v to_o god_n alone_o 9_o he_o that_o have_v enemy_n and_o not_o set_v upon_o all_o at_o once_o but_o now_o one_o castle_n be_v take_v from_o the_o enemy_n and_o then_o another_o or_o some_o city_n bring_v in_o subjection_n and_o so_o one_o after_o another_o of_o mind_n as_o not_o only_o all_o shame_n lay_v aside_o they_o do_v nothing_o worthy_a of_o praise_n but_o do_v furthermore_o glory_n &_o rejoice_v in_o their_o own_o error_n and_o defect_n and_o in_o this_o they_o be_v not_o unlike_a to_o those_o angel_n who_o fall_v from_o heaven_n and_o together_o with_o their_o most_o grievous_a ruin_n lose_v also_o all_o their_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o transgression_n in_o the_o observation_n of_o their_o vow_n not_o consider_v or_o mark_v that_o the_o essence_n of_o a_o religious_a man_n be_v in_o his_o vow_n that_o they_o make_v or_o mar_v to_o the_o good_a or_o hurt_n of_o their_o soul_n that_o of_o the_o same_o depend_v all_o the_o good_a or_o evil_n of_o religion_n scandal_n or_o edification_n and_o my_o glory_n also_o because_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o i_o and_o final_o the_o merit_n itself_o of_o the_o three_o principal_a virtue_n that_o be_v comprehend_v in_o the_o vow_n wherefore_o if_o there_o be_v not_o need_v of_o great_a care_n and_o vigilancy_n that_o we_o fail_v not_o in_o our_o duty_n i_o know_v not_o in_o what_o there_o will_v be_v need_n and_o if_o a_o man_n will_v not_o show_v a_o fervour_n and_o zeal_n in_o this_o thing_n i_o see_v not_o wherein_o he_o shall_v declare_v and_o manifest_v the_o same_o of_o the_o three_o vow_n in_o particular_a and_o first_o of_o the_o vow_n of_o poverty_n how_o cloth_n if_o the_o religious_a will_v consider_v from_o how_o great_a incommoditye_n and_o trouble_n they_o shall_v free_v themselves_o if_o they_o shall_v in_o the_o very_a beginning_n shake_v of_o nature_n be_v prone_a to_o the_o evil_a by_o i_o forbid_v if_o he_o take_v not_o into_o his_o hand_n the_o sword_n of_o my_o law_n and_o with_o it_o cut_v off_o or_o put_v to_o flight_n whatsoever_o be_v contrary_a or_o repugnant_a to_o the_o law_n it_o will_v neither_o be_v possible_a for_o he_o to_o triumph_v in_o heaven_n nor_o on_o earth_n defend_v and_o maintain_v the_o honour_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a three_o he_o must_v fight_v as_o a_o religious_a man_n who_o as_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o many_o more_o thing_n than_o a_o christian_a secular_a man_n so_o have_v he_o more_o and_o great_a difficultye_n and_o therefore_o must_v he_o the_o more_o bestir_v himself_o and_o fortify_v himself_o with_o the_o arm_n of_o mortification_n &_o fight_v more_o manful_o with_o the_o enemy_n 4._o that_o a_o religious_a man_n may_v mortify_v his_o sense_n to_o live_v conformable_o to_o reason_n it_o be_v good_a but_o for_o the_o avoid_n of_o fall_v into_o sin_n it_o be_v better_a to_o he_o can_v possible_o have_v peace_n who_o in_o religion_n frame_v and_o order_v not_o his_o life_n according_a to_o the_o institute_n and_o spirit_n thereof_o 4._o lord_n i_o sincere_o acknowledge_v that_o contention_n do_v in_o no_o sort_n beseem_v a_o religious_a person_n but_o in_o this_o life_n there_o be_v so_o many_o toy_n and_o controversy_n and_o man_n be_v â—o_o contentious_a as_o that_o he_o who_o will_v noâ—â—ontend_v with_o they_o again_o often_o lose_v â—is_n right_a and_o be_v contemn_v and_o tread_v â—nder_a foot_n by_o other_o son_n it_o be_v better_a without_o contend_v to_o be_v bear_v down_o by_o man_n then_o by_o contend_v to_o be_v tread_v uâ—on_n by_o the_o devil_n and_o though_o all_o other_o â—hould_v contend_v yet_o none_o can_v compel_v thou_o â—o_o contend_v and_o if_o any_o will_v peradventure_o quarrel_v with_o thou_o tell_v he_o with_o the_o apostle_n we_o have_v no_o such_o custom_n neither_o will_v there_o want_v mean_n whereby_o thou_o maysthold_a
