pain_n be_v yet_o uphold_v with_o the_o joy_n of_o eternal_a salvation_n 15._o and_o can_v say_v with_o job_n though_o he_o kill_v i_o yet_o will_v i_o trust_v in_o he_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n use_v no_o unlawful_a mean_n our_o care_n be_v good_a job_n be_v renown_v by_o s._n james_n for_o a_o mirror_n of_o patience_n 11._o yet_o he_o rend_v his_o garment_n 20._o shave_v his_o head_n put_v on_o sackcloth_n and_o the_o like_a for_o a_o season_n our_o affliction_n be_v but_o short_a short_a as_o our_o life_n be_v as_o a_o span_n long_o as_o a_o vapour_n a_o weaver_n shuttle_n a_o thought_n yet_o in_o this_o short_a time_n our_o good_a day_n have_v be_v â—o_o then_o our_o affliction_n 9_o we_o think_v they_o long_o if_o they_o have_v be_v on_o we_o a_o few_o day_n 3._o but_o it_o be_v of_o any_o thing_n in_o that_o kind_n be_v much_o but_o much_o of_o the_o world_n seem_v yet_o small_a mammon_n be_v much_o behold_v to_o they_o god_n and_o their_o soul_n but_o a_o little_a therein_o hope_n to_o be_v save_v by_o their_o good_a meaning_n good_a prayer_n and_o civil_a life_n and_o either_o do_v not_o at_o all_o look_n to_o christ_n or_o but_o to_o half_n be_v as_o good_a as_o not_o at_o all_o so_o those_o that_o make_v god_n a_o idol_n all_o of_o mercy_n and_o no_o justice_n when_o as_o they_o be_v both_o essential_o in_o he_o and_o he_o can_v not_o be_v god_n without_o both_o and_o the_o one_o be_v infinite_a in_o he_o as_o the_o other_o yet_o by_o cry_v god_n mercy_n they_o think_v to_o escape_v never_o consider_v how_o his_o justice_n shall_v be_v answer_v but_o he_o itself_o or_o from_o the_o preach_a of_o it_o or_o the_o preacher_n and_o professor_n thereof_o or_o from_o themselves_o against_o the_o word_n itself_o 329._o be_v these_o 1._o some_o say_v if_o they_o know_v indeed_o it_o be_v god_n word_n they_o will_v as_o good_a reason_n they_o shall_v believe_v and_o be_v rule_v by_o it_o but_o that_o they_o can_v tell_v but_o he_o that_o have_v not_o die_v for_o r._n that_o they_o be_v free_v from_o sin_n altogether_o but_o that_o they_o hate_v all_o sin_n that_o they_o resist_v it_o and_o often_o prevail_v against_o the_o same_o whereof_o if_o at_o any_o time_n they_o be_v overcome_v yet_o they_o rise_v again_o by_o unfeigned_a repentance_n and_o stand_v up_o upon_o their_o watch_n for_o in_o the_o best_a of_o god_n servant_n there_o will_v some_o of_o the_o canaanilist_n brood_n remain_v as_o prick_n in_o our_o side_n but_o so_o long_o as_o we_o keep_v they_o tributary_n we_o must_v not_o be_v discourage_v though_o our_o corruption_n sally_n out_o upon_o we_o sometime_o yet_o if_o we_o make_v war_n upon_o they_o and_o chase_v they_o home_o and_o so_o weaken_v they_o they_o shall_v not_o prevail_v over_o we_o the_o church_n be_v not_o in_o this_o world_n without_o spot_n except_o it_o be_v by_o imputation_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n 25._o for_o in_o respect_n of_o sanctification_n it_o be_v but_o begin_v to_o be_v cleanse_v and_o shall_v be_v perfect_v in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v thus_o in_o general_n in_o particular_a repentance_n the_o two_o clause_n here_o mention_v contain_v the_o two_o part_n of_o repentance_n or_o sanctification_n namely_o mortification_n and_o vivification_n or_o die_v unto_o sin_n and_o live_v unto_o righteousness_n dead_a unto_o sin_n it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o every_o christian_a in_o token_n of_o his_o thankfulness_n to_o god_n that_o have_v deliver_v he_o from_o this_o most_o woeful_a state_n lust_n to_o set_v himself_o to_o mortify_v his_o lust_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o evil_n and_o that_o every_o day_n more_o and_o more_o though_o we_o can_v be_v dead_a to_o sin_n at_o once_o it_o be_v a_o work_n of_o our_o whole_a life_n yet_o must_v we_o be_v dead_a to_o the_o love_n of_o all_o sin_n open_a or_o secret_a outward_a or_o inward_a and_o so_o die_v daily_o as_o christ_n die_v so_o shall_v we_o labour_v and_o be_v more_o and_o more_o dead_a to_o our_o lust_n as_o he_o be_v crucify_v so_o shall_v we_o crucify_v they_o etc._n etc._n and_o can_v we_o live_v in_o sin_n that_o cost_v the_o price_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n who_o will_v not_o abhor_v and_o cast_v from_o he_o the_o knife_n that_o kill_v his_o dear_a friend_n thus_o do_v sin_n to_o our_o saviour_n christ_n it_o be_v that_o which_o bring_v he_o to_o his_o death_n 1._o the_o thing_n then_o that_o best_o beseem_v a_o christian_n 1_o be_v to_o mortify_v his_o vile_a lust_n to_o find_v they_o out_o to_o hate_v and_o pursue_v they_o to_o the_o death_n to_o apply_v all_o mean_n to_o the_o weaken_n and_o kill_v thereof_o ever_o hack_v at_o the_o root_n thereof_o by_o continual_a prayer_n and_o meditation_n apply_v the_o word_n mercy_n correction_n all_o to_o the_o throat_n of_o our_o corruption_n for_o as_o nothing_o be_v more_o unbeseeming_a a_o christian_n then_o to_o be_v carry_v away_o of_o any_o lust_n so_o this_o shall_v be_v our_o continual_a exercise_n to_o be_v continual_o weaken_v our_o corruption_n this_o be_v true_a religion_n it_o stand_v not_o in_o hear_v sermon_n but_o in_o mortify_v our_o lust_n and_o bring_v our_o rebellious_a heart_n in_o subjection_n to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o as_o we_o be_v to_o labour_v for_o the_o subdue_a of_o all_o so_o be_v we_o especial_o of_o our_o strong_a corruption_n that_o have_v most_o foil_v we_o most_o break_v our_o peace_n most_o dishonour_a god_n and_o have_v be_v of_o worst_a example_n 2._o this_o rebuke_v a_o wonderful_a fault_n in_o most_o christian_n 2._o that_o howsoever_o they_o have_v general_a purpose_n to_o resist_v sin_n and_o to_o do_v well_o yet_o think_v that_o they_o be_v not_o continual_o to_o labour_v for_o the_o mortify_n thereof_o wherein_o fail_v they_o do_v sometime_o yield_v and_o give_v way_n to_o their_o lust_n to_o break_v out_o into_o open_a evil_n vain_a speech_n slight_a oath_n worldly_a talk_v on_o the_o lord_n day_n game_n and_o the_o like_a so_o for_o their_o inward_a lust_n of_o pride_n covetousness_n frowardness_n security_n dulness_n to_o duty_n unbelief_n coldness_n and_o customariness_n in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n alas_o these_o they_o look_v not_o after_o but_o almost_o lay_v the_o reign_n on_o the_o neck_n of_o they_o so_o that_o if_o they_o reign_v not_o in_o they_o yet_o they_o break_v out_o at_o every_o turn_n and_o be_v very_a rank_n in_o they_o and_o show_v forth_o themselves_o gross_o to_o god_n dishonour_n their_o own_o discomfort_n and_o the_o continual_a breach_n of_o their_o peace_n with_o much_o evil_a example_n to_o other_o 24._o as_o we_o will_v prove_v ourselves_o christ_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o crucify_v the_o flesh_n with_o the_o affection_n and_o lust_n thereof_o let_v we_o deal_v
good_a we_o must_v endeavour_v to_o live_v under_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n where_o we_o may_v know_v the_o will_n of_o god_n and_o be_v thereby_o direct_v unto_o salvation_n this_o condemn_v the_o most_o unmerciful_a hardheartedness_n of_o the_o world_n use._n that_o have_v no_o pity_n on_o themselves_o for_o their_o spiritual_a misery_n nay_o will_v not_o take_v knowledge_n of_o they_o but_o hate_v those_o that_o will_v help_v they_o out_o of_o they_o or_o know_v they_o yet_o be_v content_a either_o to_o abide_v in_o the_o same_o without_o any_o regard_n or_o bless_v themselves_o in_o their_o condition_n as_o if_o either_o it_o be_v not_o so_o bad_a as_o it_o be_v or_o they_o may_v come_v out_o of_o it_o when_o they_o will_v will_v we_o not_o pity_v ourselves_o if_o we_o be_v blind_a lame_a naked_a disease_v in_o our_o body_n such_o be_v we_o in_o soul_n but_o where_o be_v our_o pity_n who_o will_v live_v in_o a_o place_n where_o there_o be_v no_o bread_n or_o in_o a_o town_n besiege_v by_o enemy_n wherein_o there_o be_v no_o watchman_n to_o give_v warning_n simile_n but_o not_o a_o few_o live_v where_o there_o be_v neither_o preach_v nor_o preacher_n as_o peter_n bid_v christ_n favour_v himself_o so_o may_v we_o bid_v these_o pity_n themselves_o o_o consider_v of_o the_o worth_n of_o your_o soul_n and_o of_o the_o misery_n wherein_o they_o now_o be_v and_o if_o not_o now_o prevent_v hereafter_o shall_v be_v how_o do_v we_o take_v on_o if_o our_o finger_n be_v but_o a_o little_a burn_v with_o a_o candle_n shall_v we_o not_o therefore_o stand_v in_o fear_n of_o the_o everlasting_a burn_a in_o hell_n who_o will_v pity_v you_o if_o you_o pity_v not_o your_o own_o soul_n or_o who_o will_v commit_v unto_o you_o their_o soul_n to_o be_v care_v for_o that_o have_v no_o pity_n of_o your_o own_o if_o god_n cast_v you_o into_o eternal_a torment_n without_o pity_n yet_o you_o must_v needs_o blame_v yourselves_o as_o those_o who_o have_v no_o pity_n of_o yourselves_o o_o pity_v yourselves_o though_o it_o be_v with_o some_o pain_n to_o your_o body_n if_o your_o body_n do_v your_o soul_n a_o good_a turn_n as_o by_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o word_n be_v profit_v thereby_o they_o will_v requite_v they_o a_o thousand_o fold_n pity_v towards_o other_o other_o be_v either_o in_o respect_n of_o their_o soul_n or_o their_o body_n in_o respect_n of_o their_o soul_n it_o must_v be_v our_o care_n and_o labour_n to_o help_v they_o out_o of_o such_o misery_n and_o bondage_n as_o they_o lie_v under_o 23._o thus_o must_v prince_n be_v careful_a of_o their_o subject_n soul_n 72._o be_v unto_o they_o as_o nurse_n father_n and_o nurse_n mother_n feed_v they_o guide_v they_o and_o with_o asa_n hezekiah_n josiah_n jehoshaphat_n etc._n etc._n provide_v that_o they_o may_v be_v instruct_v in_o their_o duty_n 4._o thus_o must_v magistrate_n of_o the_o people_n among_o who_o they_o live_v encourage_v the_o good_a and_o punish_v the_o bad_a thus_o minister_n as_o watchman_n tell_v people_n of_o any_o danger_n as_o shepherd_n feed_v they_o 4._o and_o as_o guide_v lead_v they_o they_o must_v preach_v to_o the_o capacity_n of_o the_o mean_a of_o their_o child_n bring_v they_o up_o in_o the_o narture_n and_o fear_n of_o the_o lord_n thus_o husband_n of_o their_o wife_n soul_n 4._o master_n of_o their_o servant_n all_o of_o we_o each_o of_o other_o help_v they_o that_o live_v in_o ignorance_n out_o of_o it_o in_o what_o you_o can_v bring_v home_o the_o impenitent_a comfort_v they_o that_o be_v afflict_v yea_o we_o be_v even_o to_o pity_v those_o that_o be_v further_o off_o or_o dwell_v in_o other_o country_n who_o be_v yet_o without_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n as_o also_o to_o pity_v their_o soul_n who_o do_v not_o yet_o pity_v themselves_o reason_n what_o may_v not_o induce_v we_o hereunto_o god_n be_v full_a of_o compassion_n and_o mercy_n 13._o such_o a_o account_n make_v he_o of_o our_o soul_n 16._o as_o to_o save_v they_o he_o give_v the_o blood_n of_o his_o own_o son_n christ_n jesus_n so_o pity_v we_o as_o he_o be_v content_a to_o abase_v himself_o to_o the_o state_n of_o man_n 8._o take_v people_n sin_n such_o poison_n and_o murder_v the_o soul_n so_o of_o ungodly_a magistrate_n who_o hinder_v the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n in_o what_o they_o can_v so_o of_o ignorant_a heretical_a corrupt_a teacher_n raven_a wolf_n such_o starve_v or_o poison_v soul_n they_o clothe_v themselves_o with_o the_o fleece_n but_o care_v not_o for_o the_o flock_n so_o of_o wicked_a and_o unconscionable_a patron_n that_o for_o kindred_n favour_n or_o money_n put_v in_o such_o as_o god_n never_o call_v be_v no_o way_n fit_a for_o that_o weighty_a call_n utter_o unapt_a to_o teach_v have_v neither_o ability_n nor_o willingness_n thereto_o be_v such_o as_o seek_v their_o ease_n and_o pleasure_n so_o of_o wicked_a father_n that_o buy_v live_n for_o their_o son_n though_o never_o so_o unsufficient_a so_o of_o careless_a and_o ungodly_a parent_n that_o have_v no_o care_n of_o the_o education_n of_o their_o child_n provide_v for_o they_o food_n gay_a clothes_n and_o great_a portion_n but_o no_o good_a instruction_n simile_n if_o they_o be_v take_v captive_n of_o the_o turk_n they_o will_v mourn_v but_o be_v no_o whit_n move_v with_o pity_n though_o they_o be_v indeed_o slave_n unto_o satan_n if_o but_o their_o finger_n ache_v they_o be_v grieve_v what_o shall_v they_o then_o be_v see_v so_o many_o ugly_a sore_n of_o deadly_a sin_n run_v upon_o they_o so_o of_o neighbour_n that_o little_a regard_n those_o they_o live_v by_o though_o ignorant_a impenitent_a etc._n etc._n they_o be_v not_o trouble_v at_o it_o show_v little_a mercy_n this_o way_n so_o if_o any_o be_v afflict_v in_o conscience_n few_o take_v the_o same_o to_o heart_n few_o do_v either_o regard_n or_o pity_v they_o assure_o such_o as_o show_v no_o mercy_n to_o the_o soul_n of_o other_o especial_o they_o that_o be_v under_o their_o charge_n shall_v have_v of_o god_n no_o mercy_n show_v on_o their_o soul_n but_o as_o it_o be_v say_v 24._o eye_n for_o eye_n tooth_n for_o tooth_n so_o will_v he_o make_v they_o pay_v soul_n for_o soul_n their_o blood_n shall_v be_v require_v of_o they_o there_o shall_v be_v judgement_n without_o mercy_n 13._o to_o they_o that_o show_v no_o mercy_n yea_o god_n will_v especial_o unconscionable_a and_o unmerciful_a minister_n 6._o not_o only_o in_o themselves_o and_o their_o good_n so_o get_v 6._o but_o also_o in_o their_o child_n contrary_o to_o those_o that_o have_v pity_v soul_n 7._o god_n will_v show_v mercy_n godly_a king_n and_o magistrate_n 16._o with_o jehoshaphat_n hezekiah_n and_o nehemiah_n god_n will_v bless_v and_o remember_v they_o in_o goodness_n 8._o also_o godly_a painful_a and_o merciful_a minister_n shall_v both_o save_v themselves_o and_o they_o that_o hear_v they_o they_o shall_v shine_v as_o the_o star_n and_o receive_v a_o incorruptible_a crown_n of_o glory_n 8._o be_v careful_a in_o their_o place_n they_o be_v what_o effect_n soever_o their_o labour_n have_v a_o sweet_a savour_n to_o god_n 15._o the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o parent_n who_o be_v careful_a in_o their_o child_n education_n and_o of_o godly_a neighbour_n which_o seek_v the_o good_a of_o their_o soul_n with_o who_o they_o live_v god_n will_v requite_v it_o into_o their_o bosom_n as_o have_v do_v a_o great_a work_n o_o let_v we_o be_v provoke_v to_o have_v more_o regard_n and_o pity_n of_o the_o misery_n of_o soul_n then_o ever_o if_o we_o be_v careful_a of_o our_o own_o we_o will_v also_o be_v
