that_o we_o do_v not_o think_v that_o our_o pardon_n be_v procure_v by_o any_o inherent_a virtue_n of_o the_o outward_a element_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n or_o that_o our_o partake_n of_o these_o alone_o will_v procure_v this_o remission_n of_o sin_n for_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n be_v procure_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o we_o attain_v not_o to_o it_o without_o a_o lively_a faith_n and_o a_o perform_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o gospel_n but_o if_o we_o do_v this_o we_o have_v good_a assurance_n of_o pardon_n when_o we_o partake_v of_o this_o sacrament_n which_o be_v the_o ministry_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n but_o then_o we_o must_v have_v a_o faith_n in_o christ_n that_o be_v as_o we_o eat_v the_o outward_a element_n of_o bread_n and_o drink_v the_o as_o our_o prophet_n to_o instruct_v and_o teach_v we_o as_o our_o lord_n to_o rule_v and_o govern_v we_o as_o well_o as_o our_o priest_n to_o make_v a_o satisfaction_n for_o we_o to_o the_o divine_a justice_n and_o as_o we_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n for_o our_o bodily_a food_n so_o we_o must_v hunger_n after_o the_o spiritual_a provision_n that_o christ_n have_v make_v for_o our_o soul_n we_o must_v earnest_o breathe_v after_o righteousness_n and_o purity_n of_o heart_n there_o must_v be_v in_o our_o soul_n a_o hunger_n and_o a_o thirst_n they_o must_v receive_v and_o feed_v and_o not_o our_o body_n only_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n that_o quicken_v the_o flesh_n profit_v nothing_o john_n 6.63_o as_o our_o mouth_n eat_v the_o outward_a element_n so_o faith_n must_v eat_v too_o and_o it_o be_v not_o a_o notion_n not_o a_o empty_a nothing_o that_o will_v feed_v a_o lively_a faith_n it_o convey_v as_o real_a a_o supply_n to_o the_o soul_n as_o the_o outward_a element_n do_v nourishment_n to_o the_o body_n the_o body_n receive_v the_o outward_a symbol_n the_o soul_n the_o inward_a grace_n we_o eat_v and_o drink_v the_o element_n but_o it_o be_v the_o soul_n that_o feed_v on_o the_o thing_n signify_v and_o represent_v and_o therefore_o let_v not_o the_o sinner_n who_o live_v in_o his_o sin_n and_o love_v it_o think_v to_o obtain_v his_o pardon_n by_o partake_v of_o this_o sacrament_n this_o sacrament_n will_v not_o avail_v such_o a_o man_n as_o this_o be_v for_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n will_v profit_v he_o nothing_o if_o he_o live_v in_o his_o sin_n and_o love_v they_o and_o therefore_o this_o sacrament_n can_v avail_v he_o nothing_o it_o be_v but_o the_o annunciation_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o it_o can_v save_v that_o sinner_n who_o the_o death_n of_o his_o lord_n do_v not_o avail_v it_o be_v a_o vain_a thing_n for_o such_o a_o sinner_n to_o take_v sanctuary_n here_o if_o there_o be_v not_o in_o our_o soul_n a_o clear_o in_o this_o sacrament_n but_o while_o we_o love_v our_o sin_n we_o be_v uncapable_a of_o this_o grace_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o burden_a and_o the_o ladened_a sinner_n that_o shall_v find_v this_o favour_n it_o be_v he_o that_o hate_v his_o sin_n and_o strive_v against_o it_o these_o be_v those_o who_o christ_n come_v to_o seek_v and_o save_v it_o be_v not_o the_o outward_a work_n will_v save_v we_o if_o there_o be_v not_o in_o we_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n there_o be_v no_o pardon_n in_o the_o gospel_n for_o the_o obdurate_a and_o impenitent_a sinner_n and_o therefore_o we_o may_v not_o then_o so_o cruel_a to_o your_o own_o soul_n as_o to_o be_v unprepared_a for_o death_n this_o make_v you_o liable_a to_o not_o only_o a_o great_a sorrow_n but_o a_o everlasting_a sorrow_n also_o
