of_o all_o that_o be_v serious_a in_o those_o that_o think_v themselves_o too_o great_a to_o be_v religious_a do_v not_o enervate_a the_o force_n of_o christianity_n upon_o their_o mind_n and_o make_v they_o all_o though_o upon_o different_a ground_n agree_v in_o the_o neglect_n of_o their_o own_o salvation_n but_o be_v the_o case_n of_o such_o man_n grow_v so_o desperate_a that_o no_o remedy_n that_o think_v to_o be_v save_v by_o their_o obedience_n to_o the_o gospel_n from_o the_o assistance_n of_o divine_a grace_n but_o against_o those_o who_o think_v the_o grace_n and_o indulgence_n of_o the_o gospel_n by_o no_o mean_n necessary_a in_o order_n to_o the_o pardon_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o their_o eternal_a happiness_n two_o thing_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n main_o design_n to_o prove_v in_o the_o begin_n of_o it_o first_o the_o insufficiency_n of_o any_o other_o way_n of_o salvation_n beside_o that_o offer_v by_o the_o gospel_n whether_o it_o be_v the_o light_n of_o nature_n which_o the_o gentile_n contend_v for_o but_o be_v far_o from_o live_v according_a to_o it_o or_o that_o imaginary_a covenant_n of_o work_n which_o the_o jew_n fancy_v to_o themselves_o for_o it_o will_v be_v a_o very_a hard_a matter_n to_o prove_v that_o ever_o god_n enter_v into_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n with_o fall_v man_n which_o he_o know_v it_o be_v impossible_a for_o he_o to_o observe_v but_o they_o be_v so_o high_o opinionate_a of_o themselves_o and_o of_o those_o legal_a observation_n which_o be_v among_o they_o that_o they_o think_v by_o virtue_n of_o they_o they_o can_v merit_v so_o much_o favour_n at_o god_n hand_n that_o there_o be_v no_o need_n of_o any_o other_o sacrifice_n but_o what_o be_v among_o themselves_o to_o expiate_v the_o guilt_n of_o all_o their_o passage_n thither_o but_o while_o they_o continue_v here_o as_o the_o jew_n say_v of_o the_o water_n that_o come_v out_o of_o the_o rock_n it_o follow_v they_o while_o they_o travel_v through_o this_o wilderness_n below_o so_o that_o the_o foundation_n of_o a_o christian_n happiness_n be_v the_o expectation_n of_o a_o life_n to_o come_v which_o expectation_n have_v so_o firm_a a_o bottom_n as_o the_o assurance_n which_o christ_n have_v give_v we_o by_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n it_o have_v power_n and_o influence_n sufficient_a to_o bear_v up_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n against_o all_o the_o vicissitude_n of_o this_o present_a state_n 2._o we_o have_v the_o most_o large_a and_o free_a offer_n of_o divine_a goodness_n in_o order_n to_o it_o be_v it_o as_o easy_a for_o man_n to_o govern_v his_o own_o passion_n as_o to_o know_v that_o he_o ought_v to_o do_v it_o be_v the_o impression_n of_o reason_n and_o religion_n as_o powerful_a with_o mankind_n as_o those_o of_o folly_n and_o wickedness_n be_v we_o shall_v never_o need_v complain_v much_o of_o the_o misery_n of_o our_o present_a state_n or_o have_v any_o cause_n to_o fear_v a_o worse_a to_o come_v there_o will_v then_o be_v no_o condition_n here_o but_o what_o may_v be_v bear_v with_o satisfaction_n to_o one_o own_o mind_n and_o the_o life_n one_o day_n lead_v according_a to_o the_o principle_n of_o virtue_n such_o fury_n drive_v we_o no_o wonder_n if_o our_o ease_n be_v little_a when_o man_n begin_v first_o to_o leave_v the_o uncertain_a speculation_n of_o nature_n and_o find_v themselves_o so_o out_o of_o order_n that_o they_o think_v the_o great_a care_n ought_v to_o be_v to_o regulate_v their_o own_o action_n how_o soon_o do_v their_o passion_n discover_v themselves_o about_o the_o way_n to_o govern_v they_o and_o they_o all_o agree_v in_o this_o that_o there_o be_v great_a need_n to_o do_v it_o and_o that_o it_o be_v impossible_a to_o do_v it_o without_o the_o principle_n of_o virtue_n
