â—â—l_a payment_n of_o either_o by_o tithe_n be_v mean_v the_o outward_a conversation_n in_o the_o same_o manner_n they_o lie_v down_o one_o load_n and_o be_v willing_a to_o take_v up_o another_o the_o author_n will_v have_v all_o humane_a wisdom_n and_o knowledge_n overturn_v before_o we_o can_v come_v to_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n yet_o nevertheless_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n do_v remain_v proper_a to_o he_o yea_o though_o he_o renouncee_v his_o intellect_n so_o that_o in_o this_o very_a point_n the_o writer_n err_v in_o which_o he_o tax_v other_o and_o in_o truth_n far_o more_o vile_o see_v that_o he_o thereby_o will_v come_v to_o a_o great_a knowledge_n but_o especial_o that_o he_o by_o the_o mean_n of_o his_o temerity_n will_v arrive_v at_o that_o which_o other_o give_v glory_n unto_o god_n glory_n be_v not_o give_v to_o god_n before_o that_o a_o man_n arrive_v at_o or_o come_v unto_o his_o death_n and_o be_v estrange_v from_o himself_o and_o god_n do_v take_v up_o his_o room_n or_o place_n who_o keep_v govern_v lead_v and_o exercise_v he_o above_o all_o reason_n which_o reason_n here_o neither_o see_v nor_o know_v any_o door_n of_o escape_n but_o be_v day_n and_o night_n yet_o when_o all_o these_o be_v take_v away_o he_o must_v at_o length_n come_v into_o death_n that_o god_n may_v come_v and_o take_v his_o place_n and_o administer_v all_o thing_n become_v passive_a and_o god_n operate_v in_o he_o as_o the_o conscience_n and_o the_o mind_n be_v captivate_v and_o saden_v when_o it_o be_v well_o with_o the_o flesh_n so_o when_o the_o flesh_n come_v into_o death_n the_o mind_n and_o conscience_n be_v exhilerate_v and_o set_v at_o liberty_n many_o and_o great_a gift_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n do_v come_v real_o into_o a_o man_n which_o yet_o be_v not_o regeneration_n but_o they_o go_v and_o come_v whereas_o that_o be_v regeneration_n when_o &_o where_o god_n have_v plant_v his_o habitation_n and_o god_n be_v become_v one_o with_o man_n in_o god_n neither_o the_o world_n not_o pleasure_n nor_o joy_n be_v suffer_v nature_n must_v want_v all_o these_o when_o the_o mind_n stand_v in_o god_n they_o who_o stand_v under_o grace_n may_v most_o patient_o accept_v from_o the_o lord_n whatsoever_o he_o have_v fore-ordained_n by_o his_o power_n over_o we_o be_v to_o our_o utmost_a resign_v up_o to_o he_o alone_o continual_o according_a to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o contrary_a to_o the_o will_n of_o man_n if_o a_o man_n follow_v his_o concupiscence_n in_o small_a thing_n he_o follow_v it_o also_o in_o great_a thing_n that_o which_o he_o must_v do_v that_o he_o can_v omit_v for_o it_o be_v a_o thing_n try_v and_o prove_v by_o experience_n if_o therefore_o one_o will_v not_o follow_v his_o lust_n in_o great_a thing_n he_o be_v not_o to_o follow_v it_o then_o in_o small_a thing_n for_o he_o who_o be_v willing_a to_o omit_v great_a matter_n will_v also_o omit_v small_a to_o be_v deficient_a to_o one_o self_n as_o to_o nature_n and_o to_o suffer_v therein_o be_v very_o pleasant_a to_o the_o mind_n for_o whatever_o be_v cut_v off_o from_o the_o flesh_n by_o reason_n of_o conscience_n be_v profitable_a to_o he_o be_v make_v ashamed_a to_o be_v in_o indignation_n because_o of_o adversity_n be_v a_o sign_n that_o a_o man_n be_v and_o be_v willing_a to_o remain_v something_o which_o something_o must_v notwithstanding_o be_v turn_v into_o nothing_o whatever_o thereof_o be_v contrary_a to_o this_o something_o must_v be_v bear_v with_o or_o endure_v that_o that_o may_v be_v reduce_v into_o its_o still_o adjudge_v by_o i_o to_o be_v excellent_a and_o worthy_a yea_o even_o when_o it_o be_v winter_n time_n but_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v more_o precious_a to_o i_o than_o all_o thing_n my_o business_n or_o labour_n be_v increase_v and_o aggravate_v yet_o be_o i_o content_v i_o keep_v my_o sorrow_n in_o silence_n for_o if_o they_o shall_v burst_v out_o and_o be_v make_v public_a clamour_n and_o complain_n will_v daily_o be_v hear_v from_o i_o because_o judgement_n be_v always_o exercise_v upon_o i_o without_o consolation_n nor_o can_v i_o have_v either_o delight_n or_o joy_n or_o henry_n nicholas_n in_o truth_n i_o do_v it_o with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a and_o not_o with_o pleasure_n i_o neither_o may_v nor_o can_v assent_v to_o their_o opinion_n for_o they_o be_v deprave_v and_o mighty_o lead_v aside_o inasmuch_o as_o they_o be_v fall_v into_o a_o false_a liberty_n their_o fall_n be_v most_o dangerous_a and_o most_o terrible_a for_o no_o man_n can_v come_v at_o they_o to_o reprove_v they_o so_o as_o to_o touch_v their_o conscience_n because_o nothing_o touch_v they_o and_o they_o esteem_v and_o deride_v all_o as_o if_o they_o be_v childish_a trifle_n but_o if_o patience_n be_v the_o food_n of_o the_o soul_n yea_o in_o time_n of_o pure_a necessity_n patience_n be_v that_o bread_n of_o heaven_n and_o that_o fullness_n or_o plenty_n keep_v secret_a in_o the_o treasure_n of_o god_n silence_n and_o patience_n quiet_a a_o man_n to_o have_v no_o delight_n neither_o in_o god_n nor_o in_o the_o creature_n but_o to_o perish_v on_o both_o side_n be_v the_o most_o miserable_a and_o desolate_a of_o all_o condition_n if_o then_o thou_o ask_v be_v there_o therefore_o no_o hope_n leave_v for_o thou_o i_o answer_v thy_o case_n be_v now_o the_o very_a same_o as_o if_o a_o grain_n of_o wheat_n that_o at_o this_o time_n lie_v in_o corruption_n shall_v ask_v whither_o or_o no_o there_o be_v any_o hope_n for_o it_o for_o if_o there_o can_v be_v any_o hope_n in_o quiet_a no_o where_o there_o meet_v he_o nothing_o but_o corruption_n and_o death_n and_o he_o himself_o acknowledge_v that_o this_o case_n be_v deserve_o his_o so_o that_o he_o can_v so_o much_o as_o ask_v that_o these_o thing_n may_v be_v remove_v from_o he_o he_o therefore_o do_v nothing_o but_o bow_v himself_o down_o and_o shrink_v say_v o_o lord_n o_o lord_n and_o that_o conversation_n he_o not_o with_o pleasure_n and_o when_o he_o speak_v he_o be_v involve_v in_o great_a strait_n and_o difficulty_n so_o that_o he_o have_v rather_o hold_v his_o tongue_n such_o then_o as_o can_v yet_o with_o delight_n and_o freedom_n talk_v of_o these_o matter_n by_o this_o very_a talk_n do_v they_o demonstrate_v that_o they_o be_v not_o yet_o come_v unto_o this_o state_n or_o condition_n or_o unto_o this_o exercise_n because_o delight_v and_o pleasure_n be_v still_o alive_a in_o they_o and_o they_o be_v yet_o full_a of_o corrupt_a desire_n and_o appetite_n and_o although_o they_o be_v draw_v off_o from_o the_o low_a dregs_n yet_o be_v they_o turn_v quite_o to_o the_o other_o extreme_a but_o yet_o such_o be_v not_o to_o be_v repute_v to_o be_v like_o the_o man_n they_o be_v before_o for_o now_o they_o be_v honest_a whenas_o former_o they_o be_v dishonest_a and_o now_o they_o be_v become_v more_o averse_a from_o themselves_o than_o they_o be_v before_o yet_o although_o they_o be_v now_o in_o part_n make_v more_o noble_a and_o more_o pure_a yet_o for_o all_o that_o there_o must_v come_v a_o death_n even_o
upon_o these_o good_a quality_n because_o concupiscence_n be_v still_o present_a and_o the_o object_n be_v only_o change_v and_o become_v more_o noble_a and_o this_o be_v that_o same_o state_n and_o condition_n which_o go_v before_o that_o same_o death_n corruption_n and_o the_o grave_n and_o must_v be_v bring_v to_o pass_v and_o no_o man_n can_v arrive_v thereat_o unless_o it_o be_v give_v to_o he_o of_o god_n for_o from_o he_o flow_v the_o help_n and_o assistance_n and_o that_o accompany_v with_o the_o desertion_n and_o renounciation_n of_o all_o thing_n visible_a and_o inferior_a by_o mean_n of_o many_o affliction_n this_o be_v that_o state_n to_o know_v christ_n according_a to_o the_o flesh_n in_o which_o all_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v leave_v before_o we_o come_v to_o the_o other_o desertion_n where_o chirst_n appear_v and_o be_v acknowledge_v or_o know_v in_o spirit_n nor_o do_v he_o ever_o appear_v as_o he_o do_v in_o the_o former_a or_o forego_v state_n to_o observe_v order_n in_o all_o thing_n and_o to_o be_v exorbitant_a in_o nothing_o keep_v the_o mind_n free_a but_o when_o it_o be_v otherwise_o there_o arise_v burden_n and_o care_n nor_o be_v there_o any_o liberty_n allow_v for_o profitable_a exercise_n because_o of_o the_o great_a heap_n of_o confusion_n that_o hinder_v the_o man_n whoever_o therefore_o will_v be_v free_v from_o all_o pernicious_a imagination_n he_o ought_v to_o beware_v that_o when_o he_o err_v upon_o one_o hand_n be_v turn_v therefrom_o that_o he_o err_v not_o also_o on_o the_o other_o for_o a_o burden_n await_v upon_o he_o on_o either_o side_n wherefore_o we_o must_v pray_v unto_o god_n to_o direct_v our_o external_a affair_n into_o a_o middle_a way_n for_o that_o middle_n be_v between_o both_o extreme_n good_a now_o this_o be_v make_v he_o restless_a whereas_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v perform_v with_o a_o turn_n unto_o god_n in_o fear_n and_o in_o thanksgiving_n then_o be_v it_o from_o god_n and_o it_o be_v right_a and_o the_o man_n be_v well_o enough_o but_o else_o affliction_n wait_v on_o the_o flesh_n chap._n xxv_o whatsoever_o have_v receive_v life_n aught_o to_o die_v paul_n say_v if_o you_o live_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n you_o shall_v die_v in_o what_o thing_n soever_o a_o man_n place_v his_o life_n according_a to_o the_o flesh_n in_o that_o very_a thing_n also_o he_o take_v his_o death_n to_o assume_v for_o its_o conservation_n and_o happiness_n any_o thing_n but_o what_o be_v before_o its_o own_o eye_n and_o be_v promise_v in_o word_n gross_o understand_v from_o the_o scripture_n if_o from_o the_o most_o inward_a secret_n of_o its_o own_o soul_n it_o will_v confess_v the_o truth_n it_o will_v indeed_o tell_v you_o of_o a_o conscience_n not_o sound_o pacify_v but_o rather_o of_o one_o that_o gnaw_v and_o torment_v unless_o it_o strive_v of_o set_a purpose_n to_o hide_v the_o true_a state_n of_o the_o matter_n but_o if_o such_o a_o one_o be_v about_o to_o object_n and_o say_v this_o be_v the_o devil_n that_o thus_o accuse_v and_o blame_v a_o man_n in_o his_o conscience_n from_o which_o notwithstanding_o any_o one_o may_v be_v free_v by_o and_o through_o christ_n desire_v if_o we_o find_v any_o difference_n in_o ourselves_o so_o as_o that_o we_o desire_v rather_o this_o than_o that_o than_o the_o whole_a thing_n be_v from_o ourselves_o and_o not_o from_o the_o creature_n to_o the_o creator_n of_o all_o whence_o all_o have_v their_o original_a and_o emanation_n and_o to_o who_o as_o unto_o their_o end_n all_o thing_n do_v return_v in_o their_o own_o time_n so_o that_o we_o also_o even_o all_o of_o we_o must_v appear_v in_o he_o by_o our_o departure_n and_o death_n in_o which_o notwithstanding_o his_o eternal_a subsistence_n be_v manifest_v as_o be_v
