and_o unspeakable_a price_n then_o we_o must_v pass_v the_o time_n of_o our_o sojourn_v here_o in_o fear_n here_o consider_v verse_n 1._o the_o benefit_n redemption_n 2._o from_o what_o their_o vain_a conversation_n which_o be_v set_v out_o by_o the_o original_a of_o it_o the_o tradition_n of_o their_o father_n 3._o the_o price_n whereby_o purchase_v which_o be_v set_v down_o first_o negative_o such_o boast_v that_o they_o be_v redeem_v that_o live_v yet_o in_o their_o sin_n that_o you_o be_v redeem_v here_o note_n 1._o that_o as_o mercy_n presuppose_v misery_n doctr._n so_o redemption_n bondage_n and_o slavery_n slavery_n neither_o be_v the_o bondage_n wherein_o we_o stand_v such_o as_o of_o pharaoh_n or_o the_o turk_n but_o ten_o thousand_o time_n worse_o even_o of_o sin_n and_o of_o the_o devil_n god_n indeed_o make_v we_o free_a in_o adam_n sin_z nor_o satan_n have_v nothing_o to_o do_v with_o we_o but_o we_o all_o sin_v in_o adam_n become_v subject_a not_o only_o to_o the_o wrath_n and_o curse_n of_o god_n the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n and_o the_o forerunner_n of_o both_o but_o to_o sin_n also_o and_o so_o by_o nature_n we_o can_v do_v nothing_o but_o sin_n we_o drink_v sin_n as_o a_o thirsty_a man_n do_v water_n it_o be_v as_o natural_a to_o we_o as_o for_o the_o fire_n to_o burn_v so_o fast_o be_v our_o will_n bind_v to_o the_o will_n of_o the_o too_o the_o more_o odious_a it_o be_v to_o they_o that_o see_v it_o and_o the_o more_o tedious_a to_o themselves_o that_o bear_v it_o now_o none_o so_o base_a in_o the_o world_n as_o sin_n and_o the_o devil_n the_o woeful_a enemy_n of_o god_n and_o our_o soul_n this_o shall_v humble_v we_o all_o use._n be_v in_o this_o woeful_a case_n and_o so_o will_v it_o do_v if_o we_o can_v be_v bring_v to_o believe_v it_o 33._o but_o as_o the_o jew_n we_o think_v we_o be_v never_o in_o bondage_n to_o any_o and_o find_v our_o body_n at_o liberty_n conceive_v so_o of_o our_o soul_n whereas_o both_o be_v in_o a_o spiritual_a bondage_n unto_o evil_n nay_o such_o be_v our_o woeful_a bondage_n as_o we_o can_v believe_v we_o be_v in_o it_o nor_o can_v desire_v to_o come_v out_o of_o it_o but_o natural_o we_o love_v and_o desire_v it_o &_o thereupon_o be_v enemy_n to_o the_o mean_n of_o our_o freedom_n most_o think_v that_o if_o they_o may_v have_v their_o lust_n satisfy_v and_o fetch_v their_o bring_v to_o the_o word_n prayer_n reading_n repetition_n catechise_v and_o the_o like_a o_o fie_o upon_o it_o say_v they_o here_o be_v a_o bondage_n a_o slavery_n who_o will_v be_v tie_v thus_o if_o my_o year_n be_v our_o once_o i_o will_v lay_v a_o stone_n there_o etc._n etc._n this_o be_v a_o hard_a say_n who_o can_v bear_v it_o let_v we_o break_v their_o band_n and_o cast_v their_o coard_n from_o we_o if_o this_o preach_a be_v suffer_v we_o shall_v do_v nothing_o short_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v merry_a we_o shall_v have_v our_o hand_n bind_v behind_o we_o thus_o count_v god_n service_n confess_v he_o will_v build_v his_o church_n will_v he_o build_v it_o on_o peter_n then_o either_o on_o his_o person_n or_o on_o his_o faith_n not_o on_o his_o person_n and_o how_o weak_a be_v his_o faith_n which_o be_v so_o sore_o shake_v by_o the_o speech_n of_o a_o maid_n that_o can_v be_v no_o meat_n foundation_n to_o build_v on_o 4._o those_o fool_n among_o ourselves_o who_o though_o they_o acknowledge_v no_o other_o foundation_n yet_o build_v not_o upon_o he_o but_o on_o their_o civil_a life_n their_o bare_a hear_n of_o the_o word_n which_o yet_o they_o do_v because_o it_o be_v command_v by_o law_n and_o stand_v most_o with_o their_o safety_n and_o as_o the_o papist_n but_o for_o their_o purse_n so_o they_o will_v not_o come_v to_o church_n but_o for_o shame_n or_o punishment_n their_o do_v as_o other_o do_v etc._n etc._n foolish_a builder_n that_o build_v on_o the_o sand_n their_o house_n as_o every_o other_o that_o be_v not_o build_v on_o christ_n by_o true_a faith_n how_o fair_a soever_o in_o their_o own_o eye_n will_v fall_v on_o their_o head_n if_o any_o storm_n of_o trouble_n arise_v for_o the_o gospel_n they_o will_v quck_o yield_v and_o change_v as_o oft_o as_o religion_n change_v and_o if_o no_o such_o change_n be_v yet_o at_o death_n they_o shall_v drop_v into_o hell_n for_o want_n of_o a_o foundation_n as_o the_o five_o foolish_a virgin_n be_v shut_v out_o of_o heaven_n for_o that_o they_o have_v no_o oil_n for_o their_o lamp_n no_o stock_n of_o faith_n to_o feed_v or_o back_v their_o outward_a profession_n they_o that_o content_n themselves_o with_o any_o thing_n with_o any_o gift_n before_o they_o have_v get_v a_o true_a justify_v faith_n will_v fall_v away_o will_v perish_v may_v prove_v persecutor_n or_o any_o thing_n they_o that_o so_o hear_v the_o word_n as_o they_o never_o give_v over_o till_o it_o have_v humble_v they_o and_o bring_v they_o to_o christ_n and_o they_o have_v find_v sure_a foundation_n on_o he_o and_o foot_v and_o grace_n to_o be_v change_v these_o build_v upon_o the_o rock_n therefore_o content_v not_o yourselves_o with_o hear_v the_o word_n nay_o hearing_n it_o with_o joy_n and_o reform_v many_o thing_n nay_o that_o you_o have_v be_v trouble_v for_o your_o sin_n as_o some_o have_v weep_v for_o their_o sin_n at_o a_o sermon_n but_o let_v it_o go_v over_o and_o wear_v away_o ere_o they_o come_v at_o christ_n so_o bear_v yourselves_o in_o hand_n that_o you_o be_v convert_v person_n for_o afterward_o by_o your_o fall_v away_o or_o at_o your_o death_n it_o will_v prove_v nothing_o so_o your_o mind_n 3._o consider_v who_o he_o be_v and_o what_o thou_o be_v and_o it_o will_v much_o take_v away_o the_o bitterness_n of_o affliction_n for_o you_o so_o some_o read_v even_o for_o servant_n for_o the_o mean_a with_o he_o be_v no_o respect_n of_o person_n mean_a no_o rich_a nor_o poor_a bond_n nor_o free_a in_o christ_n the_o one_o have_v as_o good_a right_n as_o the_o other_o nay_o though_o god_n have_v some_o of_o all_o yet_o most_v of_o the_o mean_a be_v christ_n 5._o they_o receive_v the_o gospel_n this_o may_v make_v the_o mean_a of_o the_o world_n to_o bear_v their_o condition_n the_o more_o patient_o use._n and_o comfortable_o they_o have_v part_n in_o christ_n if_o fault_n be_v not_o in_o themselves_o and_o may_v be_v heir_n of_o grace_n but_o for_o the_o most_o part_n the_o poor_a of_o all_o exclude_v themselves_o and_o i_o know_v not_o how_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n go_v out_o heavy_o against_o they_o leave_v we_o a_o example_n etc._n etc._n we_o must_v not_o set_v christ_n before_o we_o and_o consider_v he_o as_o a_o mediator_n and_o saviour_n only_o imitation_n but_o as_o a_o pattern_n and_o example_n to_o follow_v and_o that_o a_o most_o perfect_a and_o the_o greatness_n of_o the_o mercy_n so_o that_o ever_o anon_o they_o be_v to_o seek_v and_o ready_a to_o faint_v and_o for_o the_o other_o their_o heart_n witness_v the_o true_a hatred_n of_o all_o sin_n and_o care_v to_o please_v god_n in_o all_o thing_n but_o herein_o they_o think_v they_o do_v nothing_o as_o they_o shall_v and_o that_o they_o can_v do_v no_o good_a and_o even_o when_o they_o have_v do_v duty_n very_o careful_o yet_o be_v they_o still_o trouble_v as_o if_o they_o do_v all_o for_o fear_n of_o pain_n and_o hell_n and_o not_o for_o the_o love_n of_o god_n or_o out_o duty_n and_o that_o they_o themselves_o be_v vile_a wretch_n yea_o though_o they_o hate_v they_o deadly_a yet_o this_o do_v not_o satisfy_v they_o they_o hate_v they_o not_o so_o much_o as_o they_o commandment_n simile_n they_o be_v like_a to_o two_o traveller_n through_o a_o wilderness_n or_o in_o a_o dark_a night_n one_o of_o good_a courage_n afraid_a of_o nothing_o the_o other_o of_o a_o fearful_a nature_n afraid_a of_o every_o thing_n both_o which_o get_v well_o through_o so_o do_v these_o the_o one_o have_v experience_n of_o god_n goodness_n in_o not_o be_v trouble_v and_o tempt_v can_v be_v deny_v but_o
courageous_a in_o a_o good_a cause_n then_o stomackful_a if_o patient_a then_o blockish_a if_o wise_a in_o their_o matter_n then_o subtle_a fellow_n if_o diligent_a in_o their_o place_n very_o officious_a busy_a meddler_n troublesome_a if_o they_o run_v not_o to_o the_o same_o excess_n with_o other_o then_o precise_a fool_n etc._n etc._n thus_o even_o for_o their_o godliness_n do_v they_o
