reason_n be_v altogether_o blind_v and_o wrap_v in_o these_o snare_n incline_v to_o this_o opinion_n that_o there_o be_v no_o god_n or_o else_o that_o he_o regard_v not_o the_o affair_n of_o man_n church_n heart_n and_o let_v thy_o saint_n rejoice_v here_o we_o see_v that_o god_n be_v not_o delight_v with_o the_o heaviness_n unquietness_n and_o vexation_n of_o conscience_n which_o sin_n and_o from_o god_n dwell_v and_o abide_v there_o by_o his_o word_n like_a as_o we_o believe_v that_o christ_n be_v the_o throne_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o which_o be_v the_o treasure_n of_o all_o good_a thing_n and_o heavenly_a blessing_n to_o be_v find_v and_o without_o the_o which_o there_o be_v nothing_o now_o in_o that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o say_v my_o help_n come_v from_o the_o lord_n but_o add_v moreover_o which_o make_v heaven_n &_o earth_n he_o reprove_v &_o condemn_v all_o other_o help_n which_o man_n seek_v &_o procure_v unto_o themselves_o beside_o god_n with_o false_a trust_n &_o affiance_n in_o the_o same_o as_o idol_n of_o their_o own_o imagination_n so_o be_v mammon_n a_o god_n also_o that_o be_v to_o say_v be_v worship_v of_o man_n as_o a_o god_n &_o help_v they_o also_o sometime_o but_o in_o penury_n of_o food_n &_o victual_n what_o succour_n can_v he_o bring_v no_o man_n can_v satisfy_v his_o hungry_a belly_n with_o gold_n and_o silver_n likewise_o in_o drought_n and_o barrenness_n of_o the_o earth_n what_o can_v he_o help_v what_o good_a can_v he_o do_v in_o disease_n &_o infirmity_n of_o the_o body_n if_o then_o in_o these_o corporal_a malady_n he_o can_v not_o help_v what_o can_v he_o do_v when_o the_o conscience_n be_v trouble_v with_o sin_n &_o the_o horror_n of_o death_n it_o be_v therefore_o but_o a_o false_a pleasure_n and_o delight_n that_o mammon_n bring_v which_o be_v but_o only_o to_o satisfy_v &_o please_v the_o eye_n as_o a_o picture_n or_o paint_a table_n against_o these_o help_n therefore_o &_o such_o like_a which_o the_o world_n seek_v after_o the_o prophet_n set_v the_o lord_n himself_o who_o make_v not_o only_a gold_n &_o silver_n not_o only_a food_n &_o sustenance_n heaven_n and_o earth_n that_o be_v to_o say_v angel_n man_n and_o the_o whole_a world_n but_o beside_o these_o give_v remission_n of_o sin_n faith_n righteousness_n joy_n &_o peace_n of_o heart_n with_o everlasting_a life_n he_o be_v say_v the_o prophet_n my_o almighty_a and_o sure_a help_n of_o who_o i_o can_v not_o doubt_v that_o he_o will_v ever_o fail_v i_o the_o twinkle_n of_o a_o eye_n to_o this_o lord_n i_o fly_v for_o aid_n &_o succour_n who_o not_o only_o in_o this_o life_n can_v and_o do_v give_v health_n &_o welfare_n for_o a_o few_o year_n with_o security_n of_o conscience_n &_o contempt_n of_o death_n &_o all_o the_o world_n do_v glory_n in_o their_o money_n if_o they_o vaunt_v of_o their_o wealth_n and_o riches_n why_o shall_v not_o we_o also_o glory_v in_o the_o trust_n &_o confidence_n we_o have_v in_o god_n the_o more_o to_o esteem_v they_o when_o we_o have_v they_o and_o to_o be_v the_o more_o thankful_a to_o god_n for_o the_o same_o yet_o must_v we_o learn_v sure_o to_o trust_v and_o undoubted_o believe_v that_o they_o will_v come_v verse_n 3._o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v for_o he_o that_o keep_v israel_n will_v not_o slumber_v this_o verse_n depend_v upon_o those_o that_o go_v before_o for_o the_o prophet_n because_o he_o begin_v with_o a_o exhortation_n to_o faith_n now_o go_v about_o as_o it_o be_v with_o promise_n lord_n to_o move_v and_o exhort_v the_o faithful_a to_o hold_v fast_o this_o confidence_n &_o trust_n in_o the_o help_n &_o succour_v of_o the_o lord_n and_o very_o necessary_a it_o be_v for_o we_o to_o exhort_v and_o stir_v up_o not_o exhortation_n to_o perseverance_n and_o patience_n for_o this_o experience_n of_o trouble_n and_o affliction_n must_v be_v join_v with_o doctrine_n &_o exhâ—â—â—â—tion_n for_o our_o sight_n be_v so_o dim_a that_o we_o can_v not_o see_v these_o inviâ—â—â—â—â—_n thing_n and_o the_o end_n of_o affliction_n therefore_o the_o flesh_n ever_o sâ—â—keth_v mean_n how_o it_o may_v be_v deliver_v and_o when_o it_o can_v see_v nonâ—â—as_v the_o carnal_a eye_n can_v never_o see_v god_n marvellous_a help_n &_o deliverance_n then_o be_v it_o miserable_o vex_v and_o torment_v and_o can_v find_v noâ—est_v nor_o quietness_n we_o have_v need_v therefore_o of_o exhortation_n out_o 〈◊〉_d the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o this_o streatnes_n of_o our_o heart_n may_v be_v dilate_v and_o enlarge_v which_o he_o alone_o can_v do_v that_o see_v the_o end_n of_o our_o tentation_n we_o must_v hear_v what_o his_o word_n say_v and_o not_o what_o our_o own_o heart_n say_v which_o only_o see_v and_o fele_v the_o beginning_n of_o tentation_n and_o affliction_n but_o the_o end_n thereof_o it_o can_v not_o see_v therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n here_o amplify_v and_o enlarge_v the_o matter_n that_o the_o exhortation_n may_v be_v the_o more_o effectual_a and_o here_o be_v first_o to_o be_v note_v that_o if_o the_o contrary_n be_v not_o that_o be_v to_o say_v no_o tentation_n feel_v or_o peril_n to_o be_v fear_v then_o be_v this_o exhortation_n but_o in_o vain_a for_o if_o tentation_n shall_v have_v a_o end_n as_o soon_o as_o it_o begin_v or_o if_o as_o soon_o as_o we_o feel_v any_o lack_n god_n shall_v give_v we_o that_o we_o desire_v wherefore_o then_o shall_v god_n promise_v any_o thing_n therefore_o neither_o be_v doctrine_n necessary_a in_o those_o thing_n that_o we_o know_v before_o neither_o exhortation_n when_o we_o be_v out_o of_o danger_n and_o feel_v no_o tentation_n therefore_o where_o the_o prophet_n say_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v he_o plain_o show_v what_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o afflict_a for_o when_o they_o feel_v themselves_o to_o be_v in_o danger_n through_o the_o grievousness_n of_o tentation_n their_o heart_n be_v heavy_a and_o will_v live_v a_o godly_a life_n in_o christ_n jesus_n shall_v suffer_v trouble_n and_o affliction_n it_o set_v forth_o christ_n for_o a_o ensample_n who_o by_o the_o cross_n enter_v into_o glory_n it_o tell_v we_o that_o we_o must_v be_v make_v like_o unto_o his_o image_n that_o be_v we_o must_v suffer_v with_o he_o if_o we_o look_v to_o be_v glorify_v with_o he_o then_o we_o see_v that_o but_o mere_a nothing_o therefore_o let_v we_o lift_v up_o our_o mind_n to_o these_o heavenly_a riches_n and_o let_v we_o learn_v right_o to_o discern_v between_o the_o cross_n in_o respect_n of_o itself_o that_o be_v of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n and_o his_o rich_a promise_n which_o if_o we_o consider_v as_o it_o be_v in_o itself_o and_o without_o christ_n what_o trouble_n be_v so_o small_a that_o shall_v not_o utter_o overthrow_v we_o and_o so_o shall_v every_o trouble_v be_v unto_o we_o intolerable_a but_o if_o we_o behold_v the_o same_o in_o respect_n of_o god_n with_o the_o eye_n of_o faith_n though_o our_o affliction_n and_o calamity_n seem_v never_o so_o great_a and_o grievous_a yet_o the_o supper_n abundant_a mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n swallow_v they_o up_o all_o who_o albeit_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v afflict_v for_o a_o little_a season_n yet_o shall_v the_o entâ—e_fw-fr be_v full_a of_o joy_n and_o comfort_n so_o say_v the_o prophet_n isaiah_n for_o a_o little_a while_n have_v i_o forsake_v thou_o this_o momentane_z and_o short_a time_n to_o the_o flesh_n seem_v a_o eternity_n the_o sea_n which_o so_o terrify_v we_o that_o heaven_n and_o earth_n be_v to_o little_a for_o we_o yea_o the_o whole_a creature_n be_v to_o we_o a_o very_a hell_n this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o flesh_n which_o satan_n moreover_o so_o inspire_v and_o bewitch_v that_o it_o see_v not_o god_n but_o rather_o as_o it_o judge_v some_o great_a and_o horrible_a mischief_n not_o life_n but_o death_n and_o destruction_n but_o this_o be_v no_o judgement_n but_o rather_o a_o delusion_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o devil_n against_o the_o which_o we_o must_v fight_v yea_o and_o believe_v that_o even_o in_o our_o destruction_n as_o to_o we_o it_o seem_v god_n be_v present_a with_o we_o and_o in_o our_o death_n christ_n our_o king_n live_v in_o who_o sight_n our_o tribulation_n and_o affliction_n yea_o and_o death_n itself_o be_v altogether_o as_o you_o will_v say_v but_o one_o nothing_o and_o if_o we_o compare_v they_o unto_o god_n by_o the_o judgement_n of_o faith_n we_o shall_v feel_v they_o so_o to_o be_v in_o deed_n but_o who_o have_v sufficient_o learn_v thus_o to_o do_v somewhat_o we_o may_v say_v christian_n and_o teach_v other_o after_o a_o sort_n but_o use_v and_o experience_n with_o inward_a practice_n and_o feel_v be_v that_o which_o make_v a_o right_a divine_a and_o a_o true_a christian_a in_o deed_n so_o that_o he_o may_v be_v able_a bold_o to_o affirm_v and_o say_v with_o david_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o styppe_v that_o be_v to_o say_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v thou_o to_o be_v utter_o overthrow_v and_o perish_v but_o the_o flesh_n say_v the_o contrary_a because_o it_o feel_v not_o only_o thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o itself_o also_o to_o be_v tread_v under_o foot_n behold_v the_o son_n of_o god_n what_o he_o suffer_v behold_v john_n baptist_n the_o virgin_n mary_n the_o apostle_n the_o prophet_n what_o they_o suffer_v behold_v the_o church_n at_o this_o day_n what_o danger_n it_o be_v in_o what_o trouble_v and_o affliction_n it_o continual_o suffer_v and_o this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o the_o godly_a upon_o the_o experience_n whereof_o arise_v this_o proverb_n the_o more_o wicked_a the_o more_o happy_a and_o therefore_o the_o world_n fear_v and_o shun_v these_o danger_n can_v never_o abide_v the_o gospel_n and_o thus_o it_o appear_v to_o they_o not_o to_o be_v true_a that_o david_n say_v here_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o suffer_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o rather_o the_o contrary_a that_o he_o cause_v thy_o foot_n to_o slip_v albeit_o it_o do_v but_o seem_v so_o for_o he_o do_v not_o so_o in_o deed_n and_o that_o to_o the_o flesh_n only_o but_o contrariwise_o to_o the_o spirit_n and_o faith_n it_o be_v exaltation_n and_o glory_n before_o god_n they_o judge_v that_o death_n which_o be_v suffer_v for_o the_o confession_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o be_v a_o beginning_n of_o a_o better_a and_o eternal_a life_n ignominy_n shame_n and_o contempt_n of_o the_o world_n they_o count_v inestimable_a glory_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o god._n faith_n this_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o faith_n albeit_o the_o flesh_n think_v otherwise_o but_o we_o may_v not_o judge_v after_o the_o flesh_n for_o if_o we_o do_v what_o need_v then_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o word_n what_o need_v exhortation_n what_o need_v the_o promise_n therefore_o we_o must_v turn_v the_o evil_a into_o good_a and_o where_o the_o flesh_n conclude_v that_o it_o be_v continual_o tread_v under_o foot_n there_o faith_n must_v confess_v and_o say_v that_o by_o the_o cross_n and_o by_o these_o affliction_n we_o be_v make_v like_o to_o the_o son_n of_o god_n &_o fashion_v like_o unto_o christ_n for_o these_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v believe_v as_o invisible_a and_o also_o insensible_a and_o not_o as_o thing_n to_o be_v see_v and_o feel_v but_o such_o as_o will_v not_o believe_v but_o follow_v their_o own_o sense_n and_o feel_v do_v rather_o choose_v the_o glory_n &_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n which_o so_o little_a while_n endure_v and_o so_o sudden_o vanish_v away_o but_o how_o miserable_a shall_v their_o condition_n be_v when_o after_o these_o transitory_a momentane_z and_o vain_a pleasure_n they_o shall_v find_v and_o feel_v nothing_o but_o anguish_n &_o torment_n with_o weep_v &_o wail_v for_o ever_o &_o without_o end_n how_o much_o better_o have_v it_o be_v for_o they_o to_o have_v suffer_v for_o a_o while_n with_o lazarus_n both_o sickness_n and_o poverty_n then_o for_o a_o little_a season_n to_o flourish_v with_o the_o rich_a glutton_n in_o wealth_n and_o prosperity_n &_o with_o he_o to_o be_v torment_v in_o everlasting_a fire_n this_o doctrine_n therefore_o pertain_v to_o those_o which_o desire_v to_o believe_v &_o not_o to_o feel_v that_o they_o may_v discern_v between_o god_n &_o their_o affliction_n not_o fix_v their_o eye_n upon_o the_o present_a calamity_n but_o look_v up_o to_o the_o invisible_a help_n promise_v in_o the_o word_n for_o those_o trouble_n &_o danger_n where_o unto_o the_o faithful_a be_v subject_a do_v in_o deed_n cause_v the_o foot_n to_o slip_v but_o yet_o so_o that_o faith_n will_v not_o suffer_v they_o to_o fall_v but_o make_v they_o able_a to_o pass_v over_o those_o rock_n be_v they_o never_o so_o dangerous_a &_o to_o compare_v their_o momentane_z affliction_n with_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v infinite_a and_o everlasting_a as_o to_o god_n himself_o his_o power_n his_o grace_n and_o final_o eternal_a life_n which_o god_n have_v promise_v in_o christ_n to_o they_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o to_o know_v these_o thing_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o comfort_n both_o ourselves_o
flesh_n although_o they_o be_v compass_v about_o with_o such_o high_a and_o mighty_a mountain_n as_o touch_v the_o spirit_n as_o satan_n can_v never_o surmount_v yet_o touch_v the_o flesh_n and_o the_o old_a man_n they_o lie_v open_a on_o every_o side_n to_o the_o dart_n of_o satan_n and_o of_o the_o world_n for_o god_n by_o these_o mean_n will_v afflict_v and_o exercise_v the_o flesh_n that_o sin_n &_o the_o foolishness_n of_o the_o flesh_n may_v be_v mortify_v in_o they_o and_o that_o spiritual_a wisdom_n and_o the_o inward_a man_n may_v increase_v this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o we_o be_v according_a to_o the_o flesh_n as_o a_o break_a hedge_n and_o as_o a_o city_n who_o wall_n be_v cast_v down_o and_o so_o lie_v open_a to_o the_o enemy_n on_o every_o side_n wherefore_o there_o be_v no_o sort_n of_o man_n so_o vile_a and_o abject_a which_o do_v not_o think_v that_o they_o may_v do_v what_o they_o listen_v against_o the_o true_a professor_n of_o the_o gospel_n hereof_o come_v such_o intolerable_a injury_n horrible_a blasphemy_n cruel_a torment_n and_o bloody_a slaughter_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n for_o the_o flesh_n have_v no_o wall_n no_o munition_n to_o defend_v it_o but_o the_o spirit_n therefore_o the_o flesh_n be_v in_o danger_n to_o all_o storm_n and_o tempest_n break_a &_o tread_v down_o of_o the_o wicked_a as_o isaiah_n say_v chap._n 51._o which_o have_v say_v unto_o thy_o soul_n bow_v down_o that_o we_o may_v go_v over_o thou_o have_v lay_v thy_o body_n as_o the_o ground_n and_o as_o the_o street_n to_o they_o that_o go_v over_o these_o affliction_n we_o must_v needs_o suffer_v and_o by_o patience_n overcome_v they_o &_o withal_o we_o must_v beware_v that_o by_o these_o outward_a affliction_n the_o inward_a man_n be_v not_o weaken_v or_o overcome_v rest_v in_o this_o assure_a hope_n and_o trust_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v never_o forsake_v we_o but_o that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o bosom_n of_o the_o father_n and_o be_v close_v within_o most_o sure_a and_o strong_a hold_n so_o that_o now_o although_o our_o good_n our_o wife_n our_o child_n yea_o and_o our_o life_n also_o be_v take_v from_o we_o yet_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v spoil_v of_o our_o christ_n by_o who_o we_o be_v so_o sure_o defend_v that_o in_o the_o mid_n of_o all_o our_o tentation_n he_o will_v make_v away_o for_o we_o to_o escape_v or_o else_o geve_v we_o strength_n to_o bear_v they_o thus_o we_o see_v what_o consolation_n the_o holy_a ghost_n set_v forth_o unto_o they_o which_o believe_v the_o word_n for_o unto_o such_o as_o look_v for_o a_o better_a life_n than_o this_o all_o thing_n be_v here_o full_a of_o calamity_n and_o misery_n death_n follow_v death_n as_o paul_n say_v and_o we_o continual_o die_v one_o tentation_n follow_v a_o other_o until_o at_o the_o length_n by_o the_o death_n of_o the_o flesh_n all_o misery_n shall_v cease_v and_o have_v a_o end_n this_o verse_n therefore_o make_v much_o for_o our_o comfort_n admonish_v we_o that_o we_o must_v suffer_v many_o trouble_n yet_o so_o that_o at_o the_o length_n we_o shall_v be_v safe_a and_o set_v at_o liberty_n from_o they_o all_o though_o not_o in_o this_o life_n yet_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v and_o in_o eternal_a life_n and_o why_o shall_v we_o not_o thus_o bold_o promise_v unto_o ourselves_o remain_v under_o this_o diligent_a custody_n of_o the_o angel_n yea_o of_o the_o lord_n himself_o which_o be_v always_o round_o about_o his_o people_n but_o here_o as_o before_o i_o say_v we_o have_v need_n of_o faith_n that_o we_o may_v judge_v herein_o not_o according_a to_o our_o present_a trouble_n and_o tentation_n but_o according_a to_o the_o word_n of_o promise_n and_o what_o shall_v we_o need_v any_o promise_n if_o there_o be_v no_o tentation_n which_o tentation_n whether_o they_o be_v within_o in_o the_o spirit_n or_o without_o in_o the_o flesh_n the_o time_n shall_v come_v when_o we_o through_o christ_n shall_v have_v full_a victory_n hereof_o as_o this_o verse_n full_a of_o sweet_a consolation_n do_v promise_n unto_o us._n notwithstanding_o this_o promise_n seem_v incredible_a both_o to_o we_o which_o suffer_v and_o also_o to_o they_o which_o persecute_v and_o afflict_v we_o for_o if_o we_o behold_v the_o same_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n what_o can_v be_v more_o false_a yea_o the_o contrary_n seem_v to_o be_v most_o true_a behold_v our_o saviour_n christ_n be_v he_o not_o so_o forsake_v hang_v upon_o the_o cross_n that_o the_o rod_n or_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a rest_v upon_o he_o do_v it_o not_o rest_v likewise_o upon_o the_o prophet_n the_o apostle_n and_o other_o holy_a martyr_n this_o matter_n then_o if_o we_o consider_v it_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n have_v a_o other_o meaning_n then_o the_o word_n do_v import_v for_o they_o promise_v that_o the_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v have_v no_o power_n over_o the_o godly_a and_o yet_o all_o story_n and_o example_n do_v testify_v the_o contrary_n therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v we_o back_o to_o the_o purpose_n &_o counsel_n of_o god_n reveil_v in_o his_o word_n and_o command_v we_o to_o weigh_v and_o consider_v not_o what_o we_o suffer_v and_o with_o our_o outward_a eye_n behold_v but_o what_o be_v decree_v with_o the_o lord_n in_o heaven_n and_o he_o that_o can_v so_o sequester_n himself_o from_o the_o behold_n of_o his_o affliction_n and_o tentation_n and_o yield_v himself_o whole_o over_o to_o the_o will_n of_o god_n &_o there_o rest_n be_v a_o right_n divine_a yea_o he_o that_o be_v ignorant_a hereof_o in_o true_a divinity_n know_v nothing_o at_o al._n for_o what_o know_v he_o which_o be_v ignorant_a that_o god_n be_v such_o a_o god_n as_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o godly_a to_o be_v oppress_v of_o the_o wicked_a for_o see_v he_o have_v say_v i_o be_o the_o lord_n thy_o god_n he_o will_v never_o suffer_v that_o which_o be_v his_o own_o to_o be_v wrest_v either_o by_o the_o world_n or_o by_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n out_o of_o his_o hand_n if_o he_o then_o abide_v and_o continue_v they_o shall_v also_o continue_v for_o ever_o which_o be_v he_o thus_o to_o believe_v and_o thus_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o thing_n invisible_a be_v true_a divinity_n and_o true_a spiritual_a wisdom_n in_o deed_n whereupon_o we_o may_v ground_v this_o proposition_n out_o of_o the_o invisible_a counsel_n of_o god_n god_n hate_v the_o wicked_a &_o love_v the_o just_a ergo_fw-la he_o will_v damn_v and_o destroy_v the_o wicked_a and_o will_v deliver_v and_o save_v the_o just_a and_o here_o we_o see_v that_o which_o be_v the_o chief_a thing_n in_o all_o the_o psalm_n and_o prophet_n to_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o first_o precept_n i_o be_o the_o lord_n thy_o god._n now_o have_v we_o to_o learn_v how_o we_o may_v apply_v this_o verse_n right_o and_o to_o our_o comfort_n for_o true_a divinity_n consist_v in_o use_n and_o practice_v we_o be_v vex_v on_o every_o side_n with_o cruel_a bishop_n wicked_a prince_n and_o other_o which_o hate_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o the_o doctrine_n which_o we_o profess_v but_o these_o be_v very_a trifle_n if_o you_o compare_v they_o with_o those_o vexation_n which_o satan_n sin_n and_o our_o own_o infirmity_n raise_v up_o in_o our_o conscience_n we_o must_v learn_v therefore_o thus_o to_o judge_v of_o all_o these_o thing_n that_o they_o be_v the_o rod_n or_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o to_o set_v the_o lord_n against_o they_o reveal_v his_o will_n here_o in_o his_o word_n and_o pronounce_v that_o he_o will_v not_o suffer_v the_o sceptre_n of_o the_o wicked_a to_o rest_v upon_o the_o godly_a see_v then_o the_o same_o prince_n promise_v thus_o much_o unto_o we_o which_o have_v all_o thing_n in_o his_o hand_n what_o can_v we_o require_v more_o for_o the_o will_n of_o god_n be_v certain_a that_o though_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v afflict_v yet_o will_v he_o not_o see_v we_o tread_v under_o foot_n or_o perish_v thus_o must_v we_o apply_v these_o sweet_a consolation_n what_o the_o rod_n signify_v in_o the_o scripture_n it_o be_v well_o know_v children_n when_o they_o be_v young_a be_v correct_v with_o a_o rod_n &_o when_o they_o wax_v big_a with_o a_o wand_n or_o a_o cudgel_n and_o if_o they_o will_v not_o so_o amend_v then_o follow_v the_o iron_n rod_n hereof_o it_o come_v that_o the_o rod_n signify_v all_o power_n and_o rule_v which_o be_v for_o the_o amendment_n and_o correction_n of_o such_o as_o do_v offend_v so_o be_v it_o take_v in_o the_o 110._o psalm_n the_o lord_n shall_v send_v forth_o the_o rod_n of_o thy_o power_n out_o of_o zion_n that_o be_v to_o say_v thy_o kingdom_n for_o there_o he_o signify_v such_o a_o rod_n whereby_o kingdom_n and_o people_n be_v govern_v on_o this_o wise_a the_o
holy_a ghost_n permit_v here_o to_o the_o wicked_a dominion_n and_o tyranny_n over_o the_o godly_a which_o they_o be_v compel_v to_o suffer_v like_a as_o we_o be_v compel_v not_o only_o to_o see_v but_o also_o to_o suffer_v the_o tyranny_n of_o antichrist_n and_o the_o power_n of_o his_o kingdom_n persecute_v destroy_v &_o murder_v the_o christian_n and_o rage_v against_o they_o with_o all_o kind_n of_o tyranny_n yea_o we_o be_v compel_v moreover_o to_o suffer_v the_o tyranny_n of_o satan_n vex_v and_o terrify_v my_o heart_n and_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o brethren_n which_o believe_v in_o christ_n this_o dominion_n or_o tyranny_n the_o holy_a ghost_n call_v the_o rod_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o comfort_v we_o that_o as_o the_o lord_n live_v their_o tyranny_n shall_v fall_v and_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o babylonian_n they_o have_v a_o promise_n that_o after_o seventy_o year_n they_o shall_v return_v again_o to_o jerusalem_n because_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v bring_v into_o with_o the_o performance_n and_o execution_n of_o the_o same_o many_o will_v say_v there_o be_v not_o god_n therefore_o god_n must_v needs_o show_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o god_n not_o only_o in_o of_o the_o church_n like_v as_o grass_n be_v no_o corn_n for_o it_o wither_v away_o before_o it_o can_v bring_v forth_o fruit_n for_o this_o be_v the_o chief_a argument_n wherewith_o they_o fight_v against_o we_o that_o for_o this_o glorious_a show_n whereof_o i_o speak_v they_o usurp_v and_o challenge_v to_o themselves_o the_o title_n of_o the_o church_n but_o we_o be_v command_v to_o take_v heed_n that_o we_o be_v not_o deceive_v by_o outward_a show_n yea_o and_o we_o be_v admonish_v also_o that_o such_o show_n be_v often_o time_n occasion_n of_o great_a calamity_n beware_v say_v our_o saviour_n christ_n of_o false_a prophet_n which_o come_v to_o you_o in_o sheep_n clothing_n also_o by_o their_o fruit_n you_o shall_v know_v they_o whereas_o then_o they_o challenge_v unto_o themselves_o the_o name_n of_o the_o church_n &_o for_o a_o goodly_a show_n which_o the_o grass_n also_o that_o grow_v on_o the_o house_n top_n have_v as_o well_o as_o they_o will_v be_v count_v good_a corn_n this_o will_v not_o we_o grant_v they_o for_o if_o they_o be_v good_a corn_n let_v they_o fill_v the_o hand_n of_o the_o mower_n but_o this_o do_v they_o not_o they_o be_v unprofitable_a grass_n yea_o worse_o than_o grass_n for_o in_o that_o filthiness_n of_o their_o wicked_a lust_n &_o fleshly_a pleasure_n wherewith_o they_o be_v horrible_o pollute_v &_o that_o cruelty_n which_o they_o exercise_v against_o the_o true_a church_n they_o retain_v not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o outward_a show_n which_o they_o pretend_v wherefore_o since_o there_o be_v nothing_o to_o be_v find_v in_o our_o adversary_n but_o a_o naked_a and_o a_o hypocritical_a show_n and_o the_o same_o also_o miserable_o and_o many_o way_n deform_v and_o deface_v since_o i_o say_v there_o be_v nothing_o else_o in_o they_o but_o mere_a hypocrisy_n we_o judge_v &_o denounce_v they_o not_o to_o be_v the_o church_n of_o christ_n but_o of_o satan_n wherefore_o they_o be_v prepare_v as_o chaff_n and_o stubble_n to_o the_o fire_n although_o under_o a_o show_n and_o colour_n of_o the_o church_n they_o afflict_v and_o persecute_v we_o never_o so_o much_o verse_n 8._o neither_o they_o which_o go_v by_o say_v we_o bless_v you_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n this_o also_o commend_v and_o set_v forth_o unto_o we_o the_o similitude_n of_o the_o grass_n for_o true_a corn_n have_v this_o commendation_n that_o it_o be_v the_o blessing_n of_o god_n they_o therefore_o which_o see_v it_o grow_v do_v wish_v that_o god_n will_v bless_v and_o prosper_v it_o this_o say_v david_n shall_v not_o be_v say_v of_o that_o grass_n that_o be_v to_o say_v of_o the_o tyrant_n and_o the_o adversary_n of_o the_o church_n but_o rather_o they_o shall_v be_v curse_v of_o all_o man_n yea_o the_o malediction_n both_o of_o god_n and_o man_n shall_v be_v heap_v upon_o they_o like_a as_o it_o have_v also_o happen_v to_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n which_o before_o our_o doctrine_n and_o preach_v most_o glorious_o flourish_v but_o now_o that_o the_o gospel_n have_v pluck_v away_o her_o visor_n and_o show_v that_o she_o be_v without_o fruit_n all_o her_o curse_a hypocrisy_n be_v bewray_v and_o her_o memory_n be_v perish_v from_o among_o the_o godly_a thus_o the_o prophet_n comfort_v the_o faithful_a and_o show_v that_o the_o wicked_a what_o glorious_a brag_n and_o pretence_n so_o ever_o they_o make_v be_v in_o deed_n
