sin_n which_o the_o law_n can_v not_o enable_v they_o to_o get_v quit_v of_o and_o have_v begin_v to_o serve_v and_o obey_v he_o chap._n 7._o ver_fw-la 25._o and_o ch_n 8._o v._n 1_o 2_o 3_o 4_o etc._n etc._n this_o be_v the_o argument_n which_o the_o apostle_n pursue_v and_o the_o way_n wherein_o he_o manage_n it_o as_o every_o man_n will_v perceive_v who_o will_v be_v at_o the_o pain_n to_o peruse_v those_o three_o chapter_n as_o i_o have_v point_v they_o out_o to_o he_o so_o that_o as_o for_o all_o the_o ineffective_a strive_v and_o sin_v with_o regret_n which_o be_v so_o often_o mention_v in_o the_o seven_o chapter_n it_o belong_v not_o to_o the_o apostle_n himself_o nor_o to_o any_o other_o regenerate_a christian_a but_o only_o to_o a_o middling_a sinner_n among_o the_o jew_n who_o be_v change_v something_o by_o moses_n law_n but_o not_o enough_o and_o who_o be_v in_o a_o way_n to_o become_v a_o child_n of_o grace_n although_o for_o the_o present_a he_o be_v a_o son_n of_o death_n and_o hell_n this_o i_o say_v will_v appear_v to_o be_v the_o person_n who_o saint_n to_o paul_n set_v forth_o in_o that_o so_o much_o mistake_v chapter_n to_o any_o man_n who_o shall_v fair_o consider_v those_o three_o chapter_n observe_v that_o help_n for_o the_o understanding_n of_o they_o which_o i_o have_v already_o offer_v but_o because_o this_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o high_a importance_n and_o i_o will_v not_o seem_v to_o shun_v any_o pain_n which_o may_v in_o probability_n make_v for_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o any_o though_o but_o one_o single_a man_n concern_v this_o necessity_n of_o a_o active_a obedience_n i_o will_v here_o set_v down_o what_o i_o very_o take_v to_o be_v the_o sense_n of_o those_o three_o chapter_n or_o so_o much_o at_o least_o of_o the_o six_o and_o eight_o as_o make_v for_o the_o understanding_n of_o the_o seven_o in_o this_o ensue_a paraphrase_n which_o i_o hope_v will_v not_o be_v altogether_o unuseful_a for_o common_a reader_n because_o they_o will_v thereby_o see_v what_o as_o i_o take_v it_o be_v the_o apostle_n meaning_n in_o full_a and_o at_o length_n here_o whenas_o they_o read_v it_o more_o contract_v and_o involve_v in_o their_o bibles_n and_o to_o take_v our_o rise_n from_o thence_o that_o be_v sufficient_a for_o our_o present_a purpose_n at_o the_o fourteen_o verse_n of_o the_o six_o chapter_n thus_o the_o apostle_n discourse_n 14._o hereafter_o now_o you_o be_v not_o in_o subjection_n under_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n but_o under_o the_o grace_n and_o gospel_n of_o christ._n but_o what_o then_o shall_v we_o serve_v sin_n 15._o because_o we_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n which_o condemn_v though_o it_o can_v conquer_v it_o but_o under_o grace_n which_o pardon_v it_o god_n forbid_v that_o ever_o both_o these_o great_a defect_n of_o the_o mosaic_a law_n which_o render_v it_o so_o unable_a to_o work_v this_o entire_a reformation_n and_o obedience_n be_v full_o supply_v for_o in_o every_o page_n of_o christ_n gospel_n what_o be_v so_o legible_a as_o the_o promise_n of_o eternal_a life_n the_o joy_n of_o heaven_n be_v as_o much_o insist_v on_o by_o christ_n as_o the_o delight_n of_o canaan_n be_v by_o moses_n and_o then_o as_o for_o the_o other_o promise_n viz._n that_o of_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v now_o as_o plain_o reveal_v as_o word_n can_v make_v it_o for_o we_o need_v not_o to_o guess_v at_o it_o by_o sign_n or_o to_o presume_v it_o from_o probability_n or_o to_o believe_v it_o upon_o syllogism_n and_o consequence_n but_o christ_n have_v speak_v out_o so_o as_o to_o be_v understand_v by_o every_o capacity_n god_n will_v give_v the_o holy_a spirit_n to_o they_o that_o ask_v he_o luke_n 11.13_o now_o because_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n labour_v under_o these_o two_o great_a defect_n which_o be_v happy_o supply_v by_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n by_o reason_n whereof_o it_o be_v very_o unable_a to_o effect_v that_o reformation_n of_o the_o world_n which_o be_v shall_v and_o to_o lay_v this_o thank_v upon_o sin_n and_o to_o check_v it_o in_o some_o measure_n till_o such_o time_n as_o the_o gospel_n shall_v be_v more_o clear_o reveal_v to_o subdue_v it_o perfect_o be_v that_o very_a end_n for_o which_o the_o law_n be_v at_o first_o give_v and_o whereto_o so_o long_o as_o it_o be_v in_o force_n it_o serve_v wherefore_o say_v he_o serve_v the_o law_n the_o 5_o the_o vers_n of_o the_o 8_o the_o this_o weakness_n and_o inability_n of_o the_o law_n be_v that_o still_o which_o be_v every_o where_o endeavour_v to_o be_v make_v out_o and_o which_o and_o strength_n as_o well_o as_o god_n and_o our_o duty_n all_o our_o power_n not_o only_o may_v be_v exercise_v about_o they_o but_o they_o needs_o must_v for_o god_n himself_o have_v so_o ordain_v undissembledness_n of_o our_o faculty_n so_o as_o the_o phrase_n with_o all_o the_o heart_n signify_v the_o same_o as_o in_o simplicity_n and_o honesty_n without_o guile_n or_o a_o double_a heart_n for_o a_o dissemble_a hypocritical_a man_n have_v one_o heart_n in_o show_n and_o another_o in_o reality_n his_o heart_n be_v not_o one_o entire_a thing_n but_o double_a and_o divide_v he_o appear_v to_o will_n what_o indeed_o he_o do_v not_o will_n and_o to_o desire_v what_o in_o truth_n he_o do_v not_o desire_n so_o that_o his_o whole_a heart_n do_v not_o go_v together_o that_o which_o he_o outward_o profess_v be_v one_o but_o that_o which_o he_o inward_o intend_v another_o and_o this_o simplicity_n and_o sincere_a honesty_n of_o intention_n be_v express_v in_o the_o course_n of_o our_o reconciliation_n he_o come_v to_o find_v out_o a_o remedy_n for_o all_o our_o evil_n and_o to_o prescribe_v we_o a_o way_n of_o recover_v ourselves_o when_o we_o have_v fall_v by_o any_o sin_n so_o that_o although_o none_o of_o we_o all_o have_v live_v free_a from_o it_o yet_o in_o the_o event_n sin_n shall_v not_o be_v our_o ruin_n and_o that_o remedy_n which_o god_n have_v provide_v we_o for_o so_o high_o concern_v they_o not_o to_o be_v mistake_v they_o can_v never_o be_v over-jealous_a of_o their_o own_o heart_n or_o too_o cautious_a lest_o after_o all_o those_o insupportable_a punishment_n of_o sin_n shall_v fall_v to_o be_v their_o own_o portion_n and_o this_o they_o do_v especial_o if_o in_o any_o material_a point_n whereupon_o as_o to_o the_o sentence_n of_o life_n or_o death_n the_o gospel_n lay_v a_o great_a stress_n they_o be_v ignorant_a and_o erroneous_a for_o there_o be_v no_o terror_n in_o the_o world_n that_o be_v comparable_a to_o those_o of_o religion_n
