and_o therefore_o david_n have_v break_v out_o into_o a_o passionate_a and_o pithy_a commendation_n of_o the_o unity_n of_o brethren_n behold_v how_o good_a and_o pleasant_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v strive_v now_o i_o beseech_v you_o my_o belove_a let_v we_o set_v ourselves_o to_o this_o business_n there_o be_v never_o great_a need_v they_o now_o when_o god_n have_v suffer_v such_o a_o spirit_n of_o division_n to_o possess_v his_o own_o people_n and_o when_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n mystical_a of_o christ_n be_v of_o so_o many_o mind_n and_o draw_v so_o many_o way_n and_o have_v sometime_o such_o vehement_a and_o hot_a contention_n and_o dispute_n among_o themselves_o so_o that_o the_o church_n have_v never_o great_a reason_n to_o cry_v out_o as_o rebecca_n sometime_o do_v when_o she_o have_v party_n in_o her_o womb_n if_o it_o be_v so_o why_o be_o i_o thus_o and_o therefore_o we_o have_v need_v to_o put_v some_o spirit_n into_o this_o persuasion_n and_o you_o have_v need_v to_o put_v some_o spirit_n into_o your_o endeavour_n and_o if_o the_o lord_n will_v put_v his_o spirit_n of_o unity_n and_o peace_n into_o we_o it_o may_v subdue_v and_o overcome_v the_o spirit_n of_o division_n which_o reign_v too_o much_o abroad_o in_o these_o time_n but_o you_o will_v ask_v i_o how_o may_v we_o attain_v this_o and_o what_o be_v we_o to_o do_v that_o we_o may_v come_v to_o be_v at_o near_a unity_n among_o ourselves_o though_o it_o be_v very_o difficult_a as_o you_o have_v hear_v it_o may_v be_v compass_v notwithstanding_o by_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o lord_n upon_o the_o use_n of_o these_o direction_n you_o must_v endeavour_v to_o the_o utmost_a of_o your_o power_n to_o mortify_v those_o lust_n and_o those_o corruption_n that_o incline_v you_o to_o dissension_n i_o show_v you_o former_o in_o explication_n of_o the_o point_n that_o the_o cause_n of_o our_o division_n be_v within_o and_o not_o without_o we_o they_o do_v not_o come_v so_o much_o from_o outward_a provocation_n as_o inward_a corruption_n if_o there_o be_v no_o lust_n within_o there_o will_v be_v no_o war_n without_o as_o the_o apostle_n james_n insinuate_v and_o very_o if_o our_o corruption_n as_o pride_n and_o passion_n and_o self-love_n be_v thorough_o mortify_v within_o those_o outward_a provocation_n will_v never_o cause_v such_o woeful_a rent_n and_o such_o implacable_a contention_n as_o they_o do_v and_o therefore_o let_v we_o set_v ourselves_o effectual_o and_o thorough_o to_o subdue_v these_o lust_n of_o we_o though_o they_o be_v natural_o as_o dear_a and_o near_o as_o the_o member_n of_o our_o body_n let_v we_o pursue_v they_o to_o the_o very_a death_n as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n advise_v col._n 3.5_o mortify_v therefore_o your_o member_n which_o our_o corruption_n to_o favour_v they_o or_o to_o deal_v kind_o with_o they_o any_o way_n no_o let_v we_o dash_v this_o babylonish_n brood_n against_o the_o stone_n let_v we_o show_v they_o no_o mercy_n and_o when_o they_o be_v once_o destroy_v our_o difference_n and_o debate_n will_v end_v with_o they_o as_o we_o must_v mortify_v our_o carnal_a lust_n so_o we_o must_v chase_v away_o out_o of_o our_o heart_n our_o carnal_a reason_n that_o foment_n
to_o lose_v they_o for_o he_o be_v always_o answerable_a for_o they_o to_o the_o father_n now_o in_o this_o sense_n the_o father_n give_v man_n to_o the_o son_n especial_o in_o two_o respect_n 1._o in_o the_o first_o place_n he_o give_v man_n to_o he_o by_o election_n and_o this_o he_o do_v from_o everlasting_a he_o pick_v out_o such_o a_o certain_a company_n of_o man_n and_o bestow_v they_o upon_o christ_n in_o regard_n of_o the_o decree_n there_o be_v a_o people_n for_o thou_o say_v the_o father_n to_o the_o son_n so_o many_o thou_o shall_v have_v among_o the_o jew_n and_o if_o that_o be_v not_o sufficient_a thou_o shall_v have_v as_o many_o more_o as_o thou_o will_v ask_v among_o the_o gentile_n ask_v of_o i_o and_o i_o will_v give_v thou_o the_o heathen_a for_o thy_o he_o and_o in_o the_o second_o place_n how_o far_o he_o do_v 1._o he_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o suffer_v though_o christ_n be_v with_o his_o own_o disciple_n in_o the_o ship_n there_o may_v be_v a_o storm_n upon_o it_o and_o a_o very_a dangerous_a one_o they_o may_v be_v under_o heavy_a trial_n and_o affliction_n both_o within_o they_o and_o without_o they_o christ_n may_v expose_v they_o though_o they_o be_v his_o own_o to_o bitter_a persecution_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o to_o the_o great_a misery_n that_o humane_a cruelty_n can_v devise_v to_o inflict_v and_o when_o in_o the_o extremity_n of_o their_o distress_n they_o run_v cry_v to_o he_o as_o they_o be_v about_o to_o sink_v master_n save_o we_o we_o perish_v christ_n may_v seem_v to_o be_v asleep_a to_o wink_v at_o all_o this_o misery_n of_o they_o to_o make_v as_o if_o he_o know_v nothing_o and_o as_o if_o he_o do_v not_o dream_v of_o the_o intolerable_a pressure_n that_o lie_v upon_o his_o poor_a people_n 2._o he_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o sin_n and_o that_o most_o grievous_o sometime_o with_o hideous_a circumstantial_a aggravation_n how_o fearful_o have_v many_o fall_v who_o have_v indeed_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n we_o have_v very_o sad_a example_n of_o it_o in_o the_o scripture_n peter_n be_v one_o of_o they_o concern_v who_o our_o saviour_n tell_v his_o father_n in_o my_o text_n those_o who_o thou_o give_v i_o i_o keep_v and_o indeed_o he_o pray_v for_o peter_n in_o a_o special_a manner_n that_o his_o faith_n may_v never_o fail_v that_o it_o may_v not_o whole_o fail_v so_o as_o to_o be_v quite_o lose_v and_o utter_o extinct_a in_o he_o yet_o after_o this_o you_o know_v he_o fearful_o sin_v notwithstanding_o so_o as_o in_o some_o respect_n to_o deny_v the_o lord_n that_o buy_v he_o and_o that_o in_o a_o stupendous_a way_n with_o dreadful_a oath_n yea_o more_o than_o so_o with_o bitter_a curse_n and_o direful_a imprecation_n too_o what_o sin_n almost_o may_v not_o christ_n leave_v a_o person_n to_o commit_v who_o he_o have_v take_v into_o his_o tuition_n 3._o but_o now_o my_o brethren_n in_o the_o three_o place_n though_o christ_n do_v not_o keep_v they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o suffer_v and_o though_o he_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o sin_n who_o be_v bestow_v upon_o he_o by_o his_o father_n both_o by_o election_n and_o incorporation_n yet_o he_o do_v keep_v they_o that_o they_o do_v not_o perish_v all_o that_o be_v so_o bestow_v upon_o he_o he_o keep_v so_o that_o they_o be_v not_o lose_v as_o you_o like_o mount_n zion_n that_o can_v never_o be_v remove_v the_o wind_n may_v 〈◊〉_d drive_v away_o the_o chaff_n but_o all_o the_o storm_n of_o persecution_n shall_v never_o blow_v away_o one_o grain_n of_o good_a wheat_n so_o they_o may_v sin_v exceed_o but_o they_o can_v never_o sin_v to_o death_n any_o sin_n they_o may_v commit_v if_o you_o respect_v the_o matter_n of_o it_o for_o of_o that_o i_o speak_v not_o of_o the_o manner_n of_o commission_n but_o that_o against_o that_o holy_a ghost_n there_o be_v a_o sin_n to_o death_n say_v the_o apostle_n 1_o john_n 5.16_o to_o death_n not_o in_o the_o merit_n of_o it_o only_o for_o so_o be_v every_o sin_n to_o death_n if_o we_o look_v to_o the_o desert_n but_o to_o death_n in_o the_o event_n so_o that_o eternal_a death_n and_o condemnation_n be_v the_o infallible_a and_o unavoidable_a effect_n and_o issue_n of_o it_o and_o this_o christ_n sure_o keep_v his_o people_n from_o so_o that_o they_o never_o fall_v into_o it_o he_o give_v his_o sheep_n eternal_a life_n and_o they_o do_v never_o perish_v as_o himself_o speak_v john_n 10.28_o and_o though_o they_o be_v not_o keep_v in_o all_o respect_n to_o preservation_n either_o from_o sin_v or_o from_o suffer_v yet_o they_o be_v keep_v unto_o salvation_n
will_v preserve_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n either_o from_o the_o act_n and_o guilt_n or_o hurt_v of_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o they_o i_o shall_v a_o little_a touch_n upon_o they_o in_o their_o order_n in_o a_o qualify_a sense_n he_o keep_v they_o from_o the_o act_n of_o their_o corruption_n so_o that_o they_o act_v it_o not_o at_o all_o as_o thus_o sometime_o and_o in_o some_o certain_a thing_n he_o keep_v they_o and_o withhold_v they_o from_o or_o not_o at_o least_o as_o other_o man_n they_o also_o say_v the_o prophet_n david_n speak_v of_o the_o saint_n do_v no_o iniquity_n psal_n 119.3_o they_o sin_v not_o say_v the_o apostle_n 1_o john_n 3.6_o neither_o can_v they_o sin_v conceive_v it_o not_o so_o free_o and_o so_o remorseles_o as_o other_o for_o the_o seed_n remain_v in_o they_o the_o spirit_n lust_n against_o the_o flesh_n so_o that_o they_o can_v do_v the_o evil_a that_o they_o will_v at_o least_o not_o all_o the_o evil_a that_o they_o will_v gal._n 5.15_o god_n keep_v they_o by_o this_o mean_n from_o much_o evil_n which_o else_o they_o will_v fall_v into_o as_o to_o instance_n in_o particular_n he_o keep_v they_o whole_o from_o the_o great_a and_o unpardonable_a sin_n the_o sin_n against_o the_o holy_a ghost_n there_o be_v a_o sin_n to_o death_n say_v the_o apostle_n 1_o john_n 5.16_o to_o death_n not_o in_o the_o merit_n of_o it_o only_o for_o so_o be_v every_o sin_n to_o death_n if_o you_o look_v to_o the_o desert_n but_o in_o the_o issue_n and_o event_n and_o this_o god_n sure_o keep_v they_o from_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n so_o that_o they_o never_o fall_v into_o it_o 2._o he_o keep_v they_o usual_o from_o the_o grosser_n act_n of_o sin_n which_o the_o apostle_n call_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d the_o defilement_n and_o pollution_n of_o the_o world_n 2_o pet._n 2.20_o be_v the_o common_a mire_n and_o kennel_n in_o which_o the_o filthy_a swine_n of_o this_o world_n wallow_v and_o which_o be_v term_v by_o the_o apostle_n paul_n the_o work_n of_o the_o flesh_n which_o be_v manifest_a even_o to_o the_o the_o dim_a eye_n even_o to_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n itself_o chap._n 5.19_o such_o be_v adultery_n drunkenness_n perjury_n theft_n and_o such_o like_a now_o from_o these_o foul_a and_o gross_a corruption_n which_o cross_v the_o principle_n of_o common_a life_n and_o honesty_n in_o which_o the_o lewd_a and_o profane_v wallow_v god_n usual_o keep_v they_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n 3._o he_o keep_v they_o from_o commit_v any_o know_a sin_n resolve_o and_o with_o full_a consent_n of_o will_n indeed_o there_o may_v be_v a_o velleity_n a_o incomplete_a and_o a_o imperfect_a will_n to_o sin_n in_o those_o that_o belong_v to_o christ_n but_o a_o complete_a and_o perfect_a will_n there_o can_v be_v for_o flesh_n and_o spirit_n be_v interweave_v and_o commix_v in_o every_o faculty_n and_o consequent_o in_o the_o will_n the_o will_v so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v sanctify_v and_o renew_v can_v never_o give_v allowance_n to_o the_o act_n of_o sin_n and_o whereas_o wicked_a and_o ungodly_a man_n be_v total_o addict_v and_o universal_o devote_v to_o it_o they_o act_v it_o whole_o and_o with_o every_o part_n and_o power_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o flesh_n it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o those_o that_o be_v renew_v and_o hence_o say_v paul_n it_o be_v not_o i_o that_o do_v it_o rom._n 7.17_o yet_o in_o the_o verse_n immediate_o before_o he_o say_v what_o i_o will_v not_o that_o do_v i._o so_o that_o there_o be_v a_o double_a i_o in_o paul_n i_o spiritual_a not_o always_o keep_v they_o from_o the_o act_n he_o always_o free_v they_o from_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n and_o so_o in_o that_o respect_n he_o keep_v they_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o corruption_n and_o therefore_o he_o assure_v it_o to_o himself_o as_o his_o peculiar_a i_o even_o i_o be_o he_o that_o blot_v out_o thy_o sin_n it_o be_v god_n that_o justify_v say_v the_o apostle_n rom._n 8.33_o and_o with_o relation_n to_o this_o act_n of_o he_o he_o be_v call_v a_o deliverer_n rom._n 11.26_o there_o shall_v come_v out_o of_o zion_n the_o deliverer_n and_o he_o shall_v turn_v away_o ungodliness_n from_o jacob._n for_o this_o be_v my_o covenant_n with_o they_o when_o i_o shall_v take_v away_o their_o sin_n god_n always_o keep_v they_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o the_o hurt_n of_o the_o corruption_n that_o be_v in_o they_o he_o turn_v their_o very_a sin_n against_o their_o nature_n by_o accident_n to_o their_o advantage_n if_o all_o thing_n than_o all_o these_o thing_n work_v together_o for_o the_o best_a to_o they_o god_n do_v they_o good_a even_o by_o their_o sin_n and_o by_o their_o fall_n he_o make_v that_o to_o promote_v and_o further_a their_o salvation_n which_o seem_v most_o direct_o to_o hinder_v it_o and_o to_o oppose_v it_o oh_o the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n blessing_n and_o ordinance_n by_o accident_n do_v hurt_v to_o wicked_a man_n and_o even_o sin_n by_o accident_n do_v good_a to_o god_n people_n thus_o we_o have_v show_v you_o that_o god_n can_v and_o will_v preserve_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o the_o evil_n of_o temptation_n and_o corruption_n and_o as_o god_n keep_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o the_o evil_n of_o temptation_n and_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o corruption_n so_o from_o the_o evil_n of_o affliction_n i_o must_v confess_v he_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o so_o that_o they_o be_v utter_o exempt_a from_o all_o affliction_n they_o have_v their_o share_n and_o portion_n of_o it_o many_o time_n as_o well_o as_o any_o other_o man_n many_o be_v the_o affliction_n of_o the_o righteous_a say_v the_o psalmist_n psal_n 34.19_o not_o of_o the_o wicked_a only_o but_o the_o righteous_a too_o yea_o their_o affliction_n oftentimes_o be_v more_o and_o great_a than_o the_o affliction_n of_o the_o wicked_a be_v the_o prophet_n david_n be_v too_o speak_v shall_v be_v so_o exact_o note_v and_o so_o careful_o observe_v as_o he_o be_v the_o father_n wisdom_n so_o he_o be_v make_v to_o we_o wisdom_n as_o the_o apostle_n paul_n speak_v 1_o cor._n 1.30_o his_o father_n have_v appoint_v he_o to_o be_v the_o great_a prophet_n of_o of_o his_o church_n the_o great_a preacher_n the_o great_a revealer_n of_o his_o truth_n and_o will_n to_o man_n and_o therefore_o out_o of_o question_n he_o can_v speak_v well_o and_o his_o word_n be_v worth_a the_o mark_v you_o may_v be_v sure_a the_o father_n will_v not_o send_v out_o such_o a_o prophet_n to_o the_o church_n as_o be_v not_o worth_a the_o listen_n to_o no_o no_o god_n have_v anoint_v i_o to_o preach_v faith_n christ_n himself_o luke_n 4.18_o not_o appoint_v i_o to_o preach_v but_o anoint_v i_o to_o preach_v endue_v i_o with_o ability_n and_o gift_n for_o that_o office_n god_n who_o in_o former_a time_n say_v the_o apostle_n speak_v to_o the_o father_n by_o the_o prophet_n have_v in_o these_o latter_a day_n speak_v to_o we_o by_o the_o son_n he_o be_v design_v you_o see_v to_o be_v the_o spoksman_n for_o the_o father_n to_o the_o world_n to_o tell_v they_o what_o his_o mind_n be_v and_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o they_o we_o that_o be_v ordinary_a preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n we_o that_o be_v underling_n to_o christ_n in_o this_o business_n must_v be_v enable_v with_o some_o competent_a ability_n in_o this_o respect_n or_o else_o we_o be_v not_o fit_a for_o this_o work_n and_o therefore_o when_o our_o saviour_n send_v out_o his_o disciple_n he_o promise_v to_o give_v they_o wisdom_n and_o a_o mouth_n that_o be_v matter_n and_o expression_n luke_n 21.15_o wisdom_n within_o together_o with_o a_o mouth_n to_o utter_v and_o to_o bring_v forth_o that_o wisdom_n to_o show_v that_o both_o of_o these_o must_v go_v together_o in_o a_o preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n i_o know_v there_o be_v a_o latitude_n to_o be_v admit_v and_o allow_v in_o this_o regard_n but_o yet_o a_o competent_a ability_n to_o speak_v so_o as_o the_o people_n may_v be_v edify_v by_o it_o be_v indisputable_o require_v and_o if_o the_o under-minister_n of_o christ_n must_v have_v such_o a_o faculty_n how_o great_a ability_n then_o must_v their_o master_n have_v who_o be_v design_v to_o be_v the_o great_a preacher_n the_o great_a prophet_n and_o as_o the_o apostle_n style_v he_o the_o chief_a bishop_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o if_o he_o have_v such_o a_o transcendent_a faculty_n to_o speak_v then_o certain_o the_o word_n he_o speak_v be_v fit_a to_o be_v commend_v etc._n etc._n then_o second_o if_o you_o consider_v as_o who_o the_o word_n be_v so_o in_o the_o next_o place_n what_o the_o word_n be_v you_o will_v allow_v they_o to_o be_v worthy_a of_o our_o choice_a observation_n what_o the_o word_n be_v that_o jesus_n speak_v either_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o or_o for_o the_o efficacy_n of_o they_o let_v we_o a_o little_a weigh_v they_o in_o their_o order_n and_o we_o shall_v see_v they_o both_o help_n to_o this_o business_n 1._o the_o word_n of_o jesus_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o common_o be_v gospel_n word_n such_o be_v the_o word_n to_o which_o my_o text_n allude_v in_o the_o three_o chapter_n next_o before_o full_a of_o nothing_o else_o my_o brethren_n but_o gospel-sweetness_n gospel-promises_a and_o gospel-consolation_n against_o approach_a trouble_n and_o affliction_n these_o be_v the_o word_n that_o jesus_n speak_v christ_n in_o a_o sense_n my_o brethren_n be_v the_o first_o and_o certain_o the_o chief_a preacher_n of_o the_o gospel_n this_o great_a salvation_n at_o the_o first_o begin_v to_o be_v speak_v by_o the_o lord_n and_o be_v confirm_v afterward_o by_o they_o that_o hear_v he_o heb._n 2.3_o and_o hence_o the_o gospel_n as_o you_o know_v be_v call_v christ_n say_n john_n 8.51_o the_o law_n be_v the_o father_n say_v god_n speak_v these_o word_n the_o gospel_n be_v the_o son_n say_v this_o be_v speak_v by_o the_o son_n and_o hence_o say_v christ_n in_o the_o fore-alledged_n text_n if_o a_o man_n keep_v my_o say_n he_o shall_v never_o see_v death_n so_o that_o the_o say_n and_o the_o word_n of_o jesus_n be_v very_o fit_a to_o be_v consider_v for_o he_o you_o see_v be_v gospel-saying_n and_o gospel_n say_n be_v worthy_a of_o all_o acceptation_n as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v you_o 1_o tim._n 1.15_o indeed_o law-saying_n be_v not_o so_o ready_o attend_v to_o and_o entertain_v you_o know_v my_o brethren_n on_o mount_n sinai_n at_o the_o give_v of_o the_o law_n there_o be_v thundering_n and_o lightning_n and_o terrible_a voice_n and_o the_o event_n and_o issue_n be_v the_o people_n flee_v and_o will_v not_o hear_v they_o be_v not_o able_a to_o endure_v the_o noise_n but_o gospel-saying_n on_o the_o other_o side_n allure_v affection_n and_o invite_v attention_n upon_o mount_v tabor_n where_o our_o saviour_n be_v transfigure_v there_o be_v a_o shine_a sun_n a_o bright_a cloud_n a_o gentle_a and_o a_o please_a voice_n and_o the_o disciple_n say_v edificemus_n domine_fw-la let_v we_o build_v here_o etc._n etc._n 2._o and_o as_o the_o word_n of_o jesus_n for_o the_o matter_n of_o they_o be_v gospel-word_n so_o for_o the_o efficacy_n of_o they_o they_o be_v say_v word_n and_o so_o in_o that_o respect_n the_o word_n that_o jesus_n speak_v be_v very_o fit_a to_o be_v commend_v etc._n etc._n the_o word_n that_o i_o speak_v say_v our_o saviour_n to_o the_o jew_n be_v spirit_n and_o life_n john_n 6.63_o they_o be_v so_o in_o their_o operation_n and_o effect_n they_o give_v spirit_n and_o they_o work_v life_n and_o who_o will_v not_o attend_v unto_o and_o entertain_v such_o word_n as_o these_o be_v his_o say_n if_o it_o be_v receive_v and_o keep_v will_v sure_o save_v a_o man_n from_o death_n yea_o from_o eternal_a death_n we_o may_v depend_v upon_o it_o he_o bind_v it_o with_o a_o strong_a asseveration_n which_o he_o repeat_v twice_o for_o the_o etc._n etc._n now_o be_v it_o so_o my_o brethren_n that_o the_o word_n that_o jesus_n speak_v be_v very_o fit_a to_o be_v commend_v etc._n etc._n use_v then_o let_v they_o be_v receive_v with_o choice_a observation_n by_o his_o church_n and_o people_n let_v they_o not_o undervalue_v any_o of_o the_o word_n that_o jesus_n speak_v but_o let_v they_o entertain_v they_o with_o a_o very_a high_a esteem_n there_o have_v be_v some_o of_o late_a who_o have_v slight_v those_o word_n who_o have_v be_v bold_a to_o call_v they_o inky_a divinity_n a_o dead_a letter_n and_o the_o like_a and_o yet_o our_o saviour_n christ_n himself_o tell_v we_o the_o word_n that_o i_o speak_v be_v spirit_n and_o life_n john_n 6.63_o oh_o my_o beloved_a i_o beseech_v you_o let_v every_o one_o of_o we_o be_v far_o from_o give_v way_n to_o any_o mean_a account_n or_o slight_a thought_n of_o any_o word_n that_o christ_n speak_v let_v we_o keep_v up_o our_o observation_n our_o estimation_n our_o admiration_n of_o they_o to_o the_o very_o high_a it_o be_v true_a my_o brethren_n we_o shall_v careful_o attend_v and_o due_o mark_v all_o scripture_n word_n for_o all_o the_o scripture_n be_v give_v by_o rich_o let_v we_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o mark_v they_o a_o ear_n to_o hear_v they_o and_o a_o heart_n to_o keep_v they_o as_o mary_n have_v of_o who_o it_o be_v observe_v that_o she_o keep_v all_o his_o say_n in_o her_o heart_n how_o careful_o do_v the_o apostle_n keep_v that_o which_o our_o saviour_n speak_v though_o it_o be_v not_o where_o mention_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o wish_v other_o speak_v by_o angel_n be_v steadfast_a for_o the_o execution_n of_o it_o and_o every_o transgression_n and_o disobedience_n etc._n etc._n how_o shall_v we_o escape_v if_o we_o neglect_v so_o great_a come_v upon_o all_o man_n to_o condemnation_n so_o by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o one_o that_o be_v of_o christ_n the_o second_o adam_n the_o free_a gift_n come_v upon_o all_o to_o justification_n of_o life_n now_o be_v it_o so_o my_o brethren_n that_o they_o that_o be_v christ_n have_v life_n from_o use_n 1_o christ_n here_o then_o examine_v in_o the_o first_o place_n whether_o you_o be_v christ_n or_o no._n if_o you_o belong_v to_o he_o i_o mean_v by_o real_a call_n and_o incorporation_n you_o have_v receive_v life_n from_o he_o you_o hear_v he_o have_v receive_v power_n from_o god_n the_o father_n to_o this_o very_a end_n that_o he_o may_v give_v eternal_a life_n to_o as_o many_o as_o god_n have_v give_v he_o and_o out_o of_o question_n he_o be_v not_o unfaithful_a in_o the_o administration_n of_o this_o power_n and_o the_o discharge_n of_o this_o trust_n well_o then_o if_o you_o be_v he_o he_o have_v give_v you_o this_o life_n he_o have_v quicken_v you_o and_o raise_v you_o with_o himself_o you_o be_v partaker_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o therefore_o i_o beseech_v you_o search_v a_o little_a whether_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o you_o or_o no._n it_o be_v a_o thing_n which_o may_v be_v know_v in_o some_o degree_n if_o you_o be_v diligent_a for_o the_o apostle_n know_v that_o the_o ephesian_n and_o the_o roman_n be_v alive_a that_o they_o be_v quicken_v of_o christ_n in_o you_o and_o you_o may_v do_v it_o by_o these_o symptom_n follow_v first_o if_o you_o have_v receive_v life_n from_o christ_n you_o be_v strange_o alter_v man_n some_o little_a alteration_n there_o may_v be_v in_o some_o respect_n and_o yet_o a_o man_n may_v scarce_o note_v it_o or_o observe_v it_o in_o himself_o but_o when_o so_o great_a a_o change_n as_o this_o shall_v pass_v upon_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a almost_o but_o he_o shall_v feel_v it_o there_o be_v many_o alteration_n that_o may_v happen_v to_o a_o man_n in_o the_o passage_n of_o his_o life_n as_o custom_n and_o experience_n make_v a_o change_n and_o honour_n and_o preferment_n make_v a_o change_n a_o great_a change_n in_o some_o man_n especial_o in_o weak_a spirit_n and_o age_n and_o time_n and_o place_n and_o many_o other_o thing_n do_v make_v a_o change_n but_o this_o infusion_n of_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n into_o a_o person_n that_o be_v dead_a before_o be_v the_o great_a change_n of_o all_o it_o make_v a_o man_n a_o new_a creature_n and_o that_o in_o all_o respect_n too_o which_o be_v a_o very_a great_a matter_n old_a thing_n be_v do_v away_o all_o thing_n be_v become_v new_a be_v upon_o they_o all_o it_o seem_v they_o be_v in_o the_o increase_n and_o the_o thrive_a hand_n by_o this_o mean_n where_o there_o be_v great_a peace_n among_o the_o saint_n there_o be_v great_a the_o air_n continual_o rend_v and_o tear_v with_o storm_n and_o thunder_n and_o tempestuous_a stir_n which_o rise_v at_o first_o of_o a_o thing_n of_o nothing_o a_o thin_a invisible_a fume_n draw_v up_o from_o the_o earth_n and_o all_o this_o come_v to_o pass_v by_o the_o dissension_n that_o they_o have_v with_o other_o which_o take_v away_o the_o meekness_n of_o their_o spirit_n and_o with_o that_o their_o quiet_a too_o and_o therefore_o you_o shall_v find_v a_o meek_a and_o quiet_a spirit_n join_v together_o and_o make_v the_o chief_a adorn_v of_o a_o christian_a 1_o pet._n 2.4_o who_o they_o will_v have_v peace_n with_o god_n if_o they_o be_v angry_a one_o with_o another_o god_n
his_o spirit_n when_o he_o be_v about_o to_o faint_v why_o yet_o say_v he_o i_o shall_v not_o die_v but_o live_v for_o all_o this_o as_o near_o as_o i_o be_o bring_v yea_o i_o shall_v live_v to_o glory_n and_o triumph_v in_o god_n work_n in_o that_o which_o he_o shall_v do_v for_o i_o to_o live_v in_o dangerous_a time_n and_o to_o get_v through_o they_o though_o but_o with_o a_o escape_n be_v glorify_v by_o he_o oh_o let_v we_o be_v so_o ingenuous_a to_o desire_v to_o be_v a_o while_n where_o we_o may_v bring_v god_n glory_n rather_o than_o where_o we_o may_v have_v glory_n from_o he_o let_v we_o not_o be_v so_o eager_a for_o our_o wage_n for_o our_o rest_n till_o we_o have_v finish_v our_o work_n and_o serve_v our_o generation_n and_o when_o we_o have_v do_v so_o then_o god_n prayer_n in_o the_o large_a and_o most_o comprehensive_a sense_n which_o will_v be_v most_o for_o the_o support_n and_o comfort_n of_o the_o church_n and_o so_o according_o the_o observation_n shall_v be_v this_o doctrine_n god_n can_v and_o will_v preserve_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o all_o evil_a as_o long_o as_o they_o remain_v in_o this_o world_n whether_o the_o evil_a be_v the_o evil_a of_o corruption_n or_o the_o evil_n of_o affliction_n the_o evil_a of_o sin_n or_o the_o evil_n of_o punishment_n whether_o the_o evil_a be_v the_o world_n as_o some_o conceive_v or_o the_o devil_n as_o other_o think_v god_n can_v and_o will_v preserve_v those_o that_o belong_v to_o jesus_n christ_n from_o all_o these_o in_o such_o a_o sense_n as_o i_o shall_v open_v to_o you_o by_o and_o by_o both_o these_o be_v manifest_a in_o this_o petition_n of_o our_o saviour_n here_o i_o pray_v say_v he_o that_o thou_o will_v keep_v they_o from_o the_o evil_n from_o what_o evil_a none_o be_v except_v and_o therefore_o out_o of_o doubt_n he_o mean_v from_o all_o evil_a he_o pray_v that_o god_n will_v so_o preserve_v they_o that_o nothing_o that_o be_v real_o and_o true_o
