themselves_o their_o wife_n their_o child_n friend_n or_o foe_n after_o death_n let_v they_o resort_v to_o the_o holy_a ghost_n speak_v in_o this_o place_n and_o converse_v with_o their_o own_o heart_n if_o they_o find_v the_o quicken_a spirit_n but_o as_o a_o lively_a spark_n rake_v up_o among_o the_o great_a heap_n of_o their_o own_o corruption_n they_o shall_v assure_o live_v for_o ever_o if_o they_o find_v only_o mere_a flesh_n and_o blood_n to_o be_v their_o guide_n than_o woe_n to_o they_o they_o be_v in_o the_o state_n of_o castawaye_n and_o lose_a creature_n be_v they_o prince_n or_o peer_n noble_a or_o ignoble_a rich_a or_o poor_a there_o be_v no_o difference_n nor_o exception_n with_o god_n and_o therefore_o they_o ought_v speedy_o to_o sue_v for_o their_o deliverance_n in_o this_o place_n the_o reason_n why_o the_o holy_a ghost_n term_v this_o natural_a corruption_n inherent_a in_o the_o soul_n as_o well_o as_o the_o body_n by_o the_o name_n of_o flesh_n reas._n be_v because_o so_o strict_a be_v the_o union_n betwixt_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o in_o a_o unregenerate_a man_n that_o as_o a_o love_a couple_n they_o seek_v the_o preservation_n of_o each_o other_o estate_n and_o like_o hypocrates_n twin_n they_o laugh_v together_o they_o weep_v together_o and_o be_v alike_o affect_v a_o bloody_a heart_n and_o a_o bloody_a hand_n a_o false_a heart_n and_o a_o false_a tongue_n a_o lascivious_a mind_n a_o adulterous_a eye_n yea_o and_o which_o be_v more_o so_o strange_o sometime_o be_v the_o soul_n overcome_v with_o the_o love_n of_o the_o body_n that_o whereas_o by_o nature_n reason_n shall_v command_v and_o rule_v the_o flesh_n as_o the_o weak_a vessel_n the_o belly_n and_o back_n so_o subtle_o insinuate_v and_o creep_v into_o favour_n with_o the_o understanding_n that_o as_o the_o foolish_a wife_n with_o her_o beauty_n and_o compose_a device_n over-ruleth_a her_o husband_n though_o a_o man_n of_o understanding_n so_o these_o importunat_a craver_n never_o give_v over_o their_o suit_n unto_o reason_n they_o make_v it_o a_o drudge_n to_o sensuality_n and_o a_o attorney_n to_o solicit_v the_o cause_n of_o mere_a gross_a and_o carnal_a pleasure_n in_o consideration_n whereof_o i_o mean_v because_o of_o this_o mutual_a intercourse_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o body_n in_o accomplish_v of_o sin_n many_o learned_a divine_n have_v make_v this_o a_o question_n whether_o the_o soul_n be_v first_o infect_v with_o the_o contagion_n of_o the_o body_n or_o no_o but_o of_o that_o i_o will_v not_o stand_v it_o be_v beside_o our_o present_a purpose_n only_o thus_o much_o i_o note_v that_o therefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n name_v the_o flesh_n to_o intimate_v the_o mutual_a confederacy_n betwixt_o the_o soul_n &_o body_n of_o man_n how_o that_o by_o reason_n of_o sin_n he_o be_v now_o wilful_o make_v a_o slave_n and_o vassal_n to_o fleshly_a desire_n and_o therefore_o likewise_o it_o may_v be_v suppose_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n name_v the_o flesh_n only_o as_o a_o man_n that_o blame_v the_o provoke_a wife_n for_o the_o lewd_a action_n do_v by_o her_o husband_n for_o albeit_o sin_n lie_v principal_o in_o the_o soul_n as_o poison_v in_o the_o tooth_n yet_o it_o shed_v and_o disperse_v itself_o at_o his_o pleasure_n actual_o into_o the_o member_n of_o the_o body_n of_o who_o it_o be_v apt_o accomplish_v as_o occasion_n be_v offer_v and_o as_o the_o whole_a toad_n be_v call_v a_o venomous_a creature_n because_o of_o some_o one_o part_n preserve_v poison_n the_o rest_n be_v capable_a of_o the_o same_o virulent_a infection_n so_o the_o whole_a man_n be_v say_v to_o be_v sinful_a not_o as_o if_o the_o body_n of_o itself_o as_o it_o consist_v of_o bone_n &_o sinew_n and_o live_a artery_n can_v proper_o be_v say_v to_o be_v sinful_a otherwise_o then_o as_o the_o house_n be_v say_v to_o be_v wicked_a because_o of_o the_o wicked_a dweller_n albeit_o i_o grant_v as_o the_o serpent_n be_v a_o hand_n and_o be_v bless_v but_o if_o otherwise_o they_o grow_v downward_o and_o thou_o live_v after_o the_o flesh_n assure_o thou_o shall_v fall_v on_o the_o left_a hand_n and_o perish_v pleasure_n more_o than_o lover_n of_o god_n oh_o how_o be_v the_o spirit_n quench_v and_o the_o flesh_n inflame_v every_o where_o show_v i_o the_o man_n that_o true_o endeavour_v the_o suppress_n of_o sin_n oh_o this_o be_v a_o hard_a task_n it_o require_v much_o patience_n and_o vigilancy_n and_o will_v bring_v no_o small_a pain_n and_o sorrow_n to_o the_o flesh_n in_o the_o end_n what_o then_o these_o fearful_a outcry_n and_o desperate_a conclusion_n of_o christian_n concern_v their_o spiritual_a estate_n whence_o be_v it_o that_o they_o take_v satan_n part_n in_o accuse_v and_o condemn_v themselves_o do_v utter_v such_o doleful_a exclamation_n as_o these_o when_o conscience_n be_v thorough_o awaken_v alas_o i_o have_v most_o wretched_o spend_v the_o prime_n and_o strength_n of_o my_o be_v weary_a of_o my_o former_a way_n and_o look_v back_o upon_o they_o with_o a_o tremble_a heart_n and_o grieve_a spirit_n yet_o i_o be_o afraid_a god_n will_v never_o vouchsafe_v to_o cast_v his_o eye_n of_o compassion_n upon_o my_o soul_n though_o i_o have_v be_v a_o professor_n long_o yet_o many_o time_n my_o heart_n be_v full_a of_o doubt_v when_o i_o call_v to_o mind_v the_o heinousness_n of_o my_o unregenerate_a life_n and_o see_v since_o i_o be_v enlighten_v and_o shall_v have_v behave_v myself_o in_o forwardness_n and_o fruitfulness_n for_o god_n answerable_a to_o my_o former_a folly_n and_o licentiousness_n in_o evil_a so_o many_o slip_n and_o imperfection_n every_o day_n and_o such_o weak_a distract_v discharge_v of_o duty_n command_v both_o towards_o god_n and_o man_n that_o my_o very_a spirit_n sink_v within_o i_o many_o time_n when_o i_o reach_v out_o the_o hand_n of_o my_o faith_n to_o fetch_v some_o special_a promise_n into_o my_o soul_n for_o refresh_v and_o comfort_n compare_v advise_o my_o own_a vileness_n and_o nothingnesse_n with_o the_o riches_n of_o mercy_n and_o grace_n shine_v therein_o i_o be_o overwhelm_v with_o admiration_n and_o think_v with_o myself_o how_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o this_o shall_v be_v can_v such_o glorious_a thing_n belong_v to_o such_o a_o wretch_n and_o worm_n as_o i_o be_o i_o can_v deny_v but_o there_o be_v mercy_n have_v carry_v i_o beyond_o the_o villainy_n of_o the_o vile_a creature_n you_o can_v name_n the_o enormity_n of_o my_o way_n have_v set_v a_o infamous_a brand_n upon_o i_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o the_o world_n beside_o those_o secret_a pollution_n and_o sinful_a practice_n which_o no_o eye_n ever_o behold_v save_o god_n alone_o have_v i_o not_o be_v extreme_o outrageous_a and_o go_v on_o thus_o with_o a_o high_a hand_n i_o may_v have_v have_v some_o hope_n but_o now_o all_o expectation_n fail_v i_o i_o despair_v of_o salvation_n etc._n etc._n oh_o the_o fear_n and_o perplexity_n
