conversant_a about_o they_o for_o as_o the_o blot_n of_o sin_n begin_v to_o be_v strike_v at_o in_o regeneration_n so_o that_o work_n be_v carry_v on_o by_o piecemeal_n in_o sanctification_n till_o sin_n take_v not_o away_o the_o filthiness_n of_o sin_n but_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n and_o this_o i_o mention_v not_o mere_o for_o speculation_n and_o information_n of_o the_o judgement_n but_o it_o say_v something_o for_o their_o advantage_n and_o encouragement_n who_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o sin_n be_v fly_v to_o christ_n for_o pardon_n that_o they_o be_v not_o scar_v by_o the_o pollution_n sin_n they_o grant_v that_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n turn_v eternal_a punishment_n into_o a_o temporal_a which_o the_o sinner_n must_v undergo_v for_o venial_a sin_n which_o they_o say_v deserve_v not_o eternal_a punishment_n but_o temporal_a all_o that_o temporal_a punishment_n they_o will_v have_v the_o pardon_v man_n to_o sustain_v it_o hence_o be_v their_o doctrine_n of_o pennance_n in_o this_o life_n and_o of_o purgatory_n after_o death_n when_o pennance_n be_v not_o undergo_v here_o where_o they_o will_v have_v pardon_v sinner_n to_o make_v satisfaction_n of_o sin_n that_o groundless_a distinction_n of_o mortal_a and_o venial_a sin_n you_o shall_v notice_n these_o five_o anent_o that_o their_o doctrine_n 1._o that_o as_o the_o bulk_n of_o popish_a religion_n be_v nothing_o but_o a_o well_o contrive_v policy_n or_o interest_n of_o state_n so_o this_o doctrine_n of_o penance_n and_o purgatory_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o politic_a device_n to_o make_v not_o do_v while_o they_o be_v alive_a or_o their_o friend_n for_o they_o when_o they_o be_v dead_a to_o mitigat_n that_o satisfaction_n that_o be_v their_o market_n and_o then_o pay_v well_o and_o come_v to_o heaven_n without_o either_o penance_n or_o purgatory_n so_o that_o their_o doctrine_n in_o this_o be_v a_o perfect_a cheat_n 2._o in_o this_o their_o doctrine_n they_o corrupt_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o ancient_a church_n which_o be_v not_o so_o very_a sound_n for_o 〈◊〉_d they_o have_v a_o trick_n of_o retain_v ancient_a name_n of_o thing_n under_o which_o they_o bring_v in_o new_a error_n so_o in_o this_o particular_a of_o pennance_n and_o indulgence_n use_v by_o the_o ancient_a church_n who_o while_o they_o be_v a_o distinct_a society_n be_v very_o strict_a and_o severe_a in_o require_v public_a penance_n and_o satisfaction_n for_o scandal_n some_o they_o hold_v many_o year_n in_o make_v their_o repentance_n some_o they_o hold_v all_o their_o life_n but_o afterward_o when_o the_o world_n come_v in_o to_o the_o church_n and_o the_o emperor_n embrace_v christianity_n and_o they_o with_o other_o great_a one_o be_v too_o thin-skined_a and_o will_v not_o submit_v to_o discipline_n the_o church_n do_v degenerate_a from_o their_o strictness_n and_o shorten_v their_o indulgence_n but_o the_o ancient_a church_n their_o pennance_n be_v not_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o sin_n but_o the_o church_n they_o be_v not_o for_o private_a and_o secret_a sin_n but_o for_o public_a and_o scandalous_a offence_n and_o the_o church_n willing_a to_o gratify_v great_a person_n do_v mitigat_n these_o severity_n to_o many_o but_o the_o papist_n retain_v the_o name_n they_o will_v have_v these_o pennance_n a_o satisfaction_n to_o god_n for_o sin_n and_o their_o indulgence_n to_o assoil_v folk_n in_o the_o court_n of_o heaven_n a_o 3d_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v in_o that_o their_o doctrine_n which_o be_v very_o unhansom_a for_o they_o to_o maintain_v reduce_v to_o these_o four_o word_n 1._o that_o justify_v person_n never_o meet_v with_o condemnation_n what_o temporal_a lot_n soever_o they_o meet_v with_o and_o though_o they_o be_v not_o secure_v against_o the_o cross_n yet_o they_o be_v secure_v from_o condemnation_n 2._o that_o a_o pardon_v and_o justify_v child_n of_o god_n do_v never_o come_v under_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n though_o justify_v person_n may_v come_v under_o god_n fatherly_a displeasure_n yet_o they_o be_v never_o more_o object_n of_o divine_a wrath_n as_o other_o though_o they_o may_v often_o meet_v with_o pursue_v they_o for_o sin_n but_o be_v try_v their_o faith_n and_o their_o grace_n such_o be_v job_n trial_n though_o elihu_n tell_v he_o what_o he_o be_v he_o have_v sin_n and_o his_o sin_n deserve_v precious_a and_o god_n on_o that_o account_n a_o matchless_a god_n but_o a_o four_o direction_n antecedent_n to_o pardon_v be_v that_o we_o study_v repentance_n for_o these_o sin_n the_o pardon_n whereof_o we_o study_v and_o expect_v that_o we_o may_v be_v in_o capacity_n for_o pardon_n i_o shall_v not_o insist_v now_o upon_o this_o doctrine_n or_o direction_n only_o let_v i_o entreat_v you_o to_o make_v it_o sure_a work_n in_o this_o affair_n i_o have_v lay_v your_o duty_n somewhat_o home_o to_o you_o and_o i_o fear_v there_o be_v need_n you_o will_v take_v it_o all_o and_o more_o and_o for_o with_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v mercy_n that_o there_o be_v mercy_n with_o god_n imply_n that_o the_o man_n that_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v in_o god_n be_v in_o himself_o miserable_a and_o put_v to_o look_v out_o to_o god_n for_o mercy_n and_o so_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o bless_a and_o sure_a character_n of_o a_o person_n that_o be_v call_v and_o allow_v to_o hope_v
