this_o be_v the_o use_n of_o the_o doctrine_n not_o only_o that_o he_o may_v begin_v the_o ignorant_a in_o christ_n but_o also_o that_o he_o may_v more_o &_o more_o confirm_v those_o which_o be_v already_o teach_v therefore_o we_o must_v every_o day_n diligent_o endeavour_v to_o learn_v that_o our_o faith_n may_v increase_v all_o our_o life_n long_o for_o both_o many_o remnaunt_n of_o unbeléefe_n do_v as_o yet_o remain_v in_o we_o and_o also_o our_o faith_n be_v so_o weak_a that_o even_o this_o that_o we_o do_v believe_v be_v not_o yet_o to_o believe_v sound_o unless_o there_o come_v a_o great_a confirmation_n furthermore_o it_o be_v worth_a the_o labour_n to_o note_v what_o be_v the_o true_a mean_n to_o confirm_v faith_n to_o wit_n when_o the_o office_n and_o power_n of_o that_o they_o which_o be_v now_o faithful_a may_v believe_v that_o be_v may_v profit_n by_o beléeve_v wherefore_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o a_o godly_a techer_n that_o he_o may_v confirm_v his_o hearer_n in_o the_o faith_n to_o set_v forth_o as_o much_o as_o he_o can_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v content_a therewith_o we_o desire_v nothing_o else_o see_v the_o papist_n do_v hide_v and_o abase_v this_o by_o all_o mean_n they_o do_v bewray_v by_o this_o one_o thing_n sufficient_o that_o they_o have_v care_n of_o nothing_o less_o then_o of_o the_o right_a doctrine_n of_o faith_n with_o the_o faith_n which_o we_o have_v in_o his_o name_n for_o this_o be_v the_o end_n of_o beléeve_v that_o we_o may_v be_v the_o child_n and_o heir_n of_o god_n 14_o this_o be_v the_o trust_n he_o commend_v the_o faith_n whereof_o he_o speak_v by_o the_o fruit_n or_o he_o do_v show_v wherein_o our_o trust_n do_v chief_o consist_v to_o wit_n that_o the_o godly_a be_v bold_a to_o call_v upon_o god_n with_o a_o bold_a courage_n as_o paul_n also_o speak_v ephe._n 3.12_o that_o by_o faith_n we_o have_v access_n unto_o god_n with_o boldness_n and_o rom._n 8.15_o that_o the_o spirit_n do_v we_o be_v persuade_v that_o our_o prayer_n shall_v not_o be_v in_o vain_a for_o the_o apostle_n do_v deny_v that_o they_o be_v endue_v with_o confidence_n which_o hang_v in_o doubt_n whereby_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n be_v bury_v and_o almost_o quench_v in_o the_o papacy_n where_o all_o certainty_n be_v take_v away_o indeed_o they_o murmur_v many_o prayer_n there_o and_o they_o prate_v much_o of_o call_v upon_o god_n but_o they_o pray_v &_o bid_v to_o pray_v with_o doubtful_a and_o wander_a mind_n yea_o they_o condemn_v this_o trust_n which_o the_o apostle_n do_v necessary_o require_v according_a to_o his_o will_n by_o this_o note_n he_o will_v brief_o teach_v what_o be_v the_o true_a rule_n to_o pray_v to_o wit_n when_o man_n submit_v their_o prayer_n unto_o god_n neither_o indeed_o when_o as_o the_o lord_n do_v promise_v that_o he_o will_v do_v whatsoever_o his_o shall_v require_v do_v he_o grant_v unto_o they_o a_o unbridled_a liberty_n to_o ask_v whatsoever_o come_v into_o their_o mind_n but_o he_o give_v they_o withal_o a_o law_n to_o pray_v aright_o and_o true_o there_o be_v nothing_o more_o profitable_a for_o we_o than_o this_o bridle_n because_o if_o it_o be_v lawful_a for_o every_o one_o of_o we_o to_o ask_v whatsoever_o he_o listen_v and_o god_n do_v favour_v our_o prayer_n we_o shall_v be_v very_o ill_o provide_v for_o for_o we_o know_v not_o what_o be_v profitable_a yea_o we_o do_v boil_v with_o wicked_a and_o hurtful_a desire_n but_o god_n do_v give_v a_o double_a remedy_n that_o we_o pray_v not_o otherwise_o and_o how_o we_o ought_v to_o pray_v but_o the_o spirit_n help_v our_o infirmity_n do_v stir_v up_o in_o we_o unspeakable_a sigh_n rom._n 8.26_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n also_o we_o must_v ask_v at_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o he_o will_v direct_v our_o prayer_n for_o god_n in_o his_o promise_n do_v set_v down_o unto_o we_o the_o lawful_a mean_n to_o pray_v as_o have_v be_v say_v 15_o and_o if_o we_o know_v the_o repetition_n be_v not_o needless_a as_o in_o show_v it_o seem_v for_o the_o apostle_n now_o special_o affirm_v that_o which_o he_o general_o pronounce_v of_o the_o success_n of_o prayer_n that_o the_o godly_a do_v wish_v or_o desire_v nothing_o of_o god_n which_o they_o do_v not_o obtain_v and_o when_o as_o he_o say_v that_o all_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o faithful_a be_v hear_v he_o speak_v of_o sound_n and_o modest_a prayer_n and_o which_o be_v frame_v according_a to_o the_o rule_n of_o obedience_n for_o the_o faithful_a do_v not_o run_v headlong_o with_o loose_a reins_n or_o grant_v themselves_o any_o thing_n but_o they_o always_o in_o their_o prayer_n regard_v what_o god_n command_v therefore_o this_o be_v the_o apply_v of_o the_o general_a doctrine_n to_o the_o spiritual_a and_o private_a use_n of_o every_o man_n that_o the_o faithful_a do_v not_o doubt_v that_o they_o have_v god_n favourable_a in_o all_o and_o every_o their_o prayer_n that_o they_o may_v with_o quiet_a mind_n wait_v until_o the_o lord_n perform_v those_o thing_n which_o they_o have_v pray_v for_o and_o so_o be_v ease_v of_o all_o grief_n and_o care_n they_o cast_v their_o care_n upon_o god_n neither_o yet_o this_o quietness_n and_o assurance_n aught_o to_o quench_v in_o we_o the_o zeal_n of_o prayer_n that_o he_o which_o be_v assure_v of_o a_o happy_a success_n shall_v therefore_o abstain_v from_o call_v upon_o god_n for_o the_o certainty_n of_o faith_n do_v not_o bring_v forth_o untowardness_n or_o slackness_n but_o the_o apostle_n only_o mean_v that_o everye_o man_n be_v quiet_a mind_v in_o his_o necessity_n when_o he_o have_v lay_v down_o his_o groan_n in_o the_o bosom_n of_o god_n 16_o if_o any_o man_n shall_v see_v his_o brother_n sin_n a_o we_o but_o because_o he_o speak_v in_o common_a to_o the_o faithful_a he_o may_v not_o speak_v other_o way_n then_o that_o they_o may_v love_v one_o another_o he_o confirm_v this_o sentence_n by_o a_o reason_n aleadge_v sometime_o already_o that_o be_v because_o no_o man_n shall_v approve_v himself_o to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n except_o he_o which_o love_v his_o brother_n and_o because_o the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o god_n work_v in_o we_o of_o necessity_n the_o love_n of_o god_n he_o oppose_v also_o after_o his_o manner_n the_o contrary_a member_n that_o there_o be_v no_o knowledge_n of_o god_n where_o love_n be_v not_o in_o his_o strength_n and_o he_o take_v a_o general_a principle_n because_o god_n be_v love_n that_o be_v because_o his_o nature_n be_v to_o love_v man_n i_o know_v that_o many_o do_v subtillye_o play_v the_o philosopher_n and_o especial_o that_o the_o old_a writer_n have_v abuse_v this_o place_n that_o they_o may_v prove_v the_o godhead_n of_o the_o spirit_n but_o the_o simple_a meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v because_o god_n be_v the_o fountain_n of_o love_n that_o this_o affection_n flow_v and_o be_v pour_v out_o from_o he_o wheresoever_o his_o knowledge_n come_v like_a as_o before_o he_o call_v he_o light_v because_o there_o be_v nothing_o dark_a in_o he_o but_o rather_o he_o lyghten_v all_o with_o his_o brightness_n he_o speak_v not_o therefore_o here_o of_o the_o be_v of_o god_n but_o only_o show_v what_o a_o one_o he_o be_v to_o be_v perceyve_v of_o us._n but_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n to_o be_v note_v in_o these_o word_n of_o the_o apostle_n that_o this_o be_v the_o true_a knowledge_n of_o god_n which_o do_v regenerate_v we_o and_o frame_v we_o a_o new_a that_o we_o may_v become_v new_a creature_n then_o that_o it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o it_o make_v we_o conformable_a to_o god._n let_v go_v therefore_o that_o foolish_a invention_n of_o faith_n unform_v because_o if_o any_o man_n separate_a faith_n from_o love_n he_o do_v even_o as_o if_o one_o shall_v go_v about_o to_o take_v heat_n from_o the_o sun_n 9_o in_o this_o have_v appear_v by_o many_o other_o witness_n also_o we_o have_v the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o approve_v for_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v ask_v why_o the_o world_n be_v create_v why_o we_o be_v place_v in_o it_o to_o hold_v the_o lordship_n of_o the_o earth_n why_o we_o be_v preserve_v in_o this_o life_n that_o we_o may_v enjoy_v infinite_a and_o innumerable_a blessing_n why_o we_o be_v create_v to_o the_o hope_n of_o a_o better_a life_n why_o we_o be_v endue_v with_o light_n and_o understanding_n there_o can_v be_v show_v no_o other_o cause_n of_o all_o these_o than_o the_o free_a love_n of_o god_n towards_o us._n but_o the_o apostle_n choose_v the_o principal_a witness_n in_o this_o place_n and_o that_o which_o far_o excel_v all_o other_o for_o this_o love_n of_o god_n be_v not_o only_o infinite_a that_o he_o spare_v not_o his_o own_o son_n that_o by_o his_o death_n he_o may_v restore_v we_o to_o life_n but_o the_o goodness_n be_v more_o than_o marvellous_a which_o ought_v to_o ravish_v our_o mind_n with_o admiration_n christ_n therefore_o be_v such_o a_o only_a son_n to_o death_n for_o our_o sake_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n he_o that_o be_v one_o son_n by_o nature_n make_v many_o by_o adoption_n and_o grace_n even_o who_o so_o ever_o he_o graft_v into_o his_o body_n by_o faith_n he_o show_v the_o end_n why_o christ_n be_v send_v of_o his_o father_n that_o we_o may_v live_v in_o he_o for_o without_o he_o we_o be_v all_o dead_a but_o at_o his_o come_n he_o bring_v life_n unto_o us._n and_o except_v our_o own_o unbeléefe_n do_v hinder_v we_o feel_v this_o effect_n of_o his_o grace_n in_o ourselves_o 10_o in_o this_o be_v love_n he_o set_v forth_o the_o love_n of_o god_n more_o large_o by_o another_o reason_n that_o be_v because_o he_o give_v his_o son_n for_o we_o what_o time_n we_o be_v enemy_n as_o paul_n also_o teach_v rom._n 5.6_o but_o he_o use_v other_o word_n that_o god_n be_v provoke_v by_o no_o love_n of_o man_n have_v love_v they_o free_o of_o his_o own_o accord_n by_o which_o word_n he_o mean_v to_o teach_v that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o be_v without_o deserve_v albeit_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o apostle_n be_v to_o set_v god_n before_o we_o to_o follow_v yet_o the_o doctrine_n of_o faith_n be_v not_o to_o be_v neglect_v which_o he_o join_v together_o god_n have_v love_v we_o free_o why_o because_o we_o be_v sinner_n or_o ever_o we_o be_v bear_v then_o because_o in_o this_o corruption_n of_o our_o nature_n we_o have_v a_o heart_n that_o be_v turn_v from_o he_o and_o be_v not_o inclinable_a to_o right_v and_o holy_a affection_n if_o the_o subtlety_n of_o the_o papist_n shall_v have_v place_n that_o everye_o one_o be_v elect_v of_o god_n so_o far_o as_o he_o foresé_v he_o worthy_a of_o love_n this_o doctrine_n shall_v not_o stand_v that_o he_o love_v we_o first_o for_o than_o our_o love_n towards_o god_n shall_v have_v the_o first_o place_n by_o order_n although_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v the_o last_o in_o time_n but_o the_o apostle_n do_v take_v a_o grant_v rule_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n which_o these_o profane_a sophister_n do_v not_o know_v that_o we_o be_v bear_v so_o wicked_a and_o corrupt_v that_o then_o be_v as_o it_o be_v breed_v in_o we_o a_o hatred_n of_o god_n that_o we_o desire_v nothing_o but_o that_o which_o do_v displease_v he_o that_o every_o affection_n of_o our_o flesh_n do_v hold_v continual_a war_n with_o his_o righteousness_n and_o he_o send_v his_o son_n therefore_o christ_n with_o all_o his_o benefit_n be_v proceed_v unto_o we_o from_o the_o alone_a goodness_n of_o god_n as_o from_o a_o fountain_n and_o as_o it_o be_v needful_a for_o we_o destruction_n whosoever_o pass_v by_o christ_n do_v seek_v what_o be_v determine_v of_o they_o in_o the_o secret_a counsel_n of_o god_n further_n he_o show_v again_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o office_n when_o he_o show_v that_o he_o be_v send_v therefore_o that_o he_o may_v be_v a_o propitiation_n for_o our_o sin_n and_o indeed_o we_o be_v first_o teach_v by_o a_o reconciler_n this_o proper_o belong_v to_o the_o sacrifice_n of_o his_o death_n we_o perceive_v then_o that_o this_o belong_v only_o to_o christ_n that_o he_o put_v away_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n and_o so_o take_v away_o the_o hatred_n that_o be_v betwixt_o we_o and_o god_n but_o here_o may_v arise_v some_o show_n of_o contrariety_n for_o if_o god_n do_v love_v we_o before_o that_o christ_n do_v offer_v himself_o to_o death_n for_o we_o what_o need_n be_v there_o of_o a_o new_a reconciliation_n so_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n may_v seem_v superfluous_a i_o answer_v when_o christ_n be_v say_v to_o reconcile_v his_o father_n to_o we_o that_o this_o be_v refer_v to_o our_o capacity_n for_o as_o we_o be_v guyltie_n of_o evil_n in_o ourselves_o we_o can_v conceive_v god_n but_o to_o be_v angry_a and_o deadly_a displease_v until_o christ_n abolish_v sin_n by_o his_o death_n until_o he_o deliver_v we_o with_o the_o price_n of_o his_o blood_n from_o death_n again_o the_o love_n of_o god_n require_v righteousness_n therefore_o that_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o we_o be_v belove_v it_o be_v of_o necessity_n that_o we_o come_v to_o christ_n in_o who_o only_o we_o find_v righteousness_n now_o we_o see_v the_o variety_n of_o speak_v which_o be_v usual_a in_o scripture_n
our_o faith_n that_o we_o may_v be_v assure_v that_o in_o our_o own_o cause_n we_o shall_v never_o take_v the_o repulse_n in_o the_o mean_a time_n the_o apostle_n do_v exhort_v we_o that_o one_o of_o we_o be_v mutuallye_o careful_a for_o the_o safety_n of_o another_o and_o again_o he_o will_v that_o the_o fall_v of_o our_o brother_n be_v unto_o we_o provocation_n to_o pray_v and_o in_o truth_n this_o hardness_n be_v pass_o great_a to_o be_v touch_v with_o no_o sense_n of_o compassion_n when_o we_o see_v the_o soul_n which_o be_v redeem_v with_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n perish_v and_o he_o show_v that_o there_o be_v a_o remedy_n at_o hand_n whereby_o brother_n may_v help_v their_o brother_n he_o shall_v give_v life_n he_o say_v to_o he_o that_o be_v ready_a to_o perish_v that_o shall_v pray_v for_o he_o albeit_o the_o word_n he_o shall_v give_v may_v be_v refer_v to_o god_n as_o if_o it_o have_v be_v say_v god_n shall_v grant_v the_o life_n of_o our_o brother_n to_o our_o faith_n 10_o he_o that_o do_v not_o believe_v as_o the_o faithful_a have_v this_o commodity_n that_o they_o know_v themselves_o to_o be_v without_o danger_n of_o error_n because_o they_o be_v ground_v upon_o god_n so_o he_o make_v the_o ungodly_a guilty_a of_o great_a blasphemy_n because_o they_o accuse_v god_n of_o a_o lie_n true_o nothing_o be_v more_o precious_a unto_o god_n then_o his_o truth_n
