many_o sheep_n beside_o they_o but_o it_o be_v god_n peculiar_a people_n in_o opposition_n to_o the_o multitude_n who_o be_v not_o his_o people_n the_o doctrine_n or_o rather_o the_o branch_n of_o the_o doctrine_n we_o leave_v at_o be_v this_o and_o it_o be_v exclusive_a that_o christ_n death_n be_v only_o intend_v to_o be_v a_o price_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o god_n elect_a people_n and_o be_v lay_v down_o with_o respect_n to_o they_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n be_v to_o be_v look_v upon_o and_o consider_v only_o as_o a_o price_n and_o satisfaction_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o none_o other_o or_o thus_o jesus_n christ_n in_o his_o suffering_n and_o in_o the_o lay_n down_o of_o his_o life_n have_v a_o respect_n to_o the_o elect_a and_o intend_v the_o remove_n of_o the_o sin_n and_o transgression_n of_o god_n elect_a people_n only_o and_o of_o none_o other_o we_o know_v nothing_o that_o we_o can_v make_v of_o these_o word_n nor_o of_o the_o god_n elect_a people_n be_v he_o strike_v this_o branch_n of_o the_o doctrine_n be_v of_o great_a weight_n and_o concernment_n in_o the_o whole_a strain_n of_o grace_n for_o if_o this_o march-stone_n be_v lift_v and_o remove_v grace_n become_v common_a and_o as_o some_o call_v it_o universal_a and_o so_o to_o be_v in_o effect_n no_o grace_n at_o all_o for_o grace_n have_v a_o peculiar_a channel_n of_o its_o own_o wherein_o it_o run_v towards_o a_o certain_a select_a number_n and_o not_o towards_o all_o i_o do_v not_o mean_v of_o grace_n take_v in_o a_o large_a sense_n for_o so_o all_o man_n as_o they_o be_v partaker_n of_o any_o mercy_n or_o of_o common_a favour_n may_v be_v say_v to_o have_v grace_n extend_v to_o they_o but_o i_o mean_v god_n special_a grace_n favour_n and_o good_a will_n which_o be_v extend_v only_o to_o the_o elect_a for_o who_o sin_n christ_n suffer_v the_o right_a bound_a of_o which_o doctrine_n show_v forth_o both_o god_n sovereignty_n in_o the_o dispense_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o freeness_n thereof_o in_o communicate_v and_o manifest_v of_o it_o to_o who_o he_o will_v and_o which_o thus_o consider_v be_v especial_o engage_v of_o the_o heart_n of_o they_o on_o who_o he_o please_v to_o manifest_v it_o ere_o i_o come_v to_o confirm_v this_o branch_n of_o the_o doctrine_n take_v a_o word_n or_o two_o of_o advertisement_n in_o the_o entry_n 1._o that_o christ_n death_n may_v be_v consider_v two_o way_n 1._o in_o respect_n of_o itself_o and_o as_o abstract_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o redemption_n wherein_o it_o be_v contrive_v as_o to_o all_o the_o circumstance_n of_o it_o in_o which_o sense_n as_o his_o death_n and_o suffering_n be_v of_o infinite_a value_n &_o worth_n so_o they_o be_v as_o divine_n use_v to_o speak_v of_o value_n to_o redeem_v the_o whole_a world_n if_o god_n in_o his_o design_n and_o decree_n have_v so_o order_v and_o think_v meet_v to_o extend_v it_o 2._o we_o be_v to_o consider_v his_o suffering_n and_o death_n as_o a_o price_n agree_v upon_o in_o the_o covenant_n or_o bargain_n of_o redemption_n wherein_o these_o two_o or_o three_o thing_n concur_v 1._o god_n proposal_n 2._o christ_n acceptation_n and_o design_n in_o lay_v down_o his_o life_n 3._o the_o father_n acquiesce_v therein_o and_o declare_v himself_o well_o please_v therewith_o we_o speak_v not_o here_o of_o christ_n death_n in_o the_o first_o respect_n that_o be_v as_o abstract_n from_o the_o covenant_n for_o in_o that_o respect_n he_o may_v have_v lay_v down_o his_o life_n for_o few_o or_o more_o for_o some_o or_o for_o all_o if_o it_o have_v be_v so_o intend_v but_o we_o speak_v of_o it_o in_o the_o second_o respect_n as_o it_o be_v a_o price_n agree_v upon_o in_o god_n purpose_n and_o christ_n design_n and_o in_o god_n acceptation_n and_o thus_o we_o say_v that_o his_o death_n be_v only_o intend_v as_o a_o satisfaction_n and_o recompense_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o elect_n and_o be_v lay_v down_o for_o they_o only_o 2_o we_o may_v consider_v christ_n suffering_n and_o death_n in_o the_o fruit_n of_o it_o either_o as_o they_o respect_v common_a favour_n and_o mercy_n common_a gift_n and_o mean_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v not_o peculiar_a and_o save_a but_o common_a to_o believer_n with_o other_o be_v bestow_v upon_o professor_n in_o the_o visible_a church_n or_o as_o they_o be_v peculiar_a and_o save_a such_o as_o faith_n justification_n adoption_n etc._n etc._n now_o when_o we_o say_v that_o christ_n suffering_n and_o death_n be_v a_o price_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o his_o people_n we_o exclude_v not_o the_o reprobate_n simple_o from_o temporal_a and_o common_a favour_n and_o mercy_n that_o come_v by_o his_o death_n they_o may_v have_v and_o actual_o have_v common_a gift_n and_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n the_o mean_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v some_o way_n effect_n and_o fruit_n of_o the_o same_o covenant_n but_o we_o say_v that_o the_o reprobate_n partake_v not_o of_o save_v mercy_n and_o that_o christ_n death_n be_v a_o satisfaction_n only_o for_o the_o elect_n and_o that_o none_o other_o get_v pardon_n of_o sin_n faith_n repentance_n etc._n etc._n by_o it_o but_o they_o only_o it_o be_v intend_v for_o none_o other_o and_o this_o we_o clear_a and_o confirm_v from_o and_o by_o these_o follow_a ground_n and_o argument_n which_o we_o shall_v short_o hint_n at_o the_o 1._o argument_n be_v draw_v from_o this_o same_o assertion_n of_o the_o prophet_n thus_o if_o christ_n death_n be_v only_o a_o satisfaction_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o god_n people_n than_o it_o be_v not_o a_o satisfaction_n for_o the_o sin_n of_o all_o but_o it_o be_v a_o satisfaction_n only_o for_o the_o sin_n of_o god_n people_n therefore_o not_o for_o all_o for_o his_o people_n be_v not_o all_o man_n or_o all_o man_n be_v not_o his_o people_n but_o his_o people_n be_v a_o peculiar_a people_n separate_v from_o other_o in_o god_n purpose_n and_o decree_n as_o we_o clear_v before_o from_o john_n 17._o thou_o they_o be_v and_o thou_o give_v they_o i_o and_o the_o text_n say_v express_o for_o the_o transgression_n of_o my_o people_n be_v he_o strike_v he_o respect_v the_o sin_n of_o himself_o and_o if_o he_o offer_v sacrifice_n for_o atonement_n wherefore_o do_v he_o so_o it_o be_v either_o for_o himself_o and_o that_o can_v not_o be_v for_o he_o be_v holy_a or_o for_o nothing_o
