therefore_o that_o there_o be_v two_o kind_n of_o life_n the_o one_o carnal_a and_o natural_a which_o consist_v in_o the_o exercise_n of_o natural_a action_n and_o faculty_n such_o as_o be_v common_a to_o we_o partly_o with_o sensitive_a creature_n as_o drink_v eat_a sleep_a and_o the_o like_a partly_o with_o evil_a spirit_n as_o sin_v offend_v god_n and_o our_o neighbour_n the_o other_o sort_n of_o life_n be_v spiritual_a and_o divine_a have_v for_o its_o principle_n the_o image_n of_o god_n and_o his_o grace_n and_o for_o its_o action_n the_o exercise_v of_o piety_n towards_o god_n and_o charity_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n such_o a_o life_n as_o adam_n will_v have_v be_v if_o he_o have_v persevere_v in_o the_o innocence_n wherein_o he_o be_v create_v and_o such_o as_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o holy_a angel_n now_o in_o heaven_n to_o these_o two_o kind_n of_o life_n do_v answer_v two_o kind_n of_o death_n the_o one_o natural_a which_o be_v the_o separation_n of_o the_o soul_n from_o the_o body_n and_o a_o abolition_n of_o the_o action_n and_o motion_n and_o sensation_n which_o the_o union_n of_o these_o two_o part_n of_o our_o be_v do_v produce_v in_o we_o the_o other_o spiritual_a which_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o a_o privation_n of_o the_o image_n of_o god_n and_o of_o those_o good_a and_o holy_a faculty_n and_o habitude_n and_o action_n wherewith_o it_o be_v accompany_v it_o be_v this_o second_o kind_n of_o death_n the_o apostle_n intend_v here_o when_o he_o say_v that_o we_o be_v dead_a in_o offence_n and_o in_o the_o uncircumcision_n of_o our_o flesh_n for_o the_o holy_a ghost_n the_o true_a judge_n and_o estimator_n of_o thing_n do_v count_v all_o those_o for_o dead_a which_o have_v not_o the_o life_n of_o god_n how_o full_a of_o
flesh_n for_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o pattern_n of_o that_o life_n we_o live_v here_o below_o after_o our_o regeneration_n he_o seek_v not_o either_o the_o glory_n or_o the_o pleasure_n or_o the_o riches_n of_o the_o world_n he_o adhere_v not_o to_o any_o one_o of_o those_o thing_n but_o use_v what_o be_v necessary_a for_o his_o food_n and_o raiment_n with_o great_a sobriety_n and_o frugality_n not_o taste_v the_o fruition_n of_o it_o and_o so_o little_o fear_v to_o be_v deprive_v of_o the_o fame_n that_o instead_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o world_n he_o voluntary_o suffer_v extreme_a ignominy_n poverty_n and_o nakedness_n instead_o of_o riches_n torment_n and_o the_o cross_n instead_o of_o pleasure_n and_o so_o you_o see_v my_o brethren_n how_o the_o consideration_n of_o our_o be_v dead_a in_o christ_n jesus_n shall_v turn_v we_o aside_o from_o the_o affect_v and_o the_o seek_n of_o earthly_a thing_n but_o the_o life_n we_o also_o have_v in_o he_o shall_v no_o less_o set_v be_v rise_v in_o jesus_n christ_n be_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n and_o of_o his_o spirit_n the_o one_o be_v the_o life_n of_o the_o old_a adam_n and_o the_o other_o of_o the_o new_a now_o it_o be_v not_o incompatible_a that_o one_o and_o the_o same_o person_n be_v deprive_v of_o the_o former_a and_o possess_v of_o the_o latter_a nay_o on_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o such_o as_o live_v in_o the_o former_a manner_n shall_v also_o live_v in_o the_o latter_a and_o as_o in_o nature_n the_o generation_n of_o one_o thing_n do_v natural_o presuppose_v the_o corruption_n not_o be_v possible_a to_o affirm_v the_o former_a without_o suppose_v the_o latter_a nor_o to_o place_v the_o life_n of_o christ_n in_o we_o otherwise_o than_o by_o the_o death_n of_o adam_n in_o we_o a_o inevitable_a necessity_n require_v the_o one_o do_v die_v that_o the_o other_o may_v live_v in_o we_o as_o for_o that_o life_n which_o we_o acquire_v by_o our_o resurrection_n with_o jesus_n christ_n the_o apostle_n grant_v that_o it_o pertain_v to_o we_o and_o that_o in_o this_o behalf_n it_o may_v be_v say_v of_o we_o that_o we_o live_v as_o he_o do_v say_v frequent_o both_o of_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o heaven_n and_o as_o the_o former_a be_v mortal_a and_o perish_v no_o less_o than_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o earth_n from_o which_o it_o draw_v its_o nutriment_n so_o the_o other_o be_v incorruptible_a and_o eternal_a according_a to_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o spirit_n that_o quicken_v it_o and_o of_o heaven_n that_o maintain_v it_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o former_a be_v sin_n and_o shame_n and_o damnation_n the_o fruit_n of_o the_o latter_a be_v righteousness_n honour_n joy_n and_o immortality_n that_o first_o life_n therefore_o to_o say_v true_a be_v a_o death_n rather_o than_o a_o life_n be_v such_o as_o after_o a_o short_a and_o feverish_a agitation_n can_v not_o terminate_v but_o in_o eternal_a suffering_n and_o this_o other_o on_o the_o his_o spirit_n and_o by_o the_o usage_n of_o his_o word_n his_o sacrament_n and_o his_o discipline_n unto_o the_o make_v they_o bring_v forth_o the_o excellent_a fruit_n of_o charity_n and_o sanctity_n by_o reason_n of_o these_o beginning_n and_o of_o the_o sure_a title_n they_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o plenitude_n and_o perfection_n of_o that_o life_n they_o be_v say_v in_o scripture_n to_o live_v and_o to_o have_v eternal_a life_n at_o present_a even_o as_o we_o attribute_v to_o a_o plant_n the_o name_n and_o life_n of_o the_o kind_n which_o it_o be_v of_o when_o it_o have_v once_o take_v root_n and_o thrust_v forth_o some_o bud_n and_o verdure_n though_o it_o have_v not_o yet_o its_o whole_a extent_n and_o perfection_n yet_o it_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v too_o that_o the_o complete_a form_n of_o this_o life_n which_o consist_v in_o perfect_a sanctity_n robe_v with_o glorious_a immortality_n resemble_v that_o which_o jesus_n christ_n our_o elder_a brother_n bring_v up_o out_o of_o his_o sepulchre_n at_o his_o rise_n again_o and_o carry_v into_o heaven_n with_o he_o forty_o day_n after_o will_v not_o be_v communicate_v to_o we_o but_o in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v
